       Background/purpose: Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is a common oral mucosal disease. Despite a variety of scientific articles have been available till date, merely a few scientometric analyses have been systematically carried out in this field. The objective of this study was to recognize the hotspots and research trends related to RAS via bibliometric approach.
    Materials and methods: The Elsevier's Scopus database was searched to retrieve qualified literature through an advanced search strategy on 9 Feb 2023. The basic information was collected as following: article type, publication year, journals, impact factor, the count of citations, citation density, keywords, authors, contributing institutions and country.
    Results: A list of 986 publications were identified from 1933 to 2022, and the number of citations for each paper varied from 0 to 283. A steady increasing trend in the number of documents could be observed each decade with the summit in 2010s. Controlled study (n = 334) and major clinical study (n = 192) were the most common types of study design. Scully C (n = 26) was identified as the most productive author. United States (n = 166) and Turkey (n = 101) top the list of dedicating countries.
    Conclusion: This report would offer profound insight into the current status of RAS research and serve as a reference source for anyone planning to enhance the quality of future work.

       Background: Our aim was to examine trends in the bibliometric analysis of synovial for osteoarthritis over the last 10 years.
    Methods: Publications relevant to synovial in osteoarthritis from 2013 to 2022 were retrieved from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E), Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), and Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) databases. The countries/regions, institutions, authors, journals, references, and keywords related to this topic were extracted using Citespace and Vosviewer. Citespace and Vosviewer were also used to identify and analyze this field's research hotspots and trends.
    Results: Over the past 10 years, 5738 articles addressing the role of synovium in osteoarthritis have been published. Between 2013 and 2022, 2021 had the highest amount of published articles (a total of 756 published articles, or 13.18 % of the total articles) covering synovial in osteoarthritis. China was the country that published the most articles, while Duke University was the institution that published the most articles. Osteoarthritis and Cartilage was the journal with the most publications related to the study of Synovium in osteoarthritis. The National Nature Science Foundation of China provided the most funding. According to the analysis of keyword burst detection, human cartilage, control experiment, and exosomes were the most searched at different points in time.
    Conclusion: In the last ten years, both the number of citations and the article discussing synovial in osteoarthritis have increased. The top 10 most searched keywords were "osteoarthritis","synovial fluid", "inflammation", "cartilage", "expression","rheumatoid arthritis","articular cartilage", "knee osteoarthritis", "synovial", "knee". According to the timeline view of co-citation clustering, synovial components and their expressions have emerged as hotspots of research associated with synovial osteoarthritis.

       Introduction: Recurrent ovarian cancer (ROC) presents a dismal prognosis, persistently devoid of efficacious therapeutic strategies. Over the past decade, significant shifts have transpired in ROC management, marked by the identification of novel therapeutic targets and advancements in biomarker research and innovation. Since bibliometrics is an effective method for revealing scientific literature, we conducted a bibliometric analysis of literature pertaining to ROC. Our exploration encompassed identifying emerging research trends and common patterns, analyzing collaborative networks, and anticipating future directions within this clinical context.
    Methods: We conducted a search in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) to acquire relevant articles as our dataset, which were then exported using R-Studio-2023.12.0-369 software. The Bibliometrix R package was utilized to perform visual analyses on countries, institutions, journals, authors, landmark articles, and keywords within this research field.
    Results: A total of 1538 articles and 173 reviews published between 2014 and 2023 were eventually retrieved. The annual growth rate of scientific production was 4.27%. The USA led the way in the number of published works, total citations, and collaboration. Gynecologic Oncology was the most favoured journal in this research field. Vergote I from the University Hospital Leuven, was the most influential author. At last, the most prominent keywords were "chemotherapy" (n = 124), "bevacizumab" (n = 87), and "survival" (n = 65). Clinical outcomes (prognosis, survival), chemotherapy, bevacizumab, and PARP inhibitors (olaparib, niraparib) represented the basic and transversal themes, while antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) and drug resistance were emerging themes. Cytoreduction surgical procedures and tamoxifen were niche themes, while immunotherapy and biomarkers were motor themes and had high centrality.
    Conclusion: The trends in the ROC research field over the past decade were revealed through bibliometric analysis. Platinum resistance, ADC, and immunotherapy have emerged as the current prominent research topics.

       BACKGROUND: Owing to the adverse effects of unilateral neglect (UN) on rehabilitation outcomes, fall risk, and activities of daily living, this field has gradually got considerable interest. Notwithstanding, there is presently an absence of efficient portrayals of the entire research field; hence, the motivation behind this study was to dissect and evaluate the literature published in the field of UN following stroke and other nonprogressive brain injuries to identify hotspots and trends for future research.
    MATERIALS AND METHODS: Original articles and reviews related to UN from 1970 to 2022 were retrieved from the Science Citation Index Expanded of the Web of Science Core Collection. CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Bibliometrix software were used to observe publication fields, countries, and authors.
    RESULTS: A total of 1,202 publications were incorporated, consisting of 92% of original articles, with an overall fluctuating upward trend in the number of publications. Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States made critical contributions, with Neuropsychologia being the most persuasive academic journal, and Bartolomeo P. ranked first in both the quantity of publications and co-citations. Keywords were divided into four clusters, and burst keyword detection demonstrated that networks and virtual reality might additionally emerge as frontiers of future development and warrant additional attention.
    CONCLUSIONS: UN is an emerging field, and this study presents the first bibliometric analysis to provide a comprehensive overview of research in the field. The insights and guidance garnered from our research on frontiers, trends, and popular topics could prove highly valuable in facilitating the rapid development of this field while informing future research directions.

       BACKGROUND: Proliferative verrucous leucoplakia (PVL) is a rare but slow-growing, aggressive leucoplakia lesion associated with the highest malignant transformation rate in oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs). With increasing attention paid to PVL, it is urgent for us to analyse and summarise the publications globally using comprehensive bibliometric studies to help researchers propose possible future research directions and guide them to further conduct relevant studies in the domain.
    OBJECTIVES: The purpose of the study was to evaluate global academic productivity, impact, and collaboration of potentially malignant oral disorder PVL utilising bibliometrics based on annual number of publications, countries and regions, institution, authors, journals, citations and co-occurrences of author keywords over the last 20 years.
    METHODS: This study searched publications pertaining to proliferative verrucous leucoplakia in the Web of Science Core Collection, spanning from 2003 to 2023. Utilizing VOSviewer, R software, Bibliometric online analysis platform, CiteSpace software, and Microsoft Excel, we conducted a bibliometric and visualised analysis of PVL.
    RESULTS: The quantity of pertinent publications in this research domain displays a fluctuating but overall upward trend. In aggregate, there are 148 articles and 61 reviews, encompassing research contributions from 44 countries, 45 institutions, and involving 831 authors. Among these publications, the USA, Spain, and UK emerged as the predominant contributing nations. Predominantly, articles found their publication venue in "Pathology Research and Practice." Notably, the author with the highest number of publications and most influence is Warnakulasuriya S. The top 3 keywords include "Proliferative Verrucous Leucoplakia," "Squamous-Cell Carcinoma," "Oral Leucoplakia," and "Potentially Malignant Disorders."
    CONCLUSION: In this investigation, statistical analysis and network visualisation were conducted to reveal the research progress, trends, and trending topics on PVL via a thorough bibliometric analysis. We found that current publications comprise mainly case reports, there is a significant research need to explore the molecular mechanisms, specific diagnostic criteria, and effective management options for PVL. Our work should serve as a key reference and a directional guide for future research in this domain.

      This study aims to examine the studies on nursing informatics in Türkiye using the bibliometric analysis method. Study data was obtained using Web of Science between 05-12 October 2023. As a result of the screening, 71 studies on nursing informatics in the field of nursing in Türkiye were found and 46 studies were included in the analysis. It was determined that 76.60% of the studies were research articles, most studies were published in the journal Computers Informatics Nursing and most studies were published in 2022. The most publications was determined as Akdeniz University. The most used keyword was "Omaha System", the total number of citations is 276, and the h-index is 9.

       Background: Acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) injury is a common orthopaedic condition accounting for over 40 % of all shoulder injuries. The purpose of this study is to assess the research trends and characteristics of the top 50 cited articles on ACJ instability.
    Methods: A systematic search was conducted in Web of Science to identify articles primarily related to ACJ injury or instability. Characteristics including citation number, country of origin, journal and institution of publication, impact factor, authorship, level of evidence, patient demographics, and study type were analyzed and recorded.
    Results: Research output on ACJ instability has been steadily increasing, with the top 50 cited studies predominantly presenting Level IV evidence. These studies primarily focused on treatment outcomes which included predominantly male patients and exhibited a large variation in citation counts. The American Journal of Sports Medicine was the most productive journal, and the USA was the most productive nation.
    Conclusion: There is an increasing number of publications in the ACJ instability literature, primarily concentrated in a few institutions and journals, and focusing mainly on treatment outcomes. A significant portion of these publications are of low scientific quality, and there is a notable lack of research on outcomes for females.

       Aim: The aim of this study was to identify and appraise the bibliometric properties of top 100 most-cited articles on regenerative periodontics surgery (RPS).
    Materials and Methods: The bibliometric research technique was conducted using a dataset comprising the 100 highly cited articles obtained from Elsevier's Scopus database on RPS. Information regarding the growth of articles by year, number of citations, citations per year, study design, study field, modalities, journals, authors, and countries were extracted for each article. Microsoft Excel (v.16) was utilized for data evaluation and tabulation. These articles on RPS were published over a span of 45 years, from 1975 to 2019, with citation metrics ranging from 144 to 820. Out of the 422 participating authors, 82% contributed to a single article.
    Results: The 100 most cited articles on RPS were published in 45 years from 1975 to 2019 and number of citations ranged from 144 to 820. Out of the 422 participating authors, 82% contributed in a single article.. The study design with the highest number of cited articles was laboratory/animal studies. Others/not specified was the preferred modality, followed by infrabony modality. The Journal of Periodontology published about one-fourth of the articles, with W. V. Giannobile emerging as the most productive author. Among the 100 most-cited articles on RPS, authors from 25 different countries contributed, with the United States producing half of the articles (n = 51). Bibliometric investigation revealed that the most cited papers published before 2000 had higher citation counts due to their longer period of exposure. The ratio of authors per article increased after the year 2000.
    Conclusions: Infrabony emerges as a trending topic in RPS, with laboratory/animal studies, clinical trials, and literature reviews being the most frequently employed study designs.

       Background: Research on intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) has recently gained attention. However, no bibliometric analysis was performed in the ICP research field. Therefore, the present study aimed to use bibliometric analysis to analyze the current research hotspots and identify global research status in ICP to reference for future research directions.
    Methods: We comprehensively searched the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database from its inception to December 31, 2023. Articles and reviews related to ICP were downloaded as plain text file records. We used the VOSviewer and Citespace to perform the bibliometric analysis and visualization. The main bibliometric features were tabulated and calculated.
    Results: A total of 1092 documents, including 921 original articles and 171 reviews, were identified in WoSCC. These publications were published in 395 journals by 4751 authors from 1250 institutions and 61 countries/regions. The global publication numbers exhibited a gradual upward trend. China, the United States, and the United Kingdom were top contributors to scientific research on ICP. King's College London, London Imperial Coll Sci Technol & Med, and Sichuan University were the most productive institutions. Catherine Williamson had published the most papers and received the most total citations. The most productive journal was Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine. The most cited paper was Beuers et al. in the Journal of Hepatology (2009). Citation burst terms showed that "risk factors" and "perinatal outcomes" were hotspots. "Inflammation", "risk factors", "perinatal outcomes", and "bile acid" have gained attention in more recent research.
    Conclusion: The present study comprehensively summarizes the global research status and research trends in ICP. Our study identifies hotspots, collaborative networks, and trends that will provide new insights and guidance for further research in the field.

       OBJECTIVE: Transition of the United States Medical Licensing Examination Step 1 to a pass/fail structure has focused attention on medical student research in residency application. Previous studies have explored how various factors affect the neurosurgery match success, but none have focused on applicants from schools without a neurosurgery residency program.
    METHODS: The authors compiled a list of neurosurgery residents matched from 2016 to 2022 from schools lacking a neurosurgery program. They gathered demographic and bibliometric data, focusing on academic productivity before residency. The distinction between the top 40 and non-top 40 programs used the 5-year institutional h-index (ih[5]-index) of departments.
    RESULTS: Between 2016 and 2022, the gross number of students entering neurosurgery from schools without a home program rose from 15 to 26 in 2021, declining to 23 in 2022. The range of matched applicants per school was 0 to 10. The median number of publications per resident increased from 2 in 2016 to 5 in 2022 (p < 0.001). The lowest and highest numbers of publications by applicants were 0 and 40, respectively, with 22.5% reporting no publications. The lowest and highest h-indices by applicants were 0 and 11, respectively, with nearly one-third (31.2%) possessing an h-index of 0. Applicants from schools lacking a neurosurgery residency program who matched into top 40 programs had a publication range of 0-11, with a higher median of 3 compared with those who did not (median 2, range 0-8). While no significant differences were found in publication numbers (p = 0.084), a difference in h-index was observed (p = 0.024) between the two groups. Publications significantly correlated with the h-index, with each additional publication increasing the h-index by 0.19 (p < 0.001, adjusted R2 = 0.3348).
    CONCLUSIONS: Median publication counts have increased in this cohort, but they do not distinguish top 40 program matches. Conversely, the h-index, correlating with publication quantity and journal impact factor, does.

       OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to report the results of a bibliometric analysis on the modern corpus of literature pertaining to endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV). Prior bibliometrics studies on ETV have focused on highly cited articles, but an advanced bibliometric analysis has not yet been conducted.
    METHODS: The authors queried the Web of Science (WoS) for (ALL = (endoscopic third ventriculostomy)) OR (ALL = (ETV) AND ALL = (neurosurgery)). Articles or reviews published in English were included. Articles, along with their metadata, were exported. Statistical, bibliometric, and network analyses were performed using the Bibliometrix R package and various Python packages. Reference publication year spectroscopy (RPYS), a method that analyzes the frequency with which references are cited in terms of these references' publication years, was employed to explore the historical roots of the field.
    RESULTS: Between 1994 and 2023, 1663 documents were identified (1382 articles) from 5457 authors. The mean annual growth rate of publications was 4.9%. International coauthorship increased 4-fold over this time period and was noted for 18.95% of published studies from 2011 to 2023. We observed that Child's Nervous System published the most articles, Journal of Neurosurgery (JNS) articles were cited most frequently, and JNS: Pediatrics articles had the highest impact. Female coauthorship increased from < 1% of published studies before 2000 to 19% by 2022, with an increase in female first authorship from 2% in 2005 to 22% in 2022 and at least 1 female coauthor rising from 3% in 2000 to 68% in 2022. Likewise, minority authorship has increased, as in the early ETV literature > 75% of authors were White while currently only 43% are White. The authors of this study also identified the most prolific authors on the subject. Early in the publication record, etiological and technical terms such as "aqueductal stenosis" and "technical note" predominated. More recently, "complications," "failure," "success," "neuroendoscopy," and "choroid plexus cauterization" were prominent. Utilizing RPYS, the authors identified 32 articles that comprise the foundational articles on ETV, published between 1966 and 2010.
    CONCLUSIONS: Interest in ETV increased in the 1990s with the advent of advanced endoscopic technologies-particularly digital video. The focus of research has shifted from etiology to outcomes, complication management, and technical mastery.

      Immunotherapy is a promising strategy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), a common and aggressive malignancy with poor prognosis. However, the literature lacks a comprehensive and objective overview of the current research status and trends of immunotherapy-related fields in NPC. We performed a bibliometric analysis of 513 original articles and reviews in English on immunotherapy for NPC from the Web of Science Core Collection database, using CiteSpace and Bibliometrix software tools. We visualized the development trend of publications, the distribution of countries/regions, the co-occurrence of keywords, the collaboration and citation of authors, the citation of journals, the evolution of topics, and the thematic map. We found that the publication volume increased sharply after 2017, with China as the main contributor and leader, the US as an important partner, and the Netherlands as a potential innovator. The research focused on immune checkpoint inhibitors and cell therapy, which were also the hotspots of clinical trials. Tumor microenvironment, immune infiltration, multicenter studies, and novel immunotherapy were the frontier topics and the key challenges for future research. CD137l-DC, lymphoma, and chimeric antigen receptor were emerging topics with good prospects. Our study provides a valuable insight into the research status and trends of immunotherapy for NPC, which may guide future research directions and clinical applications.

      Nursing informatics has evolved rapidly since its inception. Despite its growth, there remains a gap in comprehensive bibliometric analyses of the field's development and themes. The study aimed to provide an overview of the evolution and current status of nursing informatics by conducting a bibliometric analysis of the literature from 1989 to 2023. Utilizing the Science Citation Index Expanded edition of the Web of Science Core Collection, 483 original English-language articles were analyzed using Bibliometrix 4.1. The results revealed a steady increase in publications, with the United States as the leading contributor. Thematic analysis indicates a shift from basic informatics integration to advanced technologies like artificial intelligence, reflecting the dynamic nature and expanding scope of nursing informatics. These findings highlight the need for ongoing research, enhanced digital literacy, and interdisciplinary collaboration, emphasizing the field's critical role in advancing healthcare in the digital age.

       Objective: This study aimed to explore the global and future research trends in acupuncture interventions for stroke between 2000 and 2022 using bibliometric analysis.
    Method: A bibliometric analysis of literature from 2000 to 2022 in the Web of Science Core Collection was conducted in this study. The analysis utilized CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Scimago Graphica software to identify the major contributors to publications, including authors, countries, institutions, journals, references, and keywords.
    Results: The bibliometric analysis yielded a total of 860 publications. There was a gradual increase in the number of publications over the study period. China published the most articles. Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine was the journal with the greatest number of publications. The most frequently used keywords were "acupuncture," "stroke," and "electroacupuncture."
    Conclusion: These analysis uncovers the research trends in acupuncture for stroke spanning 2000 to 2022 and points to prospective research frontiers. This study provides a deeper and more thorough understanding of the connotations of acupuncture for stroke and guidance and support for future research in this field.

       Background: The burden on society grows as the number of individuals with cognitive impairment rises. Numerous research have discovered a connection between cognitive impairment and the gut-brain axis, which is useful in examining the pathophysiology of cognitive impairment and potential therapeutic approaches. As a result, this article explores developments and trends in the research concerning the gut-brain axis and cognitive impairment through a bibliometric analysis of the contributions made by various countries/regions, institutions, authors, and journals.
    Methods: We looked for articles on gut-brain axis and cognitive impairment from 2014 to 2023 in the Web of Science Core Collection. For the descriptive analysis, figures and tables were taken using GraphPad Prism 6 and WPS Office 2024. For the visual analysis of the countries/regions, institutions, authors, and keywords, VOSviewer was utilized.
    Results: We obtained 458 publications from 1 January 2014 to 9 September 2023. The country with the most publications (175, 38.21%) was China. The country with the greatest total number of citations (3,138, 17.22%) was the United States of America. The highest number of articles (15, 3.26%) was issued by Zhejiang University. The most published first author is Karsas M. In this field, Nutrients have published the most articles (24). The most often occurring keywords include "Alzheimer's disease," "cognitive impairment," "gut microbiota," "inflammation," "diet," etc. "Stroke," "tau," "probiotics," "exercise," "fecal microbiota transplantation," etc. emerged later.
    Conclusion: An increasing amount of research has focused on the connection between cognitive impairment and the gut-brain axis. In this area, the United States of America and China have both made significant contributions. The author team's collaboration has to be improved. Our study contributes to understanding the field's current state and predicting its future trend.

       Background: Vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) manifests in memory impairment, mental slowness, executive dysfunction, behavioral changes, and visuospatial abnormalities, significantly compromising the quality of daily life for patients and causing inconvenience to caregivers. Neuroimaging serves as a crucial approach to evaluating the extent, location, and type of vascular lesions in patients suspected of VCI. Nevertheless, there is still a lack of comprehensive bibliometric analysis to discern the research status and emerging trends concerning VCI neuroimaging.
    Objective: This study endeavors to explore the collaboration relationships of authors, countries, and institutions, as well as the research hotspots and frontiers of VCI neuroimaging by conducting a bibliometric analysis.
    Methods: We performed a comprehensive retrieval within the Core Collection of Web of Science, spanning from 2000 to 2023. After screening the included literature, CiteSpace and VOSviewer were utilized for a visualized analysis aimed at identifying the most prolific author, institution, and journal, as well as extracting valuable information from the analysis of references.
    Results: A total of 1,024 publications were included in this study, comprising 919 articles and 105 reviews. Through the analysis of keywords and references, the research hotspots involve the relationship between neuroimaging of cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) and VCI, the diagnosis of VCI, and neuroimaging methods pertinent to VCI. Moreover, potential future research directions encompass CSVD, functional and structural connectivity, neuroimaging biomarkers, and lacunar stroke.
    Conclusion: The research in VCI neuroimaging is constantly developing, and we hope to provide insights and references for future studies by delving into the research hotspots and frontiers within this field.

       BACKGROUND: The relationship between frailty and neoplasms has attracted increasing attention from researchers in recent years. This study aims to identify current research hotspots and status in this field through bibliometric and visualization analysis.
    METHODS: Literature on the relationship between frailty and neoplasms, meeting the inclusion criteria, was collected from the Core Collection. Bibliometric analysis and visualization were performed using WoS, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace.
    RESULTS: Our study included 7410 documents on frailty and neoplasms, authored by 43,605 researchers from 9478 institutions across 115 countries, and published in 2067 journals. The USA emerged as the most productive and influential country in this field, with 3059 publications and 89,319 citations. The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and Mayo Clinic were recognized as the most productive institution and the institution with the highest citation count, respectively. The Journal of Geriatric Oncology was the leading publisher. Kirsten K Ness and James L Kirkland were identified as the most productive and most cited authors, respectively. Cluster analysis identified five key areas: body condition and nutrition, quality of life, frailty, mortality and care, and the elderly and frailty.
    CONCLUSION: The relationship between frailty and neoplasms remains a contentious and frequently discussed topic. Our findings indicate that research primarily focuses on cancer, the elderly, clinical trials, adverse health outcomes, frailty assessment, and nutrition.

       INTRODUCTION: Bibliometrics, a statistical method assessing the influence of scholarly works, was employed to analyze the evolution of endoscopic surgery for craniosynostosis.
    METHODS: This comprehensive review followed PRISMA guidelines, sourcing data from PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science, focusing on clinical and surgical outcomes up to December 2023. We identified 1409 records, with 83 papers meeting inclusion criteria.
    RESULTS: The majority of studies originated from the Americas (79%), predominantly from the United States (75.9%). The typical study design was retrospective cohort studies (62%), involving a total of 8,175 patients with median research duration of 8 years. Citation metrics indicated an average count of 38.9 per paper, with notable contributions from several key authors. A distinct increase in research was observed in recent years, particularly from 2011 onwards, peaking in 2022 and 2023. The top 10 most cited papers, largely emanating from the U.S., had a higher median patient number (103) compared to the overall median (53), suggesting their significant impact. These papers were primarily published in journals with higher impact factors and citation indicators. The most cited research was notably published in the Journal of Neurosurgery-Pediatrics.
    CONCLUSION: This analysis provides a comprehensive view of the field, highlighting the growing trend and clinical importance of endoscopic approaches in craniosynostosis, offering a valuable resource for future research and clinical practice.

       Background/purpose: Telemedicine has gained the popularity during COVID-19 pandemic. "Teledentistry" as the dental application of telemedicine was also with increased attention. The bibliometric analysis was employed to examine the global research trends and the current implementation status of teledentistry.
    Materials and methods: Titles and subjects were searched in the Web of Science database by using the keywords "teledentistry OR oral telemedicine OR dental telemedicine OR telemedicine in dentistry" in the category of Dentistry, Oral Surgery & Medicine. Documents were collected from the establishment date up to December 31, 2023. Microsoft Excel was used for the descriptive and statistical analyses. The data were exhibited with visualization by VOSviewer.
    Results: A total of 146 articles were identified for bibliometric analysis. An upward trend in the number of publications was evident. The statistical analysis indicated a notable increased teledentistry publications affected by COVID-19 pandemic (P < 0.01). The applications of teledentistry were mainly related to clinical practice (89.73%), such as oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, dental caries, oral mucosal lesions, and dental emergencies. For geographic distributions, the United States lead with 46 publications (34%) by corresponding authors listed in the article. The keyword network analysis highlighted the prominent research areas and the changes influenced by the pandemic and technological development, respectively.
    Conclusion: This bibliometric study provided an overview of the progress, trends and current directions for teledentistry in the fields of dentistry, oral surgery and medicine.

       Background/purpose: Artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping clinical practice in dentistry. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of global trends and research hotspots on the application of AI to dentistry.
    Materials and methods: Studies on AI in dentistry published between 2000 and 2023 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. Bibliometric parameters were extracted and bibliometric analysis was conducted using VOSviewer, Pajek, and CiteSpace software.
    Results: A total of 651 publications were identified, 88.7 % of which were published after 2019. Publications originating from the United States and China accounted for 34.5 % of the total. The Charité Medical University of Berlin was the institution with the highest number of publications, and Schwendicke and Krois were the most active authors in the field. The Journal of Dentistry had the highest citation count. The focus of AI in dentistry primarily centered on the analysis of imaging data and the dental diseases most frequently associated with AI were periodontitis, bone fractures, and dental caries. The dental AI applications most frequently discussed since 2019 included neural networks, medical devices, clinical decision support systems, head and neck cancer, support vector machine, geometric deep learning, and precision medicine.
    Conclusion: Research on AI in dentistry is experiencing explosive growth. The prevailing research emphasis and anticipated future development involve the establishment of medical devices and clinical decision support systems based on innovative AI algorithms to advance precision dentistry. This study provides dentists with valuable insights into this field.

      To comprehensively assess the impact of K-12 engineering education research (K-12 EER) and provide insights to stakeholders and policymakers, this study uses the scientometric analysis software CiteSpace to evaluate recent advances in K-12 EER. A search of 885 articles from the Web of Science Core Collection was conducted. This study analyzed publication trends, authors, countries, and research institutions to determine the trajectory of the K-12 EER. In addition, keyword co-occurrence and clustering maps were generated to identify major hotspots, and keyword burst detection was used to demonstrate development trends. The analysis reveals that global interest in the K-12 EER is growing, and the results are accumulating rapidly. However, cooperation between universities, institutions, experts, and scholars must be strengthened. Current significant topics in K-12 EER focus on the practical form of engineering education, its impact on learners, the centrality of engineering design, and teachers' professional development. Research frontiers primarily revolve around the nature of engineering. Future research efforts should promote the systematic integration of K-12 engineering education through the learning process, develop comprehensive measurement tools to assess its impact on learners, and expand research on teachers' professional development in K-12 engineering education.

       SCOPE: Lactoferrin (LF) is an iron-bound protein with a molecular weight of about 80 kDa. LF has many biological functions such as antibacterial, antiviral, immunomodulatory, and anticancer. The purpose of this study is to explore the research trend of LF through bibliometric analysis.
    METHODS AND RESULTS: The search is conducted in the Web of Science Core Collection database, and then the publications information of LF related literature is exported. Based on CiteSpace and VOSviewer software, countries, institutions, authors, journals, keywords, and so on are analyzed. Since 1987, a total of 9382 literature have been included, and the number of papers related to LF has increased year by year. These publications come mainly from 124 countries and 725 institutions. Of the 1256 authors analyzed, Valenti Piera is the one with the most publications. The burst strength of gut microbiota, antioxidant, nanoparticles, and in vitro digestion are 21.3, 15.63, 23.03, and 13.51, respectively. They represent the frontier of research in this field and are developing rapidly.
    CONCLUSION: This study shows that LF has important research value. The study of LF nanoparticles and the effects of LF on the gut microbiota are an emerging field that helps to explore new research directions.

       BACKGROUND: Rewards can both validate and promote the stature of a researcher in their field. Research has been mixed on the role of gender as a predictor of receiving scholarly awards, but much of it lacks control for research excellence, and awards in interdisciplinary associations have been neglected. This study fills these gaps for suicidology.
    METHODS: Bibliometric data from the Web of Science was utilized for this study. To control for research excellence the analysis is restricted to the 116 most highly prolific researchers, each with 70 or more works published on suicide, from the Web of Science. The research awards in suicidology, given by three different interdisciplinary associations, include the Louis I. Dublin Award, the Morselli Medal, and the Stengel Research Award. The link between gender and receipt of a major award is adjusted for possible mediators including long-term research productivity (h-index), years of experience, and organizational prestige.
    RESULTS: While the percentage of women winning awards is less than that of men, we find that there is no significant difference between the genders. The quality of research and years of experience predict the receipt of each award.
    CONCLUSION: Based on a bibliometric analysis, women are not at a disadvantage in receiving research awards in suicidology. These results are consistent with recent research on gender and awards in economics, mathematics, and psychology.

      Fisheries have garnered attention from researchers throughout the last several decades. This sector's contribution has been recognised globally, leading to exponential growth in the number of research studies published in this area. Among all the dimensions from which this field has been explored, a critical theme under focus has been the drivers in the fisheries domain. Therefore, this study aims to provide a wholesome view of such studies that have explored drivers in the context of fisheries using bibliometric analysis and text-mining tools. Based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) approach, 322 studies on the theme were extracted from the Scopus and Web of Science databases. The studies extracted were analysed using VOSviewer and Orange software. The analysis uncovered the top journals and publishers in this domain and revealed the hidden patterns in the existing literature. The researchers posit that rather than judging the growth solely based on the number of citations and publications over the period, focus should be concentrated towards identifying themes that have gained immense attention from researchers over the years. The results indicate a shifting trend in recent times, centered on topics related to sustainability and climate change, among many more. The findings have important implications for researchers to make valuable contributions in this domain.

       Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a persistent inflammatory disease caused by an autoimmune response that predominantly affects multiple organs and systems. Growing evidence highlights the critical role of precision-targeted therapies in the management of SLE. Surprisingly, only a handful of bibliometric studies have thoroughly assessed this area. This study attempts to assess the global landscape of literature output and research trends related to precision-targeted therapy for SLE.
    Method: Publications related to precision-targeted therapy for SLE from 2003 to 2023 were searched in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. VOSviewers, CiteSpace and the R package "bibliometrix" were used to perform this bibliometric analysis.
    Results: A total of 3700 papers were retrieved, showing a steady annual increase in publications from 2003 to 2022. The United States led the field with the highest number of papers (36.1 %) and secured the top position in terms of citation frequency (59,889) and H-index (115). Anhui Medical University System claimed the top spot with an impressive output of 70 papers. Principal investigators Tsokos, George C. C., and Lu, Qianjin led the research effort. Among the journals, Frontiers in Immunology stood out, publishing the highest number of articles with 191. In particular, precision-targeted therapy for SLE has become a major research focus in recent years, covering aspects such as T cells, B cells, oxidative stress, remission, and PHASE-III.
    Conclusion: This bibliometric study of ours systematically analyses research trends in precision targeted therapy for systemic lupus erythematosus, and this information identifies the research frontiers and hot directions in recent years and will serve as a reference for scientists working on targeted therapies.

       Background: Dexmedetomidine, an α2-adrenergic receptor (α2-AR) agonist, is extensively used in clinical and animal studies owing to its sedative, analgesic, and anxiolytic effects. The diverse range of research domains associated with dexmedetomidine poses challenges in defining pivotal research directions. Therefore, this study aimed to conduct a qualitative and quantitative bibliometric study in the field of dexmedetomidine over the past decade to establish current research trends and emerging frontiers.
    Methods: Relevant publications in the field of dexmedetomidine between 2014 and 2023 were extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection database. The bibliometric analysis, incorporating statistical and visual analyses, was conducted using CiteSpace (6.1.R6) and R (4.3.1).
    Results: The present study encompassed a total of 5,482 publications, exhibiting a consistent upward trend over the past decade. The United States and its institutions had the highest centrality. Ji, Fuhai, and Ebert, Thomas J. were identified as the most productive author and the most cited author, respectively. As anticipated, the most cited journal was Anesthesiology. Moreover, cluster analysis of cited references and co-occurrence of keywords revealed that recent studies were primarily focused on sedation, delirium, and opioid-free anesthesia. Finally, a timeline view of keywords clusters and keywords burst demonstrated that primary research frontiers were stress response, neuroinflammation, delirium, opioid-free anesthesia, peripheral nerve block, and complications.
    Conclusion: Current research trends and directions are focused on sedation, delirium, and opioid-free anesthesia, as evidenced by our results. The frontier of future research is anticipated to encompass basic investigations into dexmedetomidine, including stress response and neuroinflammation, as well as clinical studies focusing on delirium, opioid-free anesthesia, peripheral nerve block, and associated complications.

      CRISPR has revolutionized illness detection by using precision gene editing to identify specific sequences in recent years. Using the Scopus database, this study performs a comprehensive bibliometric analysis, looking at academic papers on CRISPR that were published between 1992 and 2023. After screening a dataset of 1407 articles using Zotero, trends in annual publishing, citation patterns, author affiliations, and keyword co-occurrence are revealed using analysis tools such as VOSviewer, RStudio, and MS Excel. According to the report, there was only one CRISPR publication in 1992. By 2017, there were a meager 64 papers. Nonetheless, there is a notable upsurge between 2018 and 2023. Leading nations involved in CRISPR-based illness detection research include Germany, the United States, China, India, and the United Kingdom. Chongqing University Three Gorges Hospital, Chongqing University Medical University, and Chongqing University Bioengineering College are a few of the top institutions. With the greatest publication numbers (1688 and 1616) and strong total link strengths (TLS) of 42 and 77, respectively, authors Liu, C., and Li, Y., stand out.        Background: Recently, male fertility preservation before cancer treatment has become more prevalent. The research in this field has progressed over time, with some studies having a major impact and providing guidance for further research. However, the trends and hotspots of research on fertility preservation in male cancer patients may have changed; exploring them is essential for relevant research progress.
    Design: We extracted relevant studies from the Web of Science Core Collection database, capturing information on the countries of study, affiliations, authors, keywords, as well as co-citations of references and journals. To identify publication trends, research strengths, key subjects, prominent topics, and emerging areas, we conducted a bibliometric analysis using CiteSpace.
    Results: We included 3201 articles on fertility preservation in male cancer patients published over January 1999 to December 2023 were included. Although the relevant research growth rate was slow initially, the number of publications increased annually. Of all study countries, the United States, Germany, and Japan reported the earliest studies; the United States published the highest number of relevant studies. The US institutions remained at the forefront for all 25 years, and the US researcher Ashok Agarwal published the most articles. Literature co-citation analyses indicated a transformation in the study participants; they comprised a younger demographic (i.e., a large number of adolescent male patients underwent fertility preservation); moreover, fertility preservation techniques evolved from sperm cryopreservation to testicular tissue cryopreservation. Research on reproductive outcomes of sperm cryopreservation was the recent hotspot in male fertility preservation research, and the impact of immunotherapy and checkpoint inhibitors on male fertility requires further research.
    Conclusions: Male fertility preservation will be a major future research focus, with closer connections and collaborations between countries and organizations. Our results present the historical data on the development of research on male fertility preservation in cancer patients, providing relevant insights for future research and development in this study area.

       BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer (PCa) is highly prevalent among males worldwide. The investigation of exosomes in PCa has emerged as a dynamic and important research area. To visually depict the prominent research areas and evolutionary patterns of exosomes in PCa, we performed a comprehensive analysis via bibliometric methods.
    METHODS: Studies were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. CiteSpace, VOSviewers, and the R package "bibliometrix" were employed to analyze the relationships and collaborations among countries/regions, organizations, authors, journals, references, and keywords.
    RESULTS: Over the past 20 years (2003-2022), 995 literatures on exosomes in PCa have been collected. The findings indicate a consistent upward trend in annual publications with the United States being the leading contributor. Cancers is widely recognized as the most prominent journal in this area. In total, 5936 authors have contributed to these publications, with Alicia Llorente being the most prolific. The primary keywords associated with research hotspots include "liquid biopsy", "identification", "growth", "microRNAs", and "tumor-derived exosomes".
    CONCLUSION: Our analysis reveals that investigating the intrinsic mechanisms of exosomes in PCa pathogenesis and exploring the potential of exosomes as biomarkers of PCa constitute the principal focal points in this domain of research.

      Diabetic foot problems are among the most debilitating complications of diabetes mellitus. These problems incur significant economic costs and reduce quality of life. The integration of thermography technology in the screening and management of diabetic foot problems has been proven to be successful in recent years. By detecting changes in temperature, thermography helps identify early infections and assists in patient monitoring. These early successes have inspired more research and publications in this field. To date, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of thermography-related research on diabetic foot using the Scopus database has not been conducted. This bibliometric analysis aims to fill this gap by reviewing the Scopus database from its inception until 2023 to examine the literature on thermography-related research on diabetic foot. A total of 342 articles met the selection criteria and were included in this analysis. The number of articles in this field remained low until the 2010s, when there was a sudden surge of interest that prompted numerous publications. Authors from the USA contributed the highest number of articles and had the greatest scholarly impact in this field. Despite the major contribution from the USA, there were numerous collaborations between various countries, underscoring the importance of international collaboration in advancing research and exchanging knowledge.

       Objective: The vascular chip has emerged as a significant research tool, garnering increasing interest and exploration. We utilize bibliometric techniques to analyze literature from the Web of Science (WOS) database, focusing on core journal publications. The aim is to provide a systematic review and prospective outlook on research trends within the vascular chip field, delving into current dynamics and highlighting areas for further investigation.
    Methods: We retrieved articles, proceedings papers, and early-access publications related to vascular chips published between January 2012 and December 2022 reported by Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) in 2023. Scientific bibliometric analysis was performed using R-bibliometrix, CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Microsoft Excel software tools.
    Results: A total of 456 publications were obtained, including 444 articles, 11 proceedings papers, and one early-access article. These originated from 167 academic journals and 751 research institutions across 44 countries/regions. The United States contributed the majority of publications (41%), with Harvard University leading in contributions (6.6%). Lab on a Chip was the top journal in terms of publications. Notably, authors Jeon NL and Huh D wielded significant influence, with the former being the most prolific author and the latter garnering the most citations. Recent research has predominantly focused on angiogenesis in relation to endothelial cells.
    Conclusion: This scientometric investigation comprehensively surveys literature on vascular chips over past decade, providing valuable insights for scholars in the field. Our study reveals global increases in publications, with endothelial cells and angiogenesis being primary research focuses. This trend will persist, drawing continued attention from researchers.

      This study examines the influence of National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding on the publication choices of dermatologists, particularly in terms of journal tiers and pay-to-publish (P2P) versus free-to-publish (F2P) models. Utilizing k-means clustering for journal ranking based on SCImago Journal Rank, h-index, and Impact Factor, journals were categorized into three tiers and 54,530 dermatology publications from 2021 to 2023 were analyzed. Authors were classified as Top NIH Funded or Non-Top NIH Funded according to Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research rankings. The study finds significant differences in publication patterns, with Top NIH Funded researchers in Tier I journals demonstrating a balanced use of P2P and F2P models, while they preferred F2P models in Tier II and III journals. Non-Top NIH Funded authors, however, opted for P2P models more frequently across all tiers. These data suggest NIH funding allows researchers greater flexibility to publish in higher-tier journals despite publication fees, while prioritizing F2P models in lower-tier journals. Such a pattern indicates that funding status plays a critical role in strategic publication decisions, potentially impacting research visibility and subsequent funding. The study's dermatology focus limits broader applicability, warranting further research to explore additional factors like geographic location, author gender, and research design.

       PURPOSE: The utilization of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in studying the mechanisms and treatment of chronic pain has gained significant popularity. However, there is currently a dearth of literature conducting bibliometric analysis on fMRI studies focused on chronic pain.
    METHODS: All the literature included in this study was obtained from the Science Citation Index Expanded of Web of Science Core Collection. We used CiteSpace and VOSviewer to analyze publications, authors, countries or regions, institutions, journals, references and keywords. Additionally, we evaluated the timeline and burst analysis of keywords, as well as the timeline and burst analysis of references. The search was conducted from 2004 to 2023 and completed within a single day on October 4th, 2023.
    RESULTS: A total of 1,327 articles were retrieved. The annual publication shows an overall increasing trend. The United States has the highest number of publications and the main contributing institution is Harvard University. The journal PAIN produces the most articles. In recent years, resting-state fMRI, the prefrontal cortex, nucleus accumbens, thalamus, and migraines have been researched hotspots of fMRI studies on chronic pain.
    CONCLUSIONS: This study provides an in-depth perspective on fMRI for chronic pain research, revealing key points, research hotspots and research trends, which offers valuable ideas for future research activities. It concludes with a summary of advances in clinical practice in this area, pointing out the need for critical evaluation of these findings in the light of guidelines and expert recommendations. It is anticipated that further high-quality research outputs will be generated in the future, which will facilitate the utilization of fMRI in clinical decision-making for chronic pain.

       Introduction: Extensive research efforts have been dedicated to elucidating the intricate pathways by which gastrointestinal microbiota and their metabolites exert influence on the processes of bone formation. Nonetheless, a notable gap exists in the literature concerning a bibliometric analysis of research trends at the nexus of gastrointestinal microbiota and bone metabolism.
    Methods: To address this scholarly void, the present study employs a suite of bibliometric tools including online platforms, CiteSpace and VOSviewer to scrutinize the pertinent literature in the realm of gastrointestinal microbiota and bone metabolism.
    Results and discussion: Examination of the temporal distribution of publications spanning from 2000 to 2023 reveals a discernible upward trajectory in research output, characterized by an average annual growth rate of 19.2%. Notably, China and the United States emerge as primary contributors. Predominant among contributing institutions are Emory University, Harvard University, and the University of California. Pacifici R from Emory University contributed the most research with 15 publications. In the realm of academic journals, Nutrients emerges as the foremost publisher, followed closely by Frontiers in Microbiology and PLOS One. And PLOS One attains the highest average citations of 32.48. Analysis of highly cited papers underscores a burgeoning interest in the therapeutic potential of probiotics or probiotic blends in modulating bone metabolism by augmenting host immune responses. Notably, significant research attention has coalesced around the therapeutic interventions of probiotics, particularly Lactobacillus reuteri, in osteoporosis, as well as the role of gastrointestinal microbiota in the etiology and progression of osteoarthritis. Keyword analysis reveals prevalent terms including gut microbiota, osteoporosis, bone density, probiotics, inflammation, SCFAs, metabolism, osteoarthritis, calcium absorption, obesity, double-blind, prebiotics, mechanisms, postmenopausal women, supplementation, risk factors, oxidative stress, and immune system. Future research endeavors warrant a nuanced exploration of topics such as inflammation, obesity, SCFAs, postmenopausal osteoporosis, skeletal muscle, oxidative stress, double-blind trials, and pathogenic mechanisms. In summary, this study presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of global research on the interplay between gastrointestinal microbiota and bone metabolism, offering valuable insights for scholars, particularly nascent researchers, embarking on analogous investigations within this domain.

      Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia, producing a deterioration in the activities of daily living which can lead to the need for care provision. COVID-19 impacted their quality of life and in this care delivery. This study aimed to analyse most productive and prominent authors, the journals and countries with the highest number of publications, the most cited documents and the most used keywords. Publications were retrieved from journals indexed in the Main Collection of the Web of Science (WoS) and analysed using the traditional laws of bibliometrics. A total of 376 documents were found. The WoS categories with the highest number of publications accumulated were "Geriatric Gerontology" and "Gerontology." Clarissa Giebel was the most productive (23 papers) and most cited (with 569 citations) co-author. The Journal of Alzheimer's Disease (21 papers) published the most number of documents. The manuscript "2021 Alzheimer's Disease Facts and Figures" was the most cited. Four thematic clusters related to mental health, telemedicine, care and well-being were found among the authors' keywords. Research networks exist worldwide, with the United States of America and England leading the scientific output. These results may be of interest to researchers, publishers and professionals interested in this subject, as they provide current information on publications related to this topic.

      The ChatGPT (Chat Generative Pretrained Transformer), an AI-based chatbot, has garnered significant attention in healthcare. We methodically extracted two significant English databases (PubMed and Web of Science) to examine the current state of research and potential future directions for ChatGPT in the healthcare field. Following screening, 921 publications were included in the analysis, demonstrating a sharp rise in the previous year and a peak number of publications released in October 2023. Meanwhile, we obtained 88 items and categorized them into 10 clusters, of which artificial intelligence, ChatGPT, and humans ranked among the top three in terms of frequency.

       BACKGROUNDS: Diabetic foot (DF) is a globally significant concern, with complications like diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) posing major challenges despite medical advancements. Effective nursing strategies are crucial to preventing DF progression and reducing disability risk. However, nursing research in DF care is fragmented, necessitating a comprehensive bibliometric analysis to identify key trends, influential contributors, and critical research areas.
    PURPOSE: This study explored current trends in nursing methods for DF care and their impact on patient outcomes, utilizing CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Bibliometrix to identify key contributors, influential countries, and noteworthy topics, aiming to provide valuable insights for healthcare professionals and researchers in the field.
    METHODS: Relevant publications from the Web of Science (WOS) Core Collection Science Citation Index Expanded were retrieved for the period between 2003 and 2023. We included peer-reviewed original articles or reviews related to diabetic foot (DF) and nursing. The following criteria were used for exclusion: ① conference abstracts or corrigendum documents, ② unpublished articles, ③ repeated publications, ④ unrelated articles, ⑤ case reports, and ⑥ qualitative studies. CiteSpace was employed to identify top authors, institutions, countries, keywords, co-cited authors, journals, references, and research trends. VOSviewer was used to generate a network of authors, journals, and references. Bibliometrix was utilized to create maps of cooperating countries and keyword frequency charts, as well as a Sankey diagram illustrating the relationship between authors, keywords, and countries.
    RESULTS: A total of 305 relevant articles were included in this study. The research pertaining to nursing aspects of diabetic foot care exhibited a noticeable upward trend. The analysis in this study revealed that "amputation" held the highest centrality, indicating a critical area of focus in nursing interventions to prevent severe outcomes. "Diabetic foot ulcer" ranked first in terms of citation rate, emphasizing the ongoing challenges in managing DFUs through nursing care. In recent years, there was a shift in focus towards keywords such as "pressure ulcers", "burden", and "chronic wound" highlighting the evolving priorities in nursing research to address complex wound care, patient burden, and long-term management strategies.
    CONCLUSIONS: The current primary research focuses in nursing care for diabetic foot (DF) include wound management, offloading techniques, sensory protection, anti-infective treatment, education and self-management, and multidisciplinary teamwork. Future research should prioritize developing innovative nursing interventions tailored to individual patient needs, integrating advanced technologies like telemedicine and wearable devices for continuous monitoring, and exploring the psychological aspects of DFU management to improve patient adherence and outcomes. Additionally, more longitudinal studies are needed to assess the long-term effectiveness of various nursing strategies on patient quality of life.

      Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a debilitating mental health condition that poses significant risks and burdens. Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has emerged as a promising tool in investigating the neural mechanisms underlying MDD. However, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of resting-state fMRI in MDD is currently lacking. Here, we aimed to thoroughly explore the trends and frontiers of resting-state fMRI in MDD research. The relevant publications were retrieved from the Web of Science database for the period between 1998 and 2022, and the CiteSpace software was employed to identify the influence of authors, institutions, countries/regions, and the latest research trends. A total of 1501 publications met the search criteria, revealing a gradual increase in the number of annual publications over the years. China contributed the largest publication output, accounting for the highest percentage among all countries. Particularly, the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Capital Medical University, and Harvard Medical School were identified as key institutions that have made substantial contributions to this growth. Neuroimage, Biological Psychiatry, Journal of Affective Disorders, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America are among the influential journals in the field of resting-state fMRI research in MDD. Burst keywords analysis suggest the emerging research frontiers in this field are characterized by prominent keywords such as dynamic functional connectivity, cognitive control network, transcranial brain stimulation, and childhood trauma. Overall, our study provides a systematic overview into the historical development, current status, and future trends of resting-state fMRI in MDD, thus offering a useful guide for researchers to plan their future research.

      The health belief model (HBM) has gained significant scholarly attention over the past five decades. This study aims to provide a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the HBM research landscape to reveal its evolving trends and impact. The analysis utilized data from the Scopus database to explore publication patterns, influential sources and researchers, international collaborations, and thematic trends in the HBM-related literature. The findings demonstrate a substantial growth in HBM publications, with a peak of more than 11% in 2022-2023. The United States, Iran, China, the United Kingdom, and Australia are the most productive countries, and prominent HBM researchers include Lau JTF, Champion VL, and Jeihooni AK. Thematic analysis reveals a shift from broader topics of HBM to more specific areas, such as COVID-19, health behavior, and digital health interventions. The current study highlights the sustained and growing interest in HBM, its diverse applications, and the collaborative efforts of researchers worldwide to develop and refine this influential theoretical framework in public health and behavioral science.

      In the vast field of medical scientific research, few topics have managed to attract as much attention and mobilise academic resources as the use of dermal matrices in the reconstruction of soft tissue defects. In this study, we used bibliographic metrics such as co-authorship, keyword co-occurrence, and citations per document to analyse the relationship between the use of dermal matrices to reconstruct soft tissue defects caused by burns, tumours, and trauma. In addition, keyword analysis has highlighted the crucial role of technology in recent studies and the innovation brought about by the use of dermal matrices in the reconstruction of soft tissue defects. Keywords used in recent studies have revealed the critical role of technology in the development of the field. We extracted a set of 1329 research papers from the Web of Science Core Collection database between 2010 and 2024 that met our criteria. Through keyword analysis, we identified technology as a significant factor in recent studies. Our results showed that there is very little collaboration between authors on the topic and that most of them are from Asia. A significant number of articles on this topic come from the USA, China, Japan, Germany, the UK, and France. We discovered the top ten most cited sources analysing the use of dermal matrices in the reconstruction of soft tissue defects. Finally, we think that this study will be beneficial for our further research.

      Hydrogels are formed of crosslinked polymer chains arranged in three-dimensional (3D) networks. These chains have good water-containing capacity and are soft and malleable. Hydrogels have good biocompatibility due to their significant water content, flexible structure, and numerous holes. These characteristics make them analogous to biological tissues. Despite the publication of 8700 literature related to hydrogel biomedical applications in the past 52 years (1973 ~ 2024), studies on the use of hydrogels in biomedicine are few. To gain a comprehensive understanding of their current development status, research trends, and prospects in the biomedical application field, it is imperative to conduct a thorough retrospective analysis. In this study, we employ bibliometric analysis and CiteSpace software to quantitatively and visually analyze articles published in this field. Firstly, we provide a quantitative analysis of authorship and institutional publications over the past 52 years to elucidate the fundamental development status regarding hydrogel biomedical applications. Secondly, we did visual studies on terms that are high-frequency, explosive, keyword clustering, and so on, to understand the directionality and evolution of the main research hotspots during each period. Notably, our findings emphasize that fabricating hydrogels into wound healing-promoting dressings emerges as a prominent hotspot within the application field. We anticipate that this paper will inspire researchers with novel ideas for advancing hydrogel applications in biomedicine.

       Purpose: The present study aims to investigate the current and future trends in poverty alleviation strategies for sustainable development, show the gaps and propose the way forward for future research.
    Methods: This research covers four decades from 1981 to 2023. We identified a corpus of 5,982 articles from the Scopus database using the bibliometric and scientometric methods. We excluded 653 to remain, with 5,329 fulfilling the conditions of non-duplicates, suitable authorship, and conform content. These documents include articles, reviews, journals, books and other publications in our study field. With the help of VOS viewer and R-Studio software, we have performed two significant tests: performance analysis and science mapping.
    Results: Despite the poverty alleviation strategies for sustainable development that emerged in 1981, it has experienced steady growth from 2000 onwards and has reached the pick in 2022 with 316 publications. The most prolific countries are China, the USA and the UK. At the same time, the most contributing authors are Liu Y, Wang Y, and Lily, both from China and Ravaillion, M from Australia. They have discussed more about poverty alleviation and poverty reduction. Furthermore, we realize that the household, remittance and land use have no connection with any item besides the government and IMF.
    Conclusion: We have underlined the countries and authors that contributed the most and revealed the challenges in poverty alleviation via thematic mapping. Therefore, we recommend that future researchers, while keeping an eye on Africa, livelihoods, gender inequality, and India, focus more on poverty alleviation, China, and sustainable development. Special attention also must focus on the household, remittance, land use, government, and IMF and find ways to improve their role in poverty alleviation strategies for sustainable development.

       Background: Gender disparity remains pervasive in orthopaedic surgery, which affects the research pursuits of orthopaedic surgeons. The purpose of this study was to characterize gender-related authorship trends of orthopaedic surgery residents, including evaluation of gender-concordant publication rates.
    Methods: An observational cross-sectional analysis of US orthopaedic surgery residency programs was performed. Information on residency programs and demographics of each cohort was collected. Publication metrics consisting of number of first and non-first author publications and H-indices were manually obtained for PGY-3 to PGY-5 residents attending the 25 programs ranked the highest for research output by Doximity. Gender of each resident and senior author was determined from institutional websites using photos, biographies, and preferred pronouns when available.
    Results: A total of 532 residents, 169 (31.8%) female and 363 (68.2%) male, were included for authorship analysis. Of them, 415 (78%) had at least one first author publication, which did not vary significantly by gender. Female residents had disproportionately fewer first author publications compared with their representation (22% vs. 31.8%, p < 0.00001). Female residents averaged fewer first and non-first author publications compared with male residents (2.8 vs. 4.6, p = 0.0003; 6.4 vs. 10, p = 0.0001 respectively). Despite fewer publications overall, a greater subset of publications by female residents were written in collaboration with a female senior author compared with publications by male residents (p < 0.0001). Male residents had a higher average H-index of 5.4 vs. 3.9 among female residents (p = 0.00007).
    Conclusion: Despite similar rates of first author publication among male and female residents, female residents had fewer publications overall, lower H-indices, and disproportionately fewer first author publications than would be expected given their representation. Findings from this study suggest that gender disparity in orthopaedic surgery extends to differences in research productivity as early as in residency. This may have negative implications on the career advancement of female orthopaedic surgeons. Additional work is needed to identify and understand biases in research productivity and career advancement, to promote more equitable strategies for academic achievement.

      The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are more vulnerable to many transmissible diseases, including tuberculosis (TB). This study is to identify the scientific publications related to TB in the GCC countries using topic modeling and co-word analysis. A bibliometric analytic study. The R-package, VOSviewer software, IBM SPPS, and Scopus Analytics were used to analyze performance, hotspots, knowledge structure, thematic evolution, trend topics, and inter-gulf and international cooperation on TB in the past 30 years (1993-2022). A total of 1999 publications associated with research on GCC-TB were published. The annual growth rate of documents was 7.76%. Saudi Arabia is the most highly published, followed by the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, and Bahrain. The most-cited GC country is Kingdom Saudi Arabia, followed by Kuwait. One hundred sixty research institutions contributed to the dissemination of TB-related knowledge in the GCC, where the highest publishing organizations were King Saud University (Kingdom Saudi Arabia; n = 518). The number of publications related to TB is high in GCC Countries. The current tendencies indicated that GCC scholars are increasingly focused on deep learning, chest X-ray, molecular docking, comorbid covid-19, risk factors, and Mycobacterium bovis.

       BACKGROUND: Gastrointestinal tumors, as one of the most common cancers worldwide, pose a significant threat to human health. In this context, the advent of fluorescence probe technology has offered new perspectives and methods for the diagnosis and surgical treatment of gastrointestinal tumors. However, there is currently a lack of systematic bibliometric analysis on the research concerning gastrointestinal cancer and fluorescence probes.
    METHOD: This study retrieved and comprehensively analyzed 1816 documents from the Web of Science database using the Cite Space tool, exploring the spatiotemporal distribution, author and subject category distribution, research themes, and keywords in this field.
    RESULTS: As of February 3, 2024, a total of 1816 records were retrieved, encompassing nine document types. Original research papers dominated the dataset, accounting for 89.922 %, followed by review articles at 6.773 %. We conducted a comprehensive analysis from various perspectives including countries, authors, institutions, keywords, journals, and references. Our findings reveal a strengthening trend in research on gastrointestinal cancer and fluorescent probes since 2010, with primary focus on drug delivery, endoscopy techniques, and genomic hybridization.
    CONCLUSION: In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the design, application, and quantitative analysis techniques of fluorescent probes, marking a notable frontier in this field. Our research findings offer fundamental insights and aid in identifying potential collaborators for future endeavors in this area.

       Background/purpose: The diagnosis and treatment of Sjogren's syndrome (SS) are commonly conducted by rheumatologists and stomatologists. The purpose of this study was to compare the scientometric characteristics of SS publications by rheumatologists and stomatologists.
    Materials and methods: All the papers on cheilitis were comprehensively retrieved from the Scopus database, and divided into rheumatologists and stomatologists groups.
    Results: There were 3245 and 1209 papers on SS were published by rheumatologists and stomatologists, respectively. For the most-cited top-200 papers, the total citation count was 29,764 and the h index was 108 for SS publications by rheumatologists; whereas the count is 19,891 and h index is 81 for publications by stomatologists. Interestingly, we observed that accumulated citations of the publications by stomatologists cooperated with rheumatologists were larger than those by stomatologists alone during 2012-2022. The more common keywords such as saliva, salivation, minor salivary glands, parotid gland, submandibular gland, sialography, lip, dental caries, and hyposalivation were reported by stomatologists. The more frequent keywords such as rheumatoid factor, fatigue, lymphoma, interstitial lung disease, arthralgia, Raynaud phenomenon, lymphadenopathy, and vasculitis were reported by rheumatologists.
    Conclusion: This study firstly reports the scientometric characteristics of SS publications by rheumatologists and stomatologists. The scale and citations of rheumatologists' publications greatly outweigh those of stomatologists, suggesting stomatologists can cooperate more with rheumatologists regarding SS research.

      Reducing low-value care (LVC) and improving healthcare's climate readiness are critical factors for improving the sustainability of health systems. Care practices that have been deemed low or no-value generate carbon emissions, waste and pollution without improving patient or population health. There is nascent, but growing, research and evaluation to inform practice change focused on the environmental co-benefits of reducing LVC. The objective of this study was to develop foundational knowledge of this field through a scoping review and bibliometric analysis. We searched four databases, Medline, Embase, Scopus and CINAHL, and followed established scoping review and bibliometric analysis methodology to collect and analyze the data. A total of 145 publications met the inclusion criteria and were published between 2013 and July 2023, with over 80% published since 2020. Empirical studies comprised 21%, while commentary or opinions comprised 51% of publications. The majority focused on healthcare generally (27%), laboratory testing (14%), and medications (14%). Empirical publications covered a broad range of environmental issues with general and practice-specific 'Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions', 'waste management' and 'resource use' as most common topics. Reducing practice-specific 'GHG emissions' was the most commonly reported environmental outcome. The bibliometric analysis revealed nine international collaboration networks producing work on eight key healthcare areas. The nineteen 'top' authors were primarily from the US, Australia and Canada.

       BACKGROUND: Cantharidin (CTD), a natural toxic compound from blister beetle Mylabris, has been used for cancer treatment for millenary. CTD and its analogs have become mainstream adjuvant drugs with radiotherapy and chemotherapy in clinical applications. However, the detailed pharmacology mechanism of CTD was not fully elucidated.
    METHODS: Publications of CTD were collected from the Web of Science Core Collection database from 1991 to 2023 using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Scimago Graphica software.
    RESULTS: A total of 1,611 publications of CTD were mainly published in China and the United States. The University of Newcastle has published the most researches. Mcclusey, Adam, Sakoff, Jennette, and Zhang, Yalin had the most CTD publications with higher H. Notably, CTD researches were mainly published in Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters and the Journal of Biological Chemistry. Cluster profile results revealed that protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A), human gallbladder carcinoma, Aidi injection, and cell apoptosis were the hotspots. Concentration on the pharmacology function of PP2A subunit regulation, hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, and cardiotoxicity mechanism should be strengthened in the future.
    CONCLUSION: Bibliometric analysis combined with a systemic review of CTD research first revealed that PP2A and CTD analogs were the knowledge base of CTD, and PP2A subunit regulation and toxic mechanism could be the frontiers of CTD.

      With global climate change leading to increasing intensity and frequency of droughts, as well as the growing problem of soil salinization, these factors significantly affect crop growth, yield, and resilience to adversity. Oats are a cereal widely grown in temperate regions and are rich in nutritive value; however, the scientific literature on the response of oat to drought and salt stress has not yet been analyzed in detail. This study comprehensively analyzed the response of oat to drought stress and salt stress using data from the Web of Science core database and bibliometric methods with R (version4.3.1), VOSviewer (version 1.6.19), and Citespace (version6.3.1.0) software. The number of publications shows an increasing trend in drought stress and salt stress in oat over the past 30 years. In the field of drought-stress research, China, the United States, and Canada lead in terms of literature publication, with the most academic achievements being from China Agricultural University and Canadian Agricultural Food University. The journal with the highest number of published papers is Field Crops Research. Oat research primarily focuses on growth, yield, physiological and biochemical responses, and strategies for improving drought resistance. Screening of drought-tolerant genotypes and transformation of drought-tolerant genes may be key directions for future oat drought research. In the field of salt-stress research, contributions from China, the United States, and India stand out, with the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Inner Mongolia Agricultural University producing the most significant research results. The largest number of published articles has been found in the Physiologia Plantarum journal. Current oat salt-stress research primarily covers growth, physiological and biochemical responses, and salt-tolerance mechanisms. It is expected that future oat salt research will focus more on physiological and biochemical responses, as well as gene-editing techniques. Despite achievements under single-stress conditions, combined drought and salt-stress effects on oat remain understudied, necessitating future research on their interaction at various biological levels. The purpose of this study is to provide potential theoretical directions for oat research on drought and salt stress.

      Sweetpotato is an economically important crop, and it has various advantages over other crops in addressing global food security and climate change. Although substantial articles have been published on the research of various aspects of sweetpotato biology, there are no specific reports to systematically crystallize the research achievements. The current review takes the lead in conducting a keyword-centric spatiotemporal dimensional bibliometric analysis of articles on sweetpotato research using CiteSpace software to comprehensively clarify the development status, research hotspot, and development trend in the past 30 years (1993-2022). Quantitative analysis was carried out on the publishing countries, institutions, disciplines, and scholars to understand the basic status of sweetpotato research; then, visual analysis was conducted on high-frequency keywords, burst keywords, and keyword clustering; the evolution of major research hotspots and the development trend in different periods were summarized. Finally, the three main development stages-preliminary stage (1993-2005), rapid stage (2006-2013), and diversified mature stage (2014-2022)-were reviewed and analyzed in detail. Particularly, the development needs of sweetpotato production in improving breeding efficiency, enhancing stress tolerance, coordinating high yield with high quality and high resistance, and promoting demand were discussed, which will help to comprehensively understand the development dynamics of sweetpotato research from different aspects of biological exploration.

       Background: Pharmaceutical management is a new frontier subject between pharmacy, law and management, and related research involves the whole process of drug development, production, circulation and use. With the development of medical systems and the diversification of patients' drug needs, research in the field of pharmaceutical management is becoming increasingly abundant. To clarify the development status of this field, this study conducted a bibliometric analysis of relevant literature in the field based on the knowledge graph method for the first time and explored the evolutionary trends of research hotspots and frontiers.
    Methods: Literature was obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection database. CiteSpace 6.2.R4 (Advanced), VOSViewer, Scimago Graphica, Pajek and the R programming language were used to visualize the data.
    Results: A total of 12,771 publications were included in the study. The publications in the field of pharmaceutical management show an overall increasing trend. In terms of discipline evolution, early research topics tended to involve the positioning of pharmacists and pharmaceutical care and the establishment of a management system. From 2000 to 2005, this period tended to focus on clinical pharmacy and institutional norms. With the development of globalization and the market economy, research from 2005 to 2010 began to trend to the fields of drug markets and economics. From 2010 to 2015, research was gradually integrated into health systems and medical services. With the development of information technology, after 2015, research in the field of pharmaceutical management also began to develop in the direction of digitalization and intelligence. In light of the global pandemic of COVID-19, research topics such as drug supply management, pharmaceutical care and telemedicine services under major public health events have shown increased interest since 2020.
    Conclusion: Based on the knowledge mapping approach, this study provides a knowledge landscape in the field of pharmaceutical management research. The results showed that the reform of pharmacy education, the challenge of drug management under the COVID-19 pandemic, digital transformation and the rise of telemedicine services were the hot topics in this field. In addition, the research frontier also shows the broad prospects of the integration of information technology and pharmaceutical management, the practical value of precision pharmaceutical services, the urgent need of global drug governance, and the ethical and legal issues involved in the application of artificial intelligence technology in drug design, which points out the direction for the future development of pharmaceutical practice.

       INTRODUCTION: In the past 3 decades, thyroid cancer research has surged, becoming the leading topic in clinical thyroidology. Despite this, there's a lack of data identifying key articles, authors, and journals. This study aims to provide insights for authors, physicians, and research labs by highlighting the most influential journals, authors, and research topics in thyroid cancer.
    METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted using the Scopus database, employing the medical subject heading (MeSH) terms "Thyroid" and "Cancer" in the titles, abstracts, or keywords of articles. The search was limited to English articles in academic medicine journals published between January 1993 and December 2021.
    RESULTS: The search yielded 21 472 articles across 3076 journals, authored by 13 974 senior authors. The number of journals publishing on thyroid cancer expanded from 29 in 1993 to 733 in 2021, marking an average annual growth of 14%. Article output on the topic increased from 54 in the initial year to 1580 by 2021, with an annual growth rate of 16%. A thematic analysis revealed 369 articles mentioning "BRAF" since 2004, 479 articles on "ultrasound" techniques, 325 on "ablation" methods, and 453 articles focusing on "genetics" in thyroid cancer. The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism emerged as the most prolific, publishing 1017 articles over the 29-year period.
    CONCLUSION: This study guides resource allocation towards impactful journals for thyroid cancer researchers, helps identify key contributors for collaboration or mentorship, and provides a framework for similar analyses in other fields.

      As a high-performance separation material, the ceramic membrane has played a crucial role in addressing resource, energy, and environmental challenges. Here, we carried out literature retrieval and collection for the research of ceramic membranes based on the Web of Science. The retrieval strategy was quantitatively evaluated from two dimensions: recall and precision. The distributions of publication time, journal, and related subjects were systematically analyzed. With the help of CiteSpace and VOSviewer, the literature was visually analyzed through the co-occurrence map of authors and the cluster network of keywords. The findings indicate a strong correlation between ceramic membrane research and the field of Chemical Engineering. A core group of authors has emerged as prominent contributors in this area of study. Additionally, there is a notable long-tail effect observed in the application of ceramic membranes. Despite their current low-frequency usage and high-volume potential, these applications hold substantial promise for future scientific research and industrial development.

       Background: Macrophages play a pivotal role in the research landscape of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), contributing significantly to understanding tumor progression, treatment resistance, and immunotherapy efficacy. In this study, we utilized bibliometric techniques to analyze shifts in research hotspots and trends within the field, while also forecasting future research directions. These insights aim to offer guidance for both clinical therapeutic interventions and foundational scientific inquiries.
    Methods: All publications were released between 1993 and 2023 and focus on research pertaining to macrophages in the field of NSCLC. The articles were identified from the Web of Science Core Collection and analyzed using VOSviewer 1.6.19, CiteSpace 6.2.R2, and Scimago Graphica 1.0.35.
    Result: A total of 361 articles authored by 3,072 researchers from 48 countries were included in the analysis. TAMs have gained increasing attention for their role in NSCLC development and as potential therapeutic targets. Modulating TAM behavior may offer avenues to suppress tumor growth and drug resistance, improving patient outcomes. International collaboration, particularly between China and the United States, accelerates progress in NSCLC research, benefiting patients worldwide. The research hotspot revolves around understanding the role of macrophages in immunotherapy, focusing on their contribution to tumor progression, therapeutic resistance, and potential as therapeutic targets in NSCLC.
    Conclusions: The therapeutic significance of macrophages in the field of NSCLC is gaining increasing attention and recognition, highlighting their potential as key players in the development of novel treatment strategies. Future research will focus on understanding TAM molecular mechanisms, interactions with immune cells, and exploring novel therapies, with the aim of improving NSCLC treatment outcomes.

      In order to visualize the content and development patterns of microplastic biodegradation research, the American Chemical Society (ACS), Elsevier, Springer Link, and American Society for Microbiology (ASM) were searched for the years 2012-2022 using Citespace and VOSvivewer for bibliometrics and visual analysis. The biodegradation processes and mechanisms of microplastics were reviewed on this basis. The results showed a sharp increase in the number of publications between 2012 and 2022, peaking in 2020-2021, with 62 more publications than the previous decade. The University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), Northwest A&F University (NWAFU), and Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) are the top three research institutions in this field. Researchers are mainly located in China, The United States of America (USA), and India. Furthermore, the research in this field is primarily concerned with the screening of functional microorganisms, the determination of functional enzymes, and the analysis of microplastic biodegradation processes and mechanisms. These studies have revealed that the existing functional microorganisms for microplastic biodegradation are bacteria, predominantly Proteobacteria and Firmicutes; fungi, mainly Ascomycota; and some intestinal microorganisms. The main enzymes secreted in the process are hydrolase, oxidative, and depolymerization enzymes. Microorganisms degrade microplastics through the processes of colonization, biofilm retention, and bioenzymatic degradation. These studies have elucidated the current status of and problems in the microbial degradation of microplastics, and provide a direction for further research on the degradation process and molecular mechanism of functional microorganisms.

       OBJECTIVE: Representation of women and minority groups is traditionally low in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery (OHNS). This cross-sectional study aims to assess the difference in gender and racial/ethnic representation within Academic North American pediatric OHNS.
    STUDY DESIGN: Cross-sectional study of North American pediatric OHNS faculty websites.
    SETTING: North America.
    METHODS: Canadian and American residency program registries were searched for accredited OHNS programs. Pediatric OHNS faculty were identified through program websites. Information regarding gender, race/ethnicity, time in practice, research productivity, academic title, and leadership positions was extracted from public profiles and Scopus. Demographic and academic data was also extracted for OHNS and pediatric OHNS department/division chairs.
    RESULTS: North American academic pediatric OHNS websites listed 516 surgeons, of whom 39.9% were women. Most surgeons were perceived as White (69.0%), followed by Asian (24.0%), Hispanic (3.7%), and Black (3.3%). Women surgeons had lower h-indices, less publications, and less citations than men (P < .001). Despite women surgeons having fewer years in practice (median 8.0 vs 13.0, P < .001), gender-differences in h-index persisted when controlling for years in practice (P < .05). Men surgeons had higher academic titles (P < .001), but there was no gender difference in leadership roles while accounting for years in practice (P = .559). White surgeons had higher academic titles than non-White surgeons (P = .018). There was no racial/ethnic difference in leadership roles (P = .392).
    CONCLUSION: Most pediatric OHNS surgeons are men and/or White. Significant gender-differences in research productivity and academic title exist, however surgeons of racial/ethnic minority have similar research productivity as their racial/ethnic majority counterparts.

      Human cadaveric tissues are essential for biomechanical research, however, omitting statements regarding the ethical implications remains very common in many recent articles of biomechanics. We systematically searched PubMed for research articles published from 2017 to 2022 to identify all relevant studies (n=1850). Information on the characteristics of the cadaveric specimens and the acquisition of ethical approval was collected. The included articles were categorized as grade A (n=757), grade B (n=308), and grade C (n=785) according to our predetermined criteria. Additionally, we analyzed whether the reporting status of ethical approval varied based on publishing year, journals, regions, and research settings. No significant improvement was observed over the study period. Disparities in ethical reporting standards were identified among different regions and journals. This is the first bibliometric analysis that offers an overview of publications in biomechanical research that use human cadaveric samples. It serves as a reference for interested researchers and journal readers to discuss the associated ethical issues.

       BACKGROUND: In the rapidly evolving landscape of psychiatric research, 2023 marked another year of significant progress globally, with the World Journal of Psychiatry (WJP) experiencing notable expansion and influence.
    AIM: To conduct a comprehensive visualization and analysis of the articles published in the WJP throughout 2023. By delving into these publications, the aim is to determine the valuable insights that can illuminate pathways for future research endeavors in the field of psychiatry.
    METHODS: A selection process led to the inclusion of 107 papers from the WJP published in 2023, forming the dataset for the analysis. Employing advanced visualization techniques, this study mapped the knowledge domains represented in these papers.
    RESULTS: The findings revealed a prevalent focus on key topics such as depression, mental health, anxiety, schizophrenia, and the impact of coronavirus disease 2019. Additionally, through keyword clustering, it became evident that these papers were predominantly focused on exploring mental health disorders, depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and related factors. Noteworthy contributions hailed authors in regions such as China, the United Kingdom, United States, and Turkey. Particularly, the paper garnered the highest number of citations, while the American Psychiatric Association was the most cited reference.
    CONCLUSION: It is recommended that the WJP continue in its efforts to enhance the quality of papers published in the field of psychiatry. Additionally, there is a pressing need to delve into the potential applications of digital interventions and artificial intelligence within the discipline.

      Visual analysis of the current status, research hotspots, evolving trends, and future prospects in the field of thiamine-responsive megaloblastic anemia syndrome (TRMA), providing new insights and directions for subsequent research on the pathogenic mechanisms and prevention strategies of TRMA. Taking the core database of Web of Science as the literature source, selecting TRMA-related literature records published from 1997 to 2023 as the research object, and using R software and Citexs database to conduct visual analysis and discussion of the research content. The results showed that a total of 89 publications related to the topic were published from 1997 to 2023, with an average annual publication volume of 3 papers. Classified by country, it was found that the United States, and Israel among other countries and institutions, published a significant number of papers. Through keyword frequency analysis, high frequencies of keywords such as diabetes, deafness, thiamine-responsive megaloblastic anemia, and mutations in the solute carrier family 19 member 2 (SLC19A2) gene were observed, indicating that to date, these keywords have been the main research directions, highlighting a gradually reached consensus on the mechanism exploration of TRMA. In conclusion, TRMA research focuses on the mechanisms of hot topics such as diabetes, deafness, and thiamine-responsive megaloblastic anemia, and the core gene SLC19A2 research may currently become a new breakthrough point for future molecular studies.

       AIMS: To characterize the thematic foci, structure, and evolution of nursing research on clinical reasoning and judgment.
    DESIGN: Bibliometric analysis.
    METHODS: We used a bibliometric method to analyze 1528 articles.
    DATA SOURCE: We searched the Scopus bibliographic database on January 7, 2024.
    RESULTS: Through a keyword co-occurrence analysis, we found the most frequent keywords to be clinical judgment, clinical reasoning, nursing education, simulation, nursing, clinical decision-making, nursing students, nursing assessment, critical thinking, nursing diagnosis, patient safety, nurses, nursing process, clinical competence, and risk assessment. The focal themes, structure, and evolution of nursing research on clinical reasoning and judgment were revealed by keyword mapping, clustering, and time-tracking.
    CONCLUSION: By assessing key nursing research areas, we extend the current discourse on clinical reasoning and clinical judgment for researchers, educators, and practitioners. Critical challenges must still be met by nursing professionals with regard to their use of clinical reasoning and judgment within their clinical practice. Further knowledge and comprehension of the clinical reasoning process and the development of clinical judgment must be successfully translated from research to nursing education and practice.
    IMPLICATIONS FOR THE PROFESSION: This study highlights the nursing knowledge gaps with regard to nurses' use of clinical reasoning and judgment and encourages nursing educators and professionals to focus on developing nurses' clinical reasoning and judgment with regard to their patients' safety.
    IMPACT: In addressing nurses' use of clinical reasoning and judgment, and with regard to patient safety in particular, this study found that, in certain clinical settings, the use of clinical reasoning and judgment remains a challenge for nursing professionals. This study should thus have an effect on nursing academics' research choices, on nursing educators' teaching practices, and on nurses' clinical practices.
    REPORTING METHOD: Relevant EQUATOR guidelines have been adhered to by employing recognized bibliometric reporting methods.

       BACKGROUND: Studies have shown a strong bidirectional association between diabetes and depression, with diabetes increasing the risk of developing depression and vice versa. Depression among patients with diabetes is associated with poor glycemic control, complications, and poor self-care.
    AIM: To explore the present state of research globally concerning diabetes and depression, to aid understanding the current research landscape and identify potential future areas of research.
    METHODS: A bibliometric approach was used, utilizing the Scopus database to gather pertinent research articles released from 2004 to 2023. Analyses encompassed publication patterns, significant contributors, research focal points, prevalent themes, and the most influential articles, aimed at discerning emerging research subjects.
    RESULTS: A total of 3229 publications that met the search criteria were identified. A significant increase in the number of publications related to diabetes and depression has been observed in the past two decades. The most productive nation was the USA (n = 1015; 31.43%), followed by China (n = 325; 10.07%), the UK (n = 236; 7.31%), and Germany (n = 218; 6.75%). Three principal themes in research on depression and diabetes were delineated by the analysis. First, the exploration of the elevated prevalence and etiology of this comorbidity; second, the focus on interventions, particularly randomized controlled trials, aimed at enhancing diabetes management among individuals with depression; and finally, the investigation of the involved risk factors and biological mechanisms underlying this bidirectional relationship.
    CONCLUSION: There has been a recent surge of interest in the relationship between diabetes and depression. This could aid researchers to identify areas lacking in the literature and shape future research.

       Significance: Since the advent of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) two decades ago, there has been substantial advancement in our understanding of intravascular biology. Identifying culprit lesion pathology through OCT could precipitate a paradigm shift in the treatment of patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome. Given the technical prowess of OCT in the realm of cardiology, bibliometric analysis can reveal trends and research focal points in the application of OCT for cardiovascular diseases. Concurrently, meta-analyses provide a more comprehensive evidentiary base, supporting the clinical efficacy of OCT-guided Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI).
    Design: This study employs a dual approach of Bibliometric and Meta-analysis.
    Methods: Relevant literature from 2003 to 2023 was extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) and analyzed using VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and R for publication patterns, countries, institutions, authors, and research hotspots. The study compares OCT-guided and coronary angiography-guided PCI in treating adult coronary artery disease through randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies. The study has been reported in the line with PRISMA and AMSTAR Guidelines.
    Results: Adhering to inclusion and exclusion criteria, 310 publications were incorporated, demonstrating a continual rise in annual output. Chinese researchers contributed the most studies, while American research wielded greater influence. Analysis of trends indicated that research on OCT and angiography-guided PCI has become a focal topic in recent cohort studies and RCTs. In 11 RCTs (n = 5,277), OCT-guided PCI was not significantly associated with a reduction in the risk of Major Adverse Cardiac Events (MACE) (Odds ratio 0.84, 95% CI 0.65-1.10), cardiac death (0.61, 0.36-1.02), all-cause death (0.7, 0.49-1.02), myocardial infarction (MI) (0.88, 0.69-1.13), target lesion revascularization (TLR) (0.94, 0.7-1.27), target vessel revascularization (TVR) (1.04, 0.76-1.43), or stent thrombosis (0.72, 0.38-1.38). However, in 7 observational studies (n = 4,514), OCT-guided PCI was associated with a reduced risk of MACE (0.66, 0.48-0.91) and TLR (0.39, 0.22-0.68).
    Conclusion: Our comprehensive review of OCT in cardiovascular disease literature from 2004 to 2023, encompassing country and institutional origins, authors, and publishing journals, suggests that OCT-guided PCI does not demonstrate significant clinical benefits in RCTs. Nevertheless, pooled results from observational studies indicate a reduction in MACE and TLR.

      The research aimed to carefully review the chemical hazards linked to the coffee production chain to analyse the risks and opportunities for consumers and the environment, as well as identify potential knowledge gaps. The Scopus database was consulted from 1949 to April 2024 to conduct a bibliometric analysis. As a result, 680 articles were analysed. Results indicated a significant increase in research activity since 2015. China, Brazil, and the USA were the leading countries in scientific production and collaborations. The most prolific journals in this field were Chemosphere, Science of the Total Environment, Food Chemistry, Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, and Journal of Environmental Management, all of which are in the first quartile. The word analysis revealed two main themes: the first focuses on the chemical hazards of coffee and their impact on health, while the second explores the waste generated during coffee production and its potential for reuse. The topics covered in the research include the composition of coffee, associated chemical hazards, possible health risks, and ways to reuse waste for environmental protection. Future research should concentrate on optimising techniques and processes to ensure quality, safety, and sustainability.

       BACKGROUND: China has entered the era of digital health care after years of reforms in the health care system. The use of digital technologies in healthcare services is rapidly increasing, indicating the onset of a new period. The reform of health insurance has also entered a new phase.
    OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the evolution of health care insurance within the context of telemedicine and Internet Plus Healthcare (IPHC) during the digital health care era by using scientometric methods to analyze publication patterns, influential keywords, and research hot spots. It seeks to understand how health care insurance has adapted to the growing integration of IPHC and telemedicine in health care services and the implications for policy and practice.
    METHODS: A total of 411 high-quality studies were curated from the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database in the Chinese language, scientometric analysis was conducted, and VOSviewer software was used to conduct a visualized analysis of keywords and hot spots in the literature.
    RESULTS: The number of articles in this field has increased notably from 2000 to 2022 and has increased annually based on a curve of y=0.332exp (0.4002x) with R2=0.6788. In total, 62 institutions and 811 authors have published research articles in the Chinese language in this field. This study included 290 keywords and formulated a total of 5 hot-topic clusters of "telemedicine," "IPHC," "internet hospital," "health insurance payments," and "health insurance system."
    CONCLUSIONS: Studies on the application of digital technologies in health care insurance has evolved from foundational studies to a broader scope. The emergence of internet hospitals has showcased the potential for integrating IPHC services into insurance payment systems. However, this development also highlights the necessity for enhanced interregional coordination mechanisms. The reform of health insurance payment is contingent upon ongoing advancements in digital technology and increased investment in electronic medical records and primary health care services. Future efforts should focus on integrating technology with administrative systems, advancing mobile health care solutions, and ensuring interoperability among various payment systems to improve efficiency and standardize health care services.

      Mastitis, an important disease in dairy cows, causes significant losses in herd profitability. Accurate diagnosis is crucial for adequate control. Studies using artificial intelligence (AI) models to classify, identify, predict, and diagnose mastitis show promise in improving mastitis control. This bibliometric review aimed to evaluate AI and bovine mastitis terms in the most relevant Scopus-indexed papers from 2011 to 2021. Sixty-two documents were analyzed, revealing key terms, prominent researchers, relevant publications, main themes, and keyword clusters. "Mastitis" and "machine learning" were the most cited terms, with an increasing trend from 2018 to 2021. Other terms, such as "sensors" and "mastitis detection", also emerged. The United States was the most cited country and presented the largest collaboration network. Publications on mastitis and AI models notably increased from 2016 to 2021, indicating growing interest. However, few studies utilized AI for bovine mastitis detection, primarily employing artificial neural network models. This suggests a clear potential for further research in this area.

       BACKGROUND: Women remain underrepresented in leadership roles, faculty roles, and among residents in orthopaedic surgery. It has been suggested that having women in leadership positions in orthopaedic surgery may help to increase the gender diversity of residency programs. However, to our knowledge, no study has explored the relationship, if any, between the gender of the residency program director and the percentage of women in the residency program.
    QUESTIONS/PURPOSES: (1) Is the program director's gender associated with differences in the percentage of women orthopaedic surgery residents? (2) Do women and men differ in the time to appointment of program director?
    METHODS: A list of 207 orthopaedic surgery residencies was obtained from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) website for the academic year 2021 to 2022. The study excluded 6% (13) of programs; 4% (8) were those without ACGME accreditation and those with initial accreditation, and 2% (5) did not have updated 2021 to 2022 resident lists. Descriptive information on 194 programs was obtained from publicly accessible resources from July 2021 through July 2022. The institution's website and the American Medical Association's (AMA) Fellowship and Residency Electronic Interactive Database (FREIDA) was used to collect residency program characteristics and resident demographics [2]. Doximity, Healthgrades, and LinkedIn were used to further collect current orthopaedic surgery residency program director demographics, including gender, age, and education/training history. To determine gender, photographs and pronouns (she/her/hers or he/him/hers) used in their biographies were used first. To confirm this, secondary sources were used including their NPI profile, which lists gender; Doximity; and their LinkedIn profile. Scopus was used to analyze research output by the program directors-using the Hirsch index (h-index) as the primary bibliometric metric. A total of 194 program directors were identified, of whom of 12% (23) were women and 88% (171) were men. Of the 4421 total residents among these programs, 20% (887) were women and 80% (3534) were men. A univariate analysis comparing program directors was conducted, with continuous variables analyzed using an independent-sample t-test and categorical variables analyzed using a Pearson chi-square test. With the numbers available, a post hoc statistical power calculation indicated that we could detect an 32% difference in the percentage of women in a program as significant with 80% power at the p < 0.05 level, whereas we might have been underpowered to discern smaller differences than that.
    RESULTS: With the numbers available, we found no difference in the percentage of women in residency programs run by women program directors than in programs in which the program director was a man (22% [125 of 558] versus 20% [762 of 3863], mean difference 2% [95% CI -1.24% to 7.58%]; p = 0.08). Comparing women to men program directors, women had fewer years between residency completion and appointment to the position of program director (8 ± 2 years versus 12 ± 7 years, mean difference 4 years [95% CI 2.01 to 7.93 years]; p = 0.02) and had a lower mean h-index (7 ± 4 versus 11 ± 11, mean difference 4 [95% CI 1.70 to 6.56]; p = 0.03) and number of publications (24 ± 23 versus 41 ± 62, mean difference 17 [95% CI 3.98 to 31.05]; p = 0.01), although they did not differ in terms of their advanced degrees, duration of training, or likelihood of having taken a fellowship.
    CONCLUSION: Orthopaedic residency programs that were run by women did not contain a higher percentage of women residents, suggesting that the gender of the individual in that role may not be as important as has been speculated by others. Future studies should investigate the intersectionality of gender, race, and ethnicity of residents, program directors, and current faculty.
    CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The fact that women were placed in program director roles earlier in career may also carry special jeopardy for them. Those roles are difficult and can impair a faculty member's ability to conduct individual research, which often is key to further academic promotions. Given that and the fact that the gender of the program director was not associated with differences in gender composition of residency programs, we believe that increasing mentorship and access to pipeline programs will help promote diversity in residency programs.

      Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, while the world sought solutions, few scholars exploited the situation for personal gains through deceptive studies and manipulated data. This paper presents the extent of 400 retracted COVID-19 papers listed by the RetractionWatch database until the month of February 2024. The primary purpose of the research was to analyze journal quality and retractions trends. Evaluating the journal's quality is vital for stakeholders, as it enables them to effectively address and prevent such incidents and their future repercussions. The present study found that one-fourth of publications were retracted within the first month of their publication, followed by an additional 6% within six months of publication. One third of the retractions originated from Q1 journals, with another significant portion coming from Q2 (29.8%). An analysis of the reasons for retractions indicates that a quarter of retractions were attributed to multiple causes, predominantly associated with publications in Q2 journals, while another quarter were linked to data issues, primarily observed in Q1 publications. Elsevier retracted 31% of papers, with the majority published as Q1, followed by Springer (11.5%), predominantly as Q2. The study also examined author contributions, revealing that 69.3% were male, with females (30.7%) mainly holding middle author positions.

       AIMS: To provide (1) an overview of core characteristics of scoping and mapping review methodologies and (2) to illustrate the differences and similarities of these methodologies using literature on nursing mobile workstations.
    DESIGN: Systematic review.
    METHODS: Systematic searches were conducted to identify (1) scoping and mapping review methodologies used in the field of nursing and (2) literature on nursing mobile workstations. For each systematic search, two reviewers independently screened all titles, abstracts, and full texts. We conducted narrative syntheses for both review questions. Publications on scoping and mapping review methodologies in the field of nursing were searched in MEDLINE (PubMed), Web of Science, Scopus, and CINAHL (September 2022). Publications on nursing mobile workstations were searched in MEDLINE (PubMed), CINAHL, and Web of Science (April 2022).
    RESULTS: We identified six scoping and mapping review methodologies (aim 1): bibliometric analysis, evidence mapping, focused mapping review and synthesis, and scoping review. The methodologies aim to provide a graphical, tabular, or narrative overview without a formal critical assessment of the literature. We provide an overview of key variables that reflect the different focus of these methodologies. We also included 26 publications on nursing mobile workstations (aim 2). Nineteen different terms were used to describe the workstations. An overall definition of the nursing mobile workstation was not found.
    CONCLUSION: Scoping and mapping methodologies are regularly applied in nursing research. Although there is overlap between the different methodologies, we found some unique characteristics. Despite the regular use of nursing mobile workstations, little is known about their impact in care processes and important features. Future studies on nursing mobile workstations could explore the impact of the workstations in the care process and the current functions of the workstations. A universal definition of the workstations is warranted.
    CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Most publications address aspects of practicability of nursing mobile workstations, but we found no universal definition. Little knowledge is available on the impact of the workstations in clinical practice.

      The importance of social media has seen a dramatic increase in recent times, but much about its influence in academia is still unknown. To date, no comparative studies analysing the effect of social media promotion on citation counts have been undertaken in neurosurgical publishing. We randomized 177 articles published in Acta Neurochirurgica from May to September 2020. The 89 articles in the intervention group received a standardized social media promotion through one post on our official Twitter/X account, whereas the 88 articles in the control group did not receive any social media promotion. Citation counts, website visits and PDF downloads were tracked at one and two years post-promotion. We found no significant difference in number of citations at one year post-promotion (Intervention: 1.85 ± 3.94 vs. Control: 2.67 ± 6.65, p = 0.322) or at two years (5.35 ± 7.39 vs. 7.09 ± 12.1, p = 0.249). Similarly, no difference was detected in website visits at one (587.46 ± 568.04 vs. 590.65 ± 636.25, p = 0.972) or two years (865.79 ± 855.80 vs. 896.31 ± 981.97, p = 0.826) and PDF downloads at one (183.40 ± 152.02 vs. 187.78 ± 199.01, p = 0.870) or two years (255.99 ± 218.97 vs. 260.97 ± 258.44, p = 0.890). In a randomized study, a structured promotion of general neurosurgical articles on Twitter/X did not significantly impact citation count, website visits, or PDF downloads compared to no social media promotion. Combined with published evidence to date, the impact of social media on citation counts in academic publishing ultimately remains unclear.

      This study investigated the relationship between periodontal disease (PD) and Alzheimer's Disease (AD) through a Systematic Literature Network Analysis (SLNA), combining bibliometric analysis with a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). Analyzing 328 documents from 2000 to 2023, we utilized the Bibliometrix R-package for multiple bibliometric analysis. The SLR primarily centered on the 47 most globally cited papers, highlighting influential research. Our study reveals a positive correlation between Periodontal Disease (PD) and Alzheimer's Disease (AD), grounded in both biological plausibility and a comprehensive review of the literature, yet the exact causal relationship remains a subject of ongoing scientific investigation. We conducted a detailed analysis of the two main pathways by which PD could contribute to brain inflammation: (a) the Inflammatory Cascade, and (b) Microbial Involvement. The results of our SLNA emphasize the importance of oral health in reducing Alzheimer's risk, suggesting that managing periodontal health could be an integral part of Alzheimer's prevention and treatment strategies. The insights from this SLNA pave the way for future research and clinical practices, underscoring the necessity of interdisciplinary methods in both the investigation and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's. Furthermore, our study presents a prospective research roadmap to support ongoing advancement in this field.

       Background: Pathomics has emerged as a promising biomarker that could facilitate personalized immunotherapy in lung cancer. It is essential to elucidate the global research trends and emerging prospects in this domain.
    Methods: The annual distribution, journals, authors, countries, institutions, and keywords of articles published between 2018 and 2023 were visualized and analyzed using CiteSpace and other bibliometric tools.
    Results: A total of 109 relevant articles or reviews were included, demonstrating an overall upward trend; The terms "deep learning", "tumor microenvironment", "biomarkers", "image analysis", "immunotherapy", and "survival prediction", etc. are hot keywords in this field.
    Conclusion: In future research endeavors, advanced methodologies involving artificial intelligence and pathomics will be deployed for the digital analysis of tumor tissues and the tumor microenvironment in lung cancer patients, leveraging histopathological tissue sections. Through the integration of comprehensive multi-omics data, this strategy aims to enhance the depth of assessment, characterization, and understanding of the tumor microenvironment, thereby elucidating a broader spectrum of tumor features. Consequently, the development of a multimodal fusion model will ensue, enabling precise evaluation of personalized immunotherapy efficacy and prognosis for lung cancer patients, potentially establishing a pivotal frontier in this domain of investigation.

       BACKGROUND: The declining number of electrophysiologists pursuing academic research careers could negatively impact innovation for patients with heart rhythm disorders in the coming decades.
    OBJECTIVE: To explore determinants of research engagement after graduation from EP fellowship programs and evaluate associated barriers and opportunities.
    METHODS: A mixed methods survey of EP fellows and early career electrophysiologists was conducted, drawing from Heart Rhythm Society members. The survey encompassed 20 questions on demographics, research involvement, perceived research barriers, and perspectives on research time and opportunities. Responses were analyzed with robust Poisson regression.
    RESULTS: Among 259 respondents, those with dedicated research blocks during their fellowship had a significantly higher interest in future research (RR 1.15, p=0.04). The number of peer-reviewed publications modestly influenced interest in continued research (RR 1.0034 per publication, p < 0.0001), but there was no relationship to gender or race. Educational resources, networking opportunities, mentorship, funding, and protected time to enhance research engagement were important themes in the qualitative analysis, while key barriers to post-fellowship research were lack of mentorship, insufficient resources and time constraints in that order, particular with respect to women in research. Notably, no significant differences in barriers were observed between community training programs and academic centers.
    CONCLUSIONS: Research experience and mentorship during EP fellowship were key determinants of subsequent research success after training, with similar findings by sex and race. These findings explain how fellowship training influences a physician's research practice post training and highlights opportunities to modify EP fellowships and augment research retention.

      Despite plenty of research recently conducted, household food waste still has not been comprehensively investigated. In view of this, we systematically reviewed the literature on this topic (using VOSviewer), made content analyses and identified several issues in these studies. This study aims to provide an in-depth review on household food waste research by highlighting the research gaps. Our findings indicate that the recent studies on household food waste can be broadly categorised into three interconnected segments: definition of food waste, cause analysis of household food waste and strategies for reducing household food waste. It was found that targeted strategies could reduce food waste by up to 27.85% in some regions. In addition, intervention strategies reduced total household food waste and avoidable food waste by 31% and 30%, respectively, showing excellent performance. This review highlights the importance of targeted research on consumer behaviour and regional conditions in reducing household food waste, as well as the necessity of working out solutions to household food waste within a common interest community.

      Marine environmental pollution is one of the growing concerns of humans all over the world. Therefore, in this manuscript, we performed a bibliometric analysis to understand the main applications of AI for managing marine environments. Therefore, we examined both PubMed online database and Google Scholar to find any research articles that discuss the applications of AI in managing marine environmental pollution. Ultimately, we found that AI can detect, locate, and even predict aquatic contaminants like oil fingerprinting, oil spills, oil spill damage, oil slicks, forecasting marine water quality, water quality development, harmful algal blooms, benthic sediment toxicity, as well as detection of marine debris with high accuracy.

       PURPOSE: Neuronavigation, explored as an intra-operative adjunct for brain tumor surgery three decades ago, has become globally utilized with a promising upward trajectory. This study aims to chart its success from idea to adoption and evolution within the US and globally.
    METHODS: A three-pronged methodology included a systematic literature search, impact analysis using NIH relative citation ratio (RCR) and Altmetric scores, and assessment of patent holdings. Data was dichotomized for US and international contexts.
    RESULTS: The first neuronavigation publication stemmed from Finland in 1993, marking its inception. Over three decades, the cumulative number of 323 studies, along with the significantly increasing publication trend (r = 0.74, p < 0.05) and distribution across 34 countries, underscored its progressive and global adoption. Neuronavigation, mostly optical systems (58%), was utilized in over 19,000 cases, predominantly for brain tumor surgery (84%). Literature impact showed a robust cumulative median RCR score surpassing that for NIH-funded studies (1.37 vs. 1.0), with US studies having a significantly higher median RCR than international (1.71 vs. 1.21, p < 0.05). Technological evolution was characterized by adjuncts, including micro/exo/endoscope (21%), MRI (17%), ultrasound (10%), and CT (7%). Patent analysis demonstrated academic and industrial representation with an interdisciplinary convergence of medical and computational sciences.
    CONCLUSION: Since its inception thirty years ago, neuronavigation has been adopted worldwide, and it has evolved with adjunct technology integration to enhance its meaningful use. The current neuronavigation innovation pipeline is progressing, with academic and industry partnering to advance its further application in treating brain tumor patients.

       BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic paralyzed the world for over three years, generating unprecedented social changes in recent human history.
    AIMS: We aimed to scientometrically summarize a global and temporal overview of publications on COVID-19 in the two worst years of the pandemic and its progression in early 2022, after the start of vaccination.
    METHODS: Using the Web of Science database, this review covered the period from late 2019 to March 2022 and included all publications identified using the following terms: "SARS-CoV-2", "COVID-19", "Coronavirus Disease 19", and "2019-nCoV". We retrieved 268,904 publications, with evident global spreading, demonstrating that the pandemic triggered worldwide scientific research efforts.
    RESULTS: Within the dataset, 195 countries have published about Covid-19. In initial publications, a solid trend in genotyping, sequencing, and detection of the virus was evident; however, in the development of the pandemic, new knowledge and research focus gained relevance, with continental solid trends, revealed by the keywords sustainability (eastern Europe); material sciences (Asia); public and mental health (Africa); information sciences (western Europe); education (Latin America). It identified high-impact research, mainly on diagnosis and vaccines, but also equally essential topics for returning life to the new normal, such as mental health, education, and remote work. The world experienced a highly transmissible infection that proved how fragile we are regarding organization and society.
    CONCLUSIONS: It is necessary to learn from such an event and establish a protocol of actions and measures to be taken and avoided in a health emergency, aiming to act differently from the chaos experienced during the pandemic. Following the One Health approach, humanity must be aware of the need for more sustainable attitudes, given the inseparability of human beings from the environment.

      This literature review explores cutting-edge microencapsulation techniques designed to enhance the antimicrobial efficacy of essential oils in dairy products. As consumer demand for natural preservatives rises, understanding the latest advancements in microencapsulation becomes crucial for improving the shelf life and safety of these products. The bibliometric analysis utilized in this review highlighted a large number of documents published on this topic in relation to the following keywords: essential oils, AND antimicrobials, AND dairy products, OR microencapsulation. The documents published in the last 11 years, between 2013 and 2023, showed a diversity of authors and countries researching this topic and the keywords commonly used. However, in the literature consulted, no study was identified that was based on bibliometric analysis and that critically evaluated the microencapsulation of essential oils and their antimicrobial potential in dairy products. This review synthesizes findings from diverse studies, shedding light on the various encapsulation methods employed and their impact on preserving the quality of dairy goods. Additionally, it discusses the potential applications and challenges associated with implementation in the dairy industry. This comprehensive analysis aims to provide valuable insights for researchers, food scientists, and industry professionals seeking to optimize the use of essential oils with antimicrobial properties in dairy formulations.

      This study conducts a comprehensive analysis on the usage of the blockchain technology in clinical trials, based on a curated corpus of 107 scientific articles from the year 2016 through the first quarter of 2024. Utilizing a methodological framework that integrates bibliometric analysis, network analysis, thematic mapping, and latent Dirichlet allocation, the study explores the terrain and prospective developments within this usage based on data analytics. Through a meticulous examination of the analyzed articles, the present study identifies seven key thematic areas, highlighting the diverse applications and interdisciplinary nature of blockchain in clinical trials. Our findings reveal blockchain capability to enhance data management, participant consent processes, as well as overall trial transparency, efficiency, and security. Additionally, the investigation discloses the emerging synergy between blockchain and advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence and federated learning, proposing innovative directions for improving clinical research methodologies. Our study underscores the collaborative efforts in dealing with the complexities of integrating blockchain into the areas of clinical trials and healthcare, delineating the transformative potential of blockchain technology in revolutionizing these areas by addressing challenges and promoting practices of efficient, secure, and transparent research. The delineated themes and networks of collaboration provide a blueprint for future inquiry, showing the importance of empirical research to narrow the gap between theoretical promise and practical implementation.

      The present research aims to describe how turkey meat and carcass quality traits define the interest of the scientific community through the quality standards of journals in which studies are published. To this end, an analysis of 92 research documents addressing the study of turkey carcass and meat quality over the last 57 years was performed. Meat and carcass quality attributes were dependent variables and included traits related to carcass dressing, muscle fiber, pH, colorimetry, water-holding capacity, texture, and chemical composition. The independent variables comprised publication quality traits, including journal indexation, database, journal impact factor (JIF), quartile, publication area, and JIF percentage. For each dependent variable, a data-mining chi-squared automatic interaction detection (CHAID) decision tree was developed. Carcass or piece yield was the only variable that did not show an impact on the publication quality. Moreover, color and pH measurements taken at 72 h postmortem showed a negative impact on publication interest. On the other hand, variables including water-retaining attributes, colorimetry, pH, chemical composition, and shear force traits stood out among the quality-enhancing variables due to their low inclusion in papers, while high standards improved power.

      To examine methodology characteristics over time and investigate research impact before and after the start of the COVID-19 era, we analyzed original articles published in The New England Journal of Medicine between October 26, 2017 and August 27, 2022. April 1, 2020 was used as the defining date dividing before and after the COVID-19 era. Out of 1051 original articles, 515 (49 %) were before and 536 (51 %) were after the COVID-19 era. Two independent reviewers categorized and reconciled methodology into groups: "randomized trial" (715 articles), "uncontrolled experimental study" (128), "descriptive observational study" (168), and "observational study making a causal claim" (40). We extracted subsequent citations and Altmetric data for each article to assess impact. The median number of social media shares was 2272 (IQR: 743-7821) for observational studies making a causal conclusion, compared to 306 (IQR: 70-606) for randomized trials (p-value=<0.001). The median Altmetric score for randomized COVID-19 trials (2421, IQR: 1063-3920) was not significantly different than that of COVID-19 observational studies making a causal claim (2583, IQR: 1513-6197, p-value = 0.42), but it was significantly lower than descriptive observational COVID-19 studies (4093, IQR: 2545-6823, p-value = 0.04). We conclude that there has been a steady increase in the number and percentage of observational studies that make causal conclusions about the efficacy of an intervention. Research concerning COVID-19, regardless of methodology, has seen a sharp rise in dissemination as measured through Altmetric's social media score and subsequent citations.

       OBJECTIVE: To identify LGBTQ+ DEI publications and contextualize the current frequency of the literature across subspecialty surgical fields.
    METHODS: A PRISMA systematic review using PubMed, MEDLINE, and Web of Science was conducted in April 2024. Inclusion criteria required intra-field DEI content of defined subspecialties while foreign language literature, poor methodology, and duplicates were excluded. The primary endpoint was the number of publications across subspecialties. Secondary endpoints included publication dates, study design, and sample size.
    RESULTS: Of the 702 articles identified, 27 were included. Neurological surgery had 2 studies while plastic surgery, orthopedic surgery, otolaryngology, and thoracic surgery had 11, 7, 5, and 2 respectively. There was a statistically significant different frequency of publications across subspecialties (p = 0.031). Post-hoc residual analysis indicated neurosurgery and thoracic surgery had statistically fewer publications, while plastic surgery had statistically more (p = 0.04, 0.002, 0.21, 0.42, 0.04 for neurological Surgery, plastic surgery, orthopedic surgery, otolaryngology, and thoracic surgery, respectively). Secondary outcomes found a majority of publication dates between 2022 to 2024. Study methodologies involved cross-sectional studies, editorials, and retrospective reviews (14, 11, and 3 respectively) and contained a median sample size of 248.5.
    CONCLUSIONS: This systematic review provides objective data to contextualize DEI literature across surgical subspecialties. Overall, this review highlights the lack of LGBTQ+ DEI literature within neurosurgery and advocates for correcting this gap for the benefit of both surgeons and patients. Understanding the current numbers and evaluating progress in other surgical fields might provide solutions.

       Background/purpose: Oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) affecting populations is considered a public health issue in South/Southeast Asia. The purpose of this study was to analyze the scientometric characteristics and research trends of OSF.
    Materials and methods: All the papers on OSF were comprehensively retrieved from the Scopus database. Regional comparison (India versus outside of India) and chronological comparison (before 2015 versus after 2015) were performed.
    Results: Among all the 1357 papers on OSF, 930 (68.5%) were from India. In India, biology research on antioxidant, oxidative stress, angiogenesis, and extracellular matrix were distinctive keywords. Risk factors of smokeless tobacco and gutkha and the roles of saliva and blood sampling were also distinctive keywords in India. In outside of India, biology research on myofibroblast, alpha smooth muscle actin, microRNA, long untranslated RNA, and protein p53 were distinctive keywords. The trend of biology research on connective tissue, genotype, genetic predisposition, messenger RNA, and cytology before 2015 has changed to research on myofibroblast, biological marker, microRNA, epithelial mesenchymal transition, extracellular matrix, and oxidative stress after 2015. The trend of clinical aspects of surgery and mouth hygiene before 2015 has changed to the aspects of adverse event/effects, complication, and quality of life after 2015.
    Conclusion: This scientometric study elucidated the current scenario and research trends of OSF, and would help in improving in reciprocal collaboration and communication for this disease control in South/Southeast Asia.

       BACKGROUND: Pellicular macerations in the vinification of white wines involve the contact of grape skins and seeds with the must before, during or after alcoholic fermentation. Pre-fermentative pellicular maceration aims to enrich the must with volatile compounds and aroma precursors. Fermentative maceration occurs during alcoholic fermentation, whereas post-fermentative maceration is carried out after this process, associated with orange, amber or skin-contact wines, which have experienced a growing global demand in recent years. In this context, this research aimed to conduct a bibliometric review on pellicular macerations in white wines using two search strategies on the specific platform for the period from 2010 to 2023. Additionally, we sought to identify research trends in this segment of the wine industry through a comprehensive literature review of the retrieved documents.
    RESULTS: The results emphasized more studies on pre-fermentative pellicular maceration than on long-duration macerations during and after alcoholic fermentation. Alternative maceration techniques, such as grape freezing, were also observed as study subjects, including their effects on final wines. The research identified a wide variety of grapes explored in studies related to pellicular macerations of the Vitis vinifera L. species, with approximately 50 distinct nomenclatures identified. Regarding pre-fermentative macerations, the contact time varied from 2 to 60 h, with the temperature range 1-20 °C.
    CONCLUSION: The specific search for extended skin contact white wines revealed a limited number of available documents, indicating that studies related to this product style are promising and necessary, given the growing commercial relevance of this product profile. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.
