      Bibliometric analysis is a rigorous method to analyze significant quantities of bibliometric data to assess their impact on a particular field. This study used bibliometric analysis to investigate the academic research on diabetes detection and classification from 2000 to 2023. The PRISMA 2020 framework was followed to identify, filter, and select relevant papers. This study used the Web of Science database to determine relevant publications concerning diabetes detection and classification using the keywords "diabetes detection", "diabetes classification", and "diabetes detection and classification". A total of 863 publications were selected for analysis. The research applied two bibliometric techniques: performance analysis and science mapping. Various bibliometric parameters, including publication analysis, trend analysis, citation analysis, and networking analysis, were used to assess the performance of these articles. The analysis findings showed that India, China, and the United States are the top three countries with the highest number of publications and citations on diabetes detection and classification. The most frequently used keywords are machine learning, diabetic retinopathy, and deep learning. Additionally, the study identified "classification", "diagnosis", and "validation" as the prevailing topics for diabetes identification. This research contributes valuable insights into the academic landscape of diabetes detection and classification.

       INTRODUCTION: Lung cancer is a significant cause of mortality, especially among smokers. Lung cancer and smoking are strongly associated, according to numerous studies.
    METHODS: Publications related to smoking and lung cancer were retrieved from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) database of the Web of Science Core Collection for the period 1994-2023. Descriptive and visual analyses were performed on the topics, journals, countries, institutions, authors, and citations of the publications.
    RESULTS: A total of 728 articles were retrieved from the Web of Science (WOS) SCIE database for the period January 1994 to December 2023, and the number of publications in the relevant literature demonstrated a progressive increase with time. A total of 647 articles were classified as experimental, while 81 were classified as reviews. The studies were published in 200 journals. The three journals that published the most articles were the American Journal of Epidemiology with 82 articles, Lung Cancer with 34 articles, and Cancer Causes and Control with 26 articles. The three most prolific countries were the United States (286 articles, 38.3%; 15879 citations), China (116 articles, 15.9%; 2911 citations), and France (75 articles, 10.3%; 3694 citations). The four most popular keywords in this field are 'early cancer detection', 'experimental', 'CT', and 'survival rate'.
    CONCLUSIONS: The findings of our study revealed key areas for focus in smoking and lung cancer research, having a view of supplying important data and motivation for further investigations.

      Core Tip: This was the first bibliometric analysis of gut-brain axis, analyzing the current status and future trends. The annual publication output would be constantly increasing in the future.        OBJECTIVE: To summarize and visualize the status quo, future hotspots and development trend of ED-related researches in China through bibliometric analysis.
    METHODS: We searched the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) and the database of Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) for ED-related studies published in China from January 1, 2010 to August 14, 2023. Using the CiteSpace and VOSviewer softwares, we bibliometrically analyzed and visualized the related journals, regions, institutions, authors, key words, co-citations and other indexes of the identified studies.
    RESULTS: A total of 2,465 ED-related studies were retrieved, with an increasing number of publications year by year, relatively more in the southeast region, with Sun Yat-sen University ranking the first in the number of published articles (n = 169), LIU Jihong (n = 73), WANG Tao (n = 71) and JIANG Rui (n = 49) as the top three prolific core authors. The first two Chinese journals with the most ED-related publications were Chinese Journal of Andrology (n = 320) and Journal of Sexual Medicine (n = 128), and the latter was also the mostly cited (n = 5 060). Keyword co-occurrence analysis showed that the highest-frequency Chinese terms included impotence, anxiety, andrology, expert consensus, experience of famous doctors, acupuncture, Earthworm protein (Chinese) and hypertension, and the English terms included erectile dysfunction, apoptosis, inflammation, fibrosis, risk and women.
    CONCLUSION: Recent years have wit-nessed a rapid development in ED-related studies in China, with the risk factors and patho-genic mechanisms of ED as hot topics. PDE5 inhibitors and adipose-derived stem cells for the treatment of ED have attracted long and continuous attention and will remain an important target of future research.

       Objective: This study aimed to analyze research on anxiety disorders using VOSviewer and CiteSpace to identify research hotspots and future directions.
    Methods: We conduct ed a comprehensive search on the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) for relevant studies about anxiety disorders published within the past two decades (from 2004 to 2024). VOSviewer and CiteSpace were mainly used to analyze the authors, institutions, countries, publishing journals, reference co-citation patterns, keyword co-occurrence, keyword clustering, and other aspects to construct a knowledge atlas.
    Results: A total of 22,267 publications related to anxiety disorders were retrieved. The number of publications about anxiety disorders has generally increased over time, with some fluctuations. The United States emerged as the most productive country, with Harvard University identified as the most prolific institution and Brenda W. J. H. Penninx as the most prolific author in the field.
    Conclusion: This research identified the most influential publications, authors, journals, institutions, and countries in the field of anxiety research. Future research directions are involved advanced treatments based on pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy and digital interventions, mechanism exploration to anxiety disorders based on neurobiological and genetic basis, influence of social and environmental factors on the onset of anxiety disorders.

       Background: Nursing can effectively prevent and ameliorate diabetic foot ulcers (DFU). However, there is a lack of literature on the bibliometric analysis of DFU nursing. This study aimed to analyze the research hotspots and development trends in DFU nursing over the past 10 years to provide references for future related research.
    Methods: The Web of Science Core Collection was used to retrieve literature related to DFU nursing from 2013 to 2023. Analyses included the annual publication trends; author, institution, and country collaborations; journal and literature co-citation; and keyword co-occurrence, clustering, and bursting, performed using CiteSpace 5.8 R3.
    Results: A total of 229 papers were included, showing an upward trend in annual publications. American scholar David G Armstrong (n = 3) and King's College Hospital London (n = 4) were the most productive authors and institutions, respectively. The United States ranked first (n = 45) in national contributions, followed by China and Brazil. The overall research strength between authors and institutions was relatively scattered, and intensive cooperation has not yet been formed. National collaborations resulted in a core team dominated by Europe and North America with concentrated research strengths. The most frequently co-cited journal and co-cited reference were Diabetes Care (111 citations) and Armstrong DG (2017) (131 citations), separately. Research hotspots mainly focused on risk assessment, classification systems, protective measures, and clinical management of DFU. "Primary care" and "intervention efficacy" were identified as the research trends in the coming years.
    Conclusion: The field of DFU nursing requires more attention. Academic exchange and cooperation between authors, institutions, and countries should be strengthened. Our future research will focus on the latest hotspots and trends, conducting more in-depth and comprehensive studies on DFU management.

       Background: Music therapy is a rapidly evolving multidisciplinary field. But there has been no research analyzing the latest research status and development trends in this research field from a macro perspective. We aim to identify hotspots, knowledge base, and frontiers in the field of music therapy through bibliometric analysis.
    Methods: All data were retrieved from the Web of Science core database from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2022.CiteSpace and Bibliometrix software were employed for bibliometric analysis and visualization analysis.
    Results: A total of 2,397 articles were included. In the past decade, there has been a consistent increase in the number of publications. The countries and institutions with the largest production in this field are the USA and the University of London. Based on the analysis of the total number of citations, centrality, and production, the results show that the most influential journals are PLoS One and Cochrane Database Syst Rev. Keyword co-occurrence analysis and highly cited study analysis are mainly used to analyze research hotspots in the field of music therapy, while the keyword burst analysis is employed to explore frontiers and potential developmental trends. Hot keywords include "interventions", "anxiety" and "randomized controlled trial". The burst keywords include "validity", "preterm infants", and "mild cognitive impairment". In the ranking of highly cited study, the top ranked studies are "Music-based interventions in neurological rehabilitation" and "Music interventions for improving psychological and physical outcomes in cancer patients".
    Conclusion: In the past decade, the research focus in music therapy was the effect of music therapy on neurological diseases and the improvement of psychological symptoms such as pain and anxiety. The neurophysiological mechanisms that bring about these therapeutic effects need to be future researched.

       INTRODUCTION: The present study aimed to identify the 100 most-cited articles concerning Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART) through a bibliometric analysis.
    METHODS: The search was conducted in the Web of Science database in December 2023. Scopus and Google Scholar were used to compare the number of citations. The following data were extracted from the articles: title, authors, number of citations, access type, institution, country, continent, year of publication, journal, keywords, study design, and theme. Collaborative networks were generated using the VOSviewer software. Google Trends was used to investigate the global popularity of "atraumatic restorative treatment" research.
    RESULTS: The 100 selected articles, published between 1996 and 2019, were cited 5,092 times, ranging from 21 to 239 citations. Caries Research (12%) and Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology (12%) published the highest number of articles. Clinical study (52%) was the most prevalent study design. The main theme addressed was restoration longevity (43%). Conventional high-viscosity glass ionomer was the most used restorative material (69%). The country with the highest number of articles was the Netherlands (33%) and Europe was the continent with most publications (38%). The Rabboud University of Nijmegen had the highest number of articles (25%). Frencken JE was the most prominent author (38%). The most common keyword was "atraumatic restorative treatment" (n=60). According to Google Trends, Tanzania was the country that searched the most about ART.
    CONCLUSION: The 100 most cited articles on ART were mainly composed of clinical studies focusing on the longevity of restorations and originated in Europe.

       Objectives: To describe the current trends and key themes that are shaping the literature surrounding papillary thyroid carcinoma.
    Methods: The Thomson Reuters Web of Science citation database was used to identify manuscripts relevant to papillary thyroid carcinoma. These were then subdivided into title, author, journal, publication date, theme, and manuscript types. Themes were then identified.
    Results: A total of 1506 manuscripts were returned. The mean citation number was 163 (range 885-74), with the highest citation rate of 73.5. The highest impact factor was JAMA (impact factor of 56.27). 85% were original research, 10% review articles, and 5% were guidelines. The highest number of manuscripts were published in South Korea (21%).
    Conclusions: This bibliometric analysis describes the most influential papers published in the topic of papillary thyroid carcinoma. Historic key themes have been endocrinology and metabolism, followed by surgical management and oncology (subdivided into surgery, pathology, radiology and public health/epidemiology). South Korea leads the world with the largest number of publications in this field; with an incidence rate of papillary thyroid carcinoma that is significantly higher than most parts of the world. Despite concerns with overdiagnosis, a collaborative radiological team skilled in ultrasonography of the neck appears to be of great value to the workup of thyroid cancers.

      This study aims to provide an overview of the global research trends in the detection and diagnosis of dental caries in the past 20 years. A literature search was conducted in the Scopus Database to retrieve studies on the diagnostic approaches for dental caries published from January 2003 to December 2023. The diagnostic approaches in the retrieved studies were examined and the studies were categorized according to the diagnostic approaches investigated. Bibliometric data including journals, countries, affiliations, authors, and numbers of citations of the publications were summarised. The publications' keyword co-occurrence was analysed using VOSviewer. This bibliometric analysis included 1879 publications investigating seven categories of caries diagnostic approaches, including visual and/or tactile (n = 459; 19%), radiation-based (n = 662; 27%), light-based (n = 771; 32%), ultrasound-based (n = 28; 1%), electric-based (n = 51; 2%), molecular-based (n = 196; 8%) diagnostic approaches, as well as AI-based diagnostic interpretation aids (n = 265; 11%). An increase in the annual number of publications on caries diagnostic approaches was observed in the past 20 years. Caries Research (n = 103) presented the highest number of publications on caries diagnostic approaches. The country with the highest number of publications was the United States (n = 1092). The University of São Paulo was the institution that published the highest number of articles (n = 195). The publication with the highest citation has been cited 932 times. VOS viewer revealed that the most frequently occurring keywords were 'Deep Learning', 'Artificial Intelligence', 'Laser Fluorescence' and 'Radiography'. This bibliometric analysis highlighted an emerging global research trend in the detection and diagnosis approaches for dental caries in the past 20 years. An evident increase in publications on molecular-based caries diagnostic approaches and AI-based diagnostic interpretation aids was perceived over the last 5 years.

       BACKGROUND: Prolonged orthodontic treatment duration has long been a concern for orthodontists and patients, leading to a surge in publications on accelerated orthodontic tooth movement (OTM). This study aims to investigate the knowledge landscape, hotspots, and research trends in acceleration of OTM using bibliometric and visual analyses.
    METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted in the Web of Science (WOS) Core Collection to identify relevant publications related to acceleration of OTM. R Biblioshiny, VOS viewer, and a bibliometric online analysis platform were used to conduct the bibliometric and visualization analysis. Curve fitting and correlation analysis were performed to examine the correlation global and country economics and publication trends, and to predict publication numbers.
    RESULTS: A total of 647 articles on accelerated OTM were included in the analysis, with clinical and non-clinical publications accounting for 43.59% and 31.22%, respectively. The annual publication numbers exhibited an upward trend, correlating positively with both global gross domestic product (GDP) (r = 0.915, P < .001) and the GDP of individual countries/regions (r = 0.976, P < .001). China produced the most documents (94), while the USA led in citation count (2758) and international collaborations. Wilcko WM was the top-cited author, with eight of the top 10 authors from the USA and the remainder from Asia. Keywords such as 'tooth movement', 'corticotomy', 'piezocision' and 'low-level laser therapy' were the most prominent themes, while topics like 'micro-osteoperforation', 'plasma', 'gingival crevicular fluid' and 'pain' have become recent research hotspots and frontiers.
    CONCLUSIONS: This study provides a comprehensive overview of the research on accelerated OTM, highlighting hotspots and frontiers, fostering collaboration among authors and countries/regions, and contributing to future research endeavours.

      The project aimed to conduct an up-to-date and comprehensive bibliometric analysis of robotic surgery to provide a detailed and holistic understanding of the field. Three strategies were employed in the data analysis i.e. search terms were explored in (A) the title, abstract, and keywords and (B) only in the title of the documents. In 3rd part we analyzed the top 100 most cited papers. Vosviewer and R Studio were utilized for detailed bibliometric and network analyses. Strategy one identified 38,469 publications, and strategy two identified 6451 publications from 2001 to 2023. The top authors, universities, countries, sponsors, and sources based on the number of publications were identified for both strategies. The top 100 most cited papers were analyzed, providing the annual number of publications and various citation metrics. Top authors (by number of publications, total citations, h-index, g-index, and m-index), universities, and countries within these highly cited papers, along with their co-authorship networks and dynamics, were examined. Co-words analysis of the top 100 most cited papers revealed the primary focus of these documents across 25 categories. This comprehensive bibliometric analysis of robotic surgery highlighted significant contributions and collaborations in the field, emphasizing the importance of global and collaborative efforts in advancing robotic surgery research.

       Background: High tibial osteotomy (HTO) is a well-established surgical procedure employed to treat medial compartment knee osteoarthritis by modifying the mechanical axis of the lower limb, thereby reducing the load on the affected joint. It has gained increased attention in recent years, resulting in numerous research advancements in this field.
    Methods: The top 100 most-cited papers on HTO, published between 1970 and 2023, were identified by searching the Web of Science Core Collection database. Data, including the title, author, keywords, journal, publication year, country, and institution, were extracted. Subsequently, a bibliometric analysis was performed.
    Results: The 100 papers collectively garnered a total of 15 833 citations, with a median of 122 and an average of 158.33 citations per article. Since the onset of the 21st century, there has been a significant increase in the number of publications and citations. Lobenhoffer authored the most published papers. The majority of papers originated from the USA. Hannover Medical School produced the most papers. Analysis of keywords in the articles revealed several research hotspots, including open-wedge osteotomy, biomechanical study, tibial slope, patellar height, Puddu plate, TomoFix plate, stability, complications, and accuracy.
    Conclusion: This study offers bibliometric insights into HTO, underscoring that the USA is a prominent leader in this field. HTO has garnered increasing attention since the onset of the 21st century and is expected to remain a significant research area in the future. Concurrently, the authors advise focusing on potential research hotspots, such as the navigation system, to augment the accuracy of the correction.

       Background: Recent years have witnessed a rapid growth in research on accidental falls in patients with Parkinson's Disease (PD). However, a comprehensive and systematic bibliometric analysis is still lacking. This study aims to systematically analyze the current status and development trends of research related to accidental falls in patients with PD using bibliometric methods.
    Methods: We retrieved literature related to accidental falls in patients with PD published between January 1, 2003, and December 31, 2023, from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. Statistical analysis and knowledge mapping of the literature were conducted using VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and Microsoft Excel software.
    Results: A total of 3,195 publications related to accidental falls in patients with PD were retrieved. These articles were authored by 13,202 researchers from 3,834 institutions across 87 countries and published in 200 academic journals. Over the past 20 years, the number of published articles and citations has increased annually. The United States and the United Kingdom have the highest number of publications in this field, while Harvard University and Tel Aviv University are the most influential institutions. The Parkinsonism & Related Disorders journal published the highest number of articles, while the Movement Disorders journal had the highest number of citations. The most prolific author is Bloem, Bastiaan R, while the most cited author is Hausdorff, Jeffrey. The main research areas of these publications are Neurosciences, Biomedical, Electrical & Electronic, and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. Currently, high-frequency keywords related to accidental falls in patients with PD include risk factors, clinical manifestations, and interventions. Prediction and prevention of accidental falls in such patients is a research topic with significant potential and is currently a major focus of research.
    Conclusion: This study used bibliometric and knowledge mapping analysis to reveal the current research status and hotspots in the field of accidental falls in patients with PD. It also points out directions for future research. This study can provide theoretical support and practical guidance for scholars to further conduct related research.

       PURPOSE: This study aims to analyze the literature on periocular basal cell carcinoma, identify research trends, and offer insights into future research areas in this field to assist clinicians and researchers.
    METHODS: 903 publications on periocular basal cell carcinoma were collected from the Web of Science Core Collection database. We assessed the contributions from various countries, institutions, journals, and authors, and performed network analysis using Excel, VOSviewer, and R Studio to represent the prominent areas of research visually.
    RESULTS: The country with the highest number of publications and citations in this study was the United States of America, with 250 publications, 5917 citations, and the highest H-index of 44. Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is the leading journal. The UTMD Anderson Cancer Center had the highest number of publications, accounting for 43, or 4.76% of the total. Selva D from the University of Adelaide, Australia, is the top author with 26 publications, and 751 citations. Targeted therapy for PBCC-related pathways has been a hot topic in recent years.
    CONCLUSIONS: This study using bibliometrics seeks to explore the patterns and focal points of research and analyzes publication patterns, key research areas, influential authors, and prominent journals in periocular basal cell carcinoma during the last 2 decades.

       INTRODUCTION: The sharing of research findings through communications at congresses and publications is essential for the dissemination of scientific knowledge. The aim was to determine the percentage of communications presented the biennial meetings of the Sociedad Española de Neonatología (SENeo, Spanish Society of Neonatology) eventually published as full-text articles in indexed peer-reviewed journals and their bibliometric characteristics.
    MATERIAL AND METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study by reviewing the abstracts from the oral communications (OCs) in the 2017, 2019 and 2021 SENeo congresses. Then we searched for the authors in the MEDLINE and Scopus databases. We collected data on the authors, type of OC and bibliometric characteristics.
    RESULTS: The sample included 525 OCs, and we found a publication rate of 40.38% corresponding to 212 publications, 78.8% of them in international journals. The most frequent journal of publication was Anales de Pediatría. The median and interquartile range values for the impact factor, quartile and number of citations were 2.86 (1.96-3.98), 2 (1-3) and 3 (0-7), respectively, with a remarkable increase in the impact factor for the most recent congresses. The median time elapsed to publication was 10 months (IQR, 1-23). The proportion published was higher for multicentre studies and those with a respiratory topic.
    CONCLUSIONS: The frequency of publication for OCs submitted to SENeo congresses was similar to the frequency of publication for other paediatric congresses, with an impact factor that was above the mean of the congresses under study. The proportion of publication was higher for studies with a multicentre design or a respiratory topic.

       Objectives: Schizophrenia is an organic disease and a severe mental disorder with a relatively high risk of relapse. The increasing rate of schizophrenia relapse has motivated researchers and academics to continue to innovate and develop interventions for schizophrenia relapse prevention. This bibliometric study aims to analyze the publication trend of schizophrenia relapse prevention based on publications from 1973 to 2023, analyze the contribution of international collaboration of different journals, highlight the most influential authors and articles, and predict the future development of this topic.
    Methods: The study included 683 articles obtained from the Scopus database, Vosviewers software and Tableau analysis.
    Results: We found that the use of schizophrenia relapse prevention has increased significantly in the last three decades, but with fluctuations and still increasing within five years (25-40 publications). This indicates that this topic is still of interest. In terms of the largest contributions, the United States produced the highest number of publications on related topics, with John M. Kane writing the most articles, while Stefan Leucht had the highest H-index. Frequently used keywords included "relapse AND schizophrenia" AND "prevention".
    Conclusions: These results serve as an important reference for determining the current state of the art and future research directions.

       Background: The present study aimed to identify and analyze the 100 top-cited articles published in oral radiology.
    Material and Methods: Web of Science was used to conduct a comprehensive search from inception until 22 November 2023 in dental radiology. Basic information of the 100 top-cited articles was recorded. Biblioshiny and VOSviewer tools were employed for conducting thematic map and author keyword, title, and abstract terms analysis to elucidate the research trends and hotspots. Elsevier Scopus database was also used for citation comparisons.
    Results: The citation count for the 101 most-cited articles ranged from 105-587. Most of them were original research studies with observational design conducted in diagnosis, dose, geometric measurements, and image analysis topics. Cone beam computed tomography was the most studied radiologic technique as author keyword co-occurrence analysis revealed and appeared as a basic theme for the transdisciplinary research field's development. While making infant steps, artificial intelligence was adequately represented in top cited list, as it received increasing citation numbers in very few years, concentrating the highest citation densities.
    Conclusions: Bibliometric analysis of the most affecting publications in oral radiology depicts the science's evolution and enhances the understanding of scientific research progress. Key words:Bibliometrics, citation analysis, oral radiology, top-cited.

      The scholarly academic productivity and publication activities of anesthesia departments within the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are currently unknown. We undertook a bibliometric study to quantify UAE anesthetists' contributions to various categories of articles in peer-reviewed high-impact anesthesia journals. Using a PubMed-based analysis, we studied the contribution of United Arab Emirates (UAE) anesthetists towards publications in eight high-impact anesthesia journals (represented in the database for 2023 from Journal Citation Reports®, Thomson Scientific) and four anesthesia subspecialty journals over five years ranging from 2019 to 2023. Additionally, we searched each journal's website for publications related to the individual region of the UAE. We included all categories of articles except correspondences (not free-standing), meeting abstracts, and book reviews. We analyzed the following subsets comprehensively: region of the UAE, author's affiliation to the anesthesia department, publication focus, first authorship, and corresponding author status. UAE anesthetists were involved in 31 publications during the five-year study period. Over 25% of publications originated from the UAE; others were international collaborations. Overall, the anesthesia publication rate in the UAE was less than one per year for one million inhabitants. Only five hospitals contributed more than one publication. The Abu Dhabi Emirate's two main cities (Abu Dhabi and Al Ain) contributed 71% of publications. The UAE anesthetists' primary publication focus was regional anesthesia, medication error, and neurosurgical anesthesia in either the review or original articles category. Our study reveals that the current academic publication output from the anesthesia departments in the UAE is minimal. Our analysis suggests the need for increased scholarly activity, which could significantly advance anesthesia research and practice in the UAE.

      Aim: We conducted a bibliometric analysis to quantitatively study the development pathway, research hotspots and evolutionary trends of nano-drug delivery systems (NDDS) in treating urological tumors.Materials & methods: We used the Web of Science Core Collection to retrieve the literature related to NDDS in the urological tumors up to November 1, 2023. Bibliometric analysis and visualization were conducted using CiteSpace, VOSviewer and R-Bibliometrix. The major aspects of analysis included contributions from different countries/regions, authors' contributions, keywords identification, citation frequencies and overall research trends.Results: We included 3,220 articles. The analysis of annual publication trends revealed significant growth in this field since 2010, which has continued to the present day. The United States and China have far exceeded other countries/regions in the publication volume of papers in this field. The progression of the shell structure of NDDS in the urinary system has gradually transitioned from non-biological materials to biocompatible materials and ultimately to completely biocompatible materials. Mucoadhesive NDDS for intravesical drug delivery is a hotspot and a potential research material for bladder cancer.Conclusion: The field of NDDS in urological tumors has emerged as a research hotspot. Future research should focus on synergistic effects of NDDS with other treatment modalities.

      Objectives: To identify the cooperation of authors, countries, institutions and explore the hot spots regarding research of renal cell carcinoma with venous tumor thrombus. Methods: Relevant articles were obtained from the Web of Science Core database (WoSC) from 1999 to 2024. CiteSpace was used to perform the analysis and visualization of scientific productivity and emerging trends. Network maps were generated to evaluate the collaborations between different authors, countries, institutions, and keywords. Results: A total of 2180 related articles were identified. We observed an increased enthusiasm in related fields during the past two decades. The USA dominated the field in all countries, and the University of Miami was the core institution. Ciancio G might have a significant influence with more publications and co-citations. Current research hotspots in this field mainly included thrombectomy, tyrosine kinase inhibitors, immune checkpoint inhibitors, vena cava inferior, and microvascular invasion. Thrombectomy complications, thrombectomy survival outcome, and preoperative neoadjuvant immunotherapy represented the frontiers of research in this field, undergoing an explosive phase. Conclusion: This is the first bibliometric study that comprehensively visualize the research trends and status of RCC with VTT. We hope that this work will provide new ideas for advancing the scientific research and clinical application.

       BACKGROUND: There are numerous publications on cancer vocational rehabilitation, visual techniques can help medical researchers and social workers be more familiar with the state of this field.
    OBJECTIVE: To summarize cancer vocational rehabilitation research, we applied visualized and bibliometric analysis to enable medical workers and social workers to identify evolving patterns of knowledge among articles and research trends, understand the current research status of vocational rehabilitation of cancer, and carry out further research on hot topics.
    METHODS: Based on a review of 933 papers on cancer vocational rehabilitation published in the Web of Science Core Collection, this study used Citespace software to systematically and objectively describe cancer vocational rehabilitation.
    RESULTS: Since 2003, the field of cancer vocational rehabilitation began to sprout. The most published and most cited country, institution, author and cited journal were the United States, University of Amsterdam, Angela G. E. M. de Boer, and Psycho-Oncology, respectively. The three most frequently cited keywords were breast cancer, quality of life and cancer survivor. The three keywords with the largest spike in citations were cohort, absence and symptom. Conducting randomized controlled trials or prospective cohort studies to help cancer survivors return to work, and using qualitative methods to understand the vocational rehabilitation experiences or perceptions of cancer survivors or medical staff are hotspots in this field.
    CONCLUSIONS: Cancer vocational rehabilitation has attracted the attention of researchers all over the world. Future studies may focus on other cancer types and explore more high quality interventions.

      Urinary incontinence (UI) is prevalent and imposes significant social and economic burdens. This study reviews the literature on UI, assesses the current research status, and projects future trends. To visualize and analyze UI-related research, summarize and generalize the knowledge framework of the global UI field, and explore the current state of research and emerging trends, we conducted a comprehensive search of UI-related studies from 2014 to 2024 using the Web of Science Core Collection. Utilizing VOSviewer software, we mapped the scientific landscape and performed visual analytics on collaborative and co-citation networks, keyword co-occurrences, emergent clusters, and timeline mapping to elucidate the research dynamics. A total of 4326 publications were retrieved for further analysis. The United States ranked first in terms of the total number of publications, number of citations, and publication H-index. In terms of institutions, the University of California System had the most total citations and the highest H-index. Neurology and Urodynamics had the most articles published, the highest citation frequency, and the highest H-index. The author with the most citations and the highest average number of citations per article is Abrams P. The author with the highest H-index is Peyronnet B. Based on the keyword analysis, the articles were categorized into several main directions: epidemiological studies, diagnostic studies, treatment studies, female UI studies, and male UI studies. Epidemiology, treatment, and male UI are expected to continue as hot topics. This study demonstrates that UI research is more advanced in Europe and North America and that Neurourology and Urodynamics is the most influential journal in the field. In addition, epidemiology, treatment, and male UI will continue to be prominent topics. Our study contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of the current state of UI research and provides insights into future research directions in the field.

       PURPOSE: International English language publication activities in orthopaedic surgery comparing the years 2008/09 to 2018/19 were analyzed.
    METHODS: 20 international journals listed on PubMed were examined. The impact factor (IF) for each journal was determined using the InCites Journal Citation Report.
    RESULTS: 9,205 publications in 2008/09 and 15,549 in 2018/19 with 21,435 cumulative IF (CIF) in 2008/09 and 50,552 in 2018/19 were registered. Most publications consisted of narrative reviews (42.0%), followed by clinical studies (22.0%), experimental investigations (16.9%), randomized controlled trials (6.0%), and meta-analyses (5.6%). The highest increase in publications was observed for narrative reviews from 33.5% in 2008/09 to 41.1% in 2018/19. The USA had the highest number of publications (2,981 and 4,796), followed by UK (806 and 879) and Germany (606 and 922) in 2008/09 and 2018/19, resp. Per 1 Mio inhabitants, Switzerland (13.6 and 28.4), Sweden (10.9 and 18.1), the Netherlands (9.6 and 15.4), and Denmark (9.0 and 21.8) were the most productive countries in 2008/09 and 2018/19, resp.
    CONCLUSIONS: International publishing activity in orthopaedic surgery has increased substantially over the last 10 years. The quality of the published articles has not increased in the same way, as evidenced by the disproportionate rise in narrative reviews. Over the entire period, the US were the leader with respect to number of publications and CIF. In terms of population, however, smaller countries such as Switzerland and Sweden were much more active.

The annual scientific production revealed a significant increase in publications over the past two decades, reflecting growing interest in this field. Analysis of the most relevant authors and sources highlighted key contributors and influential journals. Trend topics demonstrated a shift from early focus areas like hyperthermia and laser-induced thermotherapy to recent advancements involving nanoparticles and combination therapies. The thematic map provided insights into core, emerging, and niche areas within the research landscape. A historiograph traced the chronological development of significant publications, while the co-occurrence of keywords and bibliographic coupling of documents identified major themes and interconnections in the literature. International collaborations were mapped, showing the global nature of thermotherapy research. The study identified several research gaps, including the need for large-scale clinical trials, interdisciplinary approaches, and standardized treatment protocols. Practical implications suggest focusing on targeted delivery systems, expanding cancer research, and fostering collaborative projects to advance the field.

      Extensive research has made significant progress in exploring the potential application of extracellular vesicles (EV) in the diagnosis and treatment of osteoarthritis (OA). However, there is current a lack of study on bibliometrics. In this study, we completed a novel bibliometric analysis of EV research in OA over the past two decades. Specifically, we identified a total of 354 relevant publications obtained between January 1, 2003 and December 31, 2022. We also provided a description of the distribution information regarding the countries or regions of publication, institutions involved, journals, authors, citations, and keywords. The primary research focuses encompassed the role of extracellular vesicles in the diagnosis of OA, delivery of active ingredients, treatment strategies, and cartilage repair. These findings highlight the latest research frontiers and emerging areas, providing valuable insights for further investigations on the application of extracellular vesicles in the context of osteoarthritis.

       Objectives: The aim of this research is to discuss the research status, hotspots, frontiers, and development trends in the field of small bowel adenocarcinoma based on bibliometrics and visual analysis by CiteSpace software.
    Methods: The relevant research articles on SBA from 1923 to 2023 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. CiteSpace software was used to form a visual knowledge map and conduct analysis for the countries/regions, journals, authors, keywords, clusters, research hotspots and frontiers of the included articles.
    Results: There were 921 articles included, and the number of articles published during 1923-2023 is increasing. The country with the highest number of articles published was the United States (443, 38.76%), followed by Japan (84, 9.12%) and France (72, 7.82%). The author with the highest number of publications is Ansell, Overman MJ (33, 3.58%), and the author with the highest co-citation frequency is Overman MJ (218). Journal of Clinical Oncology is the journal with the highest publication frequency. The top five cluster groups were "chemotherapy", "inflammatory bowel disease", "celiac disease", "tumor" and "small intestine". The related disease, chemotherapy drugs, and treatment regimens of SBA form the main research fields, and prognosis and diagnosis are the research hotspots and trends.
    Conclusion: The global research field in SBA has expanded in the past 100 years. The prognosis and new diagnosis of SBA are hotspots in this field and require further study in the future.

       INTRODUCTION: While bibliometric ranking systems have been designed to use citations, funding, and alumni productivity, there is a need for a simple metric that objectively evaluates the work of a group or organization. The present study describes a bibliometric tool, the Departmental Scholarly Index (DSI), for this purpose.
    METHODS: Publications from academic plastic surgery programs in qualifying states of the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons released in 2022 were collected via PubMed affiliation search. Publications were recorded in a running list alongside the title and 2022 impact factor of their respective journals. The impact factors were averaged by summing the impact factors and dividing by the number of articles to obtain a raw average. Any publication in a journal with an impact factor greater than five multiples of the raw average was removed as an outlier. The remaining impact factors were then summed and give the final numerical value representing the DSI.
    RESULTS: A total of 464 articles published in 139 individual journals were returned from PubMed between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2022, for the 22 constituent departments. Calculated Spearman's rank coefficients comparing the DSI ranking with both the Doximity and Persad-Paisley rankings yielded values of 0.66 (P < 0.01) and 0.62 (P < 0.01), respectively. Overall, the DSI rankings largely agree with either the Persad-Paisley or Doximity rankings with notable differences seen in the rankings of Mayo Florida and the University of Alabama. A clear academic ranking of Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons programs was generated from these data.
    CONCLUSIONS: The DSI represents a novel and simple approach to applying objective value to research with the advantage of using data bound to the most recent publication productivity.

      Retinoic acid is an active metabolite with significant physiological functions in human development, immunity, vision, and skin health. In recent years, research on retinoic acid in the field of kidney disorders has been increasing gradually. Yet, there is a lack of systematic bibliometric analysis of retinoic acid research in the kidney domain. This study included 1,368 articles published between 1998 and 2023 on treating kidney diseases with retinoic acid. Using the bibliometric analysis software VOSviewer and CiteSpace, we analyzed data on publication trends, contributing countries and institutions, journals and cocited journals, authors and cocited authors, cocited references, research hotspots, and frontiers. On the basis of the results of the bibliometric analysis, we identified the research efforts and their developmental trends, providing the groundwork for future research on retinoic acid.

       Background: Electroencephalography (EEG) has been rapidly developed and is widely used in both clinical and scientific fields. Original studies on non-invasive EEG in the elderly have been of great importance owing to the global aging trend. The present study aimed to provide a bibliometric overview on current status and trends in this research field.
    Methods: We searched the Web of Science Core Collection for articles published during 2014 and 2023. Synonyms for EEG and the elderly were combined as a retrieval strategy. Invasive EEG and secondary studies were excluded. Online filters and manual reviews were applied to select eligible articles. Basic bibliometric parameters were analyzed and visualized using VOSviewer and Excel software.
    Results: A total of 1656 publications were filtered, and 655 of which were finally included. In general, publication counts have steadily increased over the last 10 years. A sharp rise in publications occurred in 2021, and then remained at a high level. Authors and institutions from high-income countries/regions such as the United States of America (USA), China, and Germany were more productive and made significant contributions. Journals specialized in neuroscience, such as Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience, Neurobiology of Aging, and Clinical Neurophysiology, were popular among authors. Articles on aging, Alzheimer's disease (AD), mild cognitive impairment (MCI), dementia, memory, event-related potentials, attention, and the brain were more likely to use EEG. The newer topics included anesthesia, postoperative delirium (POD), confusion assessment method, connectivity, validation, and power.
    Conclusion: This bibliometric study provides fundamental knowledge on the current status and hot spots of the original studies on EEG in elderly, which is beneficial to researchers in paving future investigations of neuroscience and neural diseases.

       Introduction: Kaempferol, a flavonoid found in numerous foods and medicinal plants, offers a range of health benefits such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiviral, anticancer, cardioprotective, and neuroprotective effects.
    Methods: Herein, a bibliometric and visual analysis of global publications on kaempferol was performed to map the evolution of frontiers and hotspots in the field. Using the search string TS = kaempferol, bibliometric data for this analysis was extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection database and analyzed using the VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and Scimago Graphica software.
    Results: As a result, by February 26, 2024, 11,214 publications were identified, comprising articles (n = 10,746, 96%) and review articles (n = 468, 4%). Globally, the annual number of kaempferol publications surpassed 100 per year since 2000, exceeded 500 per year since 2018, and further crossed the threshold of 1,000 per year starting in 2022. The major contributing countries were China, the United States of America, and India, while the top three institutes of the citations of kaempferol were the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Consejo Superio de Investigaciones Cientficas, and Uniersidade do Porto. These publications were mainly published in agricultural and food chemistry journals, food chemistry, and phytochemistry.
    Discussion: The keywords frequently mentioned include phenolic compounds, antioxidant activity, flavonoids, NF-kappa B, inflammation, bioactive compounds, etc. Anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation, and anti-cancer have consistently been the focus of kaempferol research, while cardiovascular protection, neuroprotection, antiviral, and anti-bacterial effects have emerged as recent highlights. The field of kaempferol research is thriving.

      In recent years, live streaming commerce (LSC) has become a popular research topic. However, current studies on LSC are relatively insufficient, and analyses have generally focused on its specific aspects, lacking a comprehensive and systematic perspective. Hence, this study utilises CiteSpace to undertake a visual bibliometric analysis aimed at delineating the knowledge framework and evolution of LSC and indicates future research directions to provide a comprehensive picture of the development of this dynamic field over the past six years. The results show that LSC is a thriving subject with several growing annual publications. Additionally, a strong collaboration exists between institutions and authors. Further, 'influence', 'consumer behaviour' and 'consumer purchase intention' are more popular in this domain and have assumed a leading position in recent research. Moreover, novel research trajectories have emerged, indicating interdisciplinary integration within the field. This study is innovative as it combines live streaming with commerce, analyses six years of literature, and builds an accurate and comprehensive knowledge framework within this domain. By identifying current gaps, this study contributes to the literature by addressing prior study limitations, enriching the knowledge base, providing crucial research directions for future exploration, and inspiring scholars to efficiently find research topics.

       OBJECTIVE: This study investigates the global research landscape of prehabilitation, identifying current trends, dominant disciplines, collaborative networks, and prominent articles in the field.
    DESIGN: For our analysis, we employed the published prehabilitation literature indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection database, spanning from 2002 to 2022. Additionally, we utilized CiteSpace (version 6.2; Drexel University), a widely used information visualization software to perform bibliometric analysis.
    RESULTS: Analyzing 553 research articles, we observe a consistent upward trend in prehabilitation publication and citation activity. Interdisciplinary co-occurrence analysis highlights strong connections with fields such as surgery, rehabilitation, oncology, sports sciences, orthopedics, gastroenterology, and hepatology. Initially centered around postoperative outcomes in major abdominal surgeries, particularly for colorectal, pancreatic, and prostate cancers, prehabilitation research expanded to include thoracic surgeries, focusing on conditions like lung cancer and aortic valve replacement. Preoperative exercise remains a core area, with increasing interest in multimodal prehabilitation and its effectiveness based on patient group characteristics. North America and Western Europe emerge as primary contributors to prehabilitation research.
    CONCLUSION: Current research concentrates on tailoring prehabilitation programs for specific groups, and broadening their geographical scope would enhance the studies, contributing valuable insights for medical practitioners shaping future research efforts.

       Background: Transcutaneous Vagal Nerve Stimulation (tVNS) has been used as a promising noninvasive neuromodulation technique for the treatment of various systems.The aim of this study was to analyze the research hotspots and future directions of tVNS in the 21st century by using bibliometric methods.
    Methods: The study object was the literature related to tVNS from the Web of Science database from 2000 to May 2024. In order to measure and analyze the number of literature issuance, institutions, authors, countries, keywords, co-citations, and journals of publication, we used VOSviewer, Citespace, Bibliometrix R-package, and Scimago Graphica software. A narrative review of the current research content of tVNS was conducted to gain a better understanding of the current state of the field.
    Results: A total of 569 papers were included in the study. The results show that from 2000 to 2024, the number of publications shows an increasing trend year by year, involving a total of 326 research institutions. The United States, China, and Germany are the major research centers. The study identified 399 keywords, which roughly formed 11 natural clusters, revealing that the current hotspots of related research are mainly reflected in 3 areas: intervention efficacy on nervous system diseases, mechanism of action of tVNS, and stimulation mode of tVNS. The top 10 most cited references focus on research into the mechanism of action of tVNS.
    Conclusion: The efficacy and safety of tVNS have been confirmed in previous studies, but a standardized tVNS treatment protocol has not yet been developed, and most clinical studies have small sample sizes and lack multicenter and multidisciplinary collaboration. Currently, tVNS is used in the treatment of neurological diseases, psychiatric diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and some autoimmune diseases. It is expected that future research in this field will continue to focus on the application of tVNS in central nervous system diseases and the exploration of related mechanisms, and at the same time, with the rise of non-invasive neuromodulation technology, the application of tVNS in other diseases also has great potential for development.

      Manganese (Mn) pollution poses a serious threat to the health of animals, plants, and humans. The microbial-mediated Mn(II) removal method has received widespread attention because of its rapid growth, high efficiency, and economy. Mn(II)-oxidizing bacteria can oxidize toxic soluble Mn(II) into non-toxic Mn(III/IV) oxides, which can further participate in the transformation of other heavy metals and organic pollutants, playing a crucial role in environmental remediation. This study aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis of research papers on bacterial Mn(II) oxidation using CiteSpace, and to explore the research hotspots and developmental trends within this field between 2008 and 2023. A series of visualized knowledge map analyses were conducted with 469 screened SCI research papers regarding annual publication quantity, author groups and their countries and regions, journal categories, publishing institutions, and keywords. China, the USA, and Japan published the most significant number of research papers on the research of bacterial Mn(II) oxidation. Research hotspots of bacterial Mn(II) oxidation mainly focused on the species and distributions of Mn(II)-oxidizing bacteria, the influencing factors of Mn(II) oxidation, the mechanisms of Mn(II) oxidation, and their applications in environment. This bibliometric analysis provides a comprehensive visualized knowledge map to quickly understand the current advancements, research hotspots, and academic frontiers in bacterial Mn(II) oxidation.

       Introduction: Oxidative stress has been identified as a major contributor to the pathogenesis of DR, and many diagnostic and therapeutic strategies have been developed to target oxidative stress. Our aim was to understand the contribution of the country of origin of the publication, the institution, the authors, and the collaborative relationship between them.
    Methods: We performed a bibliometric analysis to summarize and explore the research hotspots and trends of oxidative stress in the DR.
    Results: We observe an upward trend in the number of posts on related topics from year to year. Expanding on this, Queens University Belfast is the most influential research institution. Current research hotspots and trends focus on the mechanism of autophagy and NLRP3 inflammasome's role in oxidative stress in DR.
    Discussion: We conducted a multi-dimensional analysis of the research status of oxidative stress in diabetic retinopathy through bibliometric analysis, and proposed possible future research trends and hotspots.

       Background: As one of several refractive surgeries, Implant Collamer Lens (ICL) surgery offers stable biocompatibility and consistent, high-quality visual outcomes. ICL has become an effective complement to corneal refractive surgery, gradually becoming one of the mainstream methods for correcting refractive errors. This study employs bibliometric methods to analyze research on ICL surgery to understand the progress, hotspots, and potential future trends in this field.
    Methods: This study performed a bibliometric analysis of all ICL-related articles collected from the Web of Science Core Collection database between January 1st, 1996, and December 31st, 2023. The CiteSpace 6.2.R4 tool, Excel and the Web of Science website were used to analyze data by country, institution, keywords, and clusters of keywords. Additionally, an in-depth interpretation and analysis were conducted on the field's high-impact articles.
    Results: Since the first clinical application report of ICL, there have been a total of 875 studies. The number of papers published annually has shown an overall increasing trend. Studies published from China are the most numerous, accounting for 29.14% (n = 255) of the total. Among the institutions, Fudan University and Kitasato University both have published more than 50 papers, with Kitasato University having the highest H-index of 26. The journals with the top 10 publication volumes are all specialized in ophthalmology. The burst keywords since the introduction of ICL surgery have been "intraocular lens," "refractive surgery," and "cataract surgery." The current burst keywords include "visual quality," "vector analysis," "axial length," etc. The results of keyword clustering included ICL, pIOL, high myopia, axial length, optical quality, refractive surgery, ICL implantation, and pupil size. In the High-impact Articles, it was found that the high-impact articles predominantly focus on the safety, efficacy, and predictability of ICL surgery.
    Conclusion: Research on ICL has grown since its clinical introduction, with the advent of the central hole ICL sparking a surge in recent hotspots, particularly in China. Current hotpots in the field of ICL surgery are "visual quality," "ICL implantation," "vector analysis," "axial length," "evo ICL," "ICL v4c," and "ICL." ICL surgery research trends have evolved from implantation techniques to biological parameters associated with ICL surgery and the benefits of new ICL designs.

       Background: Emergency medicine (EM) is a growing specialty both clinically and academically. Academic EM development can be measured by number of scientific publications. This study aimed to evaluate the academic international cooperation trend of Taiwan emergency departments (EDs) in the past two decades using social network analysis (SNA).
    Methods: The study population were publications with first author affiliated with Taiwan EDs and the study duration was publication year before 2021. The enrolled publications were categorized into two groups: Group one, all authors were affiliated with Taiwan (domestic publications) and Group two, authors were affiliated with Taiwan and other countries (international publications). The primary outcome measurement was the degree centrality of Taiwan before 2021. The secondary outcome measurements included the trend in annual publication number of Group one and Group two, the trend in country number of each year in Group two, the top five countries that collaborate with Taiwan, the difference between the median of citation numbers in Group one and Group two, and the difference between the median of author numbers in Group one and Group two.
    Results: A total 4,363 publications were enrolled, of which 4,046 publications were classified in Group one and 317 publications were in Group two. The annual publication number of both groups increased significantly. The annual country number of collaboration with Taiwan ED publications had also significantly increased. The median of citation number and author number in Group two were both significantly higher than Group one. The top five countries collaborating with Taiwan were the United States, China, Malaysia, Japan, and Australia.
    Conclusions: Taiwan EDs' growing international collaboration in the past two decades indicated a capacity to conduct multi-country research. International collaboration publications obtained higher citations compared to domestic publications. Researchers should enhance international collaborations for academic advancement.

       Background: The application of nanomaterials (NMs) in the treatment of periodontitis and peri-implantitis has shown multifunctional benefits, such as antibacterial properties, immune regulation, and promotion of osteogenesis. However, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis to evaluate global scientific production in this field has not yet been conducted.
    Method: We searched for publications related to nanomaterials in periodontitis and peri-implantitis using the WOSCC database. The contributions from institutions, journals, countries, and authors were assessed using VOSviewer, the bibliometrix R package, and Microsoft Excel 2019.
    Results: We identified 2275 publications from 66 countries/regions focusing on nanomaterials in periodontitis and peri-implantitis, published between 1993 and 2023. China and the USA were the top contributors in this field, with 653 and 221 publications, respectively. Key topics include antibacterial properties, delivery systems, nanoparticles, and regeneration. The research focus has evolved from traditional treatments to advanced applications of multifunctional nanomaterials.
    Conclusion: Significant progress has been made in the application of NMs in periodontitis and peri-implantitis from 1993 to 2023. Future research hotspots will likely focus on multifunctional nanomaterials and those adhering to good manufacturing practices (GMP).

      Breast cancer is the most prevalent form of cancer worldwide. Therefore, improved disease detection has emerged as a focal point in clinical studies. At the forefront of innovation, radiomics has the capability to extract comprehensive insights from medical images, ultimately enhancing the accuracy of diagnostic procedures. There has been rapid growth in the field of radiomics research on breast cancer in the past few years. We explored pertinent research articles in the Web of Science Core Collection database to gain a thorough understanding of breast cancer radiomics. We used CiteSpace to conduct a bibliometric analysis of the annual distribution of different nations, institutions, journals, authors, keywords, and references in the field of breast cancer radiomics. GraphPad Prism software was used to examine and graph yearly and country-specific trends and the proportions of publications. The tools utilized for the visualization of science mapping included CiteSpace and VOSviewer. Of the 891 publications, most were original articles (731, 91.09%) and a few were reviews (160, 8.91%). Most academic research has been published in China and the United States. The study centers predominantly consisted of major academic institutions, such as Fudan University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, with some of their members being prominent figures in the field. Pinker, Katja has published the largest number of research papers. The majority of these studies have been published in medical journals focusing on radiology and oncology in recent years. In the realm of cutting-edge medical research, the top two keywords, magnetic resonance imaging and machine learning stand at the forefront as current areas of intense focus. Breast cancer radiomics is advancing rapidly, presenting numerous opportunities and obstacles. Our study of the literature in this academic area aimed to pinpoint the primary themes addressed in the studies and anticipate prospective avenues for research.

       BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a prevalent chronic inflammatory and highly pruritic skin condition characterized by the infiltration of immune cells, notably eosinophils and mast cells. Mast cells (MCs) critically participate in the complex pathogenesis of AD through multiple pathways and have recently garnered growing attention in research. Despite the abundance of related studies published over the years, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis on this topic remains lacking.
    OBJECTIVE: Our objective was to perform an up-to-date bibliometric analysis of the literature focusing on the relationship between MCs and AD. This analysis would provide valuable insights through a thorough bibliometric review, enabling a clearer understanding of the current research landscape, pinpointing key studies, and detecting emerging trends within this field.
    METHODS: We searched the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database on 15 July 2024. The data retrieval strategy was structured as follows: #1: TS = ("mast cells") OR TS = ("mast cell") OR TS = ("mastocyte"); #2: TS = ("atopic dermatitis") OR TS = ("atopic eczema") Final data: (#1 AND #2). A total of 2272 items published between 2001 and 2024 were included. Several scientometric visualization tools, including VOSviewer, R-bibliometrix, CiteSpace and an online analytical platform, were utilized to conduct text mining and to visualize the bibliometric data, facilitating a comprehensive analysis of research trends and patterns.
    RESULTS: Out of the initial 2272 articles retrieved, 2168 were selected for analysis after applying inclusion and exclusion criteria based on publication type. The findings indicate a steady and substantial exponential growth in the annual number of publications focused on the relationship between over the years. The South Korea (547/2168), USA (465/2168) and Japan (436/2168) were the major contributors within this field, collectively constituting more than half of the total publications. To clarify the underlying mechanisms and role of MCs in the pathogenesis of AD and to make MCs prime targets for therapeutic intervention have garnered the most attention in this field. According to references analysis, the research emphasis has shifted to developing MC-related therapeutics and intervention and regulating the immune system of AD patients through modulating the activity of various immune cells. On the basis of keywords analysis, we outlined the following research frontiers and hotpots in the future: the role of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis; imbalance in the different types of T helper (Th) cells during immune response; skin barrier and barrier dysfunction; improving quality of life; sensory neurons; biological agents and small-molecule drugs. Furthermore, IL-13, IL-4, NFKB1, BCGF-1 and CD4 ranked as the top five genes that have received the most investigative attention in the intersection of MCs and AD.
    CONCLUSION: In a word, this analysis would greatly benefit from a thorough bibliometric review to gain a deeper understanding of the current research landscape, identify pivotal studies and pinpoint emerging trends in the field of MCs and AD. Meanwhile, our findings offered researchers a holistic perspective of ongoing developments, serving as a valuable resource for guiding future research and informing decision-making for both researchers and policymakers in this area.

       BACKGROUND:  While bibliometric analyses are prevalent in the medical field, few have focused on ther endovascular treatment for acute ischemic stroke (AIS).
    OBJECTIVE:  To employ big data analysis to examine the research status, trends, and hotspots in endovascular treatment for AIS.
    METHODS:  We conducted a comprehensive search using the Web of Science (WOS) database to identify relevant articles on the endovascular treatment for AIS from 1980 to the present. We used various tools for data analysis, including an online platform (https://bibliometric.com/app), the Citespace software, the Vosviewer software, and the ArcMap software, version 10.8. A number of bibliometric indicators were collected and analyzed, such as publication date, country where the studies were conducted, institutions to which the authors were affiliated, authors, high-frequency keywords, cooperative relationship etc. RESULTS:  A total of 5,576 articles were retrieved. A substantial increase in the number of articles occurred after 2010. High-frequency keywords included terms such as large vessel occlusion, reperfusion, outcome, and basilar artery occlusion. Among the top 10 most productive authors, Raul G. Nogueira ranked first, with 136 published articles. Among the journals, The New England Journal of Medicine ranked first, with 5,631 citations. The United States has the closest collaborative ties with other nations.
    CONCLUSION:  In the present study, we found that the reports of endovascular treatment for AIS gradually increased after 2010. Among them, Raul G. Nogueira was the most productive author in this field. The New England Journal of Medicine was the most cited, and it had the greatest impact. The Multicenter Randomized Clinical Trial of Endovascular Treatment of Acute Ischemic Stroke in the Netherlands (MR CLEAN) trial study was the most cited, and it was a landmark study. There are many interesting studies on endovascular treatment for AIS, such as ischemic penumbra, collateral circulation, bridging therapy etc.

       INTRODUCTION: Cardiovascular complications of diabetes are a top cause of death in diabetics and often involve immune system problems. Despite numerous studies, there's a shortage of extensive data to advance this field. This study aims to systematically analyze the role of immune dysregulation in these complications using bibliometric methods, to outline the research path and predict future directions.
    METHODS: Published from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2023, 2826 records from the Web of Science Core Collection were analyzed. Collaboration networks, keyword co-occurrences, references, and research hotspots were visualized and analyzed using Microsoft Office Excel 2019, VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and R software.
    RESULTS: The number of research papers and citations on this topic has been increasing from 2014 to 2023, with significant contributions from the United States and China. Studies have focused on the effects of oxidative stress, inflammation, metabolism, gut microbiota, and COVID-19 on diabetic heart problems, highlighting the role of immune dysregulation in these diseases.
    CONCLUSION: This research provides an overview of immune dysregulation in the cardiovascular complications of diabetes, explores potential treatments including immunomodulation, insulin resistance, and the benefits of vitamin D on cardiovascular disease, and helps advance the field.

       Objective: The goal of this study is to explore the research advancements on Post-COVID-19 syndrome, through bibliometric analysis, thus summarizing our current comprehension of the subject and suggesting directions for future research strategies.
    Methods: We acquired literature data from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) and conducted keyword and country analyses utilizing CiteSpace and R-project tools.
    Results: Until November 2, 2022, a total of 3633 publications were cataloged from WoSCC. The key terms commonly associated with Post-COVID-19 syndrome symptoms included: immune response, posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, acute lung injury, mental health, and quality of life. The United States emerged as leading in both producing the most research and fostering international cooperation. It was observed that the output of publications from a country is directly proportional to the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases and deaths therein.
    Conclusion: Utilizing bibliometric analysis, the study highlights the detrimental impact of mental health issues on Post-COVID-19 patients' quality of life, emphasizing the urgency for further research and treatment. The sheer scale of COVID-19 cases underscores this need, while international collaboration emerges as a pivotal tool for advancing our understanding and addressing this challenge.

       Background: Mild cognitive impairment is a heterogeneous syndrome. The heterogeneity of the syndrome and the absence of consensus limited the advancement of MCI. The purpose of our research is to create a visual framework of the last decade, highlight the hotspots of current research, and forecast the most fruitful avenues for future MCI research.
    Methods: We collected all the MCI-related literature published between 1 January 2013, and 24 April 2023, on the "Web of Science." The visual graph was created by the CiteSpace and VOSviewer. The current research hotspots and future research directions are summarized through the analysis of keywords and co-cited literature.
    Results: There are 6,075 articles were included in the final analysis. The number of publications shows an upward trend, especially after 2018. The United States and the University of California System are the most prolific countries and institutions, respectively. Petersen is the author who ranks first in terms of publication volume and influence. Journal of Alzheimer's Disease was the most productive journal. "neuroimaging," "fluid markers," and "predictors" are the focus of current research, and "machine learning," "electroencephalogram," "deep learning," and "blood biomarkers" are potential research directions in the future.
    Conclusion: The cognition of MCI has been continuously evolved and renewed by multiple countries' joint efforts in the past decade. Hotspots for current research are on diagnostic biomarkers, such as fluid markers, neuroimaging, and so on. Future hotspots might be focused on the best prognostic and diagnostic models generated by machine learning and large-scale screening tools such as EEG and blood biomarkers.

       BACKGROUND: Progress has been observed in the pathophysiology of calcium homeostasis, localization studies, and intraoperative adjuncts in parathyroid surgery. The aim of this study is to gain a comprehensive perspective on the research landscape of parathyroid surgery over time.
    METHODS: A search of the Web of Science Core Collection was conducted to identify publications on parathyroid surgery from 1985 to 2024. Keywords were manually curated, and their frequencies were calculated based on the publication year.
    RESULTS: Publications on secondary hyperparathyroidism have decreased in recent years, but those on calcimimetics, tertiary hyperparathyroidism, and parathyroid cancer have increased. Publications related to sestamibi scans have decreased, while research on four-dimensional computed tomography and positron emission tomography has increased. Research on fluorescence and ablation treatment has recently been on the rise. The citation count per publication was positively correlated with the number of contributing institutions.
    CONCLUSION: We provide an overview of contemporary research themes and emerging topics related to parathyroid surgery. The endocrine surgery community could benefit from more inter-institutional partnerships to foster scientific progress.

      The increasing scientific interest in antioxidants and naturally derived compounds as potential remedies for obesity and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has led to extensive research. The objective of this bibliometric analysis is to present an updated perspective on the topic of antioxidants, herbs, phytochemicals, and natural compounds, in the control of obesity and NAFLD, to identify new areas for future research. Publications from the years 2012-2022 were retrieved using the Scopus database. The research trends were analyzed using the Biblioshiny and VOSviewer tools. The field has seen a significant increase in research activity, as indicated by an annual growth rate of 10 % in the number of published manuscripts. China, Korea, and the USA emerged as the most prominent contributors in this specific field, supported by their notable volumes of publications and citations. The density analysis revealed that the most frequently occurring authors' keywords related to herbal species are, in rank order, Camelia sinensis, Momordica charantia, Curcuma longa, Ilex paraguariensis, Panax ginseng, Moringa oleifera, Garcinia cambogia, Garcinia mangostana, Zingiber officinale, and Cinnamomum verum. In the group of antioxidants, phytochemicals, and natural compounds, the top 10 were resveratrol, curcumin, quercetin, vitamin E, alpha-lipoic acid, vitamin C, chlorogenic acid, lycopene, fucoxanthin, and berberine. The co-occurrence analysis unveiled significant themes and potential trends, including a notable interest in the impact of herbal species, antioxidants, phytochemicals, and natural compounds on obesity and NAFLD through the modulation of the gut microbiome. Another recurring theme that arises, is the ongoing investigation of molecular targets that demonstrate anti-adipogenesis properties. The analysis presented in this study provides valuable insights for researchers investigating the efficacy of antioxidants, herbs, phytochemicals, and natural compounds in addressing obesity and NAFLD. Through the use of bibliometric methods, the study offers a comprehensive overview. Furthermore, the findings of this analysis can serve as a foundation for future research in this specific domain.

      Cancer of the thyroid has become the fastest-growing cancer among women in the past several decades. This study is aimed at using scientometric methods to identify research frontiers and development trends in the field of thyroid cancer (TC) research. We used the Scopus database to collect articles and reviews related to TC in November 2022. R software and Bibliometrix software package were used for scientometric analysis. More than 28,000 articles were obtained from Scopus using the defined specific keywords. The United States, France, and England published the most publications. Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism and Cancer were found as the core journals in this field. Morris LGT, Sikora AG, and Davies L authored the most publications. National Cancer Institute, National Cancer Institute at NIH, and the University of Washington contributed the most publications. The most cited evidence was related to the articles of Bray (2018), Sung (2021), and Parkin (2005). Using scientometric analysis, this study mapped and visualized the knowledge landscape in the field of TC. The analysis showed that scientists in the field of TC are working collaboratively to tackle one of the most prevalent cancers in the world. This analysis showed that scientists in the field of TC are working with a scientific framework as a team to tackle one of the most common cancers in the world.

      The landscape of research roles within academic journals often remains uncharted territory, with authorial contributions frequently reduced to linear hierarchies (e.g., professor and assistant professor). The Kano model, traditionally used in customer satisfaction research, offers a nuanced framework for identifying the multifaceted roles of authors in scholarly publications. This study utilizes the Kano model to dissect and categorize the roles of authors in the medicine field. To conform to the hypothesis, China is the research leader while the US is the research collaborator, as reflected in the publications of the journal of Medicine (Baltimore) in the year 2023. We conducted a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of all research articles published in the journal of Medicine (Baltimore) in 2023. The Kano model was applied to classify authors into 5 categories reflective of their research roles: followers, leaders, partners, contributors, and collaborators. Data on author publications and co-authorship networks with multi-author rates (MARs) were analyzed to assign Kano categories based on the authorship positions of first and corresponding authors. Descriptive statistics and network analysis tools were used to interpret the data, including radar plots, geographical maps, and Kano diagrams. The analysis covered 1976 articles, uncovering a complex network of author roles that extends beyond the conventional binary distinction of lead and supporting authors (i.e., leading, and following researchers). A research leader in China and a collaborator in the US were conformed to support the hypothesis, based on their publications (1148 vs 51) and MARs (12.20% vs 19.61%). The Kano classification was visually adapted to classify authors (or entities) into 5 categories. The combined choropleth and geographical network maps were illustrated to identify author roles in research briefly. The Kano model serves as an effective tool for uncovering the diverse contributions of authors in medical research. By moving beyond the lead and follower dichotomy, this study highlights the intricate ecosystem of authorial roles, emphasizing the importance of each in advancing knowledge within the field of medicine. Future application of the Kano model could foster a more collaborative and inclusive recognition of contributions across various disciplines.

      Intraarticular injection of osteoarthritis knee is one of the treatment options for pain management and delays the need for knee surgery. Various materials have been promoted for the procedure, ranging from corticosteroid to viscosupplement to the more recent autologous biological materials. Despite the increasing attention and interest in regard to the material selection, efficacy, safety, and effect of this intervention, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis using the Scopus database has yet to be conducted. In this bibliometric analysis, we reviewed the Scopus database from 2003 to 2023 to investigate the literature on intraarticular injection for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. A total of 1,318 articles that satisfied the selection criteria were included in this review. The trend of intervention shows changes since 2006, with corticosteroid injection and hyaluronic acid as the main topics of publication before 2006. However, starting in 2010, there has been a noticeable shift towards biological agents, such as plasma-rich proteins, and autologous materials, including marrow aspiration and stromal vascular fraction. This shift reflects the increasing interest in regenerative medicine and the potential of these newer therapies to provide improved outcomes. The overwhelming majority of the articles were authored by researchers and clinicians from across European countries, the United States of America (USA), and Australia. Similarly, most of the articles with the highest number of citations were authored by researchers and clinicians from these regions. This comprehensive bibliometric analysis using Scopus in the domain of intraarticular injection has the potential to act as a roadmap for researchers, clinicians, and policymakers, facilitating informed decision-making, promoting collaborative initiatives, and guiding the development of future studies to further advance the options of knee intraarticular injection, specifically in the management of knee osteoarthritis.

       OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to analyze the scientific production of genetic polymorphisms and external apical root resorption (EARR) to establish main findings, geographic trends, and research gaps for possible future investigations.
    METHODS: Unrestricted publications were searched using the Scopus database (March 2023) to include studies that addressed the association between genetic polymorphisms and EARR. Case-control, cohort, cross-sectional, and review studies were considered eligible. The softwares VOS viewer™ and Bibliometrix were used for data analysis.
    RESULTS: Of the 44 studies analyzed, "Iglesias-Linares A" was the most cited author. The University of Seville (Spain) conducted the most research on this topic. Brazil, Spain, and the USA were the leading countries in terms of citations. The most frequent term in the co-occurrence of keywords was "EARR." The journal American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics presented a great relevance in the area, demonstrating a high number of publications. Several genetic polymorphisms have been investigated, with interleukins being the most studied.
    CONCLUSION: Endodontics is an area of research that should focus more on root resorption and genetic polymorphisms, as it still underexplored, compared to orthodontics. Polymorphisms have been studied as possible predictors of EARR caused by orthodontic tooth movement. However, the gap in the research indicates a need to search for new genes associated with EARR.

      This study assessed the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on academic productivity in oncology, measured by conference abstracts, journal publications and individual authorship trends, using a reference time frame of 2018 to 2022. To assess overall academic productivity, data was obtained on the number of abstracts and articles submitted and published from a selection of oncology conferences and journals. To assess individual authorship patterns, 200 articles were randomly selected from 2018, and for the first or last authors, publications were tracked over subsequent years. Factors assessed included gender, continent, specialty, MD vs. non-MD and career status (early vs. late). The number of submitted and published conference abstracts trended downward over time between 2018 and 2022 (p=0.11 and p=0.16 respectively). Journal submissions increased to a peak in 2020 and then declined thereafter, but this did not translate into changes in the number of papers published. For the author-level analysis, factors significantly predictive of increasing publication rates in multivariable analysis were late career status (vs. early), clinician status (vs. non-clinician), surgery or public health/epidemiology specialty, and author located in Asia. Further research is needed to help ameliorate the impact of these disparities.

       Background and Objective: The rapid development of computer technology has led to a revolutionary transformation in artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted healthcare. The integration of whole-slide imaging technology with AI algorithms has facilitated the development of digital pathology for lung cancer (LC). However, there is a lack of comprehensive scientometric analysis in this field.
    Methods: A bibliometric analysis was conducted on 197 publications related to digital pathology in LC from 502 institutions across 39 countries, published in 97 academic journals in the Web of Science Core Collection between 2004 and 2023.
    Results: Our analysis has identified the United States and China as the primary research nations in the field of digital pathology in LC. However, it is important to note that the current research primarily consists of independent studies among countries, emphasizing the necessity of strengthening academic collaboration and data sharing between nations. The current focus and challenge of research related to digital pathology in LC lie in enhancing the accuracy of classification and prediction through improved deep learning algorithms. The integration of multi-omics studies presents a promising future research direction. Additionally, researchers are increasingly exploring the application of digital pathology in immunotherapy for LC patients.
    Conclusions: In conclusion, this study provides a comprehensive knowledge framework for digital pathology in LC, highlighting research trends, hotspots, and gaps in this field. It also provides a theoretical basis for the application of AI in clinical decision-making for LC patients.

      The evolution of our lives has forced changes to the healthcare system and consequently established healthcare marketing as an essential element of health services, including primary health care (PHC). This article aims to analyze the size, structure, and dynamics of research on primary healthcare marketing to identify the main topics and research trends in this area. The authors conducted a bibliographic analysis based on the methods of performance analysis and scientific mapping. The bibliographical analysis covered 1981 publications selected from the Scopus database and was carried out with the use of the MS Excel and VOSviewer applications. The results were supplemented with an in-depth analysis of 34 publications selected based on bibliographic coupling analysis to determine key research trends and results, which increased the understanding of the research area. The conducted research proves that the issue of marketing in primary health care is rarely addressed by researchers, which translates into very limited research results and little impact on the decision-making process in this area. This research field requires much greater commitment, especially in the areas indicated in the future research agenda recommendations.

       Background: Numerous studies have investigated the relationship between gut microbiota (GM) and multiple sclerosis(MS), highlighting the significant role of GM in MS. However, there is a lack of systematic Scientometric analyses published in this specific research area to provide an overall understanding of the current research status.
    Methods: Perform a scientometric analysis on research conducted between 2010 and 2023 concerning the link between GM and MS using quantitative and visual analysis software (CiteSpace and VOSviewer.).
    Results: From January 1, 2010, and December 31, 2023, a total of 1019 records about GM and MS were retrieved. The number of publications exhibited a consistent upward trend annually. The United States led in publications, showed the strongest level of collaboration among countries. The University of California, San Francisco stands as the top institution in terms of output, and the most prolific and cited authors were Lloyd H. Kasper and Javier Ochoa-Reparaz from the USA. The research in this field primarily centers on investigating the alterations and associations of GM in MS or EAE, the molecular immunological mechanisms, and the potential of GM-based interventions to provide beneficial effects in MS or EAE. The Keywords co-occurrence network reveals five primary research directions in this field. The most frequently occurring keywords are inflammation, probiotics, diet, dysbiosis, and tryptophan. In recent years, neurodegeneration and neuropsychiatric disorders have been prominent, indicating that the investigation of the mechanisms and practical applications of GM in MS has emerged as a current research focus. Moreover, GM research is progressively extending into the realm of neurodegenerative and psychiatric diseases, potentially becoming future research hotspots.
    Conclusions: This study revealed a data-driven systematic comprehension of research in the field of GM in MS over the past 13 years, highlighted noteworthy research within the field, provided us with a clear understanding of the current research status and future trends, providing a valuable reference for researchers venturing into this domain.

      Here, we present a protocol for conducting bibliometric analysis in biomedicine using CiteSpace and VOSviewer. We describe the steps for extracting data from Web of Science, data cleaning, and preprocessing. We then detail procedures for identifying research trends and collaboration networks by visualizing data with CiteSpace; mapping co-authorship, co-citation, and keyword co-occurrence using VOSviewer; and analyzing highly cited literature to identify key publications and trends. Finally, we outline techniques for interpreting the visualizations to draw meaningful conclusions about the research landscape.        INTRODUCTION: Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) is associated with abnormal fundus neovascularization. Consequently, Anti-VEGF agents are vital for ophthalmic treatment. This paper reviews the application of anti-VEGF agents in ophthalmology over the past two decades with the aim of providing insights for further research.
    METHODS: A meticulous search strategy was employed in the Web of Science Core Collection literature from 2003 to 2023 to gather relevant literature, which was then analyzed using VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and the R package Bibliometrix.
    RESULTS: The study included 3,602 publications from 83 countries and 3,445 institutions. The United States and China have emerged as leading contributors in terms of the publication volume. Johns Hopkins University, the University of Sydney, and Genentech Inc were identified as frontrunners in this field. "Retina" had the highest publication volume, whereas "Ophthalmology" had the highest citation frequency. Among the 15,918 scholars, Bressler NM, Holz FG, Glassman AR, and Bandello F led in publication volume, while Brown DM was the most cited author. High-frequency keywords included "Endothelial Growth Factor," "Therapy," "Safety," and "Randomized Clinical Trial."
    CONCLUSION: Anti-VEGF drugs have shown notable success in treating neovascular eye diseases, especially wet age-related macular degeneration and diabetic macular edema, focusing on clinical efficacy, injection regimens, and safety. Future directions include developing new anti-VEGF drugs, drug delivery systems, non-invasive administration, multi-target drugs, leveraging big data and artificial intelligence, and addressing the current treatment limits. Continuous innovation and method improvement in this field promise more breakthroughs, providing effective, safe, and economical options for eye disease treatment.

       BACKGROUND: Dengue virus (DENV) is the most widespread arbovirus. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared dengue one of the top 10 global health threats in 2019. However, it has been underrepresented in bibliometric analyses. This study employs bibliometric analysis to identify research hotspots and trends, offering a comprehensive overview of the current research dynamics in this field.
    RESULTS: We present a report spanning from 1995 to 2023 that provides a unique longitudinal analysis of Dengue virus (DENV) research, revealing significant trends and shifts not extensively covered in previous literature. A total of 10,767 DENV-related documents were considered, with a notable increase in publications, peaking at 747 articles in 2021. Plos Neglected Tropical Diseases has become the leading journal in Dengue virus research, publishing 791 articles in this field-the highest number recorded. Our bibliometric analysis provides a comprehensive mapping of DENV research across multiple dimensions, including vector ecology, virology, and emerging therapies. The study delineates a complex network of immune response genes, including IFNA1, DDX58, IFNB1, STAT1, IRF3, and NFKB1, highlighting significant trends and emerging themes, particularly the impacts of climate change and new outbreaks on disease transmission. Our findings detail the progress and current status of key vaccine candidates, including the licensed Dengvaxia, newer vaccines such as Qdenga and TV003, and updated clinical trials. The study underscores significant advancements in antiviral therapies and vector control strategies for dengue, highlighting innovative drug candidates such as AT-752 and JNJ-1802, and the potential of drug repurposing with agents like Ribavirin, Remdesivir, and Lopinavir. Additionally, it discusses biological control methods, including the introduction of Wolbachia-infected mosquitoes and gene-editing technologies.
    CONCLUSION: This bibliometric study underscores the critical role of interdisciplinary collaboration in advancing DENV research, identifying key trends and areas needing further exploration, including host-virus dynamics, the development and application of antiviral drugs and vaccines, and the use of artificial intelligence. It advocates for strengthened partnerships across various disciplines to effectively tackle the challenges posed by DENV.

      The purpose of this study was to analyse the social media activity related to endodontic research over the last 10-years. All research articles published in endodontic journals listed in Scopus (Sc) published in 2012 and 2018 were included in our study. The Altmetric Attention Score (AAS), Twitter, and Facebook mentions were obtained for each article. Citation counts were extracted using two citation metrics: Google Scholar (GS) and Sc. Correlations between the AAS, the number of social media mentions, and citations were analysed using Spearman's rank order correlation coefficient. A multivariable Poisson log-linear regression analysis shows that papers mentioned on social media gain about 35% more citations in GS and 31% more citations in Sc. The academic citations per article on GS and Sc were positively correlated with the AAS. Our data suggest an increasing positive correlation between social media mentions and article citations over the years.

      Pertussis has reemerged globally, with rising incidence in China. Controlling this disease remains a significant public health challenge worldwide. This study applies bibliometric methods to analyze global and Chinese research on pertussis, assessing current trends, identifying hot topics, predicting future research directions, and providing guidance for scientific research and clinical practice. Pertussis-related articles from 2000 to 2023 were retrieved from four major Chinese databases and three English databases. COOC and CiteSpace software were used to analyze publication trends, geographic distribution, institutions, disciplines, and keywords, to visualize through network maps. The study analyzed 2,580 Chinese and 5,311 foreign articles and reviews. Pertussis research publications have increased globally, with foreign research peaking earlier than in China. The United States leads in publication volume, while China showed the highest burst of activity from 2019 to 2023. Research mainly focuses on animal experiments, vaccine development and safety, clinical characteristics and treatment, and pertussis toxin. Pertussis research is thriving globally and in China. Future research should emphasize interdisciplinary collaboration across molecular biology, immunology, and epidemiology to innovate vaccines and control strategies. Additionally, continued development of treatment drugs remains crucial as current vaccines do not fully control pertussis.

       BACKGROUND: Advancements in technology have overcome geographical barriers, making telemedicine, which offers remote emergency services, healthcare, and medication guidance, increasingly popular. COVID-19 restrictions amplified its global importance by bridging distances.
    OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to analyze Chinese and global literature data, present new global telemedicine research trends, and clarify the development potential, collaborations, and deficiencies in China's telemedicine research.
    METHODS: We conducted bibliometrics and network analyses on relevant documents from the Web of Science database from 2001 to 2022. Data collection was completed on October 30, 2023. Considering COVID-19's impact, 2020 was used as a baseline, dividing the data into 2 periods: 2001-2019 and 2020-2022. The development potential was determined based on publication trends. An international coauthorship network analysis identified collaboration statuses and potential. Co-occurrence analysis was conducted for China and the world.
    RESULTS: We identified 25,333 telemedicine-related research papers published between 2001 and 2022, with a substantial increase during the COVID-19 period (2020-2022), particularly in China (1.93-fold increase), moving its global publication rank from tenth to sixth. The United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia contributed 62.96% of the literature, far ahead of China's 3.90%. Globally, telemedicine research increased significantly post-2020. Between 2001 and 2019, the United States and Australia were central in coauthor networks; post-2020, the United States remained the largest node. Network hubs included the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada. Keyword co-occurrence analysis revealed 5 global clusters from 2001 to 2019 (system technology, health care applications, mobile health, mental health, and electronic health) and 2020 to 2022 (COVID-19, children's mental health, artificial intelligence, digital health, and rehabilitation of middle-aged and older adults). In China, the research trends aligned with global patterns, with rapid growth post-2020. From 2001 to 2019, China cooperated closely with Indonesia, India, Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea. From 2020 to 2022, cooperation expanded to Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, and South Korea, as well as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, South Africa, Ghana, Lebanon, and other African and Middle Eastern countries. Chinese keyword co-occurrence analysis showed focus areas in system technology, health care applications, mobile health, big data analysis, and electronic health (2001-2019) and COVID-19, artificial intelligence, digital health, and mental health (2020-2022). Although psychology research increased, studies on children's mental health and middle-aged and older adults' rehabilitation were limited.
    CONCLUSIONS: We identified the latest trends in telemedicine research, demonstrating its significant potential in China and providing directions for future development and collaborations in telemedicine research.

       Background: The human gut microbiota plays a crucial role in maintaining metabolic health, with substantial evidence linking its composition to insulin resistance. This study aims to analyze the global scholarly contributions on the relationship between intestinal microbiota and insulin resistance from 2000 to 2024.
    Methods: A bibliometric analysis was conducted using data from Scopus and Web of Science Core Collection. The search strategy included terms related to "Gastrointestinal Microbiome" and "Insulin Resistance" in the title or abstract.
    Results: The analysis of 1,884 relevant studies from 510 sources was conducted, revealing a mean citation of 51.36 per manuscript and a remarkable annual growth rate of 22.08%. The findings highlight the significant role of gut microbiota in insulin resistance, corroborating prior studies that emphasize its influence on metabolic disorders. The literature review of the current study showed key mechanisms include the regulation of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and gut hormones, which are critical for glucose metabolism and inflammation regulation. The analysis also identifies "Food and Function" as the most productive journal and Nieuwdorp M. as a leading author, underscoring the collaborative nature of this research area.
    Conclusion: The consistent increase in publications in the field of gut microbiota and insulin resistance indicates growing recognition of the gut microbiota's therapeutic potential in treating insulin resistance and related metabolic disorders. Future research should focus on standardizing methodologies and conducting large-scale clinical trials to fully realize these therapeutic possibilities.

      The gut microbiota is widely regarded as a "metabolic organ" that could generate myriad metabolites to regulate human metabolism. As the microbiota metabolites, bile acids (BAs) have recently been identified as the critical endocrine molecules that mediate the cross-talk between the host and intestinal microbiota. This study provided a comprehensive insight into the gut microbiota and BA research through bibliometric analysis from 2003 to 2022. The publications on this subject showed a dramatic upward trend. Although the USA and China have produced the most publications, the USA plays a dominant role in this expanding field. Specifically, the University of Copenhagen was the most productive institution. Key research hotspots are the gut-liver axis, short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), cardiovascular disease (CVD), colorectal cancer (CRC), and the farnesoid x receptor (FXR). The molecular mechanisms and potential applications of the gut microbiota and BAs in cardiometabolic disorders and gastrointestinal cancers have significant potential for further research.

       AIM: Editors-in-Chief (EiC) play a key role as gatekeepers in academic medicine, often shaping research agendas. Women have historically been underrepresented in editorial leadership roles in academic medicine. The purpose of this study was to examine gender representation among EiC of contemporary transplantation and nephrology journals.
    METHODS: This cross-sectional study evaluated gender disparities among EiC of transplantation and nephrology medical journals. The study population was drawn from journals in two subject categories (1) 'Transplantation' and (2) 'Urology and Nephrology' in the 2023 Journal Citation Reports. Binary gender classification (woman/man) was determined by the names/pronouns used to describe the EiC on the journal or institutional webpage. The primary outcome was the proportion of women EiC. Secondary outcome was the proportion of women EiC based on journal topic, location and metrics. Descriptive statistics were used. Gender differences were compared using students t-test or Fisher's exact test.
    RESULTS: A total of 79 EiC were identified of which 16 (20%) were women and 63 (80%) were men (p < .001). Transplantation and nephrology journals had 21% and 20% women EiC, respectively. The proportion of women to men EiC was not impacted by journal category (p = .93), journal location (p = .61), journal impact factor (p = .71) or quartile (p = .59).
    CONCLUSION: There was a disparity in gender representation in EiC in nephrology and transplantation journals, with men holding 80% of all positions. These findings, among growing evidence of gender disparity, highlight a need for targeted efforts to promote gender equity in academic medicine.

       Background and Aims: While the number of female physicians has increased since the 1970s, there continues to be a lack of female surgeons compared to their male counterparts, with the gender gap more prominent in surgical subspecialties such as neurosurgery. While surgical subspecialities have accelerated initiatives to close the gap, potential disparities in research opportunities may position women at a disadvantage, particularly in neurosurgery, where academic publications are an indicator of residency match success. In this paper, we sought to investigate whether gender disparities exist in preresidency neurosurgery publications among current neurosurgery residents.
    Methods: The present study selected residency programs from the top 25 neurology and neurosurgery hospitals in US News & World Report's 2022 Ranking. A database of neurosurgery residents and their publications was created using PubMed, neurosurgery residency program websites, and supplementary search. Articles published between the time of birth and December 31st of the year of graduation (medical degree) were used to determine publications before residency.
    Results: Our research indicates that 25.7% (n = 135/526) of US neurosurgery residents at top 25 hospitals are women and 74.3% (n = 391/526) are men. Men (n = 391) had a median of 7 (interquartile range [IQR], 3-14.5; range, 0-129) publications before residency, and women (n = 135) had a median of 7 (IQR, 4-11.0; range, 0-74) publications before residency. There were no significant differences in the median number of publications between genders (p = 0.65).
    Conclusion: In conclusion, our research indicates there is no gender disparity in preresidency publications among neurosurgery residents. To improve women's representation in the field, further study is needed to better understand gender inequality among neurosurgeons, particularly in the earlier stages of medical training.

      The purpose of the present study was to analyze Adapted Physical Activity Quarterly (APAQ) publications over the journal's fourth decade (2014-2023) and compare them with previous documentary analyses of the first 3 decades. Consistent with prior documentary analyses, publications were coded and analyzed based on the use of theory, research participants, topic, whether the study was an intervention, first-author country affiliation, and research method. The total number of published research papers increased substantially (n = 61) from the third to the fourth decade. Similar to prior documentary analyses, most of the research was quantitative (n = 140; 57.5%), followed by qualitative research (n = 96; 39.5%). There were far more qualitative-research publications in the fourth decade compared with the third decade (n = 34). This may reflect the continued acceptance and growth of qualitative research compared with 10-20 years ago. It may also reflect the value of rich in-depth exploratory research using small samples. Additional trends included more review papers and meta-analyses, possibly reflecting the increased knowledge base in particular areas requiring synthesis. The diversity of topics also increased, with papers on dignity, classification, coaching, and the Paralympics playing more prominent roles. The number of international publications also grew substantially. In brief, the current paper outlines both similarities and differences in APAQ's published research over the 4 decades of its existence.

      Over the past six decades, authorship numbers in academic publications have increased significantly, a phenomenon known as authorship inflation. This study aims to analyze comparative authorship trends and the influence of multicenter collaborations across major orthopedic, medical, and surgical journals. We reviewed metadata from The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), Annals of Surgery (AS), and The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (JBJS) from January 1, 1960, to December 31, 2019. The number of authors per publication, the prevalence of multicenter studies, and their correlation were analyzed. Data was visualized using heat maps and box plots, and trends were statistically tested using the Jonckheere-Terpstra, Mann-Kendall, and generalized linear mixed models (GLMMs). A total of 73,062 articles were analyzed, with 1,190 articles identified as originating from multicenter studies. The number of multicenter trials was found to have increased significantly over time (p < 0.001), plateauing in NEJM but continuing to rise in JBJS and AS. There was a significant increase in authorship numbers per publication over time, across all journals (p < 0.0001). There was a significant statistical correlation (p < 0.0001) as indicated by the coefficient of determination (r2), for the association between the proportion of publications with >10 authors and the proportion of multicenter publications across all three journals. Authorship inflation in academic publishing may be attributable to the rise in multicenter collaborations. The rate of increase in authorship was more pronounced in medical and surgical journals compared to orthopedic journals, reflecting differing trends across specialties. These findings highlight the evolving nature of research collaboration and authorship practices in academic publishing.

      This study presents a comparative analysis of the publications of students participating in the Arrow Research Program in comparison to those of attending physicians and researchers at the same tertiary medical center in order to assess the impact of the Arrow Research Program on the students' scientific achievements. The study encompassed 90 Arrow Research Program students that were involved in the program at the Sheba Medical Center between 2019 and 2021. As a comparison group, 2082 attending physicians and researchers affiliated with the same center during the same period of time were considered. Publications were collected from the Web of Science Database, and the publication data parameters of each group were compared to assess scientific outcomes. The Arrow Research Program students collectively published 67 articles, and the 2082 physicians and researchers in the comparison group produced 4283 papers during the study timeframe. Similarly, the average impact factor of the journals in which the Arrow Research Program papers were published was 4.16 ± 2.68, similar to the average impact factor of 4.74 ± 6.26 in the comparison group (p = 0.388). Likewise, the average quartile of the journals in which the Arrow Research Program articles were published was 1.39 ± 0.59, which is similar to the comparison group's average quartile of 1.39 ± 0.63 (p = 0.997). In conclusion, the Arrow Research Program demonstrates its effectiveness in empowering young students to execute successful research projects. This study may help develop educational programs worldwide.

       BACKGROUND: Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (PJS) has brought significant physical, psychological and economic burdens on the patients and their families due to its early onset, diagnostic and therapeutic challenges and increased recurrence risk.
    AIM: To explore the current research status and emerging hotspots of PJS.
    METHODS: Studies on PJS published during 1994-2023 were gathered based on Web of Science Core Collection. Additionally, a case of PJS-induced intestinal intussusception, successfully treated with endoscopic methods despite three laparotomies, was highlighted. Comprehensive bibliometric and visual analysis were conducted with VOSviewer, R and CiteSpace.
    RESULTS: Altogether 1760 studies were identified, indicating a steady increase in the publication number. The United States had the highest influence, whereas the University of Helsinki emerged as the leading institution, and Aaltonen LA from the University of Helsinki was the most prolific author. Cancer Research, Oncogene and Endoscopy were the top three journals based on H-index. Keyword burst direction analysis revealed that "cancer risk", "management", "surveillance" and "familial pancreatic cancer" were the potential hotspots for investigation. Additionally, "early detection", "capsule endoscopy", "clinical management", "double-balloon endoscopy", "familial pancreatic cancer" and "molecular genetic basis" were identified as the key clusters of co-cited references. Endoscopic polypectomy remained effective on resolving intestinal intussusception in patients who underwent three previous laparotomies.
    CONCLUSION: In the last three decades, global publications related to PJS show a steadily increasing trend in number. Endoscopic management is currently a research hotspot.

      The continuous integration of digital technology and finance has spurred the rapid development of the digital finance industry, making it a critical area of interest for scholars. This study combines quantitative research methods using Citespace software for scientometric analysis and qualitative research methods involving manual selection and content analysis of key literature to summarise the research status, hot topics, and frontiers in the field of digital finance in China. The research findings highlight several influential factors in the digital finance literature, such as regional and journal distribution, institutional and author collaboration, and highly cited literature. Currently, the four most important and cutting-edge research areas are digital currency, digital inclusive finance, fintech and blockchain technology. Furthermore, an analysis of the development trends in digital finance research is conducted and future research perspectives are suggested.

       INTRODUCTION: Research is a critical component of academic medicine that may or may not be prioritized in centers with high clinical volumes. The benefits of research expansion go beyond notoriety and industry partnerships, expanding into resident training and preparation of the next generation of physician-scientists. Improving a division or department's research portfolio requires a commitment to reorganizing structure, personnel, resources, and a dedication to innovative funding models. To improve research productivity and quality, our group placed several initiatives into motion beginning in August 2017 that we have outlined and evaluated in the present study. Some of these initiatives included restructuring leadership, resourcing both bench and clinical outcomes research, providing initial funding directly from clinical profits and rewarding research fiscally.
    METHODS: Reviews of hiring records, publications, grant allocations, and interviews with key personnel were used to generate a road map of initiatives. Average impact factor was calculated by averaging journal impact factors for all publications from the department each year, excluding any publications with greater than 5 times the raw average, and creating a corrected average that more accurately represented the work. Student t tests were used to compare mean number of publications and impact factors from 2010 to 2017 to those from 2018 to 2022.
    RESULTS: Prior to restructuring (2010-2017), the department published an average of 9 articles annually, which increased to an average of 42 articles since that time (P < 0.01). Average impact increased from 0 in 2010 to 4.02 in 2022, with the number of publications in top 10 plastic surgery journals following a similar trajectory with 1 publication in 2010 and 31 in 2023. Following an initial $1 million investment to create an institutionally directed fund in 2018, the department leveraged its research to earn $3 million in endowments, $1.25 million in industry partnerships, $3.23 million in Department of Defense funding, and $1.65 million from a multi-institutional National Institutes of Health grant.
    CONCLUSION: Deliberate prioritization of research initiatives as noted above has led to remarkable growth in academic output.

      Precast reinforcement concrete (RC) structures have attracted increasing attention in the global construction industry. They offer advantages such as reduced construction time, improved quality, and sustainability. However, their seismic performance and construction pose unique challenges. This study comprehensively reviewed and systematically analyzed the nodal connection techniques of RC precast structures. Using a data-driven approach combining quantitative and qualitative analyses, relevant literature was collected from the Web of Science database based on specific search criteria. Historical and recent trends in the scientific landscape were visualized, and citation networks were analyzed. In addition, the study reviewed different types of beam-column connections, which is a significant research focus. The results indicate that although various types of nodal connections demonstrate good seismic performance in experiments, they still face challenges of complexity and long-term maintenance in actual construction.

       BACKGROUND: Substance use disorders (SUDs) and mental health disorders (MHDs) are significant public health challenges with far-reaching consequences on individuals and society. Dual diagnosis, the coexistence of SUDs and MHDs, poses unique complexities and impacts treatment outcomes. A research landscape analysis was conducted to explore the growth, active countries, and active journals in this field, identify research hotspots, and emerging research topics.
    METHOD: A systematic research landscape analysis was conducted using Scopus to retrieve articles on dual diagnosis of SUDs and MHDs. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied to focus on research articles published in English up to December 2022. Data were processed and mapped using VOSviewer to visualize research trends.
    RESULTS: A total of 935 research articles were found. The number of research articles on has been increasing steadily since the mid-1990s, with a peak of publications between 2003 and 2012, followed by a fluctuating steady state from 2013 to 2022. The United States contributed the most articles (62.5%), followed by Canada (9.4%). The Journal of Dual Diagnosis, Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment, and Mental Health and Substance Use Dual Diagnosis were the top active journals in the field. Key research hotspots include the comorbidity of SUDs and MHDs, treatment interventions, quality of life and functioning, epidemiology, and the implications of comorbidity. Emerging research topics include neurobiological and psychosocial aspects, environmental and sociocultural factors, innovative interventions, special populations, and public health implications.
    CONCLUSIONS: The research landscape analysis provides valuable insights into dual diagnosis research trends, active countries, journals, and emerging topics. Integrated approaches, evidence-based interventions, and targeted policies are crucial for addressing the complex interplay between substance use and mental health disorders and improving patient outcomes.

       BACKGROUND: As the global population ages, we witness a broad scientific and technological revolution tailored to meet the health challenges of older adults. Over the past 25 years, technological innovations, ranging from advanced medical devices to user-friendly mobile applications, are transforming the way we address these challenges, offering new avenues to enhance the quality of life and well-being of the aging demographic.
    OBJECTIVE: To systematically review the development trends in technology for managing and caring for elderly health over the past 25 years, and to project future development prospects.
    METHODS: We conducted a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of literatures related to Tech-based solutions for health challenges in aging, published up to March 18, 2024. The search was performed using the Web of Science Core Collection, covering a span from 1999 to 2024. Our search strategy was designed to capture a broad spectrum of terms associated with aging, health challenges specific to the elderly, and technological interventions.
    RESULTS: A total of 1,133 publications were found in WoSCC. The publication trend over these 25 years showed a gradual but fluctuating increase. The United States was the most productive country, and participated in international collaboration most frequently. The predominant keywords identified through this analysis include "dementia", "telemedicine", "older-adults", "telehealth", "care". The Keywords with citation bursts from "telemedicine" to "digital health".
    CONCLUSIONS: The scientific and technological revolution has significantly improved elderly health management, particularly in chronic disease monitoring, mobility, and social connectivity. The momentum for innovation continues to build, with future research likely to focus on predictive analytics and personalized healthcare solutions, further enhancing elderly independence and quality of life.

       AIMS: To evaluate where orthodontic research papers are published and to explore potential relationships between the journal of publication and the characteristics of the research study and authorship.
    METHODS: An online literature search of seven research databases was undertaken to identify orthodontic articles published in English language over a 12-month period (1 January-31 December 2022) (last search: 12 June 2023). Data extracted included journal, article, and author characteristics. Journal legitimacy was assessed using a ternary classification scheme including available blacklists and whitelists, cross-checking of indexing claims and history of sending unsolicited emails. The level of evidence (LOE) of all included studies was assessed using a modified Oxford LOE classification scale. Univariable and multivariable ordinal logistic regression analyses were performed to examine possible associations between the level of evidence, journal discipline, and authorship characteristics.
    RESULTS: A total of 753 studies, published by 246 unique journal titles, were included and further assessed. Nearly two-thirds of orthodontic papers were published in non-orthodontic journals (62.8%) and over half (55.6%) of the articles were published in open-access policy journals. About a fifth of the articles (21.2%) were published either in presumed predatory journals or in journals of uncertain legitimacy. Journal discipline was significantly associated with the level of evidence. Higher-quality orthodontic studies were more likely published in established orthodontic journals (likelihood ratio test P < .001).
    LIMITATIONS: The identification and classification of predatory journals are challenging due to their covert nature.
    CONCLUSIONS: The majority of orthodontic articles were published in non-orthodontic journals. In addition, approximately one in five orthodontic studies were published in presumed predatory journals or in journals of uncertain legitimacy. Studies with higher levels of evidence were more likely to be published in established orthodontic journals.

       BACKGROUND: Tumor is a new organism formed by abnormal hyperplasia of local tissue cells under the action of various tumorigenic factors. Inflammation plays a decisive role in inducing tumorigenesis, promoting tumor development, invasion and migration. More and more evidence indicate that exosomes are involved in regulating the formation of tumor microenvironment in the process of proinflammatory carcinogenesis, leading to the stimulation of anti-tumor immune response or systemic immunosuppression, and exosomes play a crucial role in the development of tumor.
    METHODS: The articles on tumor-derived exosomes and inflammatory responses from January 2005 to January 2024 were collected through Web of Science (WOS), and the inclusion criteria were "Article", "Review Article" and "Early Access". Articles obtained after excluding "Book Chapters", "Editorial Material", "Proceeding Paper", "Meeting Abstract" and "Retracted Publication". Bibliometrics and visualization analysis were carried out on the obtained articles using CiteSpace6.2.R6 and VOSviewer1.6.20.
    RESULTS: Total of 703 articles were included. The number of published documents showed a fluctuating growth trend year by year. A total of 61 countries have participated in the research on the effects of exosomes and inflammatory responses on tumors, among which China and the United States have the largest influence in this field. The obtained articles have been published in 60 journals around the world, among which PLOS ONE and NAT REV IMMUNOL are the journals with the most published articles and the highest co-citations respectively. The article from French author THERY C was cited the most (202 times). As a major researcher on the basic function of exosomes, THERY C established the gold standard for extraction, separation and identification of exosomes, and found that exosomes promote tumor metastasis through direct regulation of miRNA. Her research has had a huge impact on the field. Keyword co-occurrence analysis indicate that extracellular vesicles, inflammation, cancer, miRNAs, mesenchymal stem cells, drug delivery, gastric cancer and circulating endothelial microparticles are the research hotspot at present stage. The main keywords of the cluster analysis show that extracellular vesicles, human papilloma virus, myeloid cells, tumor macro-environment are the current research hotspots and frontier. The research hotspots have developed over time from the time chart of keywords and clustering, especially after 2016, exosomes have established extensive links with drug delivery, cancer treatment, inflammatory response and other fields. Tumor-derived exosomes stimulate receptor cells to secrete pro-inflammatory cytokines and growth factors, enabling immune and inflammatory cells to perceive the intracellular environment of cancer cells even when cancer cells do not express any tumor-specific antigens. For example, in anoxic environment, cancer cells can secrete exosomes containing pro-inflammatory factors to promote the invasion and metastasis of cancer cells. In the complex tumor microenvironment, both tumor cells and various stromal cells will secrete specific exosomes, and promote the development of tumors through various ways, so that tumor cells have drug resistance, and bring adverse effects on the clinical treatment of tumor patients. MicroRNAs and long noncoding RNA as hot keywords play important roles in regulating and mediating tumor development, and their specificity makes them important biomarkers for cancer prediction and diagnosis. Highlighting word analysis shows that microRNAs secreted by leukemia patients can effectively promote the proliferation of malignant cells and the development of cardiovascular diseases. At the same time, exosomes can induce the secretion of some microRNAs in patients, leading to cardiac repair and regeneration. Therefore, the detection and screening of microRNAs plays a crucial role in predicting the incidence of cardiovascular diseases in patients.
    CONCLUSION: Exosomes have attracted increasing attention due to their significant heterogeneity and ability to regulate the tumor immune microenvironment. However, tumor cell-derived exosomes accelerate tumor progression by enhancing immunosuppression and inflammation, increasing oxidative stress, and promoting angiogenesis, which may lead to poor prognosis.

      Microorganisms with the ability to dissolve phosphorus have the potential to release this essential nutrient into the soil through natural solubilization processes, which allows for boosting plant growth and development. While literature reviews acknowledge their potential, unexplored territories concerning accessibility, application, and effective integration into sustainable agriculture necessitate further research. This manuscript employed distinct methodologies to execute a bibliometric analysis and a literature review. The combined application of both methodologies enables a holistic understanding of the domain landscape and its innovative facets. For the bibliometric analysis, the propositions of Donthu and Jia were utilized, supplemented by tools, such as Bibliometrix. The literature review adhered to a systematic methodology predicated on Petersen's guidelines to represent the domain accurately, pinpointing trends and gaps that could steer future, more detailed research. This investigation uncovers an escalating interest in studying these microorganisms since the 2000s, emphasizing their significance in sustainable agriculture and the context of phosphorus scarcity. It was also discerned that India and China, nations with notable agricultural sectors and a high demand for phosphorus fertilizers, spearheaded research output on this subject. This signifies their substantial contribution to the progression of this scientific field. Furthermore, according to the research consulted, phosphorus-solubilizing microorganisms play a pivotal role in the symbiotic interaction of soil with plant roots and represent an efficacious strategy to counteract the low availability of phosphorus in the soil and sustainably enhance agricultural systems. Finally, this review contributes to the relevant domain by examining existing empirical evidence with special emphasis on sustainable agriculture, improved understanding of phosphorus solubilization mechanisms, and recognition of various microbial entities.

       OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to review and compare the research experiences and career outcomes of international medical graduates (IMGs) with those of US medical graduates (USMGs).
    METHODS: Neurosurgery graduates from 2018 to 2020 were evaluated on the basis of medical school, degree, residency program, publications before and during residency, postresidency fellowships, and career progression. Publications were further categorized by author order and type (laboratory, comprehensive clinical, or short communication).
    RESULTS: Of 550 neurosurgery graduates, 39 (7%) were IMGs, with the largest percentages from India (8/39, 21%) and in a residency position in Pennsylvania (5/39, 13%). Prior to residency, IMGs had a higher median number of all publications (4 vs 1, p < 0.001), first-author articles (2 vs 0, p < 0.001), comprehensive clinical articles (1 vs 0, p = 0.002), and short communication articles (1 vs 0, p < 0.001) than USMGs. Similarly, the median number of papers published by IMGs during residency was also higher compared with that of USMGs for all publications (20 vs 9, p = 0.004), laboratory articles (1 vs 0, p < 0.001), and short communication articles (4 vs 3, p = 0.04). The percentage of early academic appointments was higher for IMGs (25/39, 64%) than for USMGs (232/511, 45%) (p = 0.03). No significant difference was observed between the percentages of postresidency clinical fellowships completed by IMGs (28/39, 72%) and USMGs (302/511, 59%) (p = 0.15). No statistical significance was found between the ranking of neurosurgery residency programs attended by IMGs and USMGs (p = 0.65).
    CONCLUSIONS: The results indicate that IMGs often exhibit higher academic productivity than USMGs. Although there was no discernible difference in residency program rankings or postresidency fellowships completed, early academic appointments were more prevalent among IMGs.

       RESEARCH QUESTION: Are authors aware when they have cited a retracted paper in their manuscripts in the medically assisted reproduction (MAR) field?
    DESIGN: A cross-sectional study based on an online survey was conducted to acquire information on the citation pattern from corresponding authors who had cited a retracted article. A dataset of retracted articles in the MAR field was collected from PubMed and Retraction Watch. A complete list of published articles that cited each retracted article was retrieved. The survey was distributed via e-mail to corresponding authors who had cited a retracted paper in their study.
    RESULTS: The survey revealed a significant lack of awareness among authors, with 78.7% unaware that they had cited retracted articles. This lack of awareness was attributed to insufficient notification mechanisms within research databases and journals, alongside a reliance on previously stored copies of manuscripts. A notable finding was that reference checks were typically performed by a single author, with no instances of retraction concerns raised during the peer-review process. Only a small fraction (17.8%) of respondents reported verifying retraction notices on both journal websites and scientific databases.
    CONCLUSIONS: Correcting publications that contain references which are subsequently retracted is significant for systematic reviews, meta-analyses and guidelines. Citations of retracted articles perpetuate erroneous scientific data, but assessing the accuracy of citations requires considerable effort. Proper notification of retraction status and cross-checking of citations can help to prevent errors.

      We use data from 30 countries and find that the more women in a discipline, the lower quality the research in that discipline is evaluated to be and the lower the funding success rate is. This affects men and women, and is robust to age, number of research outputs, and bibliometric measures where such data are available. Our work builds on others' findings that women's work is valued less, regardless of who performs that work.

       Background: Research on Coffea arabica focuses on various aspects, including genetics, breeding, climate change resilience, pest and disease management, agronomy, sensory analysis, and sustainability. This study aims to analyze the hotspots, conceptual map and dynamicity, global landscape, and emerging trends in Coffea arabica research (CA-R).
    Methods: A comprehensive dataset comprising data-driven articles (N = 3967) from 1932 to 2023 was extracted from Scopus using predefined search terms. VOSviewer and Bibliometrix applications were utilized to analyze the data. Thematic evolution was examined by identifying shifts in research focus over time. The global landscape was assessed by examining comparative productivity and collaborative dynamics. Highly-cited CA-R was identified to highlight key findings in specific research areas.
    Results: The analysis revealed a steady growth of CA-R (annual growth rate = 6.53 %), with strong international collaboration (international co-authorships = 29.35 %) and significant contributions from various countries. Brazil leads the way with 1601 publications, accounting for 28.55 % of the total. Recognizable CA-R focused on important areas such as pollination, shade management, nanotechnology applications, roasting effects, disease management, and environmental impacts. Thematic analysis identified five distinct clusters representing different CA-R themes: "coffee", "coffea," "fermentation," "Coffea arabica," and "climate change." Emerging themes such as "in vitro culture," "sustainable agriculture," "climate change," and "coffee berry borer" were also identified.
    Conclusion: The current findings enhance our understanding of CA-R and lay the groundwork for future studies in the coffee industry.

       Purpose: Nowadays, many studies discuss scholarly publishing and associated challenges, but the problem of hijacked journals has been neglected. Hijacked journals are cloned websites that mimic original journals but are managed by cybercriminals. The present study uses a topic modeling approach to analyze published papers in hijacked versions of medical journals.
    Methods: A total of 3384 papers were downloaded from 21 hijacked journals in the medical domain and analyzed by topic modeling algorithm.
    Results: Results indicate that hijacked versions of medical journals are published in most fields of the medical domain and typically respect the primary domain of the original journal.
    Conclusion: The academic world is faced with the third-generation of hijacked journals, and their detection may be more complex than common ones. The usage of artificial intelligence (AI) can be a powerful tool to deal with the phenomenon.

       BACKGROUND: Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is the highest academic degree awarded by universities in most fields of study. In surgery, it is thought to provide surgeons with skills to conduct high-quality research and advance academically. However, this presumed effect has not been assessed among academic plastic surgeons (APSs) and plastic surgery residents (PSRs). The purpose of this study is to determine the differences in multiple strata of career progression and success between PhD and non-PhD graduates in academic plastic surgery.
    METHODS: We conducted a nationwide cross-sectional study of APSs and PSRs. Departmental websites of integrated plastic surgery residency programs were used to identify our study population and their demographics, degrees, and tenure status. Data on research productivity were collected using Scopus. Information on research funding was gathered through the National Institutes of Health and Plastic Surgery Foundation. To assess the plastic surgery programs' reputations, we divided residency programs into four quartiles (Q1, 1-20; Q2, 21-40; Q3, 41-60; Q4, 61+) according to their Doximity ranking.
    RESULTS: We identified 841 APSs (78.5% men) and 948 PSRs (58.1% men), of whom 5.1% and 2.7% had a PhD degree, respectively. PhD graduates had significantly more advanced research portfolios. PhD APSs were more likely to secure research funding, and PhD PSRs were more likely to train at highly reputed programs. However, academic rank and leadership appointments were not significantly influenced by PhDs.
    CONCLUSION: Holding a PhD can strongly advance a plastic surgeon's research portfolio, but it does not guarantee a better position or tenure status.

      The aim of this review was to know the existing scientific production on therapeutic exercise in older adults. A bibliographic search was carried out on 2023 January in Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science and Sportdiscus databases. Selection criteria were: people aged 65 and above, healthy or with any pathology, and therapeutic exercise programs exclusive or associated with other complications. Language, publication date, and study design were not limited. Data extracted were: year, study type, design and methodology, country of the study and specialty of the journal where it was published. 1094 studies were obtained from 1967 to 2021. The scientific production had a slow evolution until the 2010s when the number of articles began to be significant. According to the types of study, 6.9% were systematic review, 90% research studies, 0.5% opinion studies, and 2.6% other types of studies. The most abundant specialties are geriatrics and gerontology (38.8%), and rehabilitation (16.1%), concentrating more than 50% of the total production. According to the study countries, only 4 concentrated 50% of the publications: the United States (29.16%), Australia (7.95%), Canada (7.31%) and the United Kingdom (6.95%).

      Background Podcasts have become an increasingly popular method of communicating information in medicine, including in radiology. However, the effect of podcasts on the reach of journal articles remains unclear. Purpose To evaluate the influence of Radiology podcasts on the performance metrics, including downloads, citations, and Altmetric Attention Score (AAS), of Radiology articles. Materials and Methods This was a retrospective study. All articles published in the print version of Radiology from January 2021 to December 2022 were reviewed; editorials and case reports were excluded. Articles featured on Radiology podcasts were included in the podcast group. Articles published within the same journal issue and category were the nonpodcast group. Downloads, Google Scholar citations, Dimensions citations, and AAS metrics were recorded. The Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare medians and evaluate differences between older and more recently published articles. Results The podcast group, composed of 88 articles, exhibited significantly higher median values for downloads (PG, 4521.0; nonpodcast group, 2123.0; P < .001), Google Scholar citations (podcast group, 14.5; nonpodcast group, 10.0; P = .01), Dimensions citations (podcast group, 12.0; nonpodcast group, 9.0; P = .01), and AAS (podcast group, 43.0; nonpodcast group, 10.0; P < .001) compared with the nonpodcast group of 378 articles. Within both groups, articles published in the earlier nonpodcast group (January to June 2021) had higher downloads (podcast group, P = .08; nonpodcast group, P < .001), Google Scholar citations (podcast group and nonpodcast group, P < .001), and Dimension citations (podcast group and nonpodcast group, P < .001) than articles from the later period (July to December 2022). AAS markedly increased in recent podcast articles (P = .03), but AAS for nonpodcast articles significantly decreased over time (P = .01). Conclusion Radiology articles featured on the Radiology podcast had greater median metrics, including downloads, Google Scholar citations, Dimensions citations, and AAS, compared with nonpodcast articles, suggesting that podcasts can be an effective method of disseminating and amplifying research within the field of radiology. © RSNA, 2024 See also the editorial by Chu and Nicola in this issue.

      Biologists increasingly rely on computer code to collect and analyze their data, reinforcing the importance of published code for transparency, reproducibility, training, and a basis for further work. Here, we conduct a literature review estimating temporal trends in code sharing in ecology and evolution publications since 2010, and test for an influence of code sharing on citation rate. We find that code is rarely published (only 6% of papers), with little improvement over time. We also found there may be incentives to publish code: Publications that share code have tended to be low-impact initially, but accumulate citations faster, compensating for this deficit. Studies that additionally meet other Open Science criteria, open-access publication, or data sharing, have still higher citation rates, with publications meeting all three criteria (code sharing, data sharing, and open access publication) tending to have the most citations and highest rate of citation accumulation.

       PURPOSE: This study aims to comprehensively evaluate the quality of radiomics research by examining unique papers from reviews using the radiomics quality score (RQS).
    METHODS: A literature search was conducted in PubMed (last search date: April 14, 2024). Systematic or non-systematic reviews using the RQS to evaluate radiomic studies were potentially included. Exclusion was applied at two levels: first, at the review level, and second, at the study level (i.e., for the individual articles previously evaluated within the reviews). Score-wise and item-wise analyses were performed, along with trend, multivariable, and subgroup analyses based on baseline study characteristics and validation methods.
    RESULTS: A total of 1574 unique papers (published online between 1999 and 2023) from 89 reviews were included in the final analysis. The median RQS percentage was 31% with an IQR of 25% (25th-75th percentiles, 14-39%). A positive correlation between median RQS percentage and publication year (2014-2023) was found, with Kendall's tau coefficient of 0.908 (p < 0.001), suggesting an improvement in quality over time. The quality of radiomics publications significantly varied according to different subfields of radiology (p < 0.001). Around one-third of the publications (32%) lacked a separate validation set. Papers with internal validation (54%) dominated those with external validation (14%). Higher-quality validation practices were significantly associated with better RQS percentage scores, independent of the validation's effect on the final score. Item-wise analysis revealed significant shortcomings in several areas.
    CONCLUSION: Radiomics research quality is low but improving according to RQS. Significant variation exists across radiology subfields. Critical areas were identified for targeted improvement.
    CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: Our study shows that the quality of radiomics research is generally low but improving over time, with item-wise analysis highlighting critical areas needing improvement. It also reveals that the quality of radiomics research differs across subfields and validation methods.
    KEY POINTS: Overall quality of radiomics research remains low and highly variable, although a significant positive trend suggests an improvement in quality over time. Considerable variations exist in the quality of radiomics publications across different subfields of radiology and validation types. The item-wise analysis highlights several critical areas requiring attention, emphasizing the need for targeted improvements.

       INTRODUCTION: In current neuroimaging studies, the mainstream practice is to report results corrected for multiple comparisons to control for false positives. In 2009, Lieberman and Cunningham published a highly cited report that promotes the use of uncorrected statistical thresholds to balance Types I and II error rates. This paper aims to review recent studies that cited this report, investigating whether the citations were to justify the use of uncorrected statistical thresholds, and if their uncorrected thresholds adhered to the recommended defaults.
    METHODS: The Web of Science Core Collection online database was queried to identify original articles published during 2019-2022 that cited the report.
    RESULTS: It was found that the majority of the citing papers (152/225, 67.6%) used the citation to justify their statistical threshold setting. However, only 19.7% of these 152 papers strictly followed the recommended uncorrected P (Punc) < 0.005, k = 10 (15/152, 9.9%) or Punc < 0.005, k = 20 (15/152, 9.9%). Over half (78/152, 51.3%) used various cluster-extent based thresholds with Punc, with the predominant choices being Punc < 0.001, k = 50 and Punc < 0.001, k = 10, mostly without justifying their deviation from the default. Few papers matched the voxel size and smoothing kernel size used by the simulations from the report to derive the recommended thresholds.
    CONCLUSION: This survey reveals a disconnect between the use and citation of Lieberman and Cunningham's report. Future studies should justify their chosen statistical thresholds based on rigorous statistical theory and study-specific parameters, rather than merely citing previous works. Furthermore, this paper encourages the neuroimaging community to publicly share their group-level statistical images and metadata to promote transparency and collaboration.

      Salvianolic acid B (SalB), among the most abundant bioactive polyphenolic compounds found in Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge., exerts therapeutic and protective effects against various diseases. Although some summaries of the activities of SalB exist, there is lack of a scientometric and in-depth review regarding disease therapy. In this review, scientometrics was employed to analyze the number of articles, publication trends, countries, institutions, keywords, and highly cited papers pertaining to SalB research. The scientometric findings showed that SalB exerts excellent protective effects on the heart, lungs, liver, bones, and brain, along with significant therapeutic effects against atherosclerosis (AS), Alzheimer's disease (AD), liver fibrosis, diabetes, heart/brain ischemia, and osteoporosis, by regulating signaling pathways and acting on specific molecular targets. Moreover, this review delves into in-depth insights and perspectives, such as the utilization of SalB in combination with other drugs, the validation of molecular mechanisms and targets, and the research and development of novel drug carriers and dosage forms. In conclusion, this review aimed to offer a comprehensive scientometric analysis and in-depth appraisal of SalB research, encompassing both present achievements and future prospects, thereby providing a valuable resource for the clinical application and therapeutic exploitation of SalB.
