Background: Cryptorchidism is defined as failure of unilateral or bilateral testicular descent, which increases the risk of infertility and testicular carcinoma. Although there is much research on cryptorchidism, few studies have used the bibliometric analysis method. The purpose of this study was to conduct a comprehensive analysis of cryptorchidism from muti-dimensional perspectives to summarize the research hotspots and trends in cryptorchidism research.
Methods: Relevant studies on cryptorchidism were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database from 2000 to 2022. A comprehensive bibliometric analysis of cryptorchidism was performed by using the CiteSpace, Tableau Public, and VOSviewer software, including the annual distributions of publications, countries, authors, institutions, journals, references, and keywords.
Results: From January 1st, 2000 to May 17th, 2022, a total of 5023 papers concerning cryptorchidism were identified for analysis. The USA contributed the most publications (n = 1193) in this field, and the annual number of publications rose rapidly in China. The University of Melbourne published the largest number of papers (n = 131). "Hutson, John M." was the most core author ranked by publications (n = 51), and "Skakkebaek, Niels E." enjoyed the largest number of citations (4441). The JOURNAL OF UROLOGY published the largest number of papers (n = 225), while the average citations per publication of the 75 papers in HUMAN REPRODUCTION reached 62.38. Additionally, burstness analysis of references and keywords showed that cryptorchidism research was mainly focused on the exploration of the optimal mode of treatment for cryptorchidism, including hypogonadism such as Kallmann syndrome and Klinefelter syndrome.
Conclusion: Cryptorchidism has attracted continuous attention from the scientific community concerned. International collaboration in the field has witnessed significant growth in recent years and remains essential to further enhance collaborative efforts between scholars from different countries. In addition, the exploration of the optimal treatment modality for cryptorchidism, especially in the prevention of adult infertility, remains a major focus of future research. High-quality follow-up studies are also needed in the future. The pathogenesis (especially at the genetic level) and treatment of hypogonadism such as Kallmann syndrome and Klinefelter syndrome have attracted increasing attention recently, which may usher in some breakthroughs in coming years.

Ferroptosis is a form of regulated cell death that was first formally proposed a decade ago. While its role in cancer cell death was initially understudied, it has recently gained considerable interest from researchers. In recent years, a growing number of studies have focused on the role of ferroptosis in cancer progression, with the goal of developing novel ferroptosis-inducing cancer therapies. This study aims to present the developmental trend and hotspots of research on ferroptosis-inducing cancer therapy using bibliometric analysis. A literature search was conducted using the Web of Science Core Collection on October 1st, 2022, to retrieve articles and reviews pertaining to ferroptosis and cancer published from 2012 to 2022. Microsoft Excel 2016, VOSviewer 1.6.18 and CiteSpace (version 6.1. R6) were utilized to conduct the bibliometric analysis of publication trends, authorship, and citation networks, with a focus on identifying countries, institutions, journals, and authors contributing to the field. These analyses were used to predict future trends in this area. A total of 2839 articles were identified and extracted for analysis. The number of publications has increased almost every year, with a sharp increase after 2018. China produced the most publications in this area, followed by the United States.       Seed priming (SP) treatments are widely used in agriculture and restoration to improve seed germination and seedling vigor. Although there exists a considerable amount of scientific literature on SP, it has seldom undergone visual and quantitative analyses. To gain insights into the patterns observed in SP research over the last three decades, we conducted a bibliometric analysis using the Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCI-E) database, aiming to minimize the similarity score in plagiarism detection. This analysis offers a thorough examination of yearly publications, temporal patterns in keyword usage, the top-performing journals, authors, institutions, and countries within the field of SP. Our research findings suggest a steady annual increase of 10.59% in the volume of SP publications, accompanied by a significant upward trajectory in the average citations received per paper annually. According to the analysis of keywords, it was found that "priming" and "germination" emerged as the most frequently used terms in the field of SP research. Seed Science and Technology ranked first among the top journals, and Plant Physiology had greater influence in the field of SP in terms of number of citations. The majority of the top 10 productive institutions were situated in developing countries. In addition, these nations exhibited the highest volume of published works and citations. Our analysis revealed a shift in research focus within the field of SP over the past three decades, transitioning from agricultural science to encompass plant science and environmental science. With the growing recognition of SP's research across different disciplines, there exist abundant prospects for international and interdisciplinary partnerships, collaborative organizations, and progress in this field.

Acute lung injury (ALI) is a prevalent critical disorder that disrupts the body's homeostasis in patients. The progression from ALI to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is often accompanied by programmed cell death (PCD). However, there has been a lack of systematic research and comprehensive analysis on the role of different types of PCD in ALI/ARDS. This study aims to analyze the research status, trends, research hotspots, and compare the contribution of publications from different countries, institutions, journals and authors in the field of PCD in ALI/ARDS using bibliometric analysis. We collected publications regard to PCD and ALI/ARDS from Web of Science during 2000-2022. VOSviewer, Citespace, Scimago Graphica, Pajek, and GraphPad Prism 9.0 software were used for further analyzed and visualized. We identified a total of 3495 publications. The number of publications has increased since the beginning of the new century. China produced the most publications (1965), while the United States ranks first in the number of citations (40141). Shanghai Jiao Tong University and American Journal of Physiology-Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology were the most prolific institution and journal, respectively. Wang, Ping has published most papers (23) while publications from Lee, Pj have most citations (2016).        Background: Publications quality evaluation gets more attention nowadays, because of its impact on researchers ranking and academic journals. Beside traditional bibliometric tools, altemetric metrics have been introduced as tools to evaluate the dissemination of a study by the number of views, mentions, and posts on different websites and social medias.
Method: In this study, the authors evaluate the correlation between citation number as a traditional tool and altmetric attention score (AAS) as a new method. Scopus database was searched to find the 50 most cited manuscripts on "hip fractures" title from January 2015 to December 2020. After excluding irrelevant subjects, AAS of included articles was collected from the Altmetric.com website. At the last stage, the data were analyzed using statistical tests.
Results: According to statistical analysis, R 2 was 0.121, and the P-value was 0.017, which shows a weak but statistically significant relationship between citation and AAS. The relationship between the number of mentions on Twitter and the AAS was linear. The differences observed between the two groups were significant only in "Readers on Mendeley" and "Dimensions". Results shown that the impact factor of the journal and the AAS of articles had no significant relationship (R 2=0.001, P-value=0.986).
Conclusion: Findings showed that social media does not seem to be ineffective in disseminating published articles. It has also been shown that Twitter can play a significant role in the propagation of articles on social networks. It is not unreasonable to say that the accessibility of a journal affects the dissemination of an article on social media. In the end, the authors found that the impact factor of the journal could not significantly affect the AAS.

Background: Monkeypox (MPX) has made recurrence after decades as a neglected zoonotic disease. More nations have reported endemic monkeypox in the past decade than in the previous forty. The World Health Organization has warned that the world may face another significant challenge after dealing with COVID-19, a pandemic, and the Monkeypox outbreak. Early appraisal of monkeypox research and development allows researchers to anticipate solutions for large outbreaks. We conducted a bibliometric analysis of this study's top 100 cited papers to identify regional research patterns.
Methods: Our method was to search the SCI-Expanded database on Web of Science (WOS) for the top 100 papers that were cited in MPX on this database. We examined relevant literature from different years, journals, countries/regions, institutions, authors, and keywords. In order to create knowledge maps, we used the programs VOSviewer, Citespace, Scimago Graphica and the bibliometric online analysis platform. After compiling the relevant literature in Excel, we could estimate the field's focus and trends.
Results: A total of 47 journals from 36 countries and regions published the top 100 cited papers between 1999 and 2023. The majority of articles were published in EMERGING INFECTIOUS DISEASES, while the highest average number of citations per paper were found in the NEW ENGLAND JOURNAL OF MEDICINE. The UNITED STATES contributed the most publications, followed by ENGLAND and SWITZERLAND. As far as the total number of publications goes, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention in the USA, the National Institute of Health in the USA, and the World Health Organization each contributed the most papers. The major categories are immunology, virology and infectious diseases. The top five keywords were infection, Congo, virus, smallpox, and transmission. The cluster analysis suggests MPX research will focus on safe and effective vaccines and epidemic prevention.
Conclusion: By using bibliometric analysis, MPX researchers can quickly and visually identify their research focus and boundaries. Although studies suggest that antiviral medicine is the best treatment, creating an effective vaccine might lessen and avoid MPX pandemics in the long term. Our findings imply that safe and effective vaccines may be the focus and trends for future MPX research. International coordination for case monitoring and identification is essential to understand monkeypox disease's ever-changing epidemiology.

Background: With the surge in the number of infected individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic, there was also a surge observed in the number of publications discussing its epidemiology, characteristics, path-o-phys-i-ol-o-gy, diagnosis, prevention and treatment. This bibliometric analysis focuses on the papers published on COVID-19 in South Asia.
Methods: We searched articles in the Scopus database from December 2019 to October, 2022. After manual screening, a list of the 100 most-cited articles was obtained, which was analyzed for various factors, including the type of article, citation count, author's affiliation, country of origin, funding bodies, etc.
Results: The majority of the top 100 articles (n=79) in South Asia were published during 2020. India was affiliated with the highest number of articles (n=68), followed by Bangladesh (n=18) and Pakistan (n=12). However, 7 articles were authored by a researcher in Bangladesh. Female authors were under represented (32.38%), with no female author in lists of authors with 4 or more articles. The average number of citations for each of the top 100 most-cited articles was 180.8. Original articles constituted the major portion of the publications (82%), followed by letters (11%) and reviews (4%). Half of the publications belonged to the field of medicine (n=49), while others were contributed by science, psychology, social sciences, and biochemistry and allied sciences (n=8). Vaccine trials were under-represented. Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh was affiliated with the maximum number of articles. Most articles were published in Science of The Total Environment (n=8) while Indian Council of Medical Research (n=4) was the top funding body.
Conclusion: These findings highlight that South Asia has a great potential to conduct research addressing its challenging health problems. But lack of funds hinders conducting trials of new medications and vaccines. Thus, there is need for allocation of sufficient funds for research and clinical trials by governments and the private sector to enhance the research productivity of this region.

The removal of waterborne pathogens from water is critical in preventing the spread of waterborne diseases. Electrochemical methods have been extensively researched and implemented for disinfection, primarily owing to their simplicity, efficiency, and eco-friendliness. Thus, it is essential to conduct a review about the research progress and hotspots on this promising technique. In this paper, we provided a comprehensive bibliometric analysis to systematically study and analyze the current status, hotspots, and trends in electrochemical disinfection research from 2002 to 2022. This study analyzed literature related to electrochemical disinfection or electrochemical sterilization published in the Web of Science database from 2002 to 2022 using CiteSpace and Biblioshiny R language software packages. The analysis focused on the visualization and assessment of annual publication volume, discipline and journal distribution, collaborative networks, highly cited papers, and keywords to systematically understand the current status and trends of electrochemical disinfection. The results showed that between 2002 and 2022, 1171 publications related to electrochemical disinfection were published, with an exponential increase in the cumulative number of publications (y=17.518e0.2147x, R2= 0.9788). The publications covered 76 disciplines with many articles published in high-impact journals. However, the research power was characterized by a large number of scattered research efforts and insufficient cooperation, indicating the need for further innovative collaboration. The citation analysis and keyword analysis suggest that future development in this field may focus on optimizing electrode materials, investigating the disinfection performance of ·OH based systems, optimizing conditions for actual wastewater treatment, and reducing energy consumption to promote practical applications.

The use of citation counts (among other bibliometrics) as a facet of academic research evaluation can influence citation behavior in scientific publications. One possible unintended consequence of this bibliometric is excessive self-referencing, where an author favors referencing their own publications over related publications from different research groups. Peer reviewers are often prompted by journals to determine whether references listed in the manuscript under review are unbiased, but there is no consensus on what is considered "excessive" self-referencing. Here, self-referencing rates are examined across multiple journals in the fields of biology, genetics, computational biology, medicine, pathology, and cell biology. Median self-referencing rates are between 8-13% across a range of journals within these disciplines. However, self-referencing rates vary as a function of total number of references, number of authors, author status/rank, author position, and total number of publications for each author. Importantly, these relationships exhibit interdisciplinary and journal-dependent differences that are not captured by examining broader fields in aggregate (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc.). These results provide useful statistical guidelines for authors, editors, reviewers, and journals when considering referencing practices for individual publications, and highlight the effects of additional factors influencing self-referencing rates.

Background: Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) has revolutionized diabetes management, but a comprehensive analysis of its clinical implementation is lacking. This study aims to explore CGM in diabetes practice over the past decade using bibliometric analysis. It will identify trends, research focal points, and provide a framework for future investigations.
Materials and methods: The Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) was utilized to acquire literature pertaining to the employment of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in diabetes that was published between the years 2012 and 2022, and to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the associated citation data. To achieve bibliometric visualization and analysis of the collated data, the bibliography package in the Rstudio(v.4.2.2), Citespace 6.2.R4, and VOS viewer were employed.
Results: A total of 3024 eligible publications were extracted from 91 countries, with the United States being the leading country in terms of the number of issued articles. Furthermore, the annual publication rate has shown a gradual increase during the past decade. Among the various journals in this field, DIABETES TECHNOLOGY & THERAPEUTICS was identified as the most highly cited one. Keyword clustering analysis of the extracted publications indicates that the research hotspots in the past decade have primarily focused on "continuous glucose monitoring", "glycemic variability", "type 1 diabetes", "hypoglycemia", and "glycemic control". Moreover, the analysis of keyword emergence reveals that "Time In Range" and "Young Adult" represent the current research frontiers for the years 2012-2022.
Conclusion: The concept of Time in Range (TIR) has garnered considerable attention as a significant area of inquiry and an emerging research trend in the clinical practice of Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) for Diabetes Mellitus. Moreover, recent investigations have demonstrated a growing focus on young adults with type 1 diabetes as the research population of interest. In the foreseeable future, research endeavors will persist in the pursuit of improving glycemic management among young adults through the utilization of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technology, while also delving into the examination of the Time in Range metric via supplementary clinical investigations.

Purpose: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a prevalent respiratory condition characterized by chronic airway inflammation, where macrophages from the innate immune system may exert a pivotal influence. Our study aimed to summarize the present state of knowledge and to identify the focal points and emerging developments regarding macrophages associated with COPD through bibliometrics.
Methods: Publications regarding research on macrophages associated with COPD from January 1, 2011, to January 1, 2022, were retrieved from the Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCI-E) which is part of the Web of Science database. In total, 1521 publications were analyzed using bibliometric methodology. VOSviewer was used to analyze the annual publications, countries, institutions, authors, journals, and research hotspots.
Results: Based on the bibliometric analysis, publications relating to macrophages associated with COPD tended to increase from 2011 to 2022. The United States was the largest producer and most influential country in this field. Research during the past decade has focused on inflammation in the lungs. Most previous studies have mainly focused on the mechanisms that promote the initiation and progression of COPD. Macrophage-related oxidative stress and immunity, communication between macrophages and epithelial cells, and interventions for acute exacerbations have become the focus of more recent studies and will become a hot topic in the future.
Conclusion: Global research on macrophage-associated COPD has been growing rapidly in the past decade. The hot topics in this field gradually tended to shift focus from "inflammation" to "oxidative stress", "epithelial-cells", and "exacerbations". The significance of macrophages in coordinating immune responses, interacting with other cells, and exhibiting dysregulated capacities has attracted increasing attention to COPD pathogenesis. The adoption of new technologies may provide a more promising and comprehensive understanding of the specific role of macrophages in COPD in the future.

Background: Immunosenescence, an age-related deficit in immunity, associated with multiple disorders and making the successful aging a challenge. Although nearly 4000 articles have been published, only few review articles have summarized the research status. In order to better understand the most recent advances, hotspots and development trends in immunosenescence, it is very necessary to conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis. Hence, commonly used bibliometric analysis software CiteSpace and VOSviewer were employed to conduct a quantitative analysis and critical evaluation of publications in this study.
Methods: Immunosenescence publications were screened from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). Microsoft Excel 2021, CiteSpace 5.8.R3, and VOSviewer 1.6.17 were used for bibliometric study.
Results: A total of 3875 publications were retrieved from WoSCC. After screening by document type (article or review) (352 publications were excluded) and language of English (85 were excluded), 3438 studies were finally used for bibliometric analysis. The literature on immunosenescence had been continuously growing since 1991, and by 2020 it has skyrocketed 312 publications from 240 in 2019. USA (1111 publications, 35.01%) was the leading country of publications, followed by ITALY (379, 11.94%) and ENGLAND (366, 11.53%). Of the authors, Pawelec G from the Tubingen University of GERMANY contributed the greatest articles (93 publications). All the keywords could be divided into five clusters, and additional potent visualization bursts revealed that "gut microbiota," "health," "dysfunction," and "nivolumab" were the active hotspots presently.
Conclusion: Based on the current data, we firstly concluded that there will be a dramatically rising publications on immunosenescence, and research teams from USA or GERMANY might be the best chooses for collaboration. Moreover, We particularly emphasized the development potential of mechanism and intervening strateges like "gut microbiota" and "nivolumab" in immunosenescence. We hope to provide new ideas for promoting the basic research and clinical application of immunosenescence.

For various reasons, journals may convert from subscription based (SB) to open-access (OA), commonly referred to as flipping. In the 2022, the Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica (AOGS), has flipped to OA. We aim to perform a bibliometric analysis of authorship patterns of the publications in this journal during the flipping period. A total of 898 research articles were included. In the OA period, there were more publications by authors from China (7.2% vs. 3.3%), p=.001. Flipping to OA in a leading obstetrics and gynecology journal is associated with a change in authorship.

BACKGROUND: Multimorbidity and frailty represent emerging global health burdens that have garnered increased attention from researchers over the past two decades. We conducted a scientometric analysis of the scientific literature on the coexistence of multimorbidity and frailty to assess major research domains, trends, and inform future lines of research.
METHODS: We systematically retrieved scientific publications on multimorbidity and frailty from the Web of Science Core Collection, spanning from 2003 to 2023. Scientometric analysis was performed using CiteSpace and VOSviewer, enabling the visualization and evaluation of networks comprising co-citation references, co-occurring keywords, countries, institutions, authors, and journals.
RESULTS: A total of 584 eligible publications were included in the analysis. An exponential rise in research interest in multimorbidity and frailty was observed, with an average annual growth rate of 47.92% in publications between 2003 and 2022. Three major research trends were identified: standardized definition and measurement of multimorbidity and frailty, comprehensive geriatric assessment utilizing multimorbidity and frailty instruments for older adults, and the multifaceted associations between these two conditions. The United States of America, Johns Hopkins University, Fried LP, and the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society were identified as the most influential entities within this field, representing the leading country, institution, author, and journal, respectively.
CONCLUSIONS: Scientometric analysis provides invaluable insights to clinicians and researchers involved in multimorbidity and frailty research by identifying intellectual bases and research trends. While the instruments and assessments of multimorbidity and frailty with scientific validity and reliability are of undeniable importance, further investigations are also warranted to unravel the underlying biological mechanisms of interactions between multimorbidity and frailty, explore the mental health aspects among older individuals with multimorbidity and frailty, and refine strategies to reduce prescriptions in this specific population.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the research status and hotspots of surgical treatment for tremor in Parkinson's disease (PD) from 2002 to 2022, utilizing bibliometric and visual analysis. Additionally, it aims to offer insights into future research trends in this field.
Methods: This study collected publications on the surgical treatment of tremor in PD from 2002 to 2022 using the Web of Science (WOS) database. CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Scimago Graphica were employed to quantify the number of publications and analyze the bibliographic information networks, including the contributions of countries/cities, authors, keywords, and co-cited references.
Results: A total of 2,815 publications were included in the study, revealing that 541 scientific institutions experienced an increase in publications from 2002 to 2022. Michael Okun emerged as the most productive author, and the United States emerged as the leading hub for research. The study identified 772 keywords. Noteworthy citation bursts and long-term activity were observed in pallidotomy, bilateral stimulation, and focused ultrasound thalamotomy. The top 10 highly co-cited references comprised eight deep brain stimulation (DBS) studies (including two follow-up studies and six randomized controlled trials), one randomized controlled trial on focused ultrasound, and one consensus on tremor.
Conclusion: This study uses an in-depth and systematic bibliometric and visualization analysis to visualize the evolution of research and identify emerging hotspots. The identified hotspots are as follows: Firstly, DBS has received significant attention and widespread recognition as a surgical treatment for tremor in PD. Secondly, there are various key aspects to consider in DBS, such as operative indications, operative targets, and surgical protocols. Lastly, magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) has emerged as a promising treatment option in the surgical management of tremor in Parkinson's disease. This research also provides insights into the phenomenon of these hotspots, offering valuable prompts and reminders for further research.

BACKGROUND: There is a paucity of data in the literature regarding negative articles concerning surgery in orthopedics and trauma. Knowledge pertaining to treatments or techniques which confer a beneficial effect remains important, as does knowledge regarding those which have a null or pejorative effect. Thus, this study was carried out on negative articles in order to: 1) determine their proportion in the ten predominant journals concerning orthopedic and trauma surgery; 2) assess variability in their publication rate depending on the journal and the year, and compare their citation rate to that of positive articles; 3) specify whether a positive article was more likely to be cited compared to a negative article; 4) carry out the same bibliometric analysis with the "Orthopedics & Traumatology: Surgery & Research (OTSR)" journal, and detect possible selection bias for negative articles during the review.
HYPOTHESIS: There are fewer negative articles than positive articles in the literature relating to orthopedic and trauma surgery.
MATERIAL AND METHOD: The study was carried out using the ten orthopedic and trauma surgery journals with the highest impact factors for the year 2021. Two periods were compared, 2009-2010 and 2019-2020. Among the 17,812 publications obtained, 11,962 publications were retained to carry out the analysis (technical notes, meta-analyses, editorials and letters to the editor were all excluded). An analysis using the same method was carried out on the 3727 articles submitted to OTSR from 2015 to 2021, which made it possible to compare the rejected articles to the accepted articles.
RESULTS: Negative articles represented 11% (1,342/12,023) of the literature relating to orthopedic and trauma surgery. There were differences in the rate of publication of negative articles depending on the journals (from 4.04% to 17.14%) (p < 0.0001). The negative article publication rate did not change between the two periods studied: 534/4963 articles (10.76%) in 2009-2010 versus 802/6999 (11.46%) in 2019-2020 (p = 0.23). Positive articles were not cited more often than negative ones: no significant difference between the Category Normalized Citation Impact (CNCI) classes (respectively for classes 0;1[ / [1;2[ / ≥ 2 with 45.66 % 28.22% and 26.12% for negative articles versus 44.90% 27.46% and 27.64% for positive articles (p = 0.4)) and the Top10% (with 18.86% for negative articles versus 20.10% for positive ones (p = 0.28)). The OTSR journal had a rate of negative articles of 9.46% which was within the average range of the journals studied. A selection bias (p<0.02) for negative articles during the review of the OTSR journal was identified with fewer negative articles accepted (115/1216 (9.46%)) than positive articles (164/1330 (12.33%)).
DISCUSSION: The publication of negative articles varies according to the journals and although it is modest, at only 11%, it is essential because it allows us not to repeat errors but also not to bias the carrying out of meta-analyses, and among other things to avoid useless studies.

  28. Animals (Basel). 2023 Oct 08. pii: 3143. [Epub ahead of print]13(19):
Farm animal welfare research conducted in China is not commonly accessed or known outside of China, which may lead to the assumption that farm animal welfare receives relatively little attention in China. Therefore, a bibliometric analysis was conducted on the existing Chinese farm animal welfare literature to provide robust evidence to refute this assumption. A total of 1312 peer-reviewed Chinese studies on farm animal welfare published between March 1992 and June 2023 were retrieved from the Web of Science (WoS) and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database. CiteSpace software was used to analyze and visualize the number, species, authors, institutions, journals, and keywords of the papers. In China, farm animal welfare research has gone through the processes of an early stage (1992-2001), rapid-growth stage (2002-2007), and mature stage (2008-present), and the scale of research continues to grow. Notably, swine and chickens have received priority attention in this area. A Matthew effect was observed for authors and institutions, with relatively little collaboration among authors and institutions. Most of the papers were published in a small number of journals, with an apparent agglomeration characteristic. The research hotspots, summarized as "feed and diet", "environmental impacts and control", "integrated rearing management", "injury and disease", "behavior and technologies for behavior monitoring", "genetic analysis", "welfare during transport and slaughter", "welfare-friendly animal product consumption", "attitudes toward farm animal welfare", and "healthy breeding". The keywords "computer vision", "recognition", "temperature", "precision livestock farming", "laying hen", and "behavior", represent the major research frontiers in the field, which could indicate potential areas of significant future research. The findings of the present bibliometric analysis confirm the fact that farm animal welfare is a field of interest in China. Farm animal welfare research in China tends to be pragmatic, with a strong emphasis on enhancing growth and production performance, as well as product quality, rather than solely concentrating on improving farm animal welfare. This paper provides insightful references that researchers can use to identify and understand the current status and future direction of the farm animal welfare field in China.

STUDY DESIGN: Systematic review. The purpose of this study was to compare the top 25 articles on pediatric spine surgery by number of citations and Altmetric score. All published articles pertaining to pediatric spine surgery from 2010 to 2021 were assessed for: Altmetric scores, Altmetric score breakdown (e.g. Twitter, News), citation counts, and article topics. The top 25 Altmetric articles and top 25 cited articles were identified. Out of the 50 total articles, only 3 (6.0%) overlapped between the two groups. The top Altmetric articles had averages (mean ± SD) of 167 ± 130 Altmetric score and 66 ± 135 citations, while the top citation articles had averages of 22 ± 45 Altmetric score and 196 ± 114 citations. When evaluating article topics, articles on 'back pain' (36% vs. 4%; P = 0.003) and 'backpacks' (16% vs. 0%; P = 0.030) were published significantly more in the top Altmetric group, while articles on 'scoliosis' (93% vs. 36%; P < 0.001) and 'growth friendly surgery' (24% vs. 4%; P = 0.041) were published significantly more in the top citation group. The total number of citations and online mentions for both groups are presented in Table 2. The biggest differences were the top Altmetric score articles receiving greater percentages of Twitter mentions relative to overall mentions (87% vs. 57%). The most socially popular articles focused on back pain and backpacks, and the most cited articles focused on scoliosis and growth-friendly surgery. Twitter had the most mentions of all social media for both the top cited articles and the top Altmetric articles.

OBJECTIVE: To elucidate trends in publication productivity over the past 50 years and how they correlate with the stage of training as well as the competitiveness of residency and fellowship programs. The authors hypothesize that research qualifications play an important role in obtaining a competitively ranked craniofacial surgery fellowship and that over the past 50 years, there has been an upward shift in the research qualifications held by applicants at the time of application.
DESIGN: A cross-sectional study was performed involving all 121 academic craniofacial surgeons in the United States for whom sex, years since fellowship, current institution rank, current academic position, and years since graduation were available.
MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The relationship between research qualifications, as determined by the overall number of publications, number of first authorship publications, H-index scores, and years since fellowship completion, was examined. The study also analyzed the placement of surgeons at programs ranked in the top 25 versus the lower 25.
RESULTS: As the number of decades since beginning craniofacial fellowship decreased, the average number of first authorship publications and average H-index increased. Those who attended higher-ranking residency and fellowship programs had a higher average number of publications, number of first authorship publications, and H-index.
CONCLUSIONS: Over the past 5 decades, research productivity at all stages of medical training has surged, potentially fueled by the trend toward pass/fail grading in medical school evaluations and standardized exams and the need to differentiate oneself in an increasingly competitive field.

INTRODUCTION: A high salt diet is a significant risk factor for hypertension, and scholarly investigations into this relationship have garnered considerable attention worldwide. However, bibliometric analyses in this field remain underdeveloped. This study aimed to conduct a bibliometric and visual analysis of research progress on the link between high salt and hypertension from 2011 to 2022 with the goal of identifying future research trends and providing valuable insights for this field.
METHODS: High salt and hypertension data were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Microsoft Excel, Scimago Graphica, CiteSpace, and VOSviewer software were employed to analyze publication output trends, the most productive countries or regions, journals, authors, co-cited references, and keywords.
RESULTS: After screening, 1470 papers met the inclusion criteria. Relevant publications increased annually by 3.66% from 2011 to 2022. The United States led in research productivity, with The Journal of Hypertension publishing the most papers, and David L. Mattson as the most prolific author. Oxidative stress has emerged as a prominent research topic, and extensive investigations have been conducted on related mechanisms. "Oxidative stress," "gut microbiota," and "kidney injury" are recent hotspots that are expected to remain so, and this study carefully characterizes the mechanism of high salt-induced hypertension based on these hotspots.
CONCLUSION: This study utilized bibliometric and visualization analysis to identify the development trends and hotspots of publications related to high salt and hypertension. The findings of this study offer valuable insights into the forefront of emerging trends and future directions in this field.

BACKGROUND: Due to the increasing recognition of gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), novel insights have appeared in both preclinical and clinical research and begun to reshape the field. This study aims to map the research landscape through bibliometric analysis and provide a brief overview for the future of the GIST field.
METHODS: We searched the Web of Science Core Collection without publication data restrictions for GISTs and performed a bibliometric analysis with CiteSpace and VOSviewer software.
RESULTS: In sum, 5,911 of 13,776 records were included, and these studies were published in 948 journals and written by 24,965 authors from 4,633 institutions in 100 countries. Referring to published reviews and bibliometric analysis, we classified the future trends in four groups. In epidemiological study, precise incidence and clinicopathological features in different regions and races might become potential hotspots. Novel therapy, such as drugs, modified strategies, radioligand therapy, was persistent hotspots in GIST fields, and ctDNA-guided diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment might meet future clinical needs. The debate over serosa surgery vs. mucosa surgery will remain active for a long time in GIST surgery, and function reserve surgery, biology-based surgery will play an important role in future. Moreover, rare GIST type, like NF-1-associated GIST, Carney triads and SDH mutant GIST, need more studies in pathogenesis and genetic mutation to provide appropriate treatment for this orphan GIST patients.
CONCLUSIONS: Potential hotspots in future GIST trends might involve epidemiology, agents, resection therapy and rare type GIST, moreover, researchers could pay more attention in these four fields.

OBJECTIVE: . This study investigated the associations between the number of authors and collective self-citations versus citations by others.
STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING: . We analyzed 88,594 health science articles published in 2015 and citations they received until 2020. The main variables were the number of authors, the number of citations by co-authors (collective self-citations), and the number of citations by others.
RESULTS: . The number of authors correlated more strongly with the number of citations by co-authors than with citations by others (Spearman r 0.31 vs. 0.23; mutually adjusted r 0.26 vs. 0.12). The percentage of self-citations among all citations was 10.6% for single-authored articles, and increased gradually with the number of authors to 34.8% for ≥ 50 authors. Collective self-citations increased the proportion of articles reaching or exceeding 30 total citations by 0.7% for single-authored articles, but by 11.6% for articles written by ≥ 50 authors.
CONCLUSIONS: . If citations by others reflect scientific utility, then another mechanism must explain the excess of collective self-citations observed for multi-authored articles. The results support the hypothesis that the authors' own motivations explain this excess. The evaluation of scientific utility should also be based on citations by others, excluding collective self-citations.

Background: Heterotopic ossification is a complication in the late stage of ankylosing spondylitis (AS), and involves abnormal osteogenesis by mesenchymal stem cells (MSC). Research activity in this area has been rapidly expanding, but there is a lack of bibliometric studies that summarize the progresses.
Methods: We searched the Web of Science (WoS) for articles pertaining to the role of MSCs in heterotopic ossification in AS from the database inception to December 2022 and visualized the countries, authors, institutions, references, and keywords using CiteSpace 6.1.R6 and VOSViewer.
Results: A total of 127 publications from 188 institutions were identified, with a trend for increasing number of articles per year. China published the largest number of literature, followed by the United States and France. There were 47 core authors. The most recent research in this area mainly focused on "osteogenic differentiation", "gene expression", "inflammation", "TNF-α" and "bone formation". Current research can be broadly summarized into two topics: abnormalities in the inflammatory microenvironment and abnormalities in the MSCs. Aberrant expression of a variety of surface proteins in MSCs predisposes these cells to undergo osteogenic differentiation, and pro-inflammatory cytokines in the inflammatory milieu stimulate osteogenic differentiation of MSCs.
Conclusion: MSCs in heterotopic ossification in AS is a relatively new area of research. Research activities primarily consist abnormalities in the inflammatory microenvironment and abnormalities in the MSCs.

This study analyzes the most relevant authors, sources, cooccurrence of keywords, thematic map, and trend topics of the most recent and most cited research papers on semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA). Also, the content of the 25 most cited papers is summarized. A total of 2995 results appeared in an online electronic search performed on 14 August 2023 in the Scopus database using the term semaglutide. The most recently published 500 articles and most cited 200 documents were selected for bibliometric analysis. Network analysis visualization was conducted with the help of the VOSviewer software (version 1.6.18) (Centre for Science and Technology Studies, Leiden, the Netherlands) and Biblioshiny (it is a shiny application providing a web interface for bibliometrix) (Department of Economics and Statistics, University of Naples Federico II, Naples, Italy). After excluding duplicates and editorials, the data analysis found that 495 most recent documents were published in 279 journals by 2461 authors, and 200 most cited papers were published in 103 sources by 1241 authors. There is an increasing trend in the number of research papers from 2014 to 2022, with a peak in 2022. The most relevant authors in the most recent semaglutide research papers are Chen and Zhang. The pertinent authors of the most cited research papers on semaglutide are Lingvay and Khunti. The most common keywords used in the most recent and most cited research papers are semaglutide, obesity, diabetes mellitus type 2, glucagon-like peptide-1, glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist, antidiabetic agent, liraglutide, and cardiovascular disease (CVD). The most relevant source is "Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism" for the research papers on semaglutide. Trend topic analysis suggests that most of the research between 2020 and 2022 on semaglutide was done on non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. The most cited papers provide essential insights into using semaglutide in managing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), obesity, and related conditions, along with their potential benefits, side effects, and possible mechanisms of action. This analysis highlights that the pharmacological effects of semaglutide extend beyond its role as a glycemic regulator.

Although the number of publications focusing on low back pain in older adults (LBP-O) and working-age adults (LBP-W) has been growing for decades, comparative research trends in these two populations, which may help to guide future investigation, have not been rigorously explored. This analysis aimed to describe publication patterns and trends of research targeting LBP-O and LBP-W over the last three decades. Peer-reviewed LBP-O and LBP-W articles published between 1993 and 2023 were retrieved from the Web of Science, which provided the details of annual publication volume, and prominent journals/countries/institutions. The relationship between the annual publication volumes and years was analyzed by Spearman correlation analysis. The hot topics and emerging trends were analyzed by VOSviewer and CiteSpace, respectively. A total of 4217 LBP-O-related and 50,559 LBP-W-related documents were included. The annual publication volumes of LBP-O and LBP-W articles increased over the years (r=0.995 to 0.998, p<0.001). The United States had the highest number of prominent institutions publishing relevant articles. The most prolific journal for LBP-O (5.4%) and LBP-W-related (6.1%) papers is the journal "Spine". Cognitive behavioral therapy, intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration, physiotherapy, physical activity, and walking were the recent hot topics and physical activity was an emerging trend in LBP-O, while surgery and IVD degeneration (also a hot topic) were emerging trends in LBP-W. This study highlights the paucity of LBP-O-related research in the past. The United States and the journal Spine stand out in LBP research. The research trend of physical activity in LBP-O is consistent with the recognized importance of physical activity for older adults in general, and for managing LBP-O in particular. Conversely, the emerging trends of surgery and intervertebral disc degeneration in LBP-W research highlight a focus on the biomedical model of LBP despite LBP being a biopsychosocial condition.

Spatial heterogeneity is a fundamental research topic in the field of geography, and Geodetector is a widely used tool for studying this phenomenon. To understand the research advancements and knowledge diffusion trends surrounding Geodetector, we constructed an author evolutionary tree structure fusing its 847 core citations in the Web of Science database and Geotree model for the first time. The results of our literature statistics indicated that Geodetector has garnered the attention of 3123 authors from 48 countries since its publication in the Ecological Indicators journal in 2010, who have published core papers concerning ten important topics. The majority of these studies focused on spatial heterogeneity and its influencing factors. Our analysis of Geotree data revealed a significant correlation between the publication rate of scholars in large teams and their academic activities. Our analysis of the knowledge diffusion chain shown that only 2% of the total number of authors have contributed to over 20% of the scientific collaborations and knowledge diffusion, and they were recognized as experts in Geodetector research. To provide a comprehensive reference for future scholars, we have summarized the citing countries, five classical articles, main scientific domains, and core teams of Geodetector research.

The goal of this work was to use bibliometric analysis to help guide future research on macrophage polarization in RA. We looked for studies on macrophage polarization in RA published between January 1, 2000, and December 31, 2022, in the WoSCC database. Research trends and hotspots were shown and assessed using VOSviewer and CiteSpace. A total of 181 articles were gathered. Belgium was among the early adopters of the field. Chinese institutes have produced the most research. Researchers such as Angel Luis Corb, Amaya Puig-Kröger, and Lizbeth Estrada-Capetillo have made major contributions to the field. Frontiers in Immunology has published the most study findings. According to VOSviewer, the most investigated immune cells, biomarkers, and signaling pathways in the previous three years have been "T cells", "gm-csf", and "nf-κb" in that order. We discovered that the most often used terms in the previous three years were "pathway", "oxidative stress", "extracellular capsule" and "nlrp3 inflammasome" using Citespace. We emphasize these concepts in our findings, presenting the exact mechanisms of pathophysiology related to macrophage polarization in RA, as well as current breakthroughs in therapy strategies.

This study identified literatures from the Web of Science Core Collection on the application of artificial intelligence in wastewater treatment from 2011 to 2022, through bibliometrics, to summarize achievements and capture the scientific and technological progress. The number of papers published is on the rise, and especially, the number of papers issued after 2018 has increased sharply, with China contributing the most in this regard, followed by the US, Iran and India. The University of Tehran has the largest number of papers, WATER is the most published journal, and Nasr M has the largest number of articles. Collaborative network has been developed mainly through cooperation between European countries, China and the US. Remote sensing in developing countries needs to be further integrated with water quality monitoring programs. It is worth noting that artificial neural network is a research hotspot in recent years. Through keyword clustering analysis, 'machine learning' and 'deep learning' are hot keywords that have emerged since 2019. The use of neural networks for predicting the effectiveness of treatment of difficult to degrade wastewater is a future research trend. The rapid advancement of deep learning provides the opportunity to build automated pipeline defect detection systems through image recognition.

Doxorubicin is a potent chemotherapeutic agent that can cause cardiotoxicity. Many documents (more than 14,000) have been published in the area of doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity (DIC) since 1970. A comprehensive bibliographic analysis of author keywords was used to describe better and understand the molecular mechanisms involved in DIC. The objective was to consider the state of the author keywords of research on the molecular mechanisms involved in DIC based on a bibliometrics study of articles published over the past fifty years. A bibliometrics analysis was conducted using VOSviewer with data collected from the Web of Science Core Collection database of over 14,000 documents (from 1970 to July 19, 2023). Using scientific publications retrieved about DIC, author keywords were assessed at the scientific field level. The current study showed that the annual number of DIC-related publications has increased over the past 50 years. The Journal of Clinical Oncology is the leading journal in this field. The top cited DIC document was published in 2004. The top keywords with high frequency were "doxorubicin," "cardiotoxicity," and "adriamycin." According to the results of this study, the most common mechanisms involved in DIC were as follows oxidative stress, apoptosis, inflammation, autophagy, mitophagy, endoplasmic reticulum stress, pyroptosis, and ferroptosis. The highest occurrences of regulators-related author keywords were "AKT," "Sirt1," and "AMPK." Based on the findings, oxidative stress, apoptosis, inflammation, autophagy, mitophagy, endoplasmic reticulum stress, pyroptosis, and ferroptosis were hot research mechanisms of DIC from 1970 to July 19, 2023.

PURPOSE: To identify and assess the clinical impact of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the surgical management of femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) through a citation analysis.
METHODS: MEDLINE, EMBASE and CENTRAL were searched from inception to April 22, 2023 for RCTs assessing the surgical management of FAIS. Study characteristics were directly abstracted from included trials and citation metrics were obtained from the Clarivate Web of Knowledge database on May 19, 2023. The continuous fragility index (CFI) was calculated for eligible outcomes. Univariate regression models were used to explore correlations between total citations per year and various study characteristics.
RESULTS: Ten studies comprising one thousand two hundred ninetypatients were eligible for analysis. Studies were published from 2013 to 2023. Eight countries were represented across various trials with 91% being either North American or European. The mean journal impact factor of published studies was 39.684 (median 2.982; range 1.31-202.73). The mean citation density was 14.17 (range 0.33-48.67). The median CFI was 4.8 (range 1-32.2). Correlation analysis demonstrated strong and statistically significant correlations to study sample size (R = 0.75, p = 0.012), journal impact factor (R = 0.80, p = 0.006) and continuous fragility index (R = 0.95, p = 0.015).
CONCLUSION: Trials assessing the surgical management of FAIS present with a wide range of clinical uptake based on citation density and are published in journals of broadly variable impact factor. Despite promising citation metrics, high-quality evidence on arthroscopy for FAIS is limited to the United States and Europe with an unclear international impact. Future knowledge translation efforts are warranted to maximise the international uptake of evidence regarding arthroscopic management of FAIS.

Purpose: ''Project Portfolio Risk Management" is approached through a bibliometry and collaboration networks study determining its dynamics and development as a formal domain that links Project, Risk Management and Portfolio concepts.
Design/methodology/approach: To facilitate replicability, a scientometric study under a PRISMA structure is carried out: i) Identification or domain structuring, as well as keywording accuracy; ii) Screening: Search string refinement and outputs review; iii) Eligibility: Several criteria applied to a content analysis, and iv) Inclusion: Consolidation of domain analytics through bibliometry and collaboration networks.
Originality and findings: Assessing the field as a formal knowledge domain is novel, contributing to a synthesis of its trends and evolution: For first time, descriptive statistics show increasing attention based on the growing citation scores, participation, H index and productivity of its main journals. Project Portfolio Selection is established as hot topic, the main authors are identified, as well as key concepts such as optimization, mathematical programming, multi-objective optimization, stochastic programming, and robust optimization. Three main research themes are obtained: Incorporation of Risk Assessment into Project Portfolio Selection problem, Risk Management as a Project Portfolio Management process, and Risk Analysis considering social and environmental issues. An accurate match is found in the contrast of the domain's behavior with some bibliometric and linguistic laws.
Practical implications: Theoretical richness is achieved in the conjunction of the three terms, presenting dynamics and tendencies and thus contributing to focus related research processes on a unified field for the use of both scholars' and practitioners' perspectives.

Ayurveda is India's prominent traditional medical system. The World Health Organization has stated the need for more evidence and data from conventional medicine methods to inform policymakers, regulatory bodies, healthcare stakeholders, and the public about its safe, effective, and equitable use. This study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the emerging trends in Ayurveda research, mapping research to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and examining the impact of COVID-19. Using bibliometric methods, the researchers analyzed a total of 11,773 publications between 1993 and 2022 to understand the temporal evolution of publications, open-access publications, patterns of author collaboration, top-performing countries, and co-citation networks. The keyword co-occurrence analysis identifies networks of concentrated studies on Ayurveda research themes relating to the four clusters, Alternative and Traditional Medicine, Bioactive Compounds and Biological Activities, Analytical Techniques and Herbal Standardization, and Herbal Medicines and Immunomodulation, reflecting the diverse research areas within Ayurveda. The last cluster included research related to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, suggesting research on herbal approaches to immune modulation in the context of COVID-19. The most prominent SDG among these research themes was Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), emphasizing the potential of natural products and traditional medicine in promoting holistic health and combating antibiotic resistance.

Data pricing, which aids in articulating the worth and advantages of data and encourages its opening, sharing, and circulation, is an indispensable component of data trading. Studies pertinent to the topic of data pricing are continuously developing. To undertake a thorough analysis of the literature in data pricing, we use bibliometric and statistical methods for the first time. The 373 data pricing publications from 1990 to 2023 are the study's research object. We mainly analyze the external characteristics, keyword co-occurrence and co-citation networks of data pricing. We find that data pricing has been progressing fairly quickly during the last decade. Two basic approaches have been used by researchers to study how to price various data objects: one is based on economics theory, and the other on computer science algorithms. We provide an in-depth study of the overall evolution of data pricing and give the future directions of data pricing.

INTRODUCTION: Shoulder arthroplasty is increasingly frequent, and the associated literature is abundant. Citation rate is often considered a good means of assessing impact and scientific value. However, analysis of methodological quality is also essential in evidence-based medicine.
OBJECTIVES: 1) To identify the 50 most cited articles on shoulder arthroplasty, and 2) to assess the correlation between citation rate and methodological quality. The study hypothesis was that there is no correlation between citation rate and methodological quality.
METHOD: Articles were retrieved from PubMed and Google Scholar, identifying the 50 most cited articles on shoulder arthroplasty via the keywords "shoulder joint replacement", "shoulder arthroplasty", "anatomic shoulder prothesis", "reverse shoulder prothesis", and "glenohumeral arthritis". Modified Coleman Methodology Score (MCMS) and the Methodological Index for Non-Randomized Studies (MINORS) were calculated.
RESULTS: Mean citation rate for the 50 articles was 312.4±169.5 (range, 151-841.5), with a mean citation density of 18.8±10.6 (range, 4.7-46.7). 56% of the studies (28/50) were retrospective case series with level of evidence IV. There was no correlation between citation rate and methodological quality.
DISCUSSION: The 50 most cited articles on shoulder arthroplasty mostly showed low levels of methodological quality. There was no correlation between citation rate and methodological quality: the literature needs to be read with a critical eye.

Bioenergy has the potential to substitute the current demand for fossil fuels in various applications. Recovering energy from bio-based materials due to environmental considerations has been adopted as a policy objective by governments and international organizations, which led to both vast financial investment and scientific research, especially in the last two decades. So far, various feedstocks and technologies have been scrutinised by the research community, although not all of them are commercially adopted due to sustainability considerations. This study employs scientometric analysis to survey the progress of scientific development in the field of bioenergy from 1966 to 2022, using ten parameters including publication year, type of document, categories, countries, affiliations, document citations, co-authorship, author citation networks, journal citation networks, and keywords. A total of 51,905 scientific documents were collected from the Web of Science, involving more than 96,000 authors from 162 countries. The dispersion of studies followed an ascending distribution with a sharp increase in the second half of the 2000s. The evolution of keywords in terms of burst strength confirmed the advancements of technologies from primary first-generation to advanced fourth-generation bioenergies. Based on the evolution of science in this area, it is concluded that integrated sustainability assessment studies, covering technical, economical, environmental, and social aspects, are needed to bridge the gap between abundant theoretical endeavours and limited commercial use of this energy source.

BACKGROUND: This study conducted a comprehensive analysis of research pertaining to the intersection of rehabilitation and COVID-19 (COV-REH). The main aim of this study is to analyze the thematic progression and hotspots, detect emerging topics, and suggest possible future research directions in the COV-REH.
METHODS: Appropriate keywords were selected based on the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) PubMed database and the Scopus database were used to retrieve a total of 3746 original studies conducted in the English language. The data extraction was performed on June 30, 2023. VOSviewer and Bibliometrix utilize CVS and BibTex files to facilitate the performance analysis and generate visual maps. The performance indicators reported for the research components of the COV-REH were compiled using the Scopus Analytics tool.
RESULTS: From 2003 to 2023, 3470 authors from 160 organizations in 119 countries generated 3764 original research documents, with an annual growth of 53.73%. 1467 sources identified these scholarly works. Vitacca, M. (Italy), Harvard University (USA), and the USA published the most articles. This study included 54.1% of medical scholars. Telerehabilitation, exercise, quality of life, case reports, anxiety, and pulmonary rehabilitation were the primary themes of the COV-REH. One component of "telerehabilitation" is now the cardiac rehabilitation cluster. The trending topics in COV-REH are "symptoms," "protocol," and "community-based rehabilitation".
CONCLUSIONS: This study proposed several significant research directions based on the current thematic map and its evolution. Given that COV-REH investigations have been determined to be multidisciplinary, this study contributes conceptually to several fields and has wide-ranging implications for practitioners and policymakers.

With the focus on limiting greenhouse gas emissions, microalgae-based technology is a promising approach for wastewater treatment, combining cost-effective operation, nutrient recovery, and assimilation of CO2. In addition, membrane technology supports process intensification and wastewater reclamation. Based on a bibliometric analysis, this paper evaluated the literature on membrane photobioreactors to highlight promising areas for future research. Specifically, efforts should be made on advancing knowledge of interactions between algae and bacteria, analysing different strategies for membrane fouling control and determining the conditions for the most cost-effective operation. The Scopus® database was used to select documents from 2000 to 2022. A set of 126 documents were found. China is the country with the highest number of publications, whereas the most productive researchers belong to the Universitat Politècnica de València (Spain). The analysis of 50 selected articles provides a summary of the main parameters investigated, that focus in increasing the biomass productivity and nutrient removal. In addition, microalgal-bacterial membrane photobioreactor seems to have the greatest commercialisation potential. S-curve fitting confirms that this technology is still in its growth stage.

This study aims to elucidate the evolution of catfish research publications over recent decades, identify emerging research clusters, examine keyword patterns, determine major contributors (including authors, organizations, and funding agencies), and analyze their collaborative networks and citation bursts on a global scale. The USA, Brazil, China, and India collectively contribute approximately 67% of the total catfish research publications, with a marked increase in prevalence since 2016. The most frequently occurring and dominant keywords are "channel catfish" and "responses," respectively. Intriguingly, our findings reveal 28 distinct article clusters, with prominent clusters including "yellow catfish," "channel catfish", "pectoral girdle," "African catfish", "Rio Sao Francisco basin," "Edwardsiella ictaluri," and "temperature mediated". Concurrently, keyword clustering generates seven main clusters: "new species", "growth performance", "heavy metal", "gonadotropin-releasing", "essential oil", and "olfactory receptor". This study further anticipates future research directions, offering fresh perspectives on the catfish literature landscape. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first article to conduct a comprehensive mapping review of catfish research publications worldwide.

Purpose: Low- to middle-income nations contain more than 80% of the world's population; however, only 4% of articles in ophthalmology journals belong to these countries. We aim to analyze the global diversity of the editorial boards of ophthalmology journals.
Methods: Cross-sectional study, including all journals in the Ophthalmology section of the SCImago Journal & Country Rank (SJR). Journals were classified according to the country of origin, SJR interquartile range (Q1-Q4), impact factor, and open-access policy. Global diversity among journals was determined by the country of affiliation of editors-in-chief and editorial board members. Nations were classified by income according to the World Bank's 2022 system. The association between editorial diversity and the journal's metrics and country of origin was analyzed using the χ2 test and the Mann-Whitney U test.
    Results: A total of 116 journals were included and 83.6% belonged to high-income nations. Only 18 (13.3%) editors-in-chief and 582 (13.5%) board members were affiliated with middle-income nations. The most prevalent middle-income countries in editorial boards were Brazil (n = 184, 4.26%), India (n = 150, 3.47%), Turkey (n = 42, 0.97%), and Iran (n = 36, 0.83%). Only 40 (1.07%) editorial board members of Q1 journals were affiliated with non-high-income nations, most belonging to India (n = 28, 70%). Journals from middle-income nations had a statistically significant lower prevalence in the first- and second-quartile ranking (P < 0.001) and a higher proportion of open-access policies (P = 0.019).
Conclusions: A clear underrepresentation of low- to middle-income nations was observed in ophthalmology journals. Promoting editorial diversity and minimizing the possibility of editorial bias could lead to greater exposure to real-world data from resource-constrained settings.
Translational Relevance: The documented underrepresentation of low- to middle-income nations in ophthalmology journals highlights the importance of promoting diversity and inclusion.

A bibliometric analysis was conducted to examine the trends and developments in the field of Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) from 2000 to June 2022. The selection and identification of data involved a systematic search resulting in 1245 articles for bibliometric analysis after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Strategic diagrams, overlay graphs, and evolution maps were used to analyze the trends and themes in different periods. The analysis reveals the emergence and evolution of various themes and their interconnections. In the early periods, the focus was on energy market issues, distributed generation, and the control of Distributed Energy Resources. Themes such as microgrids, renewable energy, electric vehicles, and economic analysis have gained prominence over time. The present study also identified the introduction of new concepts such as prosumers, collaborative networks, and dynamic power plants in later periods. The performance analysis for the last period (2022) highlighted the centrality and density of themes such as power plants, renewable power plants, battery energy storage systems, and robust optimization. These themes are considered both fundamental and transverse in the research field. This study discusses the importance of VPPs and battery energy storage systems in addressing grid intermittency issues and providing auxiliary market services. The analysis also emphasized the management of the demand side and the integration of electric vehicles and Building Energy Management Systems in VPPs. Therefore, future directions for VPP research include innovative structures and topologies, big-data analysis, and diversified optimization techniques. This study provides insights into the evolution and current state of research in the field of VPPs and identifies areas for further exploration and development.

OBJECTIVE: The goals of this study were to evaluate the extent that physical therapy journals support open science research practices by adhering to the Transparency and Openness Promotion guidelines and to assess the relationship between journal scores and their respective journal impact factor.
METHODS: Scimago, mapping studies, the National Library of Medicine, and journal author guidelines were searched to identify physical therapy journals for inclusion. Journals were graded on 10 standards (29 available total points) related to transparency with data, code, research materials, study design and analysis, preregistration of studies and statistical analyses, replication, and open science badges. The relationship between journal transparency and openness scores and their journal impact factor was determined.
RESULTS: Thirty-five journals' author guidelines were assigned transparency and openness factor scores. The median score (interquartile range) across journals was 3.00 out of 29 (3.00) points (for all journals the scores ranged from 0-8). The 2 standards with the highest degree of implementation were design and analysis transparency (reporting guidelines) and study preregistration. No journals reported on code transparency, materials transparency, replication, and open science badges. Transparency and openness promotion factor scores were a significant predictor of journal impact factor scores.
CONCLUSION: There is low implementation of the transparency and openness promotion standards by physical therapy journals. Transparency and openness promotion factor scores demonstrated predictive abilities for journal impact factor scores. Policies from journals must improve to make open science practices the standard in research. Journals are in an influential position to guide practices that can improve the rigor of publication which, ultimately, enhances the evidence-based information used by physical therapists.
IMPACT: Transparent, open, and reproducible research will move the profession forward by improving the quality of research and increasing the confidence in results for implementation in clinical care.Running Head: Transparency in Physical Therapy Journals.

Urban health scholars explore the connection between the urban space and health through ontological perspectives that are shaped by their disciplinary traditions. Without explicit recognition of the different approaches, there are barriers to collaboration. This paper maps the terrain of the urban health scholarship to identify key urban health research traditions; and to articulate the main features distinguishing these different traditions. We apply a meta-narrative review guided by a bibliometric co-citation network analysis to the body of research on urban health retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. Five urban health research traditions were identified: (1) sustainable urban development, (2) urban ecosystem services, (3) urban resilience, (4) healthy urban planning, and (5) urban green spaces. Each research tradition has a different conceptual and thematic perspective to addressing urban health. These include perspectives on the scale of the urban health issue of interest, and on the conceptualisation of the urban context and health. Additionally, we developed a framework to allow for better differentiation between the differing research traditions based on (1) perspectives of the urban system as complicated or complex, (2) the preferred locus of change as a function of structure and agency and (3) the geographic scale of the urban health issue that is addressed. These dimensions have even deeper implications for transdisciplinary collaboration as they are underpinned by paradigmatic differences, rather than disciplinary differences. We conclude that it is essential for urban health researchers to reflect on the different urban health approaches and seek coherence by understanding their similarities and differences. Such endeavours are required to produce and interpret transdisciplinary knowledge for the goal of improving health by transforming urban systems.

OBJECTIVE: To assess for the presence of positive outcome bias in the otolaryngology clinical trial literature. Specifically, we investigate the prevalence of clinical trials with positive findings (CTP) and clinical trials with negative findings (CTN), as well as their quality of evidence and subsequent impact.
    STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective analysis.
SETTING: Clinical Trials in the Influential Otolaryngology Literature.
METHODS: We reviewed all clinical trials published in 4 major otolaryngology journals between 2000 and 2020. We constructed several multivariable regression models to investigate the relationship of finding direction with randomization status and citation count. Subsequently, we incorporated an interaction term between year and the primary covariate of each model to assess the temporal trajectory of these relationships. All models accounted for sample size, journal, subspecialty, and the affiliated program prestige.
RESULTS: Of the 1367 trials analyzed, 1143 (84%) were CTPs, a rate that persisted throughout the study period (aOR 1.00, 95% CI 0.98-1.03). CTPs were significantly less likely to be randomized compared to CTNs (aOR 0.25, 0.17-0.37), a relationship that persisted over time (aOR 1.05, 0.99-1.03). CTPs received significantly more citations compared to CTNs (aIRR 1.41, 1.25-1.60), a disparity that also persisted over time (aIRR 0.99, 0.97-1.01).
CONCLUSION: The otolaryngology clinical trial literature has been heavily dominated by positive findings. CTPs were more frequently cited and published even with a lower level of evidence compared to CTNs. This bias may influence the objectivity of evidence used to guide clinical practice and warrants attention when reviewing findings and changing practices.

Background: There is a wealth of poorly utilized unstructured data on lymphoma metabolism, and scientometrics and visualization study could serve as a robust tool to address this issue. Hence, it was implemented.
Methods: After strict quality control, numerous data regarding the lymphoma metabolism were mined, quantified, cleaned, fused, and visualized from documents (n = 2925) limited from 2013 to 2022 using R packages, VOSviewer, and GraphPad Prism.
Results: The linear fitting analysis generated functions predicting the annual publication number (y = 31.685x - 63628, R² = 0.93614, Prediction in 2027: 598) and citation number (y = 1363.7x - 2746019, R² = 0.94956, Prediction in 2027: 18201). In the last decade, the most academically performing author, journal, country, and affiliation were Meignan Michel (n = 35), European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (n = 1653), USA (n = 3114), and University of Pennsylvania (n = 86), respectively. The hierarchical clustering based on unsupervised learning further divided research signatures into five clusters, including the basic study cluster (Cluster 1, Total Link Strength [TLS] = 1670, Total Occurrence [TO] = 832) and clinical study cluster (Cluster 3, TLS = 3496, TO = 1328). The timeline distribution indicated that radiomics and artificial intelligence (Cluster 4, Average Publication Year = 2019.39 ± 0.21) is a relatively new research cluster, and more endeavors deserve. Research signature burst and linear regression analysis further confirmed the findings above and revealed additional important results, such as tumor microenvironment (a = 0.6848, R² = 0.5194, p = 0.019) and immunotherapy (a = 1.036, R² = 0.6687, p = 0.004). More interestingly, by performing a "Walktrap" algorithm, the community map indicated that the "apoptosis, metabolism, chemotherapy" (Centrality = 12, Density = 6), "lymphoma, pet/ct, prognosis" (Centrality = 11, Density = 1), and "genotoxicity, mutagenicity" (Centrality = 9, Density = 4) are crucial but still under-explored, illustrating the potentiality of these research signatures in the field of the lymphoma metabolism.
Conclusion: This study comprehensively mines valuable information and offers significant predictions about lymphoma metabolism for its clinical and experimental practice.

To date, there has been no prior systematic analysis of where LGB research gets published and where LGB studies programs are housed within universities. LGB research could have a disciplinary home in any number of areas of study because of its relevance across many disciplines. Nevertheless, drawing upon the theory of sexuality-as-gendered, we predicted that LGB research and programs of study would be found predominantly within gender studies. We examine the extent to which sexual orientation research (Study 1) and U.S. university LGBTQ-related academic programming (Studies 2 and 3) has found their home in the gender studies discipline. Study 1 results showed gender studies have been the primary home of published sexual orientation research in top-ranked peer-reviewed journals over the past three decades. In Study 2, university LGBTQ academic programming was housed within gender studies departments more frequently than any other department-including standalone LGBTQ studies departments. In Study 3, Google searches for university "LGBT studies" frequently led to that university's gender studies department website as the top search result-including universities whose gender studies department offered zero LGBTQ-related courses. Combined, these results demonstrate far-reaching manifestations of the fact that gender and sexuality are inextricably intertwined constructs.

AIM: Cancer is one of Europe's key research missions, with gender equity a major policy pillar. To benchmark how well European countries perform for gender balance in cancer research, high quality intelligence is required.
METHODS: For cancer research papers in Europe (EUR31; the 28 EU Member States plus Iceland, Norway and Switzerland) from two specific years (2009 and 2019), we evaluated the numbers of female authors overall and then the female last-author presence, as a proxy of female cancer research leadership.
RESULTS: Overall, female authorship increased from 42% to 49%. In 2009, females represented 50% or more of cancer research authors in only five EUR31 countries. By 2019, that number had risen to 17. In Eastern European (EE) countries, females were more likely to be in the majority. The presence of female cancer research authors in the last (senior) author position increased from 24% to 34%. Five of the top six countries for female authorship in 2019 were from EE, whereas disappointingly four central European countries (Austria (AT), Czechia (CZ), Germany (DE) and Switzerland (CH)) were below the 25th percentile. A number of European powerhouses of cancer research (UK, DE, CH) underperformed in terms of female cancer research leadership. However, when cancer researchers from these countries worked abroad (e.g. Scandinavia, USA) the percentage of females was similar to that of their host countries. A factor potentially influencing female cancer research participation was availability and relative cost of child-care, which is more favourable in Scandinavia and EE than in central/western Europe.
CONCLUSION: Our data show that Horizon Europe's Cancer Mission must ensure gender equity in its future research programmes and support the enhancement of female cancer research leadership opportunities.

International donors and UN agencies emphasise the importance of human rights as a key determinant of HIV vulnerability and of access, uptake and retention in HIV prevention and treatment services. Yet, the extent to which HIV researchers are incorporating rights into their research, the specific rights being examined and the frequency of research assessing rights-based approaches, is unknown.
METHODS: We examined all articles published in the five highest impact-factor HIV journals: (1) Lancet HIV; (2) AIDS and Behavior; (3) AIDS; (4) Journal of the International AIDS Society (JIAS); and (5) Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes (JAIDS), between 1 January 2017 and 31 December 2022, for reference to 'human right(s)' or 'right(s)'. We analysed articles to assess: (1) what populations were identified in relation to specific human rights concerns; (2) what specific rights were mentioned; (3) whether researchers cited specific legal frameworks; and (4) if and what types of rights-based interventions were examined.
RESULTS: Overall, 2.8% (n=224) of the 8080 articles reviewed included a mention of 'human right(s)' or 'right(s)'. Forty-two per cent of these (n=94) were original research articles. The most common key population discussed was men who have sex with men (33 articles), followed by sex workers (21 articles) and transgender people (14 articles). Of the 94 articles, 11 mentioned the right to health and nine referenced reproductive rights. Few articles identified a specific authority-whether in national, regional or international law-for the basis of the rights cited. Fourteen articles discussed rights-based interventions.
CONCLUSION: Despite global recognition of the importance of human rights to HIV outcomes, few HIV researchers publishing in the top five cited HIV journals include attention to human rights, or rights-based interventions, in their research. When rights are mentioned, it is often without specificity or recognition of the legal basis for human rights.

Objective: Based on the application and funding status of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) in the field of oral and craniofacial sciences (H15), we analyzed the current status of basic research of the Oral and Craniofacial Sciences (OCS) in China, and provided the references for the sustainable and efficient funding of basic research and scientific frontier exploration in the field, supporting the construction of talents and teams, and enhancing the development of OCS in China. Methods: The data of both applied and funded grants of H15 in NSFC from 2010 to 2021 were analyzed, including the number of applications and funding, the amount of funding, the funding rate, the research direction and the supporting units. The status of basic research of H15 was summarized. Results: From 2010 to 2021, H15 received 15 060 applications and funded 2 569 grants. The overall funding rate of H15 was 17.06%, and the total funding amount was 1 140.305 million yuan. The applications and funded projects of H15 were mainly focused on the General Projects and Youth Science Fund Projects, accounting for 90.33% (13 604/15 060) and 88.71% (2 279/2 569) of the total number of applications and funded projects, and 78.05% (89 002.5/114 030.5) of the total funding amount. In terms of talent training, the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars received 65 applications, and 6 were founded, with a funding rate of 9.23%. The National Science Foundation for Outstanding Young Scholars received 85 applications, and 13 were founded, with a funding rate of 15.29%. In recent years, the number of applications has gradually increased and the number of grants has remained relatively stable. Among the nine sub-categories of H15, the top three in terms of the number of applications and grants were H1502, H1504, and H1507. H1502 (repair and regeneration of oral and craniofacial tissue and organ defects) received 2 760 applications, and 510 were funded. H1504 (periodontal and oral mucosal diseases) received 2 475 applications, and 419 were funded. H1507 (restoration of tooth defects and loss, and correction of dental deformities) received 2 270 applications, and 367 were funded. Peking University and Sichuan University ranked first and second with 1 092 and 1 001 applications, respectively. The top five recipients were Sichuan University (327 items), Peking University (260 items), Wuhan University (204 items), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (198 items) and the Fourth Military Medical University of the People's Liberation Army (193 items). The funding rates were 32.67%, 23.81%, 23.02%, 21.69% and 29.11%, respectively. Conclusions: Under the support of NSFC, the basic research of oral and craniofacial sciences has been developed in an all-round way. In recent years, the talent training of all echelons has increased year by year, the research direction and geographical coverage is comprehensive, and project support organization has its own research focus and discipline advantages, making contributions to the realization of the goal of healthy China and the progress of world medicine.

OBJECTIVES: Gender equality in the healthcare workforce has been a topic of discourse for many decades. In dental academia, women's representation of enrolled students and faculty has risen consistently since the 1980s. However, women in faculty leadership positions may still be lagging when compared to men. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the number of women who occupy the upper echelons of academic rank and title by analyzing cross-referenced data from the American Dental Association and the American Dental Education Association on women dental school graduates in relation to academic appointments.
METHODS: Gender distribution in rank, title, and appointments in the decade from 2011 to 2019, as well as percentage of women graduates over the same period, were collected for descriptive statistics. Multiple linear regression analysis, Cochran Armitage, and chi-square tests were conducted to examine trends over the years and to determine significant differences in overall percentages (p < 0.05).
RESULTS: The total women faculty percentages ranged from 36% to 40%. While the lower-level rank of instructor retained a higher representation of women (56%-65%), the higher rank of professor had disproportionately lower women percentages (18%-26%). Graduates, full-time faculty, lower-level academic ranks, and higher-level academic ranks for women followed similar upward trends that were statistically significant (p < 0.05). When comparing the different groups against each other, the annual increase in women DMD/DDS graduate percentage was higher than women full-time faculty (0.28%), instructor rank (0.92%), professor rank (0.50%), and department chair appointments (0.49%).
CONCLUSIONS: Our data show that women are still underrepresented at higher academic ranks. However, the upward trends for professors, assistant deans, and program chairs suggest that in recent years, more women faculty may have been encouraged, mentored, or offered higher administrative positions in academic institutions.

This article aims to make a bibliometric literature review using systematic scientific mapping and content analysis of digital twins in healthcare to know the evolution, domain, keywords, content type, and kind and purpose of digital twin's implementation in healthcare, so a consolidation and future improvement of existing knowledge can be made and gaps for new studies can be identified. The increase in publications of digital twins in healthcare is quite recent and it is still concentrated in the domain of technology sources. The subject is majorly concentrated in patient's digital twin group and in precision medicine and aspects, issues and/or policies subgroups, although the publications keywords mirror it only at the group side. Digital twins in healthcare are probably stepping out of the infancy phase. On the other hand, digital twins in hospital group and the device and facilities management subgroups are more mature with all knowledge gathered from the manufacturing sector. There is an absence of some publication's types in general, device and care subgroup and no whole body or hospital digital twin was reported. Based on the presented arguments, guidelines for future research were presented: advance in the creation of general frameworks, in subgroups not as much explored, and in groups and subgroups already explored, but that need more advancement to achieve the main goals of a whole human or hospital digital twin with the main issues resolved.

INTRODUCTION: The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) Annual Session aims to educate members using expert speakers in the field. Selection to speak is an honor and can help further an orthodontist's career and credibility. A European study found a significant gender discrepancy in selected speakers at their orthodontic meeting. This has not been investigated in the United States.
METHODS: Speaker names from the 2015-2023 AAO Annual Sessions were obtained and analyzed for gender and then compared with active membership and orthodontic faculty percentages. In addition, the gender of each General Chair and Doctors' Program Chair was analyzed and then compared with the female speaker and membership percentages. Because AAO research award winners are selected blindly, show expertise in the field, and are provided an opportunity to speak at the Annual Session, their gender was also confirmed and compared with membership percentage and female speaker percentage. Two-way chi-square tests were used, and P values of <0.05 were considered statistically significant. Mann-Kendall trend tests analyzed any potential changes in gender representation among AAO active memberships and AAO Annual Session speakers.
RESULTS: Female doctors were underrepresented as speakers (P values ranged from <0.001 to <0.05) in every year studied except 2020 compared with active membership and female faculty percentages. Female doctors were also significantly underrepresented as Annual Session General Chairs and Doctors' Program Chairs (P <0.01). The difference in female doctor representation among research awards winners (63%) compared with the Annual Session speakers (19%) was highly significant. Female representation in AAO active membership shows a significant increase from 2015 to 2023. The ratio of female-to-male speakers appears to be increasing but did not reach statistical significance.
CONCLUSIONS: Female doctors are underrepresented as selected speakers at the AAO Annual Session but comprise the majority of research award recipients. Efforts to provide opportunities for women to showcase their knowledge should be implemented.

Breast cancer is currently the most common malignancy and has a high mortality rate. Ginsenosides, the primary bioactive constituents of ginseng, have been shown to be highly effective against breast cancer both in vitro and in vivo. This study aims to comprehensively understand the mechanisms underlying the antineoplastic effects of ginsenosides on breast cancer. Through meticulous bibliometric analysis and an exhaustive review of pertinent research, we explore and summarize the mechanism of action of ginsenosides in treating breast cancer, including inducing apoptosis, autophagy, inhibiting epithelial-mesenchymal transition and metastasis, and regulating miRNA and lncRNA. This scholarly endeavor not only provides novel prospects for the application of ginsenosides in the treatment of breast cancer but also suggests future research directions for researchers.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to examine gender diversity within the Canadian Urological Association (CUA) and to compare it with the Quebec Urological Association (QUA).
METHODS: A retrospective review of women's representation regarding membership, committees' composition, awards, grants, and conferences between 2012-2022 was performed. Data and gender were extracted from databases and annual meeting programs provided by the CUA and the QUA.
RESULTS: In 2022, females accounted for 18% (256/1431) of the membership at the CUA and 23% (52/228) at the QUA. The female proportion of committee members at the CUA increased from 9% (63/676) from 2012-2016 to 14% (177/1230) from 2017-2022 (p≤0.0001). In 2022, the QUA had a significantly higher proportion of female committee members than the CUA, with 39% (15/38) vs. 22% (50/225) women (p=0.0226), respectively. Moreover, from 2012-2022, 11% (5/46) of the CUA awards were given to women, whereas 38% (13/34) of the award winners at the QUA were women over the same time period (p=0.0038). Between 2012 and 2022, there was 16% (20/126) female CUA grant recipients and 44% (14/32) at the QUA (p=0.0095). The proportion of grants awarded to women at the CUA increased from 13% (5/39) in 2012-2016 to 17% (15/87) in 2017-2022.Two percent (1/53) of the plenary invited speakers at the CUA annual meetings from 2012-2016 were women, compared with 21% (14/66) at the QUA annual meetings from 2017-2022 (p=0.0016).
CONCLUSIONS: Over the past 10 years, there has been an increase in women's representation at the CUA and the QUA; however, data show that the increase in female representation at the QUA has outpaced that of the CUA.

There is concern that preprint articles will lead to an increase in the amount of scientifically invalid work available. The objectives of this study were to determine the proportion of prevention preprints published within 12 months, the consistency of the effect estimates and conclusions between preprint and published articles, and the reasons for the nonpublication of preprints. Of the 329 prevention preprints that met our eligibility criteria, almost half (48.9%) were published in a peer-reviewed journal within 12 months of being posted. While 16.8% published preprints showed some change in the magnitude of the primary outcome effect estimate, 4.4% were classified as having a major change. The style or wording of the conclusion changed in 42.2%, the content in 3.1%. Preprints on chemoprevention, with a cross-sectional design, and with public and noncommercial funding had the highest probabilities of publication. The main reasons for the nonpublication of preprints were journal rejection or lack of time. The reliability of preprint articles for evidence-based decision-making is questionable. Less than half of the preprint articles on prevention research are published in a peer-reviewed journal within 12 months, and significant changes in effect sizes and/or conclusions are still possible during the peer-review process.
