       PURPOSE: Since tethered cord syndrome (TCS) may lead to neurological and motor dysfunction, surgeries are often applied to relieve the symptom. The aim of the research was to explore the current global research trends of TCS surgery.
    METHODS: In this article, articles on TCS surgery in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) from 1980 to 2023 were searched. Research trends, countries, institutions, journals, authors, highly cited articles, and keywords were analyzed using bibliometric methods. The literature co-citation network was mapped using Vosviewer, and research hotspots and trends were analyzed using Citespace.
    RESULTS: A total of 432 publications were included. The number of publications and related research interest in the field of TCS surgery has increased globally year by year. The United States is the largest contributor (154 publications). The CHILDS NERVOUS SYSTEM has the highest number of publications (8 publications) and the most frequently cited journal is NEUROSURGERY (973 citations). In network visualization, the institution with the highest contribution is UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA SYSTEM (16 publications). Lee JY and Wang KC are the authors with the highest number of publications (8 publications) and the most frequently cited author is Klekamp J (268 citations). Neurogenic bladder and spina bifida may be the next hot spot in this field.
    CONCLUSION: This study will help researchers to identify the mainstream research directions and the latest hotspots in the field of TCS surgery and provide a reference for further research.

       Background: Generalised pustular psoriasis (GPP) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease. We aimed to visualize the research hotspots and trends of GPP using bibliometric analysis to enhance our comprehension of the future advancements in both basic science and clinical research.
    Methods: Relevant publications from July 2003 to July 2023 were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection on July 12, 2023. The analysis of countries, institutions, authors, references, and keywords associated with this subject was conducted through the utilisation of CiteSpace 6.2.R4, VOSviewer 1.6.18, and Microsoft Excel 2019.
    Results: A total of 578 papers were analyzed, authored by 2758 researchers from 191 countries/regions and 1868 institutions, published in 174 academic journals. There was an overall upward trajectory in the volume of annual publications, accompanied by a gradual intensification of research interest in GPP. The United States, UDICE-French Research Universities, and Akiyama M of Nagoya University were the most productive and influential country, institution, and author, respectively. The Journal of Dermatology ranked first with the highest publications, and the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology received the most citations. High-frequency keywords included "generalized pustular psoriasis", "psoriasis, interleukin-36", "plaque psoriasis", "skin-disease", and "antagonist deficiency". Recent research focuses have included "safety", "secukinumab", "spesolimab", "ap1s3 mutations", and "interleukin-36". Burst detection analysis of keywords showed that "moderate", "ixekizumab treatment", "mutations", "efficacy", and "safety" are current research frontiers in this field.
    Conclusion: This bibliometric analysis delineated the landmark publications in GPP that have defined current research hotspots and development trends, notably the applications, efficacy, and safety of biological agents. Future research endeavors are warranted to explore other biological therapeutic options for both acute GPP and the long-term management of chronic GPP.

      We sought to conduct a bibliometric analysis and review of the most cited publications relating to rugby since 2000 in order to identify topics of interest and those that warrant further investigations. Clarivate Web of Science database was used to perform a literature search using the search term "rugby." The top 200 papers by citation count were extracted and reviewed for the inclusion criteria: all subjects were rugby players. The top 50 manuscripts were included for analysis of author, publication year, country of lead authors, institution, journal name and impact factor, topic, participant sex, and level of rugby. The total number of citations was 9,071 (average of 181.4 citations/article), with an average journal impact factor of 7.21; the top article was cited 407 times at the time of analysis. The most frequent publication was the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research (26%), followed by the British Journal of Sports Medicine (20%) and the Journal of Sports Sciences (18%). Forty-eight (96%) of the manuscripts contained only male subjects, with 1 manuscript including females only and 1 manuscript containing mixed sexes. Thirty-three (66%) of the manuscripts focused on professional rugby players, with the next highest player group being mixed levels (10%). Twenty-eight (56%) concentrated on topics regarding strength and conditioning, 11 (22%) on injury, and 4 (8%) on physiology. Despite rugby being one of the most injurious sports and community players representing the largest component of the player pool, most of the top-cited rugby articles are cohort studies of professional male athletes focused on performance and strength and conditioning, noting the bias in research towards socially relevant topics that may not impact the majority of stakeholders and long-term health of rugby athletes. These findings highlight the need for further research among women and community athletes and on topics in injury prevention.

      This study offers a bibliometric and Scientometric examination of the existing body of literature on crowdfunding. The analysis incorporates a total of 1156 articles from the Scopus database. The data is presented using the bibliometric technique, employing R-studio and VOS viewer software. A Scientometric analysis was undertaken to ascertain the discoveries and patterns of research themes, current and future research orientations, impact, co-occurrence, co-citations, as well as trends in impact and collaboration. The literature on crowdfunding has exhibited significant growth from 2010 to 2023. The number of publications pertaining to crowdfunding has experienced substantial growth between the years 2020 and 2023. The highlighted research trends and collaboration trends encompass various aspects of crowdfunding and resource mobilization, including crowdfunding, fundraising, social capital, peer-to-peer lending, venture capital, and crowdfunding success. Additionally, this study offers an expanded scope for the study based on a comprehensive examination of existing literature. The outcomes of our study have the potential to offer valuable insights for forthcoming scholars, corporations, and regulatory bodies seeking to comprehend the present patterns and anticipated advancements in the field of crowdfunding research.

       Objective: Erector spina plane block (ESPB) was first described in 2016 and is effective in various surgical procedures. Bibliometric analysis is a novel method that evaluates the contribution of scientific studies conducted in a specific field on the existing literature. This study examined articles on ESPB published by anaesthesia clinics in Türkiye in journals under the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E) category.
    Methods: Studies on ESPB indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection and published in Türkiye from 2018 to 2022 were evaluated. The primary outcome was to determine the number of studies published in journals under the SCI-E category. The secondary aims were to determine the number of citations and the institutions where the studies were conducted.
    Results: A total of 159 publications were analyzed. The journal with the highest number of publications was "Journal of Clinical Anesthesia" (n = 70). The institution that has to date made the most contributions to the literature was Atatürk University (n = 31). The most cited article was "Ultrasound guided erector spinae plane block reduces postoperative opioid consumption following breast surgery: A randomized controlled study." published by Gürkan et al. (n = 175).
    Conclusion: This study reflects the contribution level of Türkiye-addressed anaesthesia clinics to journals under the SCI-E category. Our findings can serve as a benchmark for attracting the attention of national and international researchers.

       BACKGROUND: The success of modern medicine has led to surgery being performed on an increasingly older, frailer and more comorbid population. As a result, perioperative geriatrics has emerged as an important specialty, relevant to both medical and surgical disciplines. Only a small number of papers have been published on the topic. A bibliometric analysis is used to identify themes and trends in current research and practice.
    OBJECTIVES: To identify and describe research topics relating to perioperative geriatrics; to find themes and gaps in the current literature.
    METHODS: Thompson Reuters Web of Science indexing database was searched for all manuscripts relating to perioperative geriatrics. Of these, the top 100 were subcategorised into manuscript type, age, theme, specialty, journal and citation rate.
    RESULTS: The highest cited article was by Bhandari et al with 294 citations. The highest citation rate was achieved by Partridge et al, with 23.75 citations/year. Across the series, the mean number of citations was 50.41 (range 294-12). The highest number of manuscripts were published between 2010 and 2019 (n = 55), with 70% of manuscripts published in journals with impact factor <5. The specialty with the highest number of publications was orthopaedics (n = 36). Most articles focussed on surgical management of geriatrics patients, followed by anaesthetic management.
    CONCLUSION: This is the first bibliometric analysis of the top 100 most cited papers in perioperative geriatrics. Only 395 papers were returned, indicating that this needs to be further researched as a topic. Key themes identified were surgical management of hip fractures and anaesthetic preoperative assessment. Emerging themes from this study highlight the need for perioperative publications in the fields of geriatric vascular, general, plastic and gynaecology.

       Background: Post-stroke dysphagia (PSD) is one of the most prevalent stroke sequelae, affecting stroke patients' prognosis, rehabilitation results, and quality of life while posing a significant cost burden. Although studies have been undertaken to characterize the pathophysiology, epidemiology, and risk factors of post-stroke dysphagia, there is still a paucity of research trends and hotspots on this subject. The purpose of this study was to create a visual knowledge map based on bibliometric analysis that identifies research hotspots and predicts future research trends.
    Methods: We searched the Web of Science Core Collection for material on PSD rehabilitation research from its inception until July 27, 2023. We used CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Bibliometrix R software packages to evaluate the annual number of publications, nations, institutions, journals, authors, references, and keywords to describe present research hotspots and prospective research orientations.
    Results: This analysis comprised 1,097 articles from 3,706 institutions, 374 journals, and 239 countries or regions. The United States had the most publications (215 articles), and it is the most influential country on the subject. "Dysphagia" was the most published journal (100 articles) and the most referenced journal (4,606 citations). Highly cited references focused on the pathophysiology and neuroplasticity mechanisms of PSD, therapeutic modalities, rehabilitation tactics, and complications prevention. There was a strong correlation between the terms "validity" and "noninvasive," which were the strongest terms in PSD rehabilitation research. The most significant words in PSD rehabilitation research were "validity" and "noninvasive brain stimulation," which are considered two of the most relevant hotspots in the field.
    Conclusion: We reviewed the research in the field of PSD rehabilitation using bibliometrics to identify research hotspots and cutting-edge trends in the field, primarily including the pathogenesis and neurological plasticity mechanisms of PSD, complications, swallowing screening and assessment methods, and swallowing rehabilitation modalities, and this paper can provide in the follow-up research in the field of PSD rehabilitation. The results of this study can provide insightful data for subsequent studies in the field of PSD rehabilitation.

       Background and objectives: Global aging has increased the importance of health management in older adults. Exercise is a crucial strategy for healthy aging and has led to numerous scientific advancements due to its impact on age-related illnesses. We aim to investigate the research hotspots, bursts of knowledge base, and trends in the field of exercise and physical activity in older adults over the past decade and present them in a visual manner.
    Methods: We searched and retrieved data from the Web of Science database, and performed a bibliometric analysis of publications on exercise and physical activity research in older adults from 2013 to 2022. We evaluated the current status and hotspots through co-occurrence analysis using VOSviewer. The evolution and bursts of knowledge base were assessed through co-citation analysis using CiteSpace. Thematic evolution was analyzed using the bibliometrix package to discover keyword trends. The attribution and collaboration of countries/regions, institutions and authors were also analyzed.
    Results: A total of 27,820 publications were included. Publications on exercise and physical activity in older adults increased from 1755 records in 2013-3737 records in 2022 annually. In co-occurrence analysis of keywords, 5 major clusters were revealed: sarcopenia, cognition, frailty, mental health, and rehabilitation. Co-citation analysis reveals that the knowledge base has evolved from references focused on frailty, dementia, and physical activity before 2016 to references focus on sarcopenia, cognition and sedentary behavior after 2020. Among the top 10 high-frequency keywords, sarcopenia demonstrated a consistent and significant upward trend, with its percentage increasing from 8.7 % (82 times) in 2016 to 12.2 % (236 times) in the most recent year, making it the most frequently used keyword. Frailty ranked second, starting at 5.6 % (41 times) in 2013 and gradually rising to 11.7 % (225 times) in 2022. The most productive country, institution and author were the USA (8212 publications), the University of Pittsburgh(501 publications), and Brendon Stubbs(94 publications), respectively.
    Discussion: Publications on exercise and physical activity for older adults have surged in the last decade, accompanied by a shift in the knowledge base. Regional disparities in the academic output in this field need to be addressed in the future to promote healthy aging.

       Background: Gene therapy involves introducing and editing foreign genes in the body to treat and prevent genetic diseases. Adeno-associated virus (AAV) vector has become a widely used tool in gene therapy due to its high safety and transfection efficiency.
    Methods: This study employs bibliometric analysis to explore the foundation and current state of AAV vector application in gene therapy research. A total of 6,069 publications from 1991 to 2022 were analyzed, retrieved from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E) within the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) of Clarivate Analytics. Institutions, authors, journals, references, and keywords were analyzed and visualized by using VOSviewer and CiteSpace. The R language and Microsoft Excel 365 were used for statistical analyses.
    Results: The global literature on AAV vector and gene therapy exhibited consistent growth, with the United States leading in productivity, contributing 3,868 papers and obtaining the highest H-index. Noteworthy authors like Wilson JM, Samulski RJ, Hauswirth WW, and Mingozzi F were among the top 10 most productive and co-cited authors. The journal "Human Gene Therapy" published the most papers (n = 485) on AAV vector and gene therapy. Current research focuses on "gene editing," "gene structure," "CRISPR," and "AAV gene therapy for specific hereditary diseases."
    Conclusion: The application of AAV vector in gene therapy has shown continuous growth, fostering international cooperation among countries and institutions. The intersection of gene editing, gene structure, CRISPR, and AAV gene therapy for specific hereditary diseases and AAV vector represents a prominent and prioritized focus in contemporary gene therapy research. This study provides valuable insights into the trends and characteristics of AAV gene therapy research, facilitating further advancements in the field.

       AIM: To perform an analysis of the trends, indicators, and characteristics of the world scientific production on fluorosis, and to evaluate its impact on scientific research in this field.
    MATERIALS AND METHODS: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted with a bibliometric approach of the worldwide scientific production on fluorosis published during the years 2018-2023. All metadata were extracted from the Scopus database. The articles were exported in .csv format to SciVal (Elsevier). Of the collected articles, 69 were original, 17 were reviews, 2 were conference papers, 6 were book chapters, among others.
    RESULTS: It was found that among the journals with the highest number of articles were Biological Trace Element, Caries Research, Children, Fluoride, and Indian Journal of Forensics. In addition, the highest percentage of authors have published between 1 and 2 articles, with a smaller proportion having 3-4 publications. Among the journals with the highest number of articles are Biological Trace Element, Caries Research, Children, Fluoride, and Indian Journal of Forensics. The Universidade de São Paulo has the most publications, although it is also one of those with the lowest citation-weighted impact in relation to the global average (FWCI: 0.9).
    CONCLUSION: The collaboration map shows a wide international cooperation network, with an active participation of Brazil among Latin American countries. Scientific production in fluorosis has a negative trend from 2018 to 2023 and is mainly concentrated in high-impact scientific journals.
    CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The study shows a wide network of international cooperation on fluorosis, so the results provide important information to guide future clinically focused research on fluorosis and its impact on public health.

       Objective: Although studies on the association between COPD and lung cancer are of great significance, no bibliometric analysis has been conducted in the field of their comorbidity. This bibliometric analysis explores the current situation and frontier trends in the field of COPD and lung cancer comorbidity, and to lay a new direction for subsequent research.
    Methods: Articles in the field of COPD and cancer comorbidity were retrieved from Web of Science Core Collections (WoSCC) from 2004 to 2023, and analyzed by VOSviewer, CiteSpace, Biblimatrix and WPS Office.
    Results: In total, 3330 publications were included. The USA was the leading country with the most publications and great influence. The University of Groningen was the most productive institution. Edwin Kepner Silverman was the most influential scholar in this field. PLOS One was found to be the most prolific journal. Mechanisms and risk factors were of vital importance in this research field. Environmental pollution and pulmonary fibrosis may be future research prospects.
    Conclusion: This bibliometric analysis provided new guidance for the development of the field of COPD and lung cancer comorbidity by visualizing current research hotspots, and predicting possible hot research directions in the future.

      Over the past 11 years, mounting evidence has suggested a significant association between ferroptosis and the development and progression of musculoskeletal (MSK) diseases, such as osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. However, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis summarizing the relationship between ferroptosis and MSK diseases is currently lacking. The present study collected articles and reviews on the topic of ferroptosis in MSK diseases. The data were collected from January 1st, 2012 to June 30th, 2023 by screening the Web of Science database. Various tools, including VOSviewer, CiteSpace, Pajek, the R package, and others, were used to conduct bibliometric and visualization analyses. Notably, China, the USA, and Italy emerged as primary contributors, jointly accounting for over 80 % of published documents, thereby shaping research in this domain. Among the diverse institutions, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Soochow University, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology displayed the highest productivity levels. The most prolific authors include Sun Kai, Shang Peng, and Jing Xingzhi. Oxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity stood out with the largest number of publications in this area. The five most significant disorders in this field are bone fractures, osteosarcoma, bone neoplasms, joint diseases, and osteoporotic fractures. This study represents an inaugural comprehensive bibliometric analysis, presenting a holistic view of the knowledge framework and developmental patterns in ferroptosis concerning MSK diseases over the previous eleven years. This information can aid researchers in acquiring a thorough grasp of this domain and offer invaluable insights for forthcoming explorations.

       BACKGROUND: Distraction osteogenesis (DO) has found extensive use in oral and maxillofacial surgery for correcting maxillofacial deformities due to its numerous advantages. However, comprehensive scientific and visual analyses of this field on a global scale are rare. Therefore, this study aims to provide a summary of the global trends and current status of DO in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
    METHOD: Publications concerning DO in oral and maxillofacial surgery were comprehensively searched and selected from the Web of Science Core Collection(WOSCC) database. We evaluated the annual contributions from institutions, journals, countries, and authors using bibliometric analysis software.
    RESULTS: A total of 541 publications were included in this study. The USA played a predominant role in this field, leading in both publication volume and international collaboration. Harvard University and the University of Hong Kong secured the top position in total publications, while the University of Texas System topped the list in total citations within this field. The Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery emerged as the primary contributing journal, and Cheung LX emerged as the primary contributing author in the field of distraction osteogenesis (DO) in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Keywords such as 'orthognathic surgery,' 'reconstruction,' and 'osteogenesis' are anticipated to be prominent topics in future research.
    CONCLUSION: Between 1995 and 2023, there has been rapid growth in the total number of publications within the field of distraction osteogenesis (DO) in oral and maxillofacial surgery. The USA stands out as the predominant country in this field. Surgeries, orthognathic surgery, and osteogenesis have emerged as prominent topics. The findings of our study offer valuable insights for scholars seeking to identify research hotspots and chart the developmental direction of DO in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

      Telematics technology and its implementation in auto insurance have received great interest due to their potential to transform the insurance sector and promote safer driving practices. By implementing telematics technology, insurers may tailor insurance premiums to individual drivers, taking into account their real driving habits and performance, ultimately leading to improved road safety, cost savings, and an empowered driving community. The current study, through bibliometric analysis, carefully identifies and evaluates the existing body of scholarly literature on this subject for the last 21 years, including journal articles, conference papers, and related publications. The analysis uncovers key research studies, influential authors, top publication outlets, top countries with collaborations, and prolific research fields, providing useful insights into the evolution and growth of telematics-based insurance research. Furthermore, thematic mapping, cluster analysis, and critical analysis of top recent studies aided in identifying key research clusters and themes, as well as potential gaps and areas for further exploration, guiding future researchers and policymakers in advancing this transformative technology.

       Objective: To analyze the current research status, hotspots, and frontiers in the field of Gastrointestinal (GI) cancer and quality of life (QoL) through the bibliometrics method, and to provide references and guidance for future research.
    Methods: Literature related to GI cancer and QoL from April 1, 2003 to March 31, 2023 was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. CiteSpace 6.2.R1 was performed for collaboration analysis, keyword co-occurrence analysis, and document co-citation analysis.
    Results: A total of 1224 publications were included in this study. There has been a significant increase in the number of publications in this field over the past two decades. The United States, the Karolinska Institute and the University of Amsterdam, and Pernilla Lagergren are the most prolific country, institution, and author, respectively. The links between most of the research constituents were relatively thin (centrality <0.1). The keyword analysis indicates that the benefits of physical activity on QoL, the levels of psychological distress and its relationship with QoL, as well as the development and validation of QoL measurement tools have been the research hotspots. Open-label/double-blind trials exploring therapeutic interventions and more targeted new drugs or more effective drug combinations, and longitudinal studies determining the direction of the association between psychological distress and QoL at different time points, may be emerging trends in this field.
    Conclusion: The cooperation among countries, institutions, and authors in this field should be strengthened. In addition, the health benefits of light physical activity, interventions for QoL, trajectory and direction of the relationship between psychological distress and QoL may be the focus of future research.

       INTRODUCTION: Previous work has demonstrated a deficiency in urology resident education when it comes to andrology and male infertility. We analyzed the top 100 most frequently cited and influential articles published on testosterone deficiency and its associated therapy, allowing trainees and clinicians to review and understand the characteristics of impactful literature for self-directed learning purposes.
    METHODS: The ISI Web of Knowledge database was used to find articles on testosterone deficiency, hypogonadism, and replacement therapies. Relevant, peer-reviewed, English articles were included. Article details, including title, citation count, publication year, and more, were gathered. Articles were classified based on content (e.g. clinical outcomes, anatomy, and trends) using defined criteria.
    RESULTS: The top 300 most cited were reviewed with 100 included. The most cited article had 774 citations, averaging 234 in the top 100. Publication years had peaks in 2003-2004 and 2006-2007. The US led in publications (56), followed by England (16), Germany (14), and Italy (13). Common affiliations included US Department of Veteran Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, RIC Research Education Clinical Center, and University of California System. Articles were categorized as LOE 2 (47), LOE 1 (22), and LOE 5 (21). Articles focused on clinical outcomes (71.7%), anatomy/biomechanics/physiology (14.1%), clinical guidelines (8.1%), and screening (4%). The "Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism" published 26 of the top 100 cited articles.
    CONCLUSIONS: This analysis highlights influential articles regarding testosterone deficiency and management. The discussed articles have significant clinical and therapeutic implications for the practicing urologist which may bolster deficits in current resident education.

       BACKGROUND: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease characterized by chronic systemic inflammation, leading to joint deformities and functional loss. RA progression is accompanied by abnormalities in the coagulation-fibrinolysis system, clinically manifested as a hypercoagulable state. However, there are currently no bibliometrics or visualization analysis in this field.
    OBJECTIVE: The present study aims to reveal the knowledge structure, research status, and research trends related to hypercoagulability in RA through bibliometric analysis and to evaluate the utility of inflammatory and coagulation markers in RA disease activity through retrospective data mining.
    METHODS: English articles and reviews on RA hypercoagulability published from 2010 to 2023 were extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database on March 1, 2023. VOSviewer and CiteSpace software were used for knowledge mapping analysis of the included papers in terms of countries/regions, institutions, journals, authors, keywords, research hotspots, and frontiers. A retrospective analysis was conducted on the general information on RA patients. The demographic and clinical indicators of all participants were collected to determine the correlation of inflammatory and coagulation markers with the Chinese patient-reported activity index for rheumatoid arthritis (CPRI-RA).
    RESULTS: A total of 957 papers were retrieved. The United States was the most productive country in this field and had the highest h-index, and the most prolific institution was the Karolinska Institute. The Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases was the journal with the most publications, and KLARESKOG L. was the most productive author. From keyword analysis, it could be seen that "inflammation", "activation", "disease-activity", and "risk" had long been the focuses of RA hypercoagulability research. "Criteria", "validation", "coagulation", "target", and "anemia" were the latest popular keywords in the past 5 years. Retrospective data mining revealed that the levels of inflammation (RF, ESR, and CRP) and coagulation (PLT and DD) were significantly increased in RA patients. FBG, CRP, and ESR were significantly correlated with CPRI-RA. Additionally, ESR, CRP, and FBG were identified as independent risk factors for CPRI-RA.
    CONCLUSION: The mechanism and application of hypercoagulability in RA have been research hotspots in recent years. Inflammation and coagulation markers are independent risk factors for CPRI-RA.

       BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Since its initial report by James Parkinson in 1817, Parkinson's disease (PD) has remained a central subject of research and clinical advancement. The disease is estimated to affect approximately 1% of adults aged 60 and above. Deep brain stimulation, emerging as an alternative therapy for end-stage cases, has offered a lifeline to numerous patients. This review aimed to analyze publications pertaining to the impact of deep brain stimulation on the motor pathway in patients with PD over the last decade.
    METHODS: Data were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection through the library of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (China). The search strategy encompassed the following keywords: "deep brain stimulation", "Parkinson's disease", "motor pathway", and "human", from January 1, 2012, to December 1, 2022. Additionally, this review visualized the findings using the Citespace software.
    RESULTS: The results indicated that the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and China were the primary contributors to this research field. University College London, Capital Medical University, and Maastricht University were the top 3 research institutions in the research area. Tom Foltynie ranked first with 6 publications, and the journals of Brain and Brain Stimulation published the greatest number of relevant articles. The prevailing research focal points in this domain, as determined by keywords "burst analysis", "encompassed neuronal activity", "nucleus", "hyper direct pathway", etc. CONCLUSION: This study has provided a new perspective through bibliometric analysis of the deep brain stimulation therapy for treating patients with PD, which can shed light on future research to advance our comprehension of this particular field of study.

       BACKGROUND: Meningioma, the most prevalent benign intracranial neoplasm, has been extensively studied for many years, but significant problems still exist. So far, there has been a scarcity of detailed summaries conducted to elucidate the research hotspots and future directions of meningiomas.
    METHODS: A comprehensive search and screening strategy was employed to collect studies from 2011 to 2021 in the Web of Science Core Collection database. Thorough and systematic co-authorship and co-occurrence keyword maps were generated, and statistics tables summarizing countries, organizations, authors, and keywords were created.
    RESULTS: A total of 1544 articles meeting the screening criteria were collected. The results indicated that the United States, Germany, and China produced the highest number of publications from 2011 to 2021, with 586, 244, and 197 records, respectively. The cooperation networks also mainly revolved around these three countries, particularly the United States. The keyword with the most frequency was "surgery", followed by "recurrence" and "management", with the frequencies of 248, 212, and 163, respectively. The most prominent cluster during the last decade was #0 methylation cluster and serveral keywords like "survival", "brain invasion", and "magnetic resonance imaging" exhibited significant burst strength.
    CONCLUSIONS: This study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis that evaluated the research landscape and identifies potential research directions. The findings of our study disclosed productive individuals and institutions. The current research focuses on the molecular pathology of meningiomas, improvements in techniques, and advancements in MRI diagnosis. Especially the molecular pathology improvement might lead the future research directions.

       OBJECTIVE: Award-winning abstracts are selected every year at the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA) annual meeting as "best paper" or poster. It is unknown how many achieve publication in peer-reviewed journals and the impact they have. We sought to determine the characteristics, including the level of evidence (LoE), publication rates, and the impact of award-winning abstracts on pediatric orthopaedic surgery practice from 2009 to 2019.
    METHODS: Award-winning abstracts or "best papers" from 2009 to 2019 were retrospectively reviewed from the POSNA website from abstract publication to manuscript publication. A search across Pubmed was used to match abstracts to their publications by comparing author names, titles, study design and methodology, results, and conclusions. Area of focus, abstract authors, institutions, publication status, LoE, time to publication, authors of publication, journals of publication, and the journal's latest Hirsch Index and impact factor were recorded.
    RESULTS: There have been 54 "best papers" at the POSNA annual meeting from 2009 to 2019. Of those, 39 have been published across 17 different journals for a publication rate of 72%. The average time from abstract presentation to publication was 21.2 months with a range of 0 to 121 months. Of the published award-winning abstracts, 64% (25) were published within 2 years, 87% (34) within 3 years, and 95% (37) within 4 years. Out of the published abstracts, 26% (10) were in the Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics, 23% (9) were in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, and 10% (4) were in the Journal of Child Orthopaedics. The median number of abstract authors was 4 and increased to a median of 6 authors once published. Most award-winning abstracts had a LoE of 3. The average journal impact factor for all publications was 4; the average Hirsch Index for the corresponding author was 29.9, and the average number of citations for a publication was 41 with a range of 0 to 270.
    CONCLUSIONS: The majority of the "best papers" presented at POSNA annual meetings from 2009 to 2019 were published in peer-reviewed journals within 2 years of presentation, with approximately half being published in the Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics or Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. The publication rate of "best papers" at the POSNA annual meeting was found to be higher than rates reported for abstracts presented at the annual meetings of POSNA, American Society for Surgery of the Hand and European Pediatric Orthopaedic Society, but similar to the rates observed for American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and Orthopaedic Trauma Association. Most of the selected "best papers" at the POSNA annual meeting are published and have a substantial impact on pediatric orthopaedic surgery practice.

       Background and Aim: Treatment of endometriosis involves pain relief which is achieved through the administration of analgesics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, with or without the addition of hormone therapy. At present, studies investigating endometriosis pain management using experimental rat models and the use of medications are scarce. Therefore, this study aimed to systematically evaluate research trends and critical points in the field of endometriosis pain management using experimental models.
    Materials and Methods: A total of 30 publications related to this topic that were published from 2012 to 2022 were retrieved from various databases, including Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, Embase, and CINAHL, using appropriate English keywords. The quality of the publications was evaluated using impact metrics, productivity, term density mapping, and author network.
    Results: The average publication rate was three articles per year, reaching its peak in 2021 at five articles per year. The United States and China were found to be the most productive countries, with 12 and 10 publications per year, respectively. The field of medicine (37.0%) was the most abundant, although the H-index was relatively low (13:13). Term density mapping involved the search of 542 keywords, of which 35 were selected, with only 8 exhibiting significant density.
    Conclusion: In the past decade, there has been a shortage of publications that have addressed pain in endometriosis in experimental models and, within this context the majority of the production and publication in this field has been performed by the United States and China. After performing this bibliometric review, it can be inferred that more research is required in this field, to develop new approaches and treatments for endometriotic pain.

      As the pace of research on nanomedicine for musculoskeletal (MSK) diseases accelerates, there remains a lack of comprehensive analysis regarding the development trajectory, primary authors, and research focal points in this domain. Additionally, there's a need of detailed elucidation of potential research hotspots. The study gathered articles and reviews focusing on the utilization of nanoparticles (NPs) for MSK diseases published between 2013 and 2023, extracted from the Web of Science database. Bibliometric and visualization analyses were conducted using various tools such as VOSviewer, CiteSpace, Pajek, Scimago Graphica, and the R package. China, the USA, and India emerged as the key drivers in this research domain. Among the numerous institutions involved, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Sichuan University exhibited the highest productivity levels. Vallet-Regi Maria emerged as the most prolific author in this field. International Journal of Nanomedicine accounted for the largest number of publications in this area. The top five disorders of utmost significance in this field include osteosarcoma, cartilage diseases, bone fractures, bone neoplasms, and joint diseases. These findings are instrumental in providing researchers with a comprehensive understanding of this domain and offer valuable perspectives for future investigations.

       BACKGROUND: The Gaza-Israeli conflict poses challenges for unbiased reporting due to its complexity and media bias. We explored recent scientific publications to understand scholarly discourse and potential biases surrounding this longstanding geopolitical issue.
    OBJECTIVES: To conduct a descriptive bibliometric analysis of PubMed articles regarding the recent Gaza-Israeli conflict.
    METHODS: We reviewed 1628 publications using keywords and medical subject headings (MeSH) terms related to Gaza, Hamas, and Israel. We focused on articles written in English. A team of researchers assessed inclusion criteria, resolving disagreements through a third researcher.
    RESULTS: Among 37 publications, Lancet, BMJ, and Nature were prominent journals. Authors from 12 countries contributed, with variety of publication types (46% correspondence, 32% news). Pro-Gaza perspectives dominated (43.2%), surpassing pro-Israel (21.6%) and neutral (35.1%) viewpoints. Pro-Gaza articles exhibited higher Altmetric scores, indicating increased social media impact. Pro-Israel publications were predominantly authored by Israelis.
    CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of pro-Gaza perspectives underscores challenges in maintaining impartiality. Higher social media impact for pro-Gaza publications emphasizes the need for nuanced examination. Addressing bias is crucial for a comprehensive understanding of this complex conflict and promoting balanced reporting.

       BACKGROUND: Diverse representation in the field of patient blood management (PBM) may help bring varying perspectives to improve patient care. We assessed trends in gender of first and last authorship of recent PBM publications to evaluate diversity within the field.
    METHODS: Publications from 10 high-impact anesthesiology and blood transfusion medicine journals between 2017 and 2021 were reviewed using 19 keywords to identify PBM-related articles. Each publication title was reviewed independently to determine whether it met the inclusion criteria. A software program was used to identify the gender of each first and last author for the most common first names. Author gender that could not be identified through this process was determined by querying institutional websites and professional social networks (eg, ResearchGate). Any publication where the gender of the first and/or last author could not be reliably determined was excluded from the analysis. Trends over time were assessed using the Cochran-Armitage test.
    RESULTS: A total of 2467 publications met the inclusion criteria of the 2873 yielded by the initial search. Gender of the first and last author was identified for 2384 of these publications and included in the final analysis. Approximately 42.8% of publications featured a woman as the first author with the highest from the journals such as the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) (48.7%) and Transfusion (48.1%) and the lowest from the journals such as the British Journal of Anaesthesia (24.1%) and Anesthesia & Analgesia (24.4%). Approximately 32.0% of the publications featured a woman as the last author with the highest being Transfusion (36.9%) and Anaesthesia (31.8%) and the lowest being Anesthesia and Analgesia (18.3%) and Anesthesiology (18.6%). Approximately 57.6% of publications had either a woman as the first or last author while 16.3% of the publications had women as both the first and last authors. Women authors comprised 32.6% of the publications with a single author. Women as the first or last authors did not change significantly over the study period (P = .115 and P = .119, respectively). No significant difference was observed in the percentage of PBM articles with a woman as the first or last author, a woman as the first and last author, or a woman as a single author from 2017 to 2021 (P = .089, P = .055, and P = .226, respectively).
    CONCLUSIONS: The percentage of women as the first and last authors in PBM publications from the 5-year period of 2017 to 2021 was <50%. Gender equity in PBM authorship was identified as an area for potential future improvement. International mentorship and sponsorship of women remain important in promoting gender equity in PBM authorship.

       INTRODUCTION: Gender inequalities persist in several areas of medicine, despite the growing number of female doctors and medical students. In this study, we aimed to reveal the gender inequality in the top journals' editorial boards and national societies' leadership positions in the field of neurology and neurosurgery.
    METHOD: This is a cross-sectional study that uses public information accessed through the internet via journals' and academic societies' public websites. The medical journals are selected and included according to their h5-index in the field of neurology and neurosurgery. We evaluated the gender composition of the editorial boards and academic societies' leadership positions.
    RESULTS: The female editorial board member ratio was 44.0% in the top 10 neurology journals. However, this ratio was significantly decreased to 29.7% in the other journals(p<0.001). The top 10 neurosurgery journals had a female editorial board member ratio of 13.7%. This ratio was significantly decreased to 5.3% in the other 10 journals with lower h5-index(p<0.001). A significantly lower number of female individuals are present in the editorial boards of the neurosurgery journals than in neurology(p<0.001). The female president or delegate ratio was 19.3% in the WFN-affiliated countries, and it was 4% in the WFNS-affiliated countries.
    CONCLUSION: In conclusion, there is a significant gender inequality among editorial board members. The position of neurosurgical societies and journals is far different than the field of neurology. Furthermore, these findings should be evaluated as a continuum of the gender inequality in the professional societies' executive boards and delegates representing the national academical community.

      The NIH's Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) consortium aims to accelerate translational processes that move discoveries from bench to bedside. The COVID-19 pandemic presented unmatched challenges and applications for CTSA hubs nationwide. Our study used bibliometrics to assess features of COVID-19 publications supported by the national CTSA program to characterize the consortium's response to the pandemic. Our goal was to understand relative scientific influence, collaboration across hubs, and trends in research emphasis over time. We identified publications from NIH's curated iSearch COVID-19 Publication Portfolio from February 2020-February 2023; 3,234 peer-reviewed articles relevant to COVID-19 cited a CTSA grant. All 66 CTSA hubs were represented, with large-size and longstanding hubs contributing more publications. Most publications cited UL1 grants, 457 cited KL2/TL1 training grants, and 164 cited multiple hub grants. Compared to a random sample of non-CTSA-supported COVID-19 publications, the CTSA portfolio exhibited greater clinical relevance, more human research, and higher altmetric and citation influence. Results were similar for multi-hub publications involving networked initiatives like multi-site clinical trials or the National COVID-19 Cohort Collaborative (N3C). Shifts from molecular/cellular-oriented research toward human-oriented research over time were evident, demonstrating translation in action. Results illuminate how the CTSA consortium confronted the pandemic through high-quality projects oriented toward human research, working across hubs on high-value collaborations, advancing along the translational spectrum over time. Findings validate CTSA hubs as critical support structures during health emergencies.

       Purpose: The outbreak of COVID-19 has led to a global pandemic with millions of cases and deaths. Many randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were conducted to establish effective therapies. However, the methodological quality of these trials is paramount, as it directly impacts the reliability of results. This systematic review and bibliometric analysis aim to assess the methodological approach, execution diversity, global trends, and distribution of COVID-19 treatment RCTs post-outbreak, covering the period from the second wave and onward up to the present.
    Methods: We utilize articles from three electronic databases published from September 1, 2020, to April 1, 2023. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied to identify relevant RCTs. Data extraction involved the collection of various study details. Risk of Bias (RoB) 2 tool assessed methodological quality, while implementation variability was evaluated against registration information. Bibliometric analysis, including keyword co-occurrence and country distribution, used VOSviewer and Tableau software.
    Results: Initially, 501 studies were identified, but only 22 met the inclusion criteria, of which 19 had registration information. The methodological quality assessment revealed deficiencies in five main domains: randomization process (36%), deviations from intended interventions (9%), missing outcome data (4%), measurement of the outcome (18%), and selection of reported results (4%). An analysis of alignment between research protocols and registration data revealed common deviations in eight critical aspects. Bibliometric findings showcased global collaboration in COVID-19 treatment RCTs, with Iran and Brazil prominently contributing, while keyword co-occurrence analysis illuminated prominent research trends and terms in study titles and abstracts.
    Conclusion: This study offers valuable insights into the evaluation of COVID-19 treatment RCTs. The scarcity of high-quality RCTs highlights the importance of enhancing trial rigor and transparency in global health emergencies.

      Currently, there is no standard for the citation of food composition data. This leads to the questions: how are food and nutrient data cited in research papers, and are they presented in a way that allows studies to be reproduced? To answer these questions, we performed a review of the literature and quantified the accuracy and completeness of data citations from publications (January to December 2020) in the top 5 nutrition journals as ranked by the Scimago Journal Rankings. We then performed a review of citation guidelines currently in place in other disciplines. Similar to the requirement of completing the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses checklist for systematic reviews, we have developed a comprehensive data citation checklist, the Comprehensive Food Data Citation (CFDC) checklist. The CFDC checklist was developed through a benchmarking assessment against established data citation standards. Its purpose is to establish a standardized, best-practice approach for reporting food composition data. The CFDC checklist has been designed to cater to both publishers and authors, ensuring consistency and accuracy in food composition data reporting. The CFDC checklist is also available as an interactive citation generator to facilitate the adoption of consistent and comprehensive citation of food composition data and is available at https://www.nutrientinstitute.org/cfdc. Despite general agreement that accurate data citation is paramount, this is the first citation standard specifically developed to capture food composition data. Because food composition data are the foundation of nutrition research, our proposed guidelines aim to provide the field with a much-needed foundation for acknowledging and sharing data in a way that fosters reproducibility.

       Motivation: Development of bioinformatics methods is a long, complex and resource-hungry process. Hundreds of these tools were released. While some methods are highly cited and used, many suffer relatively low citation rates. We empirically analyze a large collection of recently released methods in three diverse protein function and disorder prediction areas to identify key factors that contribute to increased citations.
    Results: We show that provision of a working web server significantly boosts citation rates. On average, methods with working web servers generate three times as many citations compared to tools that are available as only source code, have no code and no server, or are no longer available. This observation holds consistently across different research areas and publication years. We also find that differences in predictive performance are unlikely to impact citation rates. Overall, our empirical results suggest that a relatively low-cost investment into the provision and long-term support of web servers would substantially increase the impact of bioinformatics tools.
