       OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to conduct a bibliometric analysis of research on endometriosis and infertility, focusing on the 100 most cited (TOP100) articles in the literature.
    DESIGN: Bibliometric Analysis Participants/Materials, Setting, Methods: The SCOPUS database was searched using the terms "endometriosis" and "infertility." The productivity and impact of research publications by authors, countries, and journals were assessed using the following indicators: total number of publications (TNP), total number of citations (TNC), JIF, and JCI. The bibliometric analysis was conducted from January 1, 2000, to December 31, 2023, using IBM SPSS™ for Windows and VOSviewer 1.6.20. VOSviewer was used to evaluate the TNC, total number of authors/co-authors, and collaboration network between countries of the TOP100 articles. VOSviewer was also used to create keyword co-occurrence networks.
    RESULTS: Of the TOP100 articles, 69 were literature review articles, with a mean of 448.97 + 513.5 citations (range: 191 to 2705). The TOP100 articles were published by 479 authors (mean 5.8 + 7.3 per study) from 40 countries in 39 high-impact journals. The keyword co-occurrence network revealed a grouping of four clusters, with terms related to pathophysiology, clinical management, assisted reproductive technology, and hormonal treatment of endometriosis.
    LIMITATIONS: The main limitation of our study is the use of only one database and TNC as the main bibliometric indicator. Studies need at least 2 to 3 years after publication to accumulate sufficient citations for bibliometric indicators to be reliable. This means that large number of recent studies were not included in this bibliometric analysis.
    CONCLUSIONS: This study revealed trends in endometriosis and infertility research, especially in the fields of immunology and genetics. It also highlights the importance of global collaboration to improve diagnostics, treatments and outcomes.

       Background: The co-occurrence of rheumatoid arthritis and depression typically exacerbates pain and leads to a range of adverse consequences, becoming a research hotspot in recent years. This study conducted the systematic retrieval of relevant articles within the past five years and employed bibliometric methods for scientometric analysis.
    Methods: Setting the keywords "Rheumatoid arthritis", "Depression" and "Depressive Disorder", relevant literature published between 2019 and 2023 was retrieved from the Web of Science database. Subsequently, the core information from the literature was subjected to visual analysis via CiteSpace software and bibliometric techniques.
    Results: A total of 974 articles related to rheumatoid arthritis and depression were identified through the search strategy, and 877 articles were retained for further analysis after duplicates. The United States (n=173), England (n=82), China (n=69), Canada (n=68), and Germany (n=54) ranked top five countries by publication count. The King's College London was the leading institution with the highest number of publications (n = 20). LANCET PSYCHIATRY was the most frequently cited journal (n = 72) despite having only one article. The top five authors with the largest number of publications include CHARLES N BERNSTEIN (n=14), RUTH ANN MARRIE (n=13), JOHN D FISK (n=12), CAROL A HITCHON (n=12) and SCOTT B PATTEN (n=12), and all these are based in Canada. The keywords with a centrality score exceeding 0.1 were depression, rheumatoid arthritis, symptom, quality of life, impact, fibromyalgia, disease activity, prevalence, inflammation, health, anxiety, pain, fatigue, disease, arthritis and disability.
    Conclusion: Related research between the co-occurrence of rheumatoid arthritis and depression was a persistent hotspot, but it still lacks of international collaboration and in-depth mechanistic exploration.

       Objective: The objective is to elucidate the collaboration and current research status in the pediatric field of fNIRS using bibliometric analysis, and to discuss future directions.
    Method: Bibliometric analysis was conducted on publications related to pediatric fNIRS research published before June 2024 in the Web of Science Core Collection using VOSviewer software and R language.
    Results: A total of 761 documents were retrieved, published by 2,686 authors from 893 institutions across 44 countries in 239 journals. The number of publications has significantly increased since 2012. The United States is the country with the highest number of publications, University College London is the institution with the most publications, Lloyd-Fox Sarah is the author with the most publications and significant influence, and "Neurophotonics" is the journal with the most publications. The current hotspots mainly involve using fNIRS to study executive functions and autism spectrum disorders in children.
    Conclusion: The study provides useful reference information for researchers by analyzing publication numbers, collaborative networks, publishing journals, and research hotspots. In the future, there should be an emphasis on enhancing interdisciplinary and international collaboration to collectively dedicate efforts toward the advancement of fNIRS technology and the standardization of research.

      Rhinoplasty is one of the most commonly performed aesthetic surgeries. Saudi Arabia has a large number of rhinoplasty publications. Here, we aimed to assess the past, present, and future research output related to rhinoplasty in Saudi Arabia and compare it with global output. We performed a bibliometric analysis to evaluate rhinoplasty research productivity trends in Saudi Arabia from 1995 to 2021 in both cosmetic and reconstructive rhinoplasties. We considered all publications whose first authors were from Saudi Arabia or whose authors contributed significantly to a paper from Saudi Arabia, even though the first author was not from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. We evaluated the research quality of the articles using the impact factor of the journal in which the article was published. For each article, the number of authors, number of citations received, study design, region of the first author, and the level of evidence were collected. We gained several insights into the global trends of rhinoplasty in research and its position. We observed a significant increase in the number of publications on rhinoplasty in Saudi Arabia. Although there was no significant increase in the impact factor, most publications had a level of evidence of I or II.

       INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: The knowledge generated by scientific research is linked to the development of countries, as it provides the necessary resources to guarantee scientific progress and cost-effective healthcare. For this reason, our study analyzes the trends of scientific publication in urology in Latin America.
    METHODS: A bibliometric analysis was performed. Data collection was carried out using the SCOPUS search engine in April 2023, and the search terms were defined by the authors, including the most common diseases in the specialty of urology. A descriptive analysis of the different characteristics, trends and scientific collaborations was performed. The collaboration networks were plotted using VOSviewer.
    RESULTS: From 2000 to 2021, Latin American publications in urology amounted to 9135 in scientific journals. Brazil is the country with the greatest scientific production (51.2%) and Chile has the greatest scientific production per million inhabitants. Of the total number of scientific publications, 51.1% were related to prostate cancer, 88.8% were written in English (and 50.2% had non-open access). The country with greatest collaborative research with Latin America was the United States.
    CONCLUSIONS: Scientific output in urology in Latin America has increased substantially over the last 20 years. The most published topic is prostate cancer, most papers are written in English, and the United States takes first place regarding scientific collaboration. However, the proportion of the world's science originated in Latin America is still low and depends on Brazil.

       OBJECTIVE: To assess research trends and publication patterns of literature related to presurgical infant orthopaedics (PSIO) through a bibliometric analysis of the top 100 most-cited articles.
    MATERIAL AND METHODS: The top 100 most-cited articles were identified in the Web of Science (WoS) database using search terms related to PSIO on April 23, 2024, without any restrictions to study design, publication date and language. Standard information about each study was extracted. Citations from WoS, Scopus and PubMed databases were compared. The level of evidence for each article included was assessed. Association between different variables was calculated using Spearman's correlation coefficient with statistical significance set at p < 0.05. Visual analysis of the author's keyword co-occurrence, co-authorship analysis of authors, and citation analysis of journals and authors were performed using VOSviewer.
    RESULTS: Top cited articles were published from 1994 to 2020, with total individual database citations being WoS (n = 5378), Scopus (n = 6184) and PubMed (n =  10 450). Eleven articles were considered classic articles. Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Journal (Impact Factor = 1.1) had a maximum number of articles and citations. Two hundred eighty-five individuals contributed to top-cited articles, with 62 corresponding authors from 19 countries. A maximum number of authors were affiliated with universities in the United States. The most common keyword used was "nasoalveolar molding (n = 24)", "cleft palate (n = 16)", and "infant orthopedics (n = 16)". The study design of the majority of articles was retrospective and follow-up studies (level 3; n = 53). A weak negative correlation was observed between citation metrics and both the publication year (P < 0.01) and the level of evidence (P < 0.01).
    CONCLUSION: This analysis recognises the contributions of experts and offers valuable insights into trends that have shaped the development and evidence related to PSIO research. Future research should focus on integrating advanced technologies, conducting longitudinal studies, fostering collaboration, and emphasizing patient-centred outcomes.

       Objective: Among the disturbing motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease (PD), freezing of gait (FOG) stands out as one of the most severe challenges. It typically arises during the initiation of gait or when turning. This phenomenon not only impose a heavy burden on patients, but also on their families. We conduct a bibliometric analysis to summarize current research hotspots and trends concerning freezing of gait in Parkinson's disease (PD-FOG) over past two decades.
    Methods: We retrieved articles and reviews published in English about PD-FOG in the Web of science Core Collection database from 2000 to 2023 on November 30,2023. The tools VOSviewer and CiteSpace facilitated a visual analysis covering various aspects such as publications, countries/regions, organizations, authors, journals, cited references, and keywords.
    Result: This study includes 1,340 articles from 64 countries/regions. There is a growth in publications related to PD-FOG over the past two decades, maintaining a stable high output since 2018, indicating a promising research landscape in the field of PD-FOG. The United States holds a leading position in this field, with Nieuwboer A and Giladi N being two of the most influential researchers. Over the past two decades, the research hotspots for PD-FOG have primarily encompassed the kinematic characteristics, diagnosis and detection, cognitive deficits and neural connectivity, as well as therapy and rehabilitation of PD-FOG. Topics including functional connectivity, virtual reality, deep learning and machine learning will be focal points of future research.
    Conclusion: This is the first bibliometric analysis of PD-FOG. We construct this study to summarize the research in this field over past two decades, visually show the current hotspots and trends, and offer scholars in this field concepts and strategies for subsequent studies.

       INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: Finite element analysis (FEA) is an incrementally practical and precise tool for the prediction of stress effects on different tissue structures and has therefore interested dental researchers for decades. This bibliometric and visualized study was aimed to assess the research progress related to FEA in the dental sciences in terms of research trends and frontiers.
    METHODS: The articles about FEA studies in this field during 1999 to 2024 were obtained from Web of Science Core Collection. Then, these results were analysed and plotted using Microsoft Excel, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace in order to find out the historical evolution, current hotspots, and future directions.
    RESULTS: Total 2838 literature records related to the topic were retrieved from Web of Science Core Collection. The most active country and institution were USA (538 documents) and Universidade Estadual Paulista (140 documents), respectively. Baggi et al from University of Naples Federico II was the author with the most highly cited article (352 citations), which was published on the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry in 2008. Dental Materials ranked first (231 documents) among the 10 journals with the greatest numbers of relevant publications. The top three trending keywords were 'dental implant', 'stress distribution', and 'fracture'. The endocrown, clear aligner, and posterior edentulism were scientific frontiers in this field.
    CONCLUSION: The present study provides a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of research in the dental science by FEA approaches, which will identify active hotspots of scientific interest to guide further research endeavours.

      Navigation technologies have become essential in spine surgery over the last decade, offering precise procedures and minimizing risks. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first bibliometric analysis on this topic, providing insights and trends on topics, authors, and journals. The study identifies and analyzes the 100 most cited articles related to navigation in spine surgery. A systematic search was performed in Scopus and Google Scholar to identify all articles related to navigation in spine surgery (38,057 articles). The 100 most cited were analyzed for citations, titles, abstracts, authors, affiliations, keywords, country and institute of origin, year of publication, and level of evidence. The search was conducted in October 2023. The 100 most cited articles were published between 1995 and 2019, with 2010 to 2019 being the most prolific decade (46%). The most cited article had 733 citations, and the paper with the most citations per year averaged 59.27 citations/year. The Spine Journal had the most articles (34%). The United States contributed the most articles (39%). Most publications were clinical research and reviews (94%), with an overall evidence grade of IV-V (63%). A positive trend was noted in the last decade for incorporating augmented reality. This bibliometric analysis offers valuable insights and trends in spine surgery navigation literature. The findings indicate that technological advancements have led to more articles with higher levels of evidence. These pivotal articles shape evidence-based medicine, future surgeons, and industry improvements in navigated spine surgery.

       Background: Membranous glomerulonephritis, also known as membranous nephropathy (MN), is a common cause of nephrotic syndrome in adults. Despite extensive research on MN, bibliometric studies on the subject are scarce. Therefore, this study aimed to provide a visual analysis of global trends in membranous nephropathy research over the past 13 years.
    Methods: This study conducted a bibliometric and visual analysis of global trends in MN research from 2010 to 2023. Articles related to MN were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. Tools such as CiteSpace and VOSviewer were utilized to analyze publications, countries, institutions, authors, publishing journals, co-cited references, and keywords to identify the current state and future trends in MN research.
    Results: The analysis encompassed 1,624 publications, showing an annual increase from 2010 to 2023. The People's Republic of China emerged as the most active country in this field, while France's Sorbonne Universite and Institut National de la Sante et de la Recherche Medicale (Inserm) led in publication volume among academic institutions. Debiec Hanna stood out as the most prolific author. BMC Nephrology had the highest number of publications, making it the most favored journal in the field. The article with the greatest co-citation intensity was "Primary Membranous Nephropathy," a review published in 2017.
    Conclusion: This study shows that there has been increasing interest in membranous nephropathy over the past 13 years. The most frequently encountered keywords were "membranous nephropathy" "nephrotic syndrome," and "glomerulonephritis." Analysis of emerging terms indicated that "a2 receptor antibody," "domain containing 7a," and "t cell" may remain prominent subjects of research in the forthcoming years. The findings highlight key research trends and areas of interest that can inform researchers, clinicians, and policymakers about the current state of MN research and help guide future research directions and clinical practice.

       PURPOSE: Frailty is common in surgical patients and is closely associated with postoperative outcomes.
    AIMS: This study employed bibliometric methods to summarize and analyze research related to frailty and surgery, comprehensively analyzing the research structure and providing visualized maps.
    METHODS: This study analyzed the volume of publications, countries, institutions, authors, journals, references, and keywords related to perioperative frailty in the Web of Science Core Collection from 1978 to 2024. Visual bibliometric analyses were conducted from multiple perspectives, including collaboration networks, citation analysis, and keyword clustering.
    RESULTS: From 1978 to 2024, 21,879 authors from 95 countries and regions published 4,119 papers on perioperative frailty in 973 journals worldwide. The United States has the most publications, while Italy has the highest degree of international collaboration. The University of California System has the highest number of publications. The University of Kansas Medical Center is the institution with the highest centrality. The top nine authors in terms of publication volume are all from the USA. Bowers Christian A. is the most prolific author. The Journal of Vascular Surgery is the journal with the most publications. Current research directions include preoperative risk assessment of frailty, the relationship between frailty and postoperative complications, elderly frailty, and the relationship between frailty and sarcopenia. Research hotspots include risk stratification, postoperative delirium, the elderly, and sarcopenia.
    CONCLUSION: This study has identified the research hotspots and trends in perioperative frailty. Our findings will enable researchers to understand this field's knowledge structure better and identify future research directions.

       BACKGROUND: Over the past three decades, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress has gained considerable attention in the field of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with an increasing number of publications. It is crucial to reveal the global status, research hotspots and future research trends of ER stress in HCC. The aim of this study is to analyze the publications related to ER stress in HCC through bibliometric analysis in order to better understand the current status of ER stress research in HCC and to identify potential new research directions.
    METHODS: In this study, articles and reviews on ER stress in HCC up to December 31, 2023 were searched and downloaded from the Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCIE) of the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC), Pubmed, Scopus and Embase databases. Using CiteSpace 6.2.R6, VOSviewer 1.6.19, Scimago Graphica and Microsoft Office Excel 2019, the knowledge networks of a variety of countries, regions, authors, references, keywords and journals were analyzed.
    RESULTS: A total of 1239 publications were retrieved, including 843 articles and 396 review articles. The number of global publications is increasing every year, with the majority of publications coming from China and the USA. Ih-Jen Su, Wenya Huang and Wei Wei are the top 3 prolific authors. "Progression", "inflammation", "cell cycle arrest", "metabolism", "snsignaling pathways", "pathogenesis" and "non-alcoholic fatty liver disease" have emerged as research hotspots in recent years. The journal with the greatest co-citation is Hepatology.
    CONCLUSIONS: Based on current global trends, the total number of publications on ER stress in HCC research will continue to increase, but there is a need for more cooperation between authors and countries/regions. ER stress in HCC will continue to be a research priority.

       BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Nonunion of fractures continue to be the most challenging complication. The increased interest in this area has been anecdotally recognized through published research. The study aimed to conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of global research on nonunion and delayed union of fractures to identify key trends, hotspots, and potential areas for future research development.
    METHODS: Using a pre-defined search strategy, articles related to "Nonunion and Delayed Union of Fractures" that were published from January 1st, 2004 to December 31st, 2023, were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection for scientometric analysis. The bibliometrics method was used to analyze the publication dates, countries, institutions, journals, authors, highly cited literature and research hotspots.
    RESULTS: A total of 1997 publications were identified, which registered an average of 21.42 citations per paper (CPP). The 30.39 % and 3.55 % of the 1997 global publications have received external funding support and were highly-cited papers, respectively. The USA, China and UK, were the most productive countries, while Canada, Scotland, and Belgium registered the highest citation impact. University Leeds, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Kobe University were the most productive organizations, while Vanderbilt University, University of Edinburgh and University Leeds registered the highest citation impact. Giannoudis PV, Egol KA, and Konda SR were the most productive authors, while Bhandari M, Mehta S, and Schemitsch EH registered the highest citation impact. Injury, Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma and Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery contributed the most papers, while Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery-American, Injury and Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research registered the highest citation impact per paper.
    CONCLUSION: The present bibliometric analysis shows the characteristics and trends of non-union fracture research and illuminates the current research situation and developmental trends.

       Background: Psychological violence is a serious global public health and social issue, attracting increasing research. Its adverse effects on individuals and society are significant. Given the negative impacts of psychological violence and the importance of maintaining mental health, we employed a bibliometric analysis of the literature on psychological violence over the past 20 years on a global scale.
    Objective: We aimed to elucidate the current research hotspots and development trends in psychological violence using bibliometrics and a visualization analysis, and provide ideas for related research.
    Methods: We searched three databases in the Web of Science Core Collection to obtain data from January 1, 2003, to December 31, 2022, and utilized VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and Scimago Graphica software to visualize authors, journals, countries, institutions, and collaboration and keyword networks.
    Results: Ultimately, 4,387 publications related to psychological violence were identified; the top three countries for the number of publications were the United States, England, and Canada, in that order; The top three institutions were the University of Toronto, King's College London, and Columbia University. Of 15,681 authors, the average publication rate was 0.28 articles per author, with Rodriguez-Carballeira A from Spain publishing the most articles; The top three disciplinary distributions were psychiatry, family Studies, and clinical psychology; Research hotspots included causes, harms, evaluation strategies, and interventions related to psychological violence.
    Conclusion: The increasing number of publications suggests greater interest among researchers in the interconnected domains of psychological violence, with the ongoing research reflecting stability and maturity. The current research focus is on the risk factors, manifestations, and consequences of psychological violence. In the future, potential emerging research trends include exploring measurement methods for psychological violence and identifying mitigation strategies. The global community has developed a well-established foundation for cooperation. However domestic research is lacking, indicating the need for enhancement and increased collaboration among researchers, institutions, and countries.

       Background: In the last two decades, the role of the gut microbiome in the development, maintenance, and outcome of sepsis has received increased attention; however, few descriptive studies exist on its research focus, priorities, and future prospects. This study aimed to identify the current state, evolution, and emerging trends in the field of gut microbiota and sepsis using bibliometric analysis.
    Methods: All publications on sepsis and gut microbiota were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection and included in this study. VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and the Web of Science online analysis platform were used to visualize trends based on publication country, institution, author, journal, and keywords.
    Results: A total of 1,882 articles on sepsis-related gut microbiota were screened, mainly from 95 countries or regions and 2,581 institutions. The United States and China contributed the most to this research field, with 521 (27.683 %) and 376 (19.979 %) articles, respectively. Scientists from the University of California were the most prolific, publishing 63 (3.348 %) articles. Cani PD published papers with the highest H-index, establishing himself as a leader in the field. The most publications were published in the journals "Nutrients" and "PLOS One." The journals with the most co-citations were "PLOS One," "Nature," and "Gut." The most used keywords were prebiotics, gut microbiota, and sepsis. The keyword burst research analysis revealed that research on treatment strategies based on the intestinal microbiota, intestine-liver axis, and regulatory mechanisms of bacterial metabolites are currently hot directions.
    Conclusion: This study presents a global overview of the current state and potential trends in the field of sepsis-related gut microbiota. This study identified hot research sub-directions and new trends through comparison and analysis, which will aid in the development of this field.

       Objective: This study analyzes the presence and reverberations of stress, anxiety, and other mental health issues on primary and middle school students using bibliometric analysis. The aim of this study is to map the research landscape by statistically analyzing existing literature and identifying key themes, trends, and research hotspots in the domain of stress in students. This study also presents analysis related to top contributing countries, journals, authors, citations, and collaboration networks.
    Method: A total of 1,335 publications from 1962 to 10 September 2023 were included in this study using the Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus databases. The steps involved in the bibliometric study included data collection, cleaning, and various analyses such as performance analysis, citation analysis, and network analysis. Biblioshiny by RStudio and Microsoft Excel were used for bibliometric analysis to determine the collaboration between countries and authors and to explore keyword analysis and thematic evolution.
    Results: The findings show that China and USA have contributed the highest number of publications. Frontiers in Psychology with 50 publications turns out to be the most prominent journal. The study presents the thematic evolution and the trend topics in this research domain. Some of the trend topics are stress, test anxiety, bullying, depression, cyberbullying, virtual reality, mathematics anxiety, childhood maltreatment and self-compassion, primary school, and middle school. The paper also highlights the prominent authors and their collaboration network.
    Discussion: The study has highlighted the various reasons for stress and its potential repercussions on students. This information can be used to help parents, teachers, and the school administration to spot the most susceptible group of students who need immediate intervention to address various mental health issues. We see a gradual progress in the research areas being covered under this domain. More relevant areas of concern related to stress are being explored with time. With the technological advancement and the vast unmonitored internet usage (especially for primary and middle school students), the stress caused by cyberbullying and peer victimization has also become an important topic of research in later years.

      Using bibliometric analysis, this study attempted to provide an overview of the current state of research and key findings regarding the immunotherapy for vasculitis in general. We gathered the literature from the Web of Science (WOS) database covering the last 20 years (2004-2024) pertaining to the immunotherapy for vasculitis, and we used Citespace to evaluate the mapping of knowledge. The findings demonstrated that there were 572 articles concerning the immunotherapy for vasculitis, with a faster growth after 2018.       In this study, we conducted a bibliometric and altmetric analysis of the top 100 most-cited articles on religion from 2010 to 2023. The data were sourced from the Web of Science Core Collection database. VOSviewer was utilized to create visualization knowledge maps such as co-authorship, co-citation, and keywords co-occurrence analysis, and the Spearman correlation analysis was performed to determine the relationships between the variables. The results indicate that these articles were published in 22 journals by 231 authors in 158 institutions across 24 countries. Most of the articles were published from the USA. Kenneth I. Pargament and Harold G. Koenig were identified as two of the most prominent scholars, while the Journal of Religion and Health and the Psychology of Religion and Spirituality emerged as the most productive and influential journals. The citations for these articles span a range of 45 to 828, whereas the altmetric attention scores (AAS) vary from 1 to 797. The Spearman correlation analysis revealed that the AAS is weakly positively correlated with the article influence score (AIS) ( r=0.285 ) and weakly negatively correlated with the number of years since publication (NYsP) ( r=-0.233 ), but is not significantly correlated with other bibliometric indicators; however, it is posited that the importance of the AAS may increase over time as the influence of social media continues to expand.

       OBJECTIVE: According to the World Health Organization, 17.9 million individuals died from cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in 2019, constituting 32% of all global mortalities. In recent years, percutaneous coronary interventions such as stenting have become a common treatment approach for coronary artery disease (CAD). However, the problem of angina recurrence after stenting, associated with in-stent restenosis, persists. The aim of this study was to elucidate the intricate structure of relevant countries and regions, prominent research institutions, prolific authors, and recurring keywords shaping the landscape of this field.
    MATERIALS AND METHODS: The search strategy involved Scopus and Web of Science Core Collection databases on December 13, 2023. Bibliometric analysis was performed using the Bibliometrix R-package.
    RESULTS: An upward trend was found, characterized by an annual growth rate (AGR) of 6.82%. China leads with 17 publications, followed by Argentina with 14 and Italy with 9. Capital Medical University from China has published the largest number of articles in the field. The most significant number of publications were published in the American Journal of Cardiology. Among the top ten authors, Kim J. has published six articles and Yang C. has published four, making them the most productive in the field. "In-stent restenosis" and "percutaneous coronary intervention" were the most frequently used terms between 2002 and 2023.
    CONCLUSIONS: It is important to note that the majority of studies examined were conducted in developed countries, which may influence the generalization of results. Nevertheless, there is also considerable attention to the topic from scientific groups in developing countries. This analysis helps identify gaps in the current research field and define directions for future studies.

       Background and Objectives: Citation analysis is a fundamental method in bibliometrics for quantifying the impact and contribution of articles on a specific biomedical field. The purpose of our study was to identify and analyze the top 100 cited articles in the field of EUS.
    Methods: All published articles in the field of EUS were searched by using "endoscopic ultrasound" and its synonyms as the search terms without time limit. The Institute for Scientific Information Web of Science Core database was searched to determine the citations. The top 100 cited articles were identified and further evaluated for characteristics including publication year, authors, journals, impact factor, countries, institutions, article type, topic term, and evidence grade, among others.
    Results: A total of 430 articles were cited more than 100 times. The 100 most-cited articles were published between 1988 and 2018, and the medium citation was 240.5 (104.25). The top 100 cited articles mainly focused on diagnostic performance (80%) and interventional therapy (20%). The numbers of articles studying the diagnostic accuracy of FNA (n = 29) and tumor diagnosis (n = 29) were the highest among research articles on FNA and EUS of diagnostic categories, and EUS transluminal drainage (n = 14) was the most frequently used EUS technique for therapy. The focus of the majority of the articles was on diseases of pancreas (n = 55), and among the 55 articles related to pancreatic diseases, pancreatic cancer (n = 17) and solid pancreatic masses (n = 13) were the most researched topics. In addition, we found that the proportions of diagnostic and treatment-related articles at different time periods have statistical significance (P < 0.05).
    Conclusions: Our analysis provides an insight into the top 100 articles in the field of EUS, revealing EUS-guided FNA, tumor staging, and transluminal drainage as the major advances in the past 35 years. Pancreatic diseases were the most researched, especially pancreatic cancer or solid pancreatic masses. Our research has found that the number of articles on the application of EUS treatment has significantly increased.

       BACKGROUND: Hemodialysis (HD)-related nursing research has been growing over the past 2 decades, providing critical insights into improving patient care and outcomes. This study aimed to visualize the hotspots and emerging frontiers in HD-related nursing research, offering valuable references for future studies.
    METHODS: A bibliometric analysis was conducted on publications related to HD nursing research from the Web of Science Core Collection database, spanning the years 2002 to 2023, and the characteristics of literature such as authors, co-cited authors, countries, research institutions, journal distribution, keywords, and cited literature were visually analyzed using CiteSpace and VOSviewer.
    RESULTS: A total of 1019 publications were included in this study. The major contributors to this field were the United States, China, and Australia. The University of Sao Paulo emerged as the most prolific institution. The principal contributors were the Nephrology Nursing Journal, followed by Journal of Renal Care and Journal of Clinical Nursing. The top 5 co-occurrence keywords included HD, quality of life, dialysis, chronic kidney disease, and end-stage renal disease. The burst detection of keywords showed that current research frontier trends were pain and validation. The top 5 largest clusters of cited references included research on systematic review research, nurse-led disease management program, family caregiver, end-stage renal disease, and self-care intervention.
    CONCLUSION: This study reveals productive authors, countries and institutions, research hotspots, and trends of HD-related nursing research over the past 2 decades, offering a comprehensive overview of this field worldwide.

      As the population ages, there will be an increasing demand for health care resources, particularly in intensive care. Therefore, critically ill older adults are receiving increasing attention and have been extensively studied. However, the research landscape, dynamic patterns, and emerging topics in this area have scarcely been reviewed. This study aimed to delve into the current status and emerging trends (publication volume and research topics) in critical care for older adults (including interventions, outcomes, and complications) using bibliometric analysis. We retrieved original articles and reviews focusing on critical care for older adults published between 2013 and 2022 from the Web of Science core database. To examine and present the research trends, we employed VOSviewer and CiteSpace software for analysis and visualization. The cooperative network of countries and institutions, cocited authorship network, cocited references, and cooccurrence network of keywords were analyzed. Overall, 6356 articles and reviews published between 2013 and 2022 were analyzed, revealing a noticeable upward trend in the number of publications focused on critical care for older adults. In total, 34,654 authors from 7989 institutions across 131 countries collaborated to publish 6356 papers related to critical care for older adults in 1715 academic journals. The United States of America and China were the top contributors in terms of research studies, while Bertrand Guidet was the most prolific author with the highest number of articles. A dual-map overlay of the literature revealed that research papers published in Molecular/Biology/Genetics and Health/Nursing/Medicine journals were frequently referenced in Medicine/Medical/Clinical journals. Older patients with coronavirus disease 2019, delirium, and frailty were new trends and developing areas of interest. This is the first bibliometric study focusing on critical care in older adults. The research topics indicate that a comprehensive geriatric assessment, tailored interventions, and specific therapeutic algorithms among older adults are recommended to improve outcomes. Furthermore, this study provides valuable insights for clinical decision-making, guideline development, and resource allocation in critical care settings.

      Focal therapy, a minimally invasive strategy for localized prostate cancer, has been widely employed in the targeted treatment of localized prostate cancer in recent years. We analyzed 1312 relevant papers from the last decade using Web of Science Core Collection data. Our analysis covered countries, institutions, journals, authors, keywords, and references to offer a multifaceted perspective on the development of this field. The U.S. led in publications, contributing over half of the top 10 institutions. Emberton, M from University College London was the most published and cited author. "EUROPEAN UROLOGY" was the top journal by impact factor in 2022. Analysis of references and keywords suggests the prevalence of brachytherapy-related research, while high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), cryotherapy, and irreversible electroporation (IRE) are emerging as new research focuses. Consequently, more high-quality evidence is necessary to evaluate the long-term effectiveness and safety of these novel therapeutic methods.

       Background: Stroke stands as a prominent cause of mortality and disability worldwide, posing a major public health concern. Recent years have witnessed rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI). Studies have explored the utilization of AI in imaging analysis, assistive rehabilitation, treatment, clinical decision-making, and outcome and risk prediction concerning stroke. However, there is still a lack of systematic bibliometric analysis to discern the current research status, hotspots, and possible future development trends of AI applications in stroke.
    Methods: The publications on the application of AI in stroke were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection, spanning 2004-2024. Only articles or reviews published in English were included in this study. Subsequently, a manual screening process was employed to eliminate literature not pertinent to the topic. Visualization diagrams for comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the included literature were generated using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Charticulator.
    Results: This bibliometric analysis included a total of 2,447 papers, and the annual publication volume shows a notable upward trajectory. The most prolific authors, countries, and institutions are Dukelow, Sean P., China, and the University of Calgary, respectively, making significant contributions to the advancement of this field. Notably, stable collaborative networks among authors and institutions have formed. Through clustering and citation burst analysis of keywords and references, the current research hotspots have been identified, including machine learning, deep learning, and AI applications in stroke rehabilitation and imaging for early diagnosis. Moreover, emerging research trends focus on machine learning as well as stroke outcomes and risk prediction.
    Conclusion: This study provides a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the literature regarding AI in stroke, facilitating a rapid comprehension of the development status, cooperative networks, and research priorities within the field. Furthermore, our analysis may provide a certain reference and guidance for future research endeavors.

       Background: Ovarian cancer is a highly aggressive malignancy with limited therapeutic options and a poor prognosis. Deubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs) have emerged as critical regulators of protein ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation, influencing various cellular processes relevant to cancer pathogenesis. In this study, the research progress between ovarian cancer and DUBs was mapped and visualized using bibliometrics, and the expression patterns and biological roles of DUBs in ovarian cancer were summarized.
    Methods: Studies related to DUBs in ovarian cancer were extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. VOSviewer 1.6.20, CiteSpace 6.3.R1, and R4.3.3 were used for bibliometric analysis and visualization.
    Results: For analysis 243 articles were included in this study. The number of publications on DUBs in ovarian cancer has gradually increased each year. China, the United States, and the United Kingdom are at the center of this field of research. The Johns Hopkins University, Genentech, and Roche Holding are the main research institutions. David Komander, Zhihua Liu, and Richard Roden are the top authors in this field. The top five journals with the largest publication volumes in this field are Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, Journal of Biological Chemistry, PLOS One, Nature Communications, and Oncotarget. Keyword burst analysis identified five research areas: "deubiquitinating enzyme," "expression," "activation," "degradation," and "ubiquitin." In addition, we summarized the expression profiles and biological roles of DUBs in ovarian cancer, highlighting their roles in tumor initiation, growth, chemoresistance, and metastasis.
    Conclusion: An overview of the research progress is provided in this study on DUBs in ovarian cancer over the last three decades. It offers insight into the most cited papers and authors, core journals, and identified new trends.

       Background: Epigenetics denotes heritable alterations in gene expression patterns independent of changes in DNA sequence. Epigenetic therapy seeks to reprogram malignant cells to a normal phenotype and has been extensively investigated in oncology. This study conducts a bibliometric analysis of epigenetic therapy in cancer, providing a comprehensive overview of current research, identifying trends, and highlighting key areas of investigation.
    Methods: Publications concerning epigenetic inhibitors in cancer spanning 2004 to 2023 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). Co-occurrence analysis using VOSviewer assessed current status and focal points. Evolutionary trends and bursts in the knowledge domain were analyzed using CiteSpace. Bibliometrix facilitated topic evolution and revealed trends in keywords. National, institutional, and author affiliations and collaborations were also examined.
    Results: A total of 2,153 articles and reviews on epigenetic therapy in oncology were identified, demonstrating a consistent upward trend over time. The United States (745 papers), University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (57 papers), and Stephen B. Baylin (27 papers) emerged as the most productive country, institution, and author, respectively. Keyword co-occurrence analysis identified five primary clusters: tumor, DNA methylation, epigenetic therapy, expression, and immunotherapy. In the past 5 years, newly emerging themes with increased centrality and density include "drug resistance," "immunotherapy," and "combination therapy." The most cited publication reviewed current understanding of potential causes of epigenetic diseases and proposed future therapeutic strategies.
    Conclusion: In the past two decades, the importance of epigenetic therapy in cancer research has become increasingly prominent. The United States occupies a key position in this field, while China, despite having published a large number of related papers, still has relatively limited influence. Current research focuses on the "combination therapy" of epigenetic drugs. Future studies should further explore the sequencing and scheduling of combination therapies, optimize trial designs and dosing regimens to improve clinical efficacy.

       Introduction: Tissue damage due to ischemia and reperfusion is a critical medical problem worldwide. Studies in this field have made remarkable advances in understanding the pathogenesis of ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury and its treatment with new and known drugs. However, no bibliometric analysis exists in this area of research.
    Methods: Research articles and reviews related to skeletal muscle I/R from 1986 to 2022 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. Bibliometric analysis was performed using Microsoft Excel 2019, VOSviewer (version 1.6.19), Bibliometrix (R-Tool for R-Studio), and CiteSpace (version 6.1.R5).
    Results: A total of 3682 research articles and reviews from 2846 institutions in 83 countries were considered in this study. Most studies were conducted in the USA. Hobson RW (UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School) had the highest publication, and Korthuis RJ (Louisiana State University) had the highest co-citations. Our analysis showed that, though the Journal of Surgical Research was most favored, the Journal of Biological Chemistry had the highest number of co-citations. The pathophysiology, interventions, and molecular mechanisms of skeletal muscle I/R injury emerged as the primary research areas, with "apoptosis," "signaling pathway," and "oxidative stress" as the main keywords of research hotspots.
    Conclusions: This study provides a thorough overview of research trends and focal points in skeletal muscle I/R injury by applying bibliometric and visualization techniques. The insights gained from our findings offer a profound understanding of the evolving landscape of skeletal muscle I/R injury research, thereby functioning as a valuable reference and roadmap for future investigations.

       BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Accelerated orthodontics represents a significant shift in dental practice aimed at reducing treatment times while maintaining optimal patient outcomes. This bibliometric analysis evaluated the research landscape of accelerated orthodontics from 2012 to 2023, focusing on publication trends, citation patterns, influential journals, leading institutions, and key contributors.
    MATERIALS AND METHODS: A comprehensive search in Scopus identified 600 relevant articles, with the top 50 most-cited papers encompassing systematic reviews, randomized controlled trials, and experimental studies. Key techniques, such as corticotomy and piezocision, have been frequently highlighted for their effectiveness in expediting tooth movement.
    RESULTS: The analysis revealed fluctuating annual scientific outputs, with notable peaks driven by technological advancements and increased patient demand for quicker orthodontic solutions. However, the production of high-impact papers was hindered by delays in citation accumulation and disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Keyword analysis identified critical themes, such as orthodontic tooth movement, malocclusion, and demographic factors, while a global collaboration map underscored extensive international research partnerships. Leading journals included the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, and prominent institutions such as the University of California at Los Angeles played significant roles in advancing the field.
    CONCLUSIONS: This study provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of accelerated orthodontics, emphasizing the need for continued research, particularly RCTs, to further refine and validate accelerated orthodontic techniques and improve clinical outcomes.

       Background: The incidence of muscle atrophy or sports injuries is increasing with time and population aging, thereby attracting considerable attention to muscle generation research. Muscle satellite cells, which play an important role in this process, lack comprehensive literature regarding their use for muscle regeneration. Hence, this study aimed to analyze the hotspots and trends in satellite cell research from 2010 to 2023, providing a reference for muscle regeneration research.
    Methods: Studies on satellite cells' role in muscle regeneration from 2010 to 2023 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. Using CiteSpace and VOSviewer, we analyzed annual publications, authors and co-citing authors, countries and institutions, journals and co-citing journals, co-citing references, and keywords.
    Results: From 2010 to 2023, 1468 papers were retrieved, indicating an overall increasing trend in the number of annual publications related to satellite cells in muscle regeneration. The United States had the highest number of publications, while the Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale was the institution with the most publications. Among journals, " PloS One" had the highest number of published papers, and "Cell" emerged as the most co-cited journal. A total of 7425 authors were involved, with Michael A. Rudnicki being the author with the highest number of publications and the most co-cited author. The most cited reference was "Satellite cells and the muscle stem cell niche." Among keywords, "satellite cells" was the most common, with "heterogeneity" having the highest centrality.        BACKGROUND: High-intensity interval training (HIIT) can significantly improve health indicators such as cardiopulmonary function, metabolic efficiency, and muscle strength in a short period. However, due to significant physiological and metabolic differences between males and females, the effects of HIIT vary between genders. Therefore, exploring the specific impacts of HIIT on women's health is crucial. Although there is a considerable amount of individual research on the impact of HIIT on women's health, a systematic bibliometric analysis is still lacking.
    METHODS: Publications related to HIIT in women's health were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database, and tools like Microsoft Office Excel 2021, VOSviewer, and Citespace were used to create visualized tables and views.
    RESULTS: The study included 808 publications distributed across 1234 institutions in 61 countries, authored by 3789 researchers. The United States, Australia, and Canada lead in this domain. Researchers like Astorino TA and Gibala MJ are notably influential in this field. The research has been prominently published in specific academic journals and widely cited by high-impact journals. In the rapid development of the past decade, research hotspots and frontier directions such as metabolic adaptation, muscle adaptation, cardiovascular health, exercise performance, and personalized training plans have been formed.

       BACKGROUND: Moral courage is a recognized virtue. Researchers have focused on various aspects of nursing moral courage, such as its conceptualization and influencing factors. Within these studies, various literature reviews have been conducted, but to our knowledge, bibliometric mapping has not been utilized.
    AIM: This article aims to analyze the production of literature within nursing moral courage research.
    RESEARCH DESIGN: To investigate publication patterns, we employed VOSviewer and CiteSpace software, focusing on publication dynamics, prolific research entities, and most cited articles. Additionally, we forecasted future research trends.
    ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS: In our study, ethical review was not required.
    RESULTS: A total of 105 information sources were identified in the WoS database. Overall, there has been a significant increase in research volume after 2020. The most prolific countries are the United States, Finland, and China, while the most prolific source title is "Nursing Ethics." Keywords are also related to moral dilemmas and ethics. However, there are further improvements needed in international cooperation.
    CONCLUSIONS: The results proposed in this paper can serve as a starting point for comprehensive or systematic literature reviews and seek more detailed data, information, and knowledge in the field of nursing moral courage. It can enable outsiders to quickly understand research on nursing moral courage, whether for in-depth exploration or simply to facilitate more effective collaboration with nursing ethics experts.

       BACKGROUND AND AIMS: As global demographics shift toward an older population, cognitive impairment is becoming increasingly critical. Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS), an innovative brain stimulation technique, has the potential to significantly improve cognitive function. Our main aim is to comprehensively analyze the existing literature, identify key aspects of tDCS research in the rehabilitation of cognitive impairment, and predict future trends in this field.
    METHODS: We used the Web of Science (WOS) database to search for English articles and reviews relevant to this topic. For visual analysis of the literature, we employed the WOS analysis tool, CiteSpace, along with VOSviewer software to ensure comprehensive analysis.
    RESULTS: We included 2940 articles published between 1998 and 2023. Over 25 years, annual publications and citations in this field increased steadily, peaking at 379 articles in 2021. Michael A. Nitsche was a major contributor. Most articles came from developed countries, primarily North America and Europe, and journals generally had modest impact factors. Research in this field primarily aims to treat cognitive impairment resulting from pathological aging or neuropsychiatric disorders, with a particular focus on specific brain regions. Recently, researchers have integrated various treatment modalities with tDCS techniques to actively investigate effective strategies to mitigate cognitive impairments associated with pathological aging.
    CONCLUSION: This study presents the first bibliometric analysis of the literature on tDCS in the rehabilitation of cognitive impairment, highlighting key areas of research and emerging trends. These findings provide critical insights for future tDCS interventions targeting cognitive impairment associated with pathological aging.

      Water pollution with fluoride can cause dental fluorosis, skeletal deformities, and other diseases, posing serious harm to human health. To understand the development status, research hotspots, and frontier trends in fluoride-containing wastewater (FCW) treatment, this study employed bibliometric methods to visually analyze 2840 publications related to FCW treatment from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database. The "bibliometrix" package in R language, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace visualization software were utilized for the analysis. The results revealed a fluctuating upward trend in the annual number of publications, indicating ongoing deepening and development of research in this field. India and China exhibited the strongest research capacity, forming a cooperation network centered around these two countries. High-impact journals such as Desalination and Water Treatment, Journal of Hazardous Materials, and Chemical Engineering Journal frequently publish research related to FCW treatment. Keyword co-occurrence and burst analysis revealed that the current research hotspots in FCW treatment primarily focus on treatment methods (ion exchange, chemical coagulation/precipitation, adsorption, electrochemical, membrane separation, and fluidized bed crystallization), adsorption mechanism, and adsorbent design and optimization. Future research will likely focus on developing efficient treatment technologies and adsorption materials for FCW, as well as the recovery of fluoride resources from FCW, highlighting a dual approach to environmental sustainability and resource management. By employing bibliometrics, this study outlines the development status of FCW treatment and predicts the field's future trends, providing insights for understanding the development trajectory of this field.

      Horizontal gene transfer (HGT) favors the acquisition and spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes in Salmonella, making it a major public health concern. We performed a bibliometric analysis to provide the current landscape of HGT in research on Salmonella AMR and identify emerging trends and potential research directions for the future. Data were collected from the Web of Science Core Collection and limited to articles and reviews published between 1999 and 2024 in English. VOSviewer 1.6.19 and CiteSpace 6.2.R1 software were used to conduct bibliometric analysis and visualize co-occurring keywords. A total of 1,467 publications were retrieved for analysis. American researchers contributed the most articles (n = 310). In the meantime, Institut National de Recherche pour l'Agriculture, l'Alimentation et l'Environnement have the highest citation/publication rate of 85.6. Recent studies have focused on the application of whole genome sequencing (WGS), Salmonella quinolone and colistin resistance, and the biocontrol of Salmonella AMR. These findings provide new insights into the role of HGT and help identify new targets for controlling the spread of AMR in Salmonella populations.

       Objective: This study aims to explore the current hot topics and future research trends in spinal schwannoma imaging research, providing a reference for related studies and promoting the development of spinal schwannoma imaging.
    Methods: We conducted a literature search in the Web of Science database using the search terms (((TS = (Spinal schwannoma)) AND TS = (Imaging)) OR TS = (Spinal schwannoma)) AND TS = (image) to retrieve relevant articles. The collected data, including authors, keywords, journals, countries, institutions, and references, were subjected to visual analysis using the visualization software CiteSpace 6.4.2R and VOSviewer 1.6.19.
    Results: A total of 310 relevant articles were identified. After further screening based on time limits, inclusion, and exclusion criteria, 179 articles were included in the study, consisting of 132 original articles and 42 reviews. These articles were authored by 1,034 authors from 35 countries and 324 institutions and were published in 82 different journals. The included articles cited a total of 6,583 references from 1,314 journals.
    Conclusion: Although the field of spinal schwannoma imaging research is not a popular research area in the medical community, there has been an increasing international interest in this field in recent years. While China ranks high in terms of the number of published articles, there is still a gap in terms of the quality and research level compared to developed countries in Europe and America. MRI, as the gold standard for diagnosing spinal schwannomas, is expected to be a research hotspot in terms of feature analysis, enhancement characteristics, and quantitative analysis. It is also hoped that China can increase its investment in research and contribute to the field by publishing high-quality articles in the future.

    Methods: Preliminary findings from 2013 identified 153 publications on AI and healthcare. Between 2019 and 2023, the number of publications increased exponentially, indicating significant growth and development in the field. The analysis employs various bibliometric indicators to assess research production performance, science mapping techniques, and thematic mapping analysis.
    Results: The study reveals insights into research hotspots, thematic focus, and emerging trends in AI and healthcare research. Based on an extensive examination of the Scopus database provides a brief overview and suggests potential avenues for further investigation.
    Conclusion: This article provides valuable contributions to understanding the current landscape of AI in healthcare, offering insights for future research directions and informing strategic decision making in the field.

       Background & objective: The extensive spread of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) worldwide has caused a dramatic negative impact on many individuals' health. This study aims to systematically and comprehensively analyze the current status and possible future directions of diabetes mellitus (DM) and COVID-19 research.
    Methods: We obtained publications about COVID-19 and DM from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) using the search terms "COVID-19″ and similar terms combined with "DM" and similar terms, with a date range of January 2020 to May 2024. And we used CiteSpace V 6.3.R2 to perform the bibliometric visualization analysis.
    Results: The search enrolled 6266 publications. The USA is a country with the most publications; Harvard University was the most productive institution in this field. The highest-ranked journal was the PLOS ONE, and the most cited journal was Lancet. The 20 most cited journals have all been cited 28754 times, accounting for 28 % of the total cites; the range of those journals was 790-3197. Publications on COVID-19 and DM research exhibited a distinct trajectory, shifting from an initial emphasis on understanding the impact of diabetes on COVID-19 infection and its associated pathophysiological mechanisms to a focus on analyzing the differential responses of diverse patient populations. Subsequently, research has progressed to examine the effects of medications and vaccines, as well as the long-term consequences of COVID-19 in diabetic individuals. Throughout this research endeavor, the exploration of diverse therapeutic interventions, their efficacy, and ultimate outcomes have consistently remained a paramount focus. And " metabolic syndrome," " long COVID," and " gestational diabetes" are still likely to be the hotspots and frontiers of research in the future.
    Conclusions: This bibliometric analysis related to DM in COVID-19 illuminates the current research situation and developmental trends, supporting researchers in the exploration of prospective directions for research.

      Hydrogels are widely used to explore emerging minimally invasive strategies for intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) due to their suitability as drug and cell delivery vehicles. There has been no review of the latest research trends and strategies of hydrogel delivery systems in IVDD for the last decade. In this study, we identify the application trends and strategies in this field through bibliometric analysis, including aspects such as publication years, countries and institutions, authors and publications, and co-occurrence of keywords. The results reveal that the literature in this field has been receiving increasing attention with a trend of growth annually. Subsequently, the hotspots of hydrogels in this field were described and discussed in detail, and we proposed the "four core factors", hydrogels, cells, cell stimulators, and microenvironmental regulation, required for a multifunctional hydrogel for IVDD. Finally, we discuss the popular and emerging mechanistic strategies of hydrogel therapy for IVDD in terms of five aspects: fundamental pathologic changes in IVDD, counteracting cellular senescence, counteracting cell death, improving organelle function, and replenishing exogenous cells. This study provides a reference and a new perspective for future research in this urgently needed field.

       BACKGROUND: Paronychia is a prevalent clinical disease profoundly affecting patients' quality of life. As ongoing evolution in modern living environments, factors contributing to paronychia are becoming increasingly diverse. Therefore, a further understanding about latest trend of paronychia is imperative and pressing.
    METHODS: A systematic literature search was performed based on Web of Science Core Collection and Science Citation Index Expanded. The search parameters encompassed keywords associated with paronychia from 1980 to 2023, and rigorous data cleaning procedures were executed to maintain the analysis's relevance and dependability, supplemented by a thorough examination of abstracts and titles. Visibility analysis was conducted with Citespace and VOSviewer tools to explore the publication trends, collaborative networks, and impactful studies.
    RESULTS: A total of 595 articles were included in this study. The annual publication trends exhibited a significant increase since 1990, reached a peak of 41 articles in 2021. Collaborative relationships among countries demonstrated strong connections, with the United States leading in both publication volume, citation records and international cooperation. Keyword analysis indicated that in recent years, a substantial body of research has concentrated on paronychia issues caused by epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors (EGFRI)-class drugs, such as Gefitinib, Erlotinib, and Afatinib, in the context of tumor treatment.
    CONCLUSION: In this area, most of the recent hotspots are not focused on the basic research about paronychia due to the basic research about traditional paronychia already reached a relative mature stage. However, with the widespread clinical application of EGFRI anticancer drugs, the incidence of drug-induced paronychia is inevitably on the rise. Therefore, with the expanding diversity in the etiology of paronychia, this area deserves a multiple discipline cooperation with a much wider international communication.

      This study examined research interest in copper materials for caries management. We conducted an exhaustive literature search of English publications on copper materials for caries management. We removed duplicate publications and screened the titles and abstracts to identify relevant publications. Then, we analyzed the bibliometric data of the publications using the Bibliometrix and VOSviewer programs. This study included 75 laboratory studies, six clinical trials, and 17 reviews. Most of the original research studied copper or copper oxide nanoparticles (45/81, 56%). The materials could be doped into topical agents, restorative fillers, dental adhesives, dental implants, and orthodontic appliances. Since the first paper was published in 1980, publication counts gradually increased and surged in 2019. Among publications on copper materials for caries management, the publication counts and citations from 2019 to 2024 accounted for 65% (64/98) and 74% (1677/2255) over the last 45 years. Cocitation analysis revealed that the two main keywords were nanoparticles and antibacterial activity, and their burst strengths (period) were 3.84 (2021-2024) and 2.21 (2020-2021). The topics of the top two publications with the highest citation burst strength (period) are the antimicrobial effect of copper oxide nanoparticles (3.14, 2021-2022) and the dental application of copper nanoparticles (2.84, 2022-2024). In conclusion, this study revealed a growing interest in copper materials for caries management.

      Over the past decade, micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs) have garnered significant attention due to their frequent detection in and potential toxic effects on the environment and organisms, making them a serious threat to human health. To comprehensively understand the research on MNPs' toxicity, we employed the R language-based Bibliometrix toolkit (version 4.3.0), VOSviewer (version 1.6.11) and CiteSpace (version 6.3.R1) to perform statistical and visual analyses of 3541 articles pertaining to MNPs' toxicity between 2014 and 2023, which were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database. The analysis revealed that research related to MNPs' toxicity has experienced a rapid increase in recent years. China's particularly prominent influence in the field of MNPs' toxicity is evidenced by its academic exchanges and the establishment of a mature cooperation system with other countries (regions), such as the USA and Germany. Studies related to MNPs' toxicity are primarily published in leading journals, including the Science of the Total Environment, Environmental Pollution, and the Journal of Hazardous Materials. The Chinese Academy of Sciences was identified as the leading institution in terms of research on MNPs' toxicity, contributing 203 papers to the total number of studies published. Keyword co-occurrence and burst analyses indicated that the current research on MNPs' toxicity mainly focuses on the toxic effects of MNPs on aquatic organisms, the combined toxicity of MNPs and other contaminants, and the toxic effects and mechanisms of MNPs. Future research should integrate computational toxicology and toxicomics to enhance our understanding of MNPs' toxicity mechanisms and assess the potential health risks posed by atmospheric MNPs.

       BACKGROUND: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine and metabolic disorder in premenopausal women, often linked to abdominal obesity, insulin resistance, and metabolic issues. With its heterogeneous nature, PCOS treatment should be tailored to individual symptoms and patient preferences. This study examines collaboration networks among countries, institutions, authors, references, and journals related to PCOS treatment.
    METHODS: Web of Science data was analyzed using VOSviewer and CiteSpace for bibliometric visualization. Chinese and Western medicine treatments for PCOS were reviewed, emphasizing symptom-targeted solutions.
    RESULTS: Data from 4682 records authored by 400 individuals from 515 institutes in 62 countries revealed China as the leading contributor. Notable authors include Monash University and Richard S. Legro. Common research themes include adipocytes, inflammation, insulin sensitivity, oxidative stress, and the gut microbiome. Tailoring treatment to individual needs is essential, focusing on hyperandrogenism, ovulation, and insulin resistance, with lifestyle counseling to address obesity.
    CONCLUSION: This bibliometric analysis provides valuable insights into the research status of PCOS treatment. China has made significant contributions, and complementary and alternative therapies, such as traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, have also shown beneficial effects recently. The research on inflammation, oxidative stress, and the gut microbiome may provide new targets and strategies for the treatment of PCOS. The recognition of the metabolic problems in PCOS patients facilitates the formulation of more personalized treatment plans to improve the prognosis of patients.

      Pragmatic impairment has become a critical aspect of language development in autistic children and has gained significant academic attention over the past two decades. This study leverages bibliometric methods to conduct an exhaustive analysis of literature derived from Web of Science database. Utilizing CiteSpace software, we construct a knowledge map to dissect the academic hotspots in research related to pragmatic impairment in autistic children. This enables us to delineate the evolutionary trajectory of this research domain, analyze the prevailing research dimensions, and anticipate potential future dimensions. Our findings indicate that research hotspots in this field over the past two decades predominantly concentrate on assessing and diagnosing pragmatic impairment in autistic children, intervention strategies, and theory of mind. The research scope on pragmatic impairment in autistic children has progressively broadened and deepened. Research has evolved from initial descriptions and interpretations of autism to exploring the theory of mind in high-functioning, school-aged children. The current emphasis is on examining the specific skills that these children possess.

       Aim: The primary objective was to assess the relationship between the citation number and the quality of the articles, as compared with the level of evidence and the MINORS score. This study's secondary objective was to characterize the 50 most cited articles in the field of oesophagectomy research.
    Background: There has been an increased need for an evaluation tool to indicate research quality. Available quality assessment tools include the Level of Evidence, the MINORS score, the Cochrane Risk of Bias 2.0 Tool, the Newcastle Ottawa Scale, CASP Appraisal Checklists, and Legend Evidence Evaluation tools.
    Methods: The Web of Science allowed evaluating and comparing articles on oesophagectomy research. The quality of the 50 most cited articles was assessed using the Oxford Centre level of evidence classification and the methodological index for non-randomized studies (MINORS).
    Results: Level of evidence II studies were cited more than level IV (P=0.008). There was a significant positive correlation between citation number and MINORS score (P=0.002). The median MINORS score was highest amongst level II studies, followed by levels III, IV, and I. The median MINORS score for level II evidence was significantly higher than for level IV (P=0.001). The study sample size is associated with higher levels of evidence but does not correlate with the citation number. Female authors contributed to 4 out of 50 articles. Recently published articles tended to be cited more frequently. More authors equated to more citations. Prospective studies are more likely to be cited.
    Conclusion: Citation analysis can be used as an indicator of quality when assessing articles. It should, however, be used with caution as highly cited work, famous authors, and journals are all more likely to be cited. Citation analysis should be used alongside other well-established tools.

Therefore, we aimed to explore the hotspots and frontiers of IVM research over the past two decades and provide direction for IVM advancement.
    METHODS: The articles and reviews related to IVM in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) were retrieved on June 03, 2024. Three bibliometric tools, VOSviewer 1.6.18 (2010), CiteSpace 6.1. R6 (2006), and Bibliometrix R package 4.1.0 (2017), were used to generate network maps and explore knowledge frontiers and trends. To uncover the latest research advancements and frontiers in the IVM field, we conducted an analysis of the entire IVM field, including all species. Given our focus on human IVM developments, we identified the leading countries, institutions, authors, and journals driving progress in human IVM.
    RESULTS: A total of 5150 publications about IVM and 1534 publications in the specific context of human IVM were retrieved from the WoSCC. The number of publications on both overall IVM and human IVM fields has increased steadily. In human IVM, the United States (USA) and McGill University were the most prolific country and institution, respectively. Human Reproduction was both the most published in and the most cited journal in human IVM. Seang Lin, Tan was the most productive author, and Ri-Cheng, Chian's papers were the most cited in human IVM. Furthermore, five hotspot topics were summarized, namely, culture system, supplementation, cooperation in the ovarian follicle, gene expression, and oocyte cryopreservation.
    CONCLUSIONS: Further studies could concentrate on the following topics: (1) the mechanisms involved in oocyte maturation in vivo and in vitro, especially in energy metabolism and intercellular communications; (2) the establishment of IVM culture systems, including standardization of the biphasic IVM culture system and supplementation; (3) the genetic differences between oocytes matured in vivo and in vitro; and (4) the mechanism of cryopreservation-inflicted damage and solutions to this challenge. For human IVM, it is necessary to precisely assess the developmental stages of oocytes and adjust the IVM process accordingly to develop tailored culture media. Concurrently, clinical trials are essential for evaluating the effectiveness and safety of IVM.

       BACKGROUND: An estimated 180,000 burn deaths occur each year, and the immune system plays a vital role in wound healing and burn complications, including inflammatory reactions and oxidative stress. This paper aims to explore the basic knowledge and dynamic hotspots in burns and immunology research with bibliometric methods.
    METHODS: Through systematic retrieval, we ensured all the documents complied with our retrieval strategy and were included in the Science Citation Index-Expanded of the Web of Science Core Collection. Using bibliometric methodologies, the general information was delineated; and foundational knowledge, as well as dynamic research hotspots, were ascertained through VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and R-bibliometrix.
    RESULTS: 8758 publications were identified from January 1st, 2000, to June 17th, 2024. The most productive and collaborative country was the USA; Harvard University was the most productive affiliation; and the most productive author was David N. Herndon. According to source analysis, the highest-impact journal is Burns. Historically, "expression" was the most frequently occurring word. "Delivery" was the most frequently occurring word in recent years.
    CONCLUSION: The domain of burns and immunology has reached a zenith, with a modest decline in publication output over the past two years, yet it continues to evolve robustly. The focal points of inquiry have evolved from the initial appraisal of immunotherapeutic interventions for critical burn injuries to the elucidation of immune cell mechanisms in burn patients. Future research trajectory is poised to innovate therapeutic modalities, encompassing anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and targeted drug delivery systems, to enhance precision in immune modulation.

       BACKGROUND: Computational toxicology utilizes computer models and simulations to predict the toxicity of chemicals. Bibliometric studies evaluate the impact of scientific research in a specific field.
    METHODS: A bibliometric analysis of the computational methods used in toxicity assessment was conducted on the Web of Science between 1977 and 2024 February 12.
    RESULTS: Findings of this study showed that computational toxicology has evolved considerably over the years, moving towards more advanced computational methods, including machine learning, molecular docking, and deep learning. Artificial intelligence significantly enhances computational toxicology research by improving the accuracy and efficiency of toxicity predictions.
    CONCLUSION: Generally, the study highlighted a significant rise in research output in computational toxicology, with a growing interest in advanced methods and a notable focus on refining predictive models to optimize drug properties using tools like pkCSM for more precise predictions.

      The impact of heat exposure on the health and performance of soccer players is a widely discussed topic. The purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive overview of the international literature that has addressed this issue. To achieve this objective, we initially conducted a bibliometric analysis and a literature review of the main topics that emerged through bibliometric techniques. For the bibliometric analysis, we employed VOSviewer software (version 1.6.20.0) and used documents found in the Scopus database. The analysis ultimately included 133 documents published in 66 sources. Key journals and authors were identified, highlighting significant contributions to the field. Science mapping revealed collaboration networks and research focus areas such as physical health, safety, soccer performance, dehydration and hydration, physiological mechanisms and monitoring, nutrition, fluid intake, and cooling techniques. Based on the key areas highlighted in the identified clusters, which emerged from the co-occurrence analysis of the author keywords, the following three topics were developed in the literature review: (a) the physiology and health of football players; (b) performance impacts; and (c) strategies to prevent negative consequences. The review showed that high heat exposure can reduce the physical and cognitive performance of athletes and prove detrimental to their health. To mitigate the negative consequences, appropriate hydration strategies, heat acclimatization, and cooling techniques have been proposed. Our findings provide the international scientific community with comprehensive knowledge of the existing literature, laying the foundation for future research while simultaneously offering coaches and athletes the necessary theoretical knowledge to help improve safety and performance.

      The global prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is increasing. ASD manifests with persistent social communication and interaction challenges, limited interests, and repetitive behaviors. As the scientific literature on ASD in adults varies greatly, mapping the recent global research becomes valuable for enhancing comprehension of this subject. This study aims to map recent global scientific publications on ASD in adults. Using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses, bibliometrics, and network analyses, we assessed 850 articles indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection between 2013 and 2022 assigned to the research area of psychology. Findings indicate an annual average growth of 11.69%. Key keywords include Emotion, Anxiety, and Depression, with Anxiety, Depression, and Mental Health as central nodes in the network. Rehabilitation, Behavioral Sciences, and Psychiatry frequently co-occur, and Psychology, Psychiatry, and 'Neurosciences and Neurology' are central nodes in the network of research areas. The United States of America and the United Kingdom lead in publications, with the United Kingdom being the most central country in the network. King's College London and the University of California are the main research organizations, with King's College London as the central node in the network. The American Psychiatric Association's DSM-5-TR was the most cited reference in the period. This comprehensive analysis contributes to understanding the landscape of ASD research in adults, providing insights for future research and fostering collaborations.

       Background: Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) is a proven treatment for many psychological disorders. It has been extensively studied and is effective for anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia. However, a bibliometric analysis of the CBT literature for these disorders is needed. This study reviewed this field's research and identifies key trends, influential studies, and gaps.
    Methods: Using MeSH-generated keywords and PRISMA guidelines, the Scopus database retrieved bibliographic data without temporal or geographical constraints. Data-driven studies were analyzed for performance, collaborative pattern, impact, co-word frequency, knowledge structure, and trending topics using R-package-based Bibliometrix and VOSviewer applications. The current study applied bibliometric and statistical analyses.
    Results: Scopus yielded 2757 studies since inception in 1979. The polynomial regression coefficient of 0.945 (R2) indicates a strong positive trend, and the research has increased at an annual rate of 12.67 %. Scholars from five countries had a noteworthy production of CBT research in treating PsD, namely the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, and the Netherlands. Depression, oppositional defiant disorder, schizophrenia, and implementation are the clusters in the CBT research map. The thematic map needed to meet the desired criteria for representing all anticipated themes. Thematic evolution is evidence of noticeable changes that contributed to the creation of new research clusters and the disappearance of some of them. COVID-19 has significantly impacted the adoption and efficacy of internet-based interventions for mental health. The cross-sectional study provides valuable insights into the development and dissemination of CBT in Saudi Arabia, emphasizing the importance of training, awareness, and research.
    Conclusions: This study proposes that further investigation be conducted in contemporary literature to create a comprehensive framework for enhancing policy decisions regarding CBT.

      Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a profound neurodevelopmental disorder. Currently, the diagnosis of ADHD relies on clinical assessments and lacks objective testing. Research in electroencephalography (EEG) offers new hope for the diagnosis of ADHD, with researchers actively seeking objective EEG biomarkers. This study conducts a bibliometric analysis of the application of EEG in ADHD, aiming to provide a brief overview of the characteristics, main research areas, development paths, and trends in this field. The Web of Science Core Collection was queried on June 10, 2024, to gather relevant scholarly works from the period of 2004 to 2023. Analysis was conducted using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Microsoft Excel 2019. In the past 20 years, 1162 documents qualified, with a swift rise in annual publications. The USA, University of London, and Barry RJ led in productivity and impact, while the Clinical Neurophysiology topped in publication volume and citations. High-frequency terms include "ADHD," "EEG," "event-related potentials (ERP)," "children," and "neurofeedback." Clustering key terms such as "cognitive control," "theta waves," "epilepsy," "graph theory," "machine learning," and "neurofeedback" form the cornerstone of the current core research areas. At the same time, a series of emerging research frontiers are gradually emerging, including "theta/beta ratio (TBR)," "P300 wave," "neurofeedback," and "deep learning." Over the past 2 decades, research on the application of EEG in ADHD has been burgeoning, with themes becoming increasingly profound. These insights provide key guidance on current trends, development trajectories, and future challenges in the field.

       BACKGROUND: Collaborations are an essential element of scientific activity and particularly important in fields such as pediatric anesthesiology, where the evidence base in general is relatively limited. A recent scientometric analysis revealed a geographic diversification of publication activity in pediatric anesthesiology within the last two decades, accompanied by a surge in international collaborations.
    OBJECTIVES: Given the hypothesis of a similar growth in the activity and dynamics of publications in pediatric anesthesiology, the objective of this scientometric study was to analyze the publication activity and collaboration habits in research in pediatric anesthesiology from Germany, Austria and Switzerland (D-A-CH).
    METHOD: This secondary analysis identified all publications on pediatric anesthesiology with an affiliation from the D‑A-CH countries between 2001 and 2020 from PubMed and Web of Science. The query parameters included the timeframe 2001-2020, authors' affiliations tied to anesthesiology departments (using various forms of the term "anesthesia"), and the mention of pediatric interest in titles or abstracts. The data underwent standardization to account for linguistic variations. The publications were assigned to a state, city and institution based on the correspondence address, to a year based on the publication date and to a source based on the journal. The primary endpoint was publication activity and dynamics, represented by the number of publications and the respective growth rates (calculated as the linear regression slope). Secondary endpoints included the share of collaborations within and outside the D‑A-CH region (at the country and institutional level), the distribution of publication activity and the most prominent sources of publications.
    RESULTS: Between 2001 and 2020 a total of 3406 publications on pediatric anesthesiology involving authors from the D‑A-CH countries were identified. Of these 2807 (82.4%) had a correspondence address in D‑A-CH. The average annual growth rate of publications with a correspondence address was + 2.9% for the D‑A-CH countries and + 7.7% for publications with collaborations. The number of publications in which an institution from D‑A-CH was named as a coauthor from a correspondence address outside D‑A-CH also increased by an average of 7.4% per year during the study period. The majority of collaborations occurred between institutions within the D‑A-CH region, although Swiss institutions exhibited a much higher proportion of collaborations outside the region. Of all publications with a correspondence address 90% originated from 46 cities. The most prominent source was Die Anästhesiologie for publications from Germany, and Pediatric Anesthesia for publications from Austria and Switzerland.
    CONCLUSION: The number of publications in pediatric anesthesiology from the D‑A-CH countries has increased over the past two decades, accompanied by a surge in collaborations. It is hoped that increased collaboration will contribute to a higher level of evidence in pediatric anesthesiology care.

      The emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has presented new challenges and opportunities for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), aiming to provide objective assessments and improve clinical effectiveness. However, there is a lack of comprehensive analyses on the research trajectory, key directions, current trends, and future perspectives in this field. This research aims to comprehensively update the progress of AI in TCM over the past 24 years, based on data from the Web of Science database covering January 1, 2000, to March 1, 2024. Using advanced analytical tools, we conducted detailed bibliometric and visual analyses. The results highlight China's predominant influence, contributing 54.35 % of the total publications and playing a key role in shaping research in this field. Significant productivity was observed at institutions such as the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, and Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, with Wang Yu being the most prolific contributor. The journal Molecules contributed the most publications in this field. This study identified hepatocellular carcinoma, chemical and drug-induced liver injury, Papillon-Lefèvre disease, Parkinson's disease, and anorexia as the most significant disorders researched. This comprehensive bibliometric assessment benefits both seasoned researchers and newcomers, offering quick access to essential information and fostering the generation of innovative ideas in this field.

       OBJECTIVE: This study analyzes gender disparities between men and women otolaryngology faculty in the top 20 otolaryngology departments ranked by research output and discusses the implications of these disparities.
    METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study of all articles published by faculty from January 2020 to December 2021 at the top 20 otolaryngology departments as ranked by Doximity's 2022 research output report. Integrated data from Web of Science, faculty directories, and NIH RePORT were used to collect data on faculty. Social network analysis was performed using ORA-LITE. Student's and Welch's t-tests and Pearson chi-squared tests were used to evaluate gender differences in academic metrics.
    RESULTS: The findings revealed significant gender disparities, with men holding higher academic positions (men = 3.16, women = 2.69, p < 0.0001), higher H-indices (22.4, 13.8, p < 0.0001), more NIH grants (0.15, 0.07, p = 0.0032), and greater total degree centrality (3.98E-4, 2.4E-4, p < 0.0001) and betweenness centrality (4.47E-3, 3.00E-3, p = 0.0021). Men also had more publications (9.8, 6.8, p < 0.0001) with more distinct co-authors, both within (4, 3.1, p = 0.0074) and across (38.1, 25.8, p < 0.0001) institutions. Disparities persisted after accounting for career length. Notably, total degree centrality differences between men and women were statistically significant from 1991 to 2017 (p < 0.0001), but not from 2018 to 2022 (p = 0.83).
    CONCLUSIONS: This study highlights gender inequities in otolaryngology, encouraging mentors to foster new collaborations with female peers. Importantly, it identifies a trend toward narrowing the gender gap within the specialty, particularly over the past 5 years, emphasizing the need to sustain these positive changes for enhanced gender equity.

       INTRODUCTION: Individual researcher impact through scientific citations is carefully monitored, with little attention to the impact of individual journals through policy and patent mentions. We aimed to describe policy and patent mentions for articles published in Clinical Toxicology.
    METHODS: Using Altmetric Explorer, we extracted mentions from 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2023, noting the citing source, Clinical Toxicology article title, and author-generated keywords. We used descriptive statistics to analyse the data.
    RESULTS: We identified 165 individual policy documents (n = 139) and patents (n = 26), citing 146 articles with median of 6.4 years between publication and mention. The highest number of citing documents were by the World Health Organization (n = 45), European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (n = 22), and United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (n = 16). Most patents were registered in the United States (n = 17) and by the European Patent Office (n = 10), with the main classification of human necessities (n = 23). The commonest subjects of papers cited in policy and patents, from keywords, related to medical conditions and symptoms (26%) and recreational drugs (22%). The most cited article was "A systematic review of adverse events arising from the use of synthetic cannabinoids and their associated treatment."
    DISCUSSION: Clinical Toxicology articles are cited in policy documents and patents, with a comparable number of mentions to the top-ranked journals in the field. This likely contributes to policy impact, but further work is needed to understand how cited articles are used and ripple effects through onwards citations of policy documents.
    CONCLUSIONS: Clinical Toxicology is a toxicology journal for which published research gets recognised within influential policy sources. The Journal can play a key role in guiding public health policy through its selection and development of submitted publications.

       Introduction: The causality between personality and psychiatric traits and lung cancer (LC) remains unclear. Therefore, we aimed to elucidate the causality between these traits and LC.
    Methods: Bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) and bibliometric approaches were conducted to estimate the causality between personality (neuroticism, extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness) and psychiatric (schizophrenia, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder [ADHD], major depressive disorder, autism spectrum disorder, bipolar disorder, insomnia, and anxiety) traits and LC and its subtypes (lung squamous cell carcinoma, lung adenocarcinoma, and small cell LC). Summary data of these traits were extracted from large datasets (17,375-462,341 participants). Inverse variance weighting was used as the primary MR analysis, with supplementary models, including MR-Egger and weighted medians. Sensitivity analyses were conducted to detect pleiotropy. Bibliometric data were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection, Scopus, and PubMed. The main mapping techniques adopted were co-word, collaboration, and citation analyses.
    Results: Schizophrenia was associated with an increased risk of LC (odds ratio [OR] = 1.077, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.030-1.126, P = 0.001). Moreover, LC increased the risk of ADHD (OR = 1.221, 95% CI = 1.096-1.362, P < 0.001). No significant bidirectional associations were observed between other mental traits and LC and its subtypes. Causality, psychiatry, and psychiatric comorbidity are emerging keywords. Research dynamics and landscapes were revealed.
    Conclusion: This study suggests that schizophrenia is a risk factor for LC and that LC is a risk factor for ADHD. Furthermore, causality, psychiatry, and psychiatric comorbidity have become emerging research trends in related fields.

      GingerALE, a widely used neuroimaging meta-analysis software package, contained errors in earlier versions that were later corrected. The technical report "Implementation errors in the GingerALE Software: description and recommendations" by Eickhoff et al. (2017) documented these errors and their corresponding fixes. In the current study, the papers that cited the GingerALE technical report were analyzed to identify the reasons for these citations. In August 2023, a search through Web of Science Core Collection identified 158 papers that cited the GingerALE technical report. These papers were manually examined to extract the citation statements and code the citation reasons into 12 categories. The analysis revealed that the most frequent reason for citing the report was to justify the use of a specific statistical threshold, followed by a simple acknowledgement of using GingerALE, acknowledging the impact of the errors in earlier versions of GingerALE on prior studies or the lack of effect on current results, and justifying the number of experiments in a meta-analysis. A small number of reasons related to non-GingerALE software, matters not related to activation likelihood estimation (ALE), or statements not mentioned in the GingerALE technical report.

      (1) Background: This study aimed to quantify and evaluate the publication rate and discrepancies of functional urology abstracts from international conferences, and to explore the interdisciplinary contributions of urology and gynecology to the field. (2) Methods: A retrospective bibliometric and content analysis was conducted on abstracts presented between 2015 and 2019 at the EAU and ICS congresses, focusing on functional-urological keywords. A discrepancy scoring system ranging from 0 (minor discrepancies) to 3 (significant discrepancies) assessed the consistency between conference abstracts and full-text publications, and an in-depth analysis determined the disciplinary origin of these publications. (3) Results: Between 2015 and 2019, 53% of EAU and 57% of ICS congress abstracts were published as full-text articles, with minor discrepancies in 38% of EAU and 49% of ICS publications, and significant discrepancies in 17% from both. Urology departments dominated publications, contributing 68% at EAU and 55% at ICS, whereas gynecology contributed only 1% at EAU and 12% at ICS. (4) Conclusions: This study illuminates the need for improved reporting standards and interdisciplinary collaboration in functional urology, as well as increased gynecology research in functional urology-related fields, suggesting that addressing these issues is crucial for advancing the field and enhancing patient care.

      Health care-associated infections (HCAIs) pose a substantial threat to immunocompromised individuals and represent a frequent adverse event in health care delivery. The aim of this study was to evaluate the global research landscape of HCAIs among immunocompromised populations before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. A systematic search of articles published between 2013 and 2022 in the Web of Science Core Collection database was conducted, and content analytics and integrated science mapping were used for data analysis and interpretation. The review identified 1,473 articles. Only 633 articles authored by 4,151 individuals and published in 366 journals were included. The average citation rate was 14.27 per document, and research production grew annually by 9.07% peaking in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic but declining in 2022. The United States emerged as the most productive country, with 743 publication appearances and 2,485 citations. Keywords such as "epidemiology," "infection," "mortality," and "risk factors" were frequently encountered in the analyzed literature. The main research themes, including "mortality," "sepsis," "immunosuppression," "expression," and "pneumonia," underscored the focal points of importance within this domain. This study highlighted the growing interest regarding HCAIs in immunocompromised populations, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study findings underscore the need to advance research efforts to understand different immunocompromised states, develop tailored infection prevention measures, and address health care disparities to mitigate the burden of HCAIs among immunocompromised individuals.

      As the population ages, cognitive impairment leading to dementia and related disorders presents an increasingly significant societal burden. Transcranial alternating current stimulation emerges as a potential noninvasive treatment, yet remains an area of ongoing research. Using the Science Citation Index Expanded within the Web of Science Core Collection database, we identified 144 relevant articles spanning from 1965 to December 1st, 2023. Analyzing these papers with tools like 6.2.R5Citespace and 1.6.20VOS viewer revealed gamma frequency as the predominant stimulus (32), followed by theta (19), alpha (11), delta (2), beta (3), and others (32). This topic was relatively novel, showing an upward trend, albeit with gaps in some countries. Significant contributions were observed, particularly from authors in the USA, Germany, and Italy. Brain connectivity and oscillation stood out as the primary research subjects, with electroencephalography being the most widely used tool to detect underlying mechanisms. Our findings suggest promising applications of transcranial alternating current stimulation, particularly 40 Hz-gamma, in cognitive impairment among older adults, highlighting the need for further investigation using multimodal cognitive assessment tools and rigorous clinical research.

       Introduction: Liver diseases represent a significant global health challenge, with primary causes including excessive alcohol consumption, infections, chemotherapy, and autoimmune disorders. Medicinal plants, due to their natural bioactive compounds, hold promise for developing effective treatments and preventive measures against liver ailments. This study aimed to document the use of herbal remedies in northeastern Morocco for liver diseases and correlate these uses with scientific evidence through a bibliometric analysis.
    Methods: An ethnobotanical survey was conducted in remote communities of northeastern Morocco from October 2020 to January 2022. A total of 189 informants were interviewed using semi-structured questionnaires to gather information on local medicinal plants used for liver ailments. The data were analyzed using four ethnobotanical quantitative indices: use value (UV), familial use value (FUV), informant consensus factor (ICF), and fidelity level (FL). Additionally, a bibliometric analysis was performed to evaluate the scientific support for the ethnopharmacological uses documented.
    Results: The survey identified 45 plant species from 26 different families used in the treatment of liver diseases. The most frequently utilized species were Cuminum cyminum L. (UV = 0.1065), Allium sativum L. (UV = 0.1015), Salvia officinalis L. (UV = 0.0761), Asparagus officinalis L. (UV = 0.0558), and Ziziphus lotus (L.) Lam. (UV = 0.0457). The Apiaceae family showed the highest familial use value (FUV = 0.1066), followed by Alliaceae (FUV = 0.1015). Liver congestion had the highest informant consensus factor (ICF = 0.83), followed by hepatic colic (ICF = 0.80). Bibliometric analysis revealed that 61% of the plants identified had documented pharmacological effects related to liver health.
    Discussion: The study demonstrates that traditional knowledge in northeastern Morocco encompasses a rich diversity of medicinal plants used to treat liver diseases. The high ICF values indicate a strong consensus among informants on the efficacy of these remedies. The correlation between ethnopharmacological use and scientific validation for a significant portion of these plants suggests their potential as reliable therapeutic agents for liver conditions. However, further scientific investigations are necessary to confirm their efficacy and safety in clinical settings. This research contributes valuable information for future studies on the therapeutic potential of these plants.
    Conclusion: This ethnobotanical survey provides a comprehensive database of medicinal plants used in northeastern Morocco for liver diseases. The findings highlight the potential of these plants in developing novel treatments for hepatic conditions, although further research is essential to substantiate their therapeutic claims.

       OBJECTIVES: to map the nursing theories developed in stricto sensu graduate programs in nursing in Brazil.
    METHODS: a bibliometric study, carried out on the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel Theses and Dissertations Portal in October 2023. The controlled descriptors "Nursing Theory" and "Nursing Models" and the uncontrolled descriptors "Theories" and "Middle-Range Theory" were used. Selected studies were cataloged for analysis, which was conducted by the study authors, who have a doctoral degree and expertise in research on nursing theories.
    RESULTS: thirty-nine nursing theories were mapped, with a predominance of middle-range theories (79.5%), focusing on nursing diagnostic concepts and use of the theoretical-methodology strategy of theoretical-causal validity.
    CONCLUSIONS: the study identified nursing theories developed in Brazil, recognizing trends, development strategies, theorized objects of disciplinary interest and investments necessary for practical application in Brazilian contexts.

      Observational studies have suggested associations between multiple inflammatory factors and tobacco and alcohol use, but establishing causation is challenging in epidemiological investigations. We employed genetic association data about the circulating levels of 41 cytokines obtained from the genome-wide association study (GWAS), which contained 8293 Finnish participants. Genetic data on 5 substance use phenotypes were obtained from the GWAS dataset containing 1.2 million European subjects. Then, we conducted a bidirectional mendelian randomization (MR) study. The forward results indicated that smoking cessation was positively correlated with hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), interleukin-10 (IL-10), and stem cell factor (SCF); cigarettes per day was a risk factor associated with high expression in stromal cell-derived factor 1α (SDF-1 A), interferon-γ (IFN-G), IL-4, and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF); drinks per week and smoking initiation were risk factors respectively correlated with reduced HGF and IL-2RA levels. During inverse MR analysis, the findings revealed that both IL-16 and IL-18 increased the risk of cigarettes per day; macrophage inflammatory protein-1β (MIP-1B) and tumor necrosis factor-β (TNF-B) inhibited and promoted smoking cessation, respectively; macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF) elevated the risk of drinks per week, while interferon inducible protein 10 (IP-10) had a contrary role; IL-7 and M-CSF respectively prolonged and shortened age of initiation of regular smoking. This study provides genetic proof supporting a causal relationship between various inflammatory factors and addiction phenotypes. Further comprehensive investigations are required to uncover underlying biological mechanisms. In addition, bibliometric studies have shown that oxidative stress is one of the most important orientations in alcohol and tobacco addiction research, where an in-depth investigation of its pro-inflammatory mechanisms would facilitate the development of potential therapeutic biological targets and drugs.

      Objective: This study investigated mental health issues among higher education students to identify key concepts, topics, and trends over three periods of time: Period 1 (2000-2009), Period 2 (2010-2019), and Period 3 (2020-May 2024). Methods: The study collected 11,732 bibliographic records from Scopus and Web of Science, published between January 2000 and May 2024, and employed textual analysis methods, including keyword co-occurrence analysis, cluster analysis, and topic modeling. Results: In Period 1, general topics related to mental health disorders and treatments were identified. Period 2 showed prominence of well-being and help-seeking, as well as the emergence of digital mental health. Period 3 emphasized the impact of COVID-19 and increased technology usage. Conclusions: Based on the findings, we discussed the significance of the study and practical implications for clinicians and policymakers, as well as methodological implications for researchers. Additionally, the limitations of the study and future research were addressed.

       OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this content analysis study was to characterize patterns of research on Black youth with ADHD.
    METHOD: Relevant articles were identified through searching psychology and medical databases and cross-referencing citations in previously published review articles. The 204 empirical articles included in this study (1) were conducted in the United States, (2) had a predominantly child or adolescent sample, (3) had more than 80% Black youth/families in the study sample and/or conducted separate analyses for Black youth/families, and (4) examined ADHD symptoms or diagnoses. Articles were categorized into five primary content areas: Assessment, Treatment, Perceptions, Prevalence, and Associated Correlates. Journal characteristics, sample characteristics, and methodological characteristics are presented across these content areas.
    RESULTS: Findings show a relatively low representation of Black youth with ADHD in the literature, with most studies using race comparative approaches and secondary data analyses, and many being published in medical journals.
    CONCLUSION: Based on these results, changes are recommended both at the individual study and broader systems levels (e.g., funding agencies). More research, funding, and publications centering Black youth with ADHD are vital to understanding and correcting long-standing health disparities for this community.

       Objective: This study explored the influence of the life course on mental health by identifying key trends, seminal works, and themes in existing research. Additionally, it highlights the major discussions at the intersection of life course and mental health.
    Methods: Documents were extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC), to systematically analyze themes on mental health outcomes across the life course. The analysis was based on key bibliometric tools, including VOSviewer 1.6.11, R Studio software, and GraphPad Prism 9 to analyze the evolution and impact of scholarly contributions in this domain.
    Results: The accumulated body of research concerning the life course's impact on mental health, which began to emerge around 1990 displayed a consistently upward trend. Predominant contributions originate from developed nations and frequently look into the psychosocial determinants of mental health over life course. Life course and mental health studies have been extensively infused with biopsychosocial frameworks that consider the role of genetic makeup, neurodevelopment, cognition, affect, sociocultural dynamics, and interpersonal relationships. Life course theory application in mental health highlight the substantive effects of accumulated adversities, notably social determinants of health, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and their implications for subsequent mental health outcomes.
    Conclusion: The nexus of life course and mental health outcomes demands further scholarly interrogation, particularly within underserved regions, to strengthen protective mechanisms for vulnerable populations.

      Despite movements towards gender parity within academia, women faculty continue to be paid less than men. While previous research has explained the gap using academic rank/seniority and productivity, existing findings are limited by either their examination of base pay or reliance on self-reported data. Here we extend the analysis beyond base pay, link faculty salary records of one public university system in the U.S. to the OpenAlex bibliometric database, and separately analyze the gender pay gap in the base (grade) and other pay (off-grade). Using stepwise regression models, we find that faculty rank accounts for a significant gap in the base pay while performance-based variables such as H-index or specialization do not play a crucial role. For other pay, no variables stand out in explaining the substantial pay gap between women and men faculty. Our results suggest that a primary source of the remaining gender pay gap is the off-grade pay. Different policy approaches are required to reduce the gender pay gap depending on the specific type of salary being targeted.
