       Background: Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are important players in the complex pathophysiology of ischemic stroke (IS). Recent studies have shown that tremendous progress has been made in the research of MMPs in IS. However, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis is lacking in this research field. This study aimed to introduce the research status as well as hotspots and explore the field of MMPs in IS from a bibliometric perspective.
    Methods: This study collected 1,441 records related to MMPs in IS from 1979 to 2022 in the web of science core collection (WoSCC) database, among them the first paper was published in 1992. CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and R package "bibliometrix" software were used to analyze the publication type, author, institution, country, keywords, and other relevant data in detail, and made descriptive statistics to provide new ideas for future clinical and scientific research.
    Results: The change in the number of publications related to MMPs in IS can be divided into three stages: the first stage was from 1992 to 2012, when the number of publications increased steadily; the second stage was from 2013 to 2017, when the number of publications was relatively stable; the third stage was from 2018 to 2022, when the number of publications began to decline. The United States and China, contributing more than 64% of publications, were the main drivers for research in this field. Universities in the United States were the most active institutions and contributed the most publications. STROKE is the most popular journal in this field with the largest publications as well as the most co-cited journal. Rosenberg GA was the most prolific writer and has the most citations. "Clinical," "Medical," "Neurology," "Immunology" and "Biochemistry molecular biology" were the main research areas of MMPs in IS. "Molecular regulation," "Metalloproteinase-9 concentration," "Clinical translation" and "Cerebral ischemia-reperfusion" are the primary keywords clusters in this field.
    Conclusion: This is the first bibliometric study that comprehensively mapped out the knowledge structure and development trends in the research field of MMPs in IS in recent 30 years, which will provide a reference for scholars studying this field.

       Objective: Currently, acupuncture for shoulder pain has been widely used in clinical and scientific research worldwide, but the bibliometric literature on acupuncture for shoulder pain is still scarce. This study reviews the application of acupuncture in the treatment of shoulder pain over the past 15 years, to analyze the current state of research, research hotspots, and trends. The article can also provide a reference for future research.
    Methods: This paper searches the core collection of the Web of Science database for publications related to acupuncture therapy for shoulder pain between 2008 and 2022. And the data were visualized and analyzed using VOSviewer and CiteSpace for annual publications, countries, institutions, journals and co-cited journals, authors and co-cited authors, keywords, and emergent keywords.
    Results: A total of 135 papers were included, with an overall increasing trend in the number of annual publications. The country with the highest centrality in publishing articles is the United States (0.28). In terms of research institutions, Kyung Hee University has the highest number of publications (18). In terms of authors, Lewith George, Lind Klaus, MacPherson Hugh, Sherman Karen J, and Vickers Andrew J are the five most published authors. Vickers, Andrew J. is the most co-cited author (50 times). In terms of journals, PAIN has the highest number of publications (82) and co-cited frequency (232), while the highest impact factor was BMJ-BRIT MED J (96.216). "Acupuncture" was the most frequently mentioned keyword (65 times), with the keyword "protocol" appearing the most recently. Emerging keywords that are still in vogue are "stroke", "systematic review" and "stimulation".
    Conclusion: This study provides statistics on current research on the treatment of shoulder pain with acupuncture, which may be able to inform future research directions for all researchers and physicians, as well as facilitate closer communication and collaboration.

       Background: Evidence has shown that dry needling (DN) is effective for myofascial pain syndrome (MPS). However, bibliometrics has rarely been used to analyze the literature related to DN for MPS. The purpose of this study is to provide a systematic overview of global frontiers and research hotspots of DN in the treatment of MPS from 2000 to 2022.
    Methods: A search was conducted on Web of Science Core Collection (WoS CC) for literature on DN for MPS from 2000 to 2022. Based on the basic information provided by WoS CC, CiteSpace software was used to conduct bibliometric analysis of the countries, institutions, categories, journals, authors, references and keywords involved in this topic.
    Results: A total of 458 papers were obtained, with the number of publications increasing over time. Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies (31) was the most productive journal based on the number of publications, while Arch Phys Med Rehab (329) was the most co-cited journal. The most productive countries and institutions were USA (112) and Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (39), respectively. Fernandez-de-las-penas, Cesar has the highest number of publications (24) and Simons DG, who was an author with the highest number of citations (250). The article published by Gattie et al (co-citations: 65), and Mejuto-Vazquez et al (centrality: 0.36) were the most representative and symbolic. Based on the co-cited literature and keywords, myofascial trigger point, research methods, and acupuncture were the hot research topics and trends in the field.
    Conclusion: The current status and trends in clinical research of DN for MPS are revealed according to the results of this bibliometric study, which may facilitate researchers to identify hot topics and new directions for future research.

      Parthenolide (PTL) is a new compound extracted from traditional Chinese medicine. In recent years, it has been proven to play an undeniable role in tumors, autoimmune diseases, and inflammatory diseases. Similarly, an increasing number of experiments have also confirmed the biological mechanism of PTL in these diseases. In order to better understand the development trend and potential hot spots of PTL in cancer and other diseases, we conducted a detailed bibliometric analysis. The purpose of presenting this bibliometric analysis was to highlight and inform researchers of the important research directions, co-occurrence relationships and research status in this field. Publications related to PTL research from 2002 to 2022 were extracted on the web of science core collection (WoSCC) platform. CiteSpace, VOSviewers and R package "bibliometrix" were applied to build relevant network diagrams. The bibliometric analysis was presented in terms of performance analysis (including publication statistics, top publishing countries, top publishing institutions, publishing journals and co-cited journals, authors and co-cited authors, co-cited references statistics, citation bursts statistics, keyword statistics and trend topic statistics) and science mapping (including citations by country, citations by institution, citations by journal, citations by author, co-citation analysis, and keyword co-occurrence). The detailed discussion of the results explained the focus and latest trends from the bibliometric analysis. Finally, the current status and shortcomings of the research field on PTLwere clearly pointed out for reference by scholars.

      The main purpose of this bibliometric analysis is to conduct a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the publications on dental caries. Research productivity can be measured with the use of bibliometric analysis. In this study, we conducted a bibliometric analysis using the Scopus database to identify dental caries research trends and patterns over the years. The search yielded 1630 scientific articles. The data was analysed using bibliometric indicators such as the h-index, the total number of citations and the number of publications. An analysis of the data highlighted that the United States of America (USA) and Brazil have the highest number of single-country publications. Top authors were listed based on the h-index and the total number of citations. Top cited countries, institutions etc. were also analysed using this bibliometric study. This bibliometric evaluation provides a wide area of literature carried out to date. The existing knowledge can be used to direct future research.

       Background: Prevention and treatment of colorectal adenoma (CRA) are great significant to reduce morbidity and mortality of colorectal cancer. Although there have been numerous studies on CRA recently, few publications utilized the bibliometrics to evaluate this field. The objective of current study was to provide a comprehensive analysis of the current state and frontier progress of CRA over the past 20 years.
    Methods: The Web of Science Core Collection was utilized to extracted all studies of CRA during 2002-2022. Bibliometric tools including CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and the Online Analysis Platform of Literature Metrology were used for statistical analysis. CiteSpace and the Online Analysis Platform were used to evaluate the contributions of various countries/regions, institutions, authors, and journals in this field. Research hotspots and trends were identified through keywords and references analysis by VOSviewer and CiteSpace.
    Results: 2,268 publications from 2002 to 2022 in total were identified. The number of global publications in this field has increased annually. The USA was the most productive country, contributing nearly 30% of global publications. But in recent years, China's publications grew rapidly and had the highest citation strength. The most productive institutions was the National Cancer Institute. Baron JA from the USA was the most productive and the one of most co-cited authors. Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers & Prevention had the highest number of publications and Gastroenterology was the most co-cited journals. Analysis of keywords clusters showed that "mechanism/pathophysiology", "risk factors and prevention", "colonoscopy screening and treatment", "metabolism", and "microbiota" were the major frontier topics and the main research directions.
    Conclusions: CRA publications have shown a gradual upward trend in recent years, most of which have been published by developed countries. Developing countries should further focus on CRA research and transnational cooperation with developed countries in the future, in order to better improve the situation of the increasing morbidity and mortality of CRC. Baron JA was the most outstanding researcher in this field. More attention should be devoted to "pathogenesis of CRA", "less invasive diagnostic methods", "chemoprevention", and "screening and risk prediction of CRA including gut microbiome and metabolism", which will be frontiers in the future.

       Background: Acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) is life-threatening and needs urgent and highly invasive surgery. So far, there is no comprehensive review of the status quo of ATAAD studies. Therefore, this study aimed to quantify and identify the global trends of ATAAD research over the past two decades through bibliometric analysis and to provide reference for clinical practice, research funding allocation, and decision-making.
    Methods: The original research articles and reviews related to ATAAD research were downloaded from the Web of Science Core Collection on March 19, 2023. CiteSpace (6.2.1) and VOSviewer (1.6.18) were used for bibliometric analysis of the number of publications by each country, institution, and authors and the establishment of knowledge maps. The raw data collected were examined using the Online Analysis Platform of Bibliometric to assess the collaboration of countries in the field.
    Results: The number of documents on ATAAD research increased continuously. A total of 1,943 publications published from 2002 to 2022 from 66 countries/regions were identified: 637 (32.78%) were conducted in China and 360 (18.53%) in the United States; 152 (cited frequency 941) were conducted by Capital Medical University and 107 (cited frequency 370) by Fujian Medical University. The Journal of Cardiac Surgery was the most frequently published journal (143 publications, cited frequency 695). The highest citation and co-cited journal was the Annals of Thoracic Surgery (cited frequency 3,888, co-cited frequency 6,224). We identified 8,050 authors among which Lizhong Sun (61 publications, cited frequency 721) had the largest number of publications, and Nienaber Christoph A (cited frequency 1,536, co-cited frequency 392) was co-cited most often. Meanwhile, the most common keywords were acute type A aortic dissection (occurrences, 1,211), surgery (occurrences, 657), repair (occurrences, 404), and management (occurrences, 386). The earliest and latest used keywords were "axillary artery" (average publication year: 2011.23) and "inflammation" (average publication year: 2019.09), respectively. The keyword "surgical treatment" (strength 12.31) and the co-cited reference "Evangelista A, 2018, Circulation" (strength 28.55) had the highest citation bursts. The keywords "impact" and "acute kidney injury" remained high citation bursts. The co-cited references with the largest and smallest size clusters were "cerebral protection" (#0, size = 126) and "pregnancy" (#12, size = 11). The reference "Hagan PG, 2000, JAMA" (cited frequency, 350) had the highest co-citations.
    Conclusions: The bibliometric and visualized analysis generated objective evidence for a comprehensive understanding and evaluation of ATAAD research.

       Background: Neuropathic pain is caused by a neurological injury or disease and can have a significant impact on people's daily lives. Studies have shown that neuropathic pain is commonly associated with neurodegenerative diseases. In recent years, there has been a lot of literature on the relationship between neuropathic pain and neurodegenerative diseases. However, bibliometrics is rarely used in analyzing the general aspects of studies on neuropathic pain in neurodegenerative diseases.
    Methods: The bibliometric analysis software CiteSpace and VOSviewer were used to analyze the knowledge graph of 387 studies in the Science Citation Index Expanded of the Web of Science Core Collection Database.
    Results: We obtained 2,036 documents through the search, leaving 387 documents after culling. 387 documents were used for the data analysis. The data analysis showed that 330 papers related to neuropathic pain in neurodegenerative diseases were published from 2007-2022, accounting for 85.27% of all published literature. In terms of contributions to the scientific study of neuropathic pain, the United States is in the top tier, with the highest number of publications, citations, and H-indexes.
    Conclusion: The findings in our study may provide researchers with useful information about research trends, frontiers, and cooperative institutions. Multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, and Alzheimer's disease are the three most studied neurodegenerative diseases. Among the pathological basis of neurodegenerative diseases, microglia-regulated neuroinflammation is a hot research topic. Deep brain stimulation and gamma knife radiosurgery are two popular treatments.

      Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a globally prevalent neurodegenerative disorder, the underlying causes and mechanisms of which remain elusive. The emerging interest in the potential connection between gut microbes and AD prompted our study to investigate this field through bibliometric analysis. To examine research trends over the past decade, we collected relevant data using search terms associated with gut microbiota and AD from the Web of Science Core Collection. Our analysis involved various tools, including R (version 4.2.2), VOSviewer (version 1.6.18), CiteSpace software (version 6.2.R1), and an online bibliometric platform. Our findings identified a total of 1170 articles published between 2012 and 2022, indicating a consistent growth of research interest in this area. Notably, China significantly contributed with 40.7% (374) of the publications, signifying its prominent role in this field. Among the journals, the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease published the highest number of articles (57; 4.9%). In terms of author influence, Wang Y, with an H-index of 13, emerged as the most influential author. Additionally, Shanghai Jiaotong University was the most productive institution, accounting for 66 articles (5.6%). Through keyword analysis, we grouped high-frequency keywords into six clusters: gut microbiota, AD, neuroinflammation, gut-brain axis, oxidative stress, and chain fatty acids. Chain fatty acids, oxidative stress, and the gut-brain axis emerged as dominant research topics in the past five years. Recent studies have specifically focused on "nlrp3 inflammasome" and "clearance" (2020-2022), indicating shifting research interests within this field. This bibliometric analysis aims to provide insights into the evolving landscape of research on the gut microbiota and AD. Our results identify key research trends and themes while highlighting potential research gaps. The findings offer valuable perspectives for future investigations, advancing our understanding of AD and exploring potential therapeutic strategies.

      Amitriptyline was first introduced as a medication to treat depression. Over time, this substance has been used to treat other conditions, such as gastrointestinal disorders, fibromyalgia, neuropathic pain, and analgesia, among others. However, there are no published studies that provide a broad view of the possible motivations that have led to changes in the use of amitriptyline. In this study, we have identified the landscape of use for amitriptyline based on knowledge mapping of the 100 most-cited articles about this drug. We searched Web of Science Core Collection without time and language restrictions. We obtained 14,446 results, but we only used the 100 most-cited articles that had amitriptyline as the object of study. We collected the following information from each article: authors, country of the corresponding authors, year of publication, citation count, citation density (number of citations per year), and keywords. In addition, we seek to map in the chosen articles study design and research findings. We found that since 1980, the use of amitriptyline has expanded beyond depression, moving to off-label use to treat a variety of diseases and conditions, including post-herpetic neuralgia, neuropathic pain, primary fibrosis, fibromyalgia, and migraine, can be considered a drug with more clinical applicability than its original clinical indication.

      In recent years, BCT has garnered significant attention from researchers worldwide. The technology in question is a distributed database system characterised by its decentralised nature and lack of reliability. BCT has been widely adopted by numerous governments and scholars across various sectors for a number of years. Blockchain technology also involves highly innovative and advanced concepts. Given the increasing interest among scholars in the academic community regarding the agrifood supply chain, the objective of this study was to investigate BCT and its potential for application in the fields of food and agriculture. This research paper presents a bibliometric analysis of articles on the utilisation of BCT in the fields of food and agriculture. This study discusses scholarly articles that have been published in esteemed academic journals and conferences. Through our bibliometric analysis, we aimed to discern the recurring trends and themes within the research on BCT in relation to agrifood systems. Furthermore, this study examines a diverse array of research domains, prominent scholarly publications, leading publishing platforms, prominent funding institutions, and the prospective trajectory of future research. This study also presents the prominent patterns and themes within this field through an analysis of the most influential scholarly articles, authors, countries, and keywords found in the existing literature. Hence, this research employed various analytical techniques, including analyzing the co-occurrence of author keywords, bibliographic coupling analysis, network view map analysis, and co-citation analysis. This study holds promise as a valuable learning resource for aspiring researchers seeking to acquire compelling and pertinent information about research outcomes from studies on the utilisation of BCT in the field of smart agriculture.

      Alzheimer's disease (AD) has attracted considerable attention from the public and scientific researchers, leading to a rapid growth in relevant research on this disorder in the last 10 years. The present study aimed to conduct a bibliometric analysis to elucidate the trends of global research on the role of apolipoprotein E in AD in the past decade. Three bibliometric software (CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and R Bibliometrix) were used to analyze the active journals, countries/regions, institutes, authors, co-cited references, and keywords in this field. The USA was the most influential country, and the University of California was the most productive institute. Zetterberg H contributed the highest number of publications, and Petersen RC was the most cited author in this field. On the basis of the co-cited reference analysis, knowledge base on biomarkers, risk factors, and mechanisms were updated in the past decade. Current research hotspots are shifting to tau-related mechanisms and identification of genetic risk factors. Our study provides insights into the developing knowledge base and trends related to research on apolipoprotein E in AD, which may provide new directions for further research in this field.

       Objective: This follow-up study aims to determine if and how the coverage of funding information in Web of Science Core Collection (WoS) and Scopus changed from 2015 to 2021.
    Methods: The number of all funded articles published in 2021 was identified in WoS and Scopus bibliographic databases using bibliometric analysis on a sample of 52 prestigious medical journals.
    Results: The analysis of the number of funded articles with funding information showed statistically significant differences between Scopus and WoS due to substantial differences in the number of funded articles between some single journals.
    Conclusion: Due to significant differences in the number of funded articles indexed in WoS and Scopus, which might be attributed to the different protocols for handling funding data in WoS and Scopus, we would still advise using both databases to obtain and analyze funding information.

      The interest in precision livestock farming (PLF)-a concept discussed for the first time in the early 2000s-has advanced considerably in recent years due to its important role in the development of sustainable livestock production systems. However, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the PLF literature is lacking. To address this gap, this study analyzed documents published from 2005 to 2021, aiming to understand the historical influences on technology adoption in livestock farming, identify future global trends, and examine shifts in scientific research on this topic. By using specific search terms in the Web of Science Core Collection, 886 publications were identified and analyzed using the bibliometrix R-package. The analysis revealed that the collection consisted mostly of research articles (74.6%) and reviews (10.4%). The top three core journals were the Journal of Dairy Science, Computers and Electronics in Agriculture, and Animals. Over time, the number of publications has steadily increased, with a higher growth rate in the last five years (29.0%) compared to the initial period (13.7%). Authors and institutions from multiple countries have contributed to the literature, with the USA, the Netherlands, and Italy leading in terms of publication numbers. The analysis also highlighted the growing interest in bovine production systems, emphasizing the importance of behavioral studies in PLF tool development. Automated milking systems were identified as central drivers of innovation in the PLF sector. Emerging themes for the future included "emissions" and "mitigation", indicating a focus on environmental concerns.

       Background: Gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy becomes more and more common now in order to diagnose and treat GI diseases, and anesthesia/sedation plays an important role. We aim to discuss the developmental trends and evaluate the research hotspots using bibliometric methods for GI endoscopy anesthesia/sedation in the past two decades.
    Methods: The original and review articles published from 2001 to December 2022 related to GI endoscopy anesthesia/sedation were extracted from the Web of Science database. Four different softwares (CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Bibliometrix, Online Analysis Platform of Literature Metrology (Bibliometric)) were used for this comprehensive analysis.
    Results: According to our retrieval strategy, we found a total of 3154 related literatures. Original research articles were 2855, and reviews were 299. There has been a substantial increase in the research on GI endoscopy anesthesia/sedation in recent 22 years. These publications have been cited 66,418 times, with a mean of 21.04 citations per publication. The US maintained a leading position in global research, with the largest number of publications (29.94%), and China ranked second (19.92%). Keyword burst and concurrence showed that conscious sedation, colonoscopy and midazolam were the most frequently occurring keywords.
    Conclusion: Our research found that GI endoscopy anesthesia/sedation was in a period of rapid development and demonstrated the improvement of medical instruments and surgical options that had significantly contributed to the field of GI endoscopy anesthesia/sedation. The US dominates this field, and the selection and dosage of sedative regimens have always been the foci of disease research to improve comfort and safety, while adverse events and risks arouse attention gradually. In the past 20 years, hotspots mainly focus on upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, gastroscopy, and esophagogastroduodenoscopy. These data would provide future directions for clinicians and researchers regarding GI endoscopy anesthesia/sedation.

      BACKGROUND Post-intensive care syndrome (PICS) has become a major concern for patients and their families due to the rising number of ICU admissions. We conducted a bibliometric analysis to identify hotspots and trends in PICS research. MATERIAL AND METHODS We searched for PICS-related publications in the Web of Science Core Collection up to May 1, 2022. We used CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Scimago Graphica to analyze collaboration among countries, institutions, and authors, and to identify research hotspots and frontiers. RESULTS Our analysis included 294 research papers on PICS, with the United States leading the field with 146 published papers. Collaboration among institutions and authors was active mainly in the Americas, Europe, and Australia. Highly cited researchers were members of the Outcomes After Critical Illness and Surgery (OACIS) Group, with Ramona O Hopkins as the most published author. Research topics focused on septic shock, COVID-19, qualitative research, and rehabilitation, with publications primarily in critical care medicine journals. Keyword analysis revealed that the main research focus included stress disorders, quality of life, mechanical ventilation, acute lung injury, risk factors, and descriptive studies during hospitalization. CONCLUSIONS PICS research is limited, focusing primarily on short-term clinical effects and lacking long-term prognostic observations and multinational studies. Increased collaboration among countries and regions is necessary to advance research in this field. Hotspots in research focus on prognosis and an integrated approach to management.

       Background: Scientometric analyses of specific topics in geriatrics and gerontology have grown robustly in scientific literature. However, analyses using holistic and interdisciplinary approaches are scarce in this field of research.
    Objective: This article aimed to demonstrate research trends and provide an overview of bibliometric information on publications related to geriatrics and gerontology.
    Methods: We identified relevant articles on geriatrics and gerontology using the search terms "geriatrics," "gerontology," "older people," and "elderly". VOSviewer was used to perform bibliometric analysis.
    Results: A total of 858 analyzed articles were published in 340 journals. Among the ten most contributory journals, five were in the United States (US), with the top journal being the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. The US was the leading country in research, followed by Japan, Canada, and the United Kingdom. A total of 5,278 keywords were analyzed. In the analysis of research hotspots, the main global research topics in geriatrics and gerontology were older adults (n=663), education and training (n=471), and adults aged 80 years (n= 461). These were gradually expanded to include areas related to caring for older adults, such as geriatric assessments (n=395).
    Conclusion: These results provide direction for fellow researchers to conduct studies in geriatrics and gerontology. In addition, they provide government departments with guidance for formulating and implementing policies that affect older adults, not only in setting academic and professional priorities but also in understanding key topics related to them.

       BACKGROUND: Altmetric Attention Score (AAS) and PlumX Metrics are becoming important to evaluate the impact of the publication in addition to classical scientific rating method such as citation count and impact factor. These metrics collect data about publications' tweet count, Facebook interaction count and other social interactions. In this study, it is aimed to examine the association between AAS, PlumX Metrics and citation count of top child and adolescent psychiatry.
    METHODS: We identified the five journals and retrospectively analysed the publications published in 2019. All the original research articles, met analysis, and reviews were analysed. The articles were divided into two groups as original articles/research articles and meta-analysis/systematic review. We have hypothesized that there could be a positive correlation between AAS and PlumX Metrics data and citation count among these journals and there could be a difference between AAS, PlumX scores and citation count between original articles/research articles and meta-analysis/systematic review as their reading potential is different.
    RESULTS: We have found a significant positive correlation between citation count, AAS and PlumX Metrics. This association continued after controlling the journal impact factor. In linear regression analysis, type of publication, total count of tweets, and Mendeley reads predicted the citation count.
    CONCLUSION: In addition to the classical methods measuring the quality of the articles such as the total citation count and impact factor, the importance of AAS and PlumX Metrics has been increasing. It is important to share scientific publications on these platforms in order to increase the impact of the articles.

      In recent years, there has been a rise in studies aimed at better understanding the needs and traits of emerging adults and the role that higher education institutions play in their development and success. Despite the relevance of higher education institutions to the emerging adulthood development, there has been scant work done to synthesise the literature on this topic. A bibliometric method was utilised to retrieve 2484 journal articles from Web of Science (WoS). Utilizing co-citation analysis and co-word analysis, we determined the most influential publications, mapped the knowledge structure, and predicted future trends. The results of the co-citation analysis indicate five clusters, while the co-word analysis indicates four. The results could be used as a roadmap for the future of research on emerging adults by a variety of interested parties, including policymakers, university administrators, funders, and academics.

       BACKGROUND: Research related to neonatal pain management has received increasing attention in recent years. Effective pain management contributes to the maintenance of the healthy physical and mental growth of the newborn. To better understand this research topic, we analyzed the current state of development in this field over the past thirteen years by bibliometric analysis and provide directions for future research.
    METHODS: Original articles were collected from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) between January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2022, the title and abstract clearly stating 'neonatal pain management' or its alternative search keywords. CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and the WoS analysis tool were used to analyze and present the data.
    RESULTS: A total of 967 articles met the inclusion criteria. Significant growth of the number of publications increased roughly fourfold from 2010 to 2022. Overall, the United States and Canada were the highest contributors to neonatal pain management research. Weak cooperation was observed in international research (developing and developed countries) and cross-institutional cooperation. Neonatal pain-related research was the most common focus. Pain education and interventions for parents and medical personnel have also received increasing attention recently.
    CONCLUSION: The current study revealed that research in terms of publications on neonatal pain management has rapidly increased for more than the past ten years. Developed countries, especially the United States and Canada, were more concerned with this topic than developing countries. More international research and cross-institutional cooperation are required to promote the development of neonatal pain medicine in the future.

       BACKGROUND: About 70% to 80% of epilepsy cases are related to genetic factors. Genetic research has revealed the genetic etiology and molecular mechanisms of childhood epilepsy, which has increased our understanding of childhood epilepsy.
    METHODS: We searched the core collection of Web of Science for relevant papers on genetic research on childhood epilepsy published since 2010 on November 30, 2022. In this study, original articles and reviews in English were included. Using CiteSpace and VOSviewer online tools, we conducted a bibliometric analysis of the countries, institutions, journals, co-cited journals, co-cited references, keywords, and research hotspots.
    RESULTS: We evaluated 2500 literatures on epilepsy genomics in children. Among them, 96 countries published relevant articles, with the United States ranking the most. A total of 389 institutions have contributed relevant publications, and the University of Melbourne has published the most papers. Epilepsy journals were the most commonly cited. The references of papers were clustered into 9 categories: gene testing, epileptic encephalopathy, Dravet syndrome, focal cortical dysplasia, Rolandic epilepsy, copy number variation, ketogenic diet, monogenic epilepsy, and ptt2 mutation. Burst keywords represent the frontier of research, including developmental and epileptic encephalopathy (2021-2022), neurodevelopmental disorders (2020-2022), gene testing (2020-2022), and whole-exome sequencing (2019-2022).
    CONCLUSION: This study conducted a systematic and objective bibliometric analysis of the literature on epilepsy gene research in children. More importantly, it revealed the hot spot, frontier, and future developmental trends in the field. It will help pediatricians and geneticists further understand the dynamic evolution of genetic research on pediatric epilepsy.

       Purpose: Although remimazolam is a popular novel anesthetic, there is a lack of data in the literature about current and future trends. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore emerging trends and potential hotspots of remimazolam research over the past 15 years through bibliometric methods.
    Methods: Relevant articles on remimazolam published from 2007 to 2022 and propofol from 1997 to 2001 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Data were collected using Microsoft Excel and graphs were generated with the Bibliometrix package in R software. Visual bibliometric maps were created using VOS viewer and CiteSpace software.
    Results: In total, 184 articles were included for analysis. Remimazolam-related research tended to increase, especially from 2020 to 2022. China produced the most publications (327), whereas the USA dominated in quality (h-index = 16). Among institutions, PAION Deutschland GmbH produced the most articles (Np = 21). Similar to initial research and development of propofol, the hotspots of remimazolam research have extended beyond pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics to adverse reactions, clinical scenarios, specific populations, and compatible regimens, as confirmed by high numbers of common references and keywords.
    Conclusion: Remimazolam research has developed rapidly over the past two years. Remimazolam can achieve faster onset and recovery, and more stable hemodynamics than midazolam or propofol, enabling gradual piloting of applications from endoscopy and general anesthesia to sedation of critical care patients; foreseeing specific population (patients with hepatic or renal impairment and reduced cardiovascular reserve, the elderly, and children) through compatible anesthetics regimens to more optimal and safe. Future studies of remimazolam are likely to include adverse reactions, effects on different organ systems, and identification of monitoring indicators.

      The purpose of this study was to look at research trends in the application of CTM in animal nutrition in order to identify current and emerging challenges, as well as to examine the intellectual structure of the subject. The intellectual structure of CTM was examined using keyword and reference analysis. The research community includes all research and review articles published in journals indexed in the Web of Science database during the years 1990-2022. The results showed that the terms zinc, co-occurring 331 times, performance (324 times), and copper 216 (times) were the main and hotspots of research in the field of chelate. The data suggest that the most important keywords during the study period were zinc, copper, pig, bovine, metabolism, and bioavailability. The terms health, muscle, beef, trace elements, and dietary supplements represent emerging topics in CTM, as research began to focus on these areas during the years 2017-2022. The country with the greatest number of published articles was the United States of America. This bibliometric analysis showed that countries are focusing on the effects of CTM on the health and musculature of cattle through dietary supplementation with trace elements. According to the identified hot and emerging topics, this research can serve as a roadmap for a global comprehensive scientific plan and policy.

       Objectives: To evaluate foot and ankle documents using scientometric methods and provide insight into global research activities.
    Methods: This scientometric study was conducted at the Department of Spine Surgery, Ganzhou People's Hospital, China. Documents on foot and ankle from 1980 to 2019 were retrieved from the Scopus database. The number of documents, year of publication, journal, country, institution, author, h-index, and top-cited documents were analyzed.
    Results: In total, 11313 documents were retrieved. The annual research output on foot and ankle showed a dramatic increase over the past four decades, especially in the past decade (p = 0.000). Foot & Ankle International published the biggest number of documents (44.48%). The United States contributed more than half (52.17%) of the global production, followed by the United Kingdom (11.39%), and Germany (3.62%). The United States had the highest h-index (109). The Hospital for Special Surgery (1.87%) ranked first in terms of productivity, followed by Union Memorial Hospital (1.37%), and Duke University Medical Center (1.24%). The most productive author was Myerson MS (1.25%), followed by Schon LC (0.77%), and Hyer CF (0.74%).
    Conclusion: Research on foot and ankle has thrived rapidly over the past four decades, particularly in the last decade. The United States contributes the most to the quantity and quality of foot and ankle documents.

      Stroke is an acute cerebrovascular disease resulting from either obstruction or rupture of a blood vessel in the brain. Oxidative stress (OS), referred to a status where cellular oxidative capacities overwhelm antioxidative defenses, is involved in the pathophysiology of stroke. The bibliometric analysis and in-depth review aim to depict the research trend of OS in stroke. Relevant scientific publications were acquired from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Scientific landscape of OS in stroke was illustrated by general quantitative trend, impactful journals, and co-authorship of various academic units (i.e., countries/regions, organizations, and authors). Furthermore, theme analysis predicting the hot research issues and frontiers was performed. 15,826 documents regarding OS in stroke were obtained over a time span of more than 20 years from 1992 to 2021. The overall tendency of publication counts was continuously on the rise. Bibliometric analysis indicated China and the United States were predominant in this study field, as reflected by their high publication counts and intensive collaboration with other countries. Current key research areas of OS in stroke may lie in the investigation of neuroinflammation, and interaction among multiple cell death mechanisms including apoptosis, autophagy, and ferroptosis to search for effective treatments. Moreover, another hot topic could be the association between air pollution and stroke, and its underlying mechanisms. As the exploration of OS in stroke is speculated to be a continuous hot spot in the future, this article may be helpful for researchers to conduct future studies with the understanding of influential academic forces and research highlights.

      The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disc displacement is the most common temporomandibular disorders (TMD) condition. It causes clicking, pain, limited mandibular movements, and even masticatory difficulties in many people. The aim of this study is showcasing hotspots and frontiers in the field and providing a reference for the future research by a bibliometric analysis. Studies published from 1992 to 2022 were retrieved from Web of Science Core Collection on 23 April 2023. A total of 1882 studies (1739 articles and 143 reviews) were included in the bibliometric analysis. From 1992 to 2022, the annual number of publications and citations greatly increased. The United States of America (USA) contributed the most publications about TMJ disc displacement. Shanghai Jiao Tong University was the most productive institution; meanwhile, Yang, C. from this institution was the most prolific author. The University of Washington was the most influential institution, and Brooks, S. was the most influential author. Diagnostic criteria and management of TMJ disc displacement, as well as TMJ disc displacement-associated conditions, might be a hotspot for current global research. We provided an objective and valuable reference for future research on TMJ disc displacement.

      Green loyalty is a crucial factor that influences consumers' purchase intentions and is essential for the sustainable development of ecological environments. However, research on this topic is still scattered, and exploring the research hotspots and trends of green loyalty is vital for future studies. This systematic literature review clarified the conceptual content, structure, and measurement of green loyalty. Additionally, the study conducted a bibliometric analysis of 236 articles on green loyalty from 2002 to 2022 in the Web of Science database. The content analysis revealed the theoretical basis, antecedent and outcome variables, and mechanisms of green loyalty, providing important guidance for future research.

      Bibliometric studies on inherited metabolic diseases (IMDs) do not exist in the literature. Therefore, our research aims to conduct a bibliometric study to determine the current status, trending topics, and missing points of publications on IMDs. Between 1968 and 2023, we conducted a literature search with the keyword "inherited metabolic disease" in the SCOPUS database. We included research articles in medicine written in English and published in the final section. We created our data pool using VOSviewer, SciMAT, and Rstudio software programs for the bibliometric parameters of the articles that met the inclusion criteria. We performed a bibliometric analysis of the data with the R package "bibliometrix" and BibExcel programs. We included 2702 research articles published on IMDs. The top three countries that have written the most articles in this field are the USA (n = 501), the United Kingdom (n = 182), and China (n = 172). The most preferred keywords by the authors were: newborn screening (n = 54), mutation (n = 43), phenylketonuria (n = 42), children (n = 35), genetics (n = 34), and maple syrup urine disease (n = 32). Trending topics were osteoporosis, computed tomography, bone marrow transplantation in the early years of the study, chronic kidney disease, urea cycle disorders, next-generation sequencing, newborn screening, and familial hypercholesterolemia in the final years of the study. This study provides clinicians with a new perspective, showing that molecular and genetic studies of inherited metabolic diseases will play an essential role in diagnosis and treatment in the future.

      Biomedical graduate student and postdoctoral education and training research has expanded greatly over the last seven decades, leading to increased publications and the emergence of a field. The goal of this study was to analyze this growth by performing a cross-sectional bibliometric analysis using a systematic approach to better understand the publishing trends (including historical vs. emerging themes and research priorities); depth, structure, and evidence-basis of content; and venues for publication. The analysis documented a dramatic increase in biomedical trainee-related publications over time and showed that this area of research is maturing into its own independent field. Results demonstrated that the most frequently published article types in this field are shorter editorial and opinion pieces, and that evidence-based articles are less numerous. However, if current trends continue, projections indicate that by the year 2035, evidence-based articles will be the dominating article type published in this field. Most frequently published topics included career outcomes and workforce characterization and professional development. In recent years, the most cited articles were publications focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion, career outcomes and workforce characterization, and wellness. This study also shows that although a small subset of journals publishes most of this literature, publications are distributed diffusely across a wide range of journals and that surprisingly 68% of these journals have published only a single article on the topic. Further, we noted that the assignment of author- and index-supplied keywords was variable and inconsistent and speculate that this could create challenges to conducting comprehensive literature searches. Recommendations to address this include establishing standard keyword assignment criteria and proposing new index-supplied keywords to improve accessibility of research findings. These changes will be important for bringing visibility of this literature to our community, institutional leaders, national trainee organizations, and funding agencies.

       Background: Obesity has increasingly become a health threat in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries. This study aimed to investigate the scientific publications on obesity in the MENA countries during 2008-2020.
    Methods: A longitudinal analysis of 13 years (2008-2020) of bibliographic data from obesity-related articles was performed. Web of Science core collection (WoS) was searched for bibliographic data. The bibliometric indicators including overall productivity and collaboration along with the prevalence of obesity and socioeconomic status were used to assess and compare the context of obesity research efforts in the MENA region.
    Results: The overall obesity-related articles of the MENA countries cumulated to 23680 publications. The MENA region accounted for a 6.5% global publication share in obesity research. Turkey contributed the highest rate of total publications (n=6162) followed by Iran (n=5302) and Israel (n=2847). Iran and Turkey had the lowest rates of international collaborations. The overall obesity research was not significantly associated with socio-demographic index (SDI) measure (r=-0.26, P=0.27). No significant association was found between Gross National Income (GNI) per capita and the overall production of obesity research (r=0.41, P=0.08). Additionally, obesity research was not significantly associated with the prevalence of obesity in the countries (r=0.24, P=0.30).
    Conclusion: This study observed an increased share of scientific productivity in the field of obesity from the MENA countries. Neither SDI, GNI per capita, nor obesity prevalence was not significantly associated with the overall productivity of the region.

      We aimed to evaluate current trends and future directions in the field of AI research since ChatGPT was launched. We performed a bibliometric analysis of the literature published during the first 7 months of the life of ChatGPT since its introduction, updated to July 1st, 2023. Seven hundred and twenty-four (724) articles were retrieved. This analysis highlights a significant increase in publications exploring ChatGPT use across various medical disciplines, indicating its expanding relevance in healthcare. A decline proportion of studies focusing on ethical considerations was observed. Simultaneously, there was a steady increase in studies focused on the exploration of possible applications of ChatGPT. As ChatGPT applications continue to expand, ongoing vigilance and collaborative efforts to optimize ChatGPT performance are essential in harnessing the benefits while mitigating the risks of AI use in healthcare.

       BACKGROUND: The global community has been affected by COVID-19, which emerged in December 2019. Since then, many studies have been conducted on kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) and COVID-19. This study aimed to perform a bibliometric and visual analysis of the published relationship between KTRs and COVID-19.
    OBJECTIVE: To discuss the current status, hot spots, and development trend of research on KTRs vaccination with the COVID-19 vaccine and to provide a reference for researchers in related fields.
    METHODS: Visual analysis of countries/regions, institutions, authors, references cited, and keywords for 2020 to 2023 via Microsoft Office Excel 2019 and CiteSpace (6.1.R6) based on the Web of Science core database.
    RESULTS: A total of 366 publications were included after screening, with a rapid increase in the global literature studying the COVID-19 vaccine of KTRs. The US has the highest number of publications, indicating that it is the leading country in this field of research. Charite University of Medicine Berlin and Schrezenmeier E are the most published institutions and authors, respectively. "Antibody Response After a Third Dose of the messenger RNA-1273 SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine in Kidney Transplant Recipients With Minimal Serologic Response to 2 Doses" is the most central co-cited reference; The keywords "kidney transplant recipient," "covid 19 vaccine," and "mortality" have become hot topics of research. The keywords "humoral response" and "bnt162b2" are the latest research frontiers for detecting bursts.
    CONCLUSIONS: This paper analyzed the current status and trends of vaccination studies in KTRs through bibliometric analysis. Several studies support the vaccination of KTRs with the COVID-19 vaccine. However, the evidence for improving vaccine efficacy by adjustment of immunosuppression is still limited, and future studies on vaccination will remain a hot topic in this field.

       OBJECTIVE: To establish the areas of research focus in the application of VR in rehabilitation medicine, analyze its themes and trends, and offer a reference for future related research in this field.
    METHODS: This paper provides an in-depth analysis of the development process, areas of research focus, and research trends in the field of the application of VR in rehabilitation medicine, using the Web of Science core dataset as the source and using a bibliometric analysis with CiteSpace.
    RESULTS: The application of VR in rehabilitation medicine was composed of three stages, and the research topics were reviewed from five perspectives: neurological rehabilitation, psychological treatment, pain distraction, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, and visual-spatial disorder.
    LIMITATIONS: The research data were sourced from the Web of Science core dataset only, and the data-sample size was not comprehensive.
    CONCLUSIONS: Overcoming VR-technology-induced vertigo, mental disorders from the overuse of VR, individualized treatments, and integration with traditional therapy are all challenges in the application of VR in rehabilitation medicine that require research. In addition, developing VR products with better experiences, constructing standardized guidelines, and conducting more high-quality clinical studies are all future research topics related to the application of VR in rehabilitation medicine.

      The two aims of this study were to: 1) identify the 100 most impactful contributors to English-language gerontological journals, and 2) map their respective disciplinary affiliations to help illuminate the perspectives shaping gerontological discourse. Toward that end, we conducted a secondary data analysis of a publicly available database of the world's leading scientists. After extracting all scientists in the gerontological category, we rank ordered them according to a composite measure of scholarly impact that controls for self-citations and author order while also calculating other bibliometric statistics. Disciplinary affiliations were assigned based upon the Classification of Instructional Programs codes developed by the National Center for Education Statistics at the United States Department of Education. The results reveal the mean contributor to the gerontological literature published 241.15 (SD = 203.95) papers and - after correcting for self-citations - had an h-index of 50.05 (SD = 25.00), and an hm-index 23.67 (SD = 7.50). A diverse array of professional affiliations characterized the contributors with a plurality being located in the health professions category, followed by the biological and biomedical science, and social sciences categories. The results reveal that gerontology is home to some of the world's leading scientists. Leveraging their expertise can help advance the field's collective knowledge development.

       Background: Drug-related problems (DRPs) can lead to serious health issues and have significant economic impacts on healthcare systems. One solution to address this issue is the use of computerized physician order entry systems (CPOE), which can help prevent DRPs by reducing the risk of medication errors.
    Objective: The purpose of this study is to provide an analysis on scientific production of the past 20 years in order to describe trends in academic publishing on CPOE and to identify the major topics as well as the predominant actors (journals, countries) involved in this field.
    Methods: A PubMed search was carried out to extract articles related to computerized provider order entry during the period January 1st 2003- December 31st 2022 using a specific query. Data were downloaded from PubMed in Extensible Markup Language (XML) and were processed through a dedicated parser.
    Results: A total of 2,946 articles were retrieved among 623 journals. One third of these articles were published in eight journals. Publications grew strongly from 2002 to 2006, with a dip in 2008 followed by an increase again in 2009. After 2009, there follows a decreasing until 2022.The most producing countries are the USA with 51.39% of the publication over the period by France (3.80%), and Canada (3.77%). About disciplines, the top 3 is: "medical informatics" (21.62% of articles), "pharmacy" (19.04%), and "pediatrics" (6.56%).
    Discussion: This study provides an overview of publication trends related to CPOE, which exhibited a significant increase in the first decade of the 21st century followed by a decline after 2009. Possible reasons for this decline include the emergence of digital health tools beyond CPOE, as well as healthcare professionals experiencing alert fatigue of the current system.
    Conclusion: Future research should focus on analyzing publication trends in the field of medical informatics and decision-making tools to identify other areas of interest that may have surpassed the development of CPOE.

       BACKGROUND: Vonoprazan is an emerging option for the treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection. We aimed to assess the research trends and hotspots of vonoprazan-based therapy for H. pylori eradication through bibliometric analysis.
    MATERIALS AND METHODS: Vonoprazan-based studies for eradicating H. pylori published from 2015 to 2023 were extracted from the Web of Science using a combination of the search terms "H. pylori" and "vonoprazan." Each study was weighted according to the number of included patients.
    RESULTS: A total of 65 studies were included. Japan was the most productive and cooperative country, accounting for 69.2% of publications. Vonoprazan in combination with amoxicillin and clarithromycin (41.8%) was most used for eradicating H. pylori, followed by vonoprazan in combination with amoxicillin (20.4%) and vonoprazan in combination with amoxicillin and metronidazole (19.4%). The eradication rates for first-line vonoprazan-based therapies by intention to treat were: dual therapy (82.9%, 95% CI: 77.7%-88.0%), triple (83.3%, 95% CI: 79.7%-86.8%) and quadruple therapy (91.5%, 95% CI: 85.5%-97.4%), and per protocol: dual therapy (86.1%, 95% CI: 81.5%-90.7%), triple (89.3%, 95% CI: 87.9%-90.6%) and quadruple therapy (94.0%, 95% CI: 88.6%-99.4%). Vonoprazan was superior to proton pump inhibitors in triple therapy regarding empirical therapy (RR = 1.18, 95% CI, 1.14-1.22, p < 0.01) and clarithromycin-resistant group (RR = 1.71, 95% CI, 1.33-2.20, p < 0.01), but there is no significant difference between triple therapy and dual therapy (RR = 1.02, 95% CI, 0.98-1.07, p = 0.33).
    CONCLUSIONS: Vonoprazan has been widely used for H. pylori eradication. Further studies are needed to optimize the best duration and dosage of vonoprazan-based regimens in different regions.

       OBJECTIVE: This study aims to assess the use, impact, and dissemination of preprints in dentistry.
    METHODS: This is a meta-research study with a cross-sectional design. We included preprints published in dentistry, regardless of the year of publication. Searches were performed in the medRxiv.org and Preprints.org platforms and restricted to English. One researcher extracted the data, and another researcher verified data consistency. The following data were extracted: year of publication, country of the corresponding author, number of abstract and full-text views and downloads, Altmetric attention score, whether the preprint was mentioned in other servers such as Twitter and Publons, number of mentions in other servers, number of citations in the Dimensions database, and whether the preprint had already been published in a peer-reviewed journal. If already published, we extracted the journal's impact factor (JCR 2021) and the number of citations in the Dimensions database. We conducted a descriptive analysis of the extracted characteristics and explored relationships between metrics using the Spearman correlation.
    RESULTS: We identified 276 preprints. Most of the studies were published between 2020 and 2022 (n = 229), especially those from ten countries. The most-cited preprint and published article are the same study. Only the correlation between the number of preprint citations and peer-reviewed article citations in the Dimensions database showed a large positive association (Spearman's rho = 0.5809).
    CONCLUSION: Preprints gained popularity over the last several years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and reached a larger audience, especially on platforms such as Twitter.
    CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Preprint publishing allows faster dissemination of science for the benefit of society.

      This study addresses the growing recognition of the importance of food and nutrition literacy, while highlighting the limited research in this field, particularly the gap between research and practice. A bibliometric analysis of publications on food and nutrition literacy research from the Scopus database was carried out. Endnote 20, VOSviewer, and Harzing's Publish or Perish were used to analyze the results. The growth of publications, authorship patterns, collaboration, prolific authors, country contributions, preferred journals, and top-cited articles were the bibliometric indicators used. Subsequently, articles aimed at measuring food or nutrition literacy-implemented programs were analyzed. Existing studies have primarily concentrated on defining and measuring food or nutrition literacy. Although interventions targeting food and nutritional literacy have shown promise in promoting healthy eating, further research is required to identify effective approaches in diverse populations and settings. This study emphasizes the need for additional research to measure intervention program efficacy to enhance the policies and practices in this critical area of public health. These findings underscore the importance of understanding food/nutrition literacy and developing effective interventions to promote healthy eating habits. By bridging the research-practice divide, this study provides valuable insights for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers to address the gaps and improve food/nutrition literacy in various contexts.

      This paper used the mixed research method of bibliometric and content analysis to study 284 studies on service robots in the tourism and hospitality industry collected from the Web of Science database. Results show that research in this field started late, and that the COVID-19 pandemic has promoted the rapid growth of the number of research papers. The International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management has so far published the most number of papers. Numerous scholars from universities in different regions of the world have made significant contributions to the research of service robots, and academic collaborations are relatively common, but there are only very few high-yield authors. Empirical research has been widely favored by researchers, wherein online questionnaire and experimental methods have been frequently used. Multidisciplinary theories have also been cited in related articles, especially on the applications of psychological theories. The research fronts cover four branches focusing on service robots, consumers, human employees, and service environment, with all four parts largely overlapping in content. Finally, the paper discusses prospects for the future research agenda of service robots in the tourism and hospitality industry.

      Obesity is a serious public health problem. According to statistics, there are millions of obese people worldwide. Research studies have discovered a complex and intricate relationship between the gut microbiota and obesity. Probing and summarizing the relationship between intestinal microbes and obesity has important guiding significance for the accurate control of the research direction and expanding the choice of obesity treatment methods. We used bibliometric analysis to analyze the published literature with the intention to reveal the research hotspots and development trends on the effects of intestinal microbes on obesity from a visualization perspective, both qualitatively and quantitatively. The results showed that current research is focusing on related mechanisms of the effects of intestinal microbes on obesity and therapeutic methods for obesity. Several noteworthy hotspots within this field have garnered considerable attention and are expected to remain the focal points of future research. Of particular interest are the mechanisms by which intestinal microbes potentially regulate obesity through metabolite interactions, as well as the role of microbiomes as metabolic markers of obesity. These findings strongly suggest that gut microbes continue to be a key target in the quest for effective obesity treatments. Co-operation and communication between countries and institutions should be strengthened to promote development in this field to benefit more patients with obesity.

       INTRODUCTION: Social media use has exploded in popularity over the past decade with over 1.5 billion users on Facebook and 320 million users on Twitter. The aim of this study was to analyze the use of social media by orthopaedic journals and determine whether a relationship exists between social media followers and journal impact factor.
    METHODS: The Clarivate Analytics Impact Factor tool was used to identify all orthopaedic journals with a 2022 impact factor of greater than 1.5. We then conducted a query on Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook to determine which programs had pages on each platform.
    RESULTS: Seventeen journals were included across all orthopaedic subspecialties. Of the 17 journals, 14 (82.4%) had a Facebook page, eight (47%) had an Instagram page, 15 (88.2%) had a Twitter account, and 8 (47%) had a LinkedIn profile. When compiling the number of followers by social media platform, Twitter had the most (177,543), followed by Facebook (149,388), Instagram (81,739), and LinkedIn (77,459). We found a significant correlation between the number of social media followers and journal impact factor (Pearson correlation coefficient [PCC] = 0.67; P = 0.003). When analyzing each social media platform independently, we found a significant correlation between the number of Facebook and Twitter followers and journal impact factor (PCC = 0.54; P = 0.02 and PCC = 0.80; P < 0.001, respectively).
    DISCUSSION: We have shown a notable association between the number of social media followers and a journal's impact factor. With the increasing shift toward online distribution, orthopaedic journals may use our data when evaluating their social media strategy to maintain and potentially increase their exposure and potentially their impact factor.

      The aim of this study is to analyze the research hotspots and development trends in the field of pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy in China from 2013 to 2022. Based on China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform, China Science and Technology Journal Database, China Biology Medicine disc, Web of Science core collection and PubMed database, the related literatures in the field of pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy in China from 2013 to 2022, were retrieved to establish the database, and the VOSviewer software was used for bibliometric analysis. A total of 1 664 Chinese and 2 149 English literatures are included in this study. The scientific research results from 2013 to 2022 have shown an overall increasing trend. The research hotspots in the field of pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy in China are mainly concentrated in Podocytes, Oxidative stress, Inflammation, Renal fibrosis, Urine protein, etc. The frontier hotspots in this field include Biomarkers, Nrf2, Gut microbiota, NLRP3 inflammasome, Apoptosis, MicroRNA, etc. Through visual analysis, the research hotspots and frontier trends of the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy in China can be visually presented, and then provide new ideas and directions for the further in-depth research on the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy.

      Since the outbreak of COVID-19, countries around the world have faced huge economic and social burdens. SARS-COV-2 may exist in nature for a long time due to the diversity of its different variants. Pregnant women and newborns as vulnerable groups will suffer serious health threats. Bibliometrics as a method of summarizing publications can be used to extract important achievements and hot topics in this field. We search the target publications from the Web of Science Core collection database, and then use Microsoft Office Excel, CiteSpace, R, Scimago, and VOSviewer for visual analysis. Finally, we included 1709 publications from 2998 institutions in 104 countries. The number of publications has exploded since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019. Among them, the USA, China, Britain, and Italy have higher quantity and quality. We identified important journals, authors, keywords, and references in this field. Anxiety, stress, risk of pregnancy complications, and vaccine safety and acceptance have received extensive attention from scholars during the COVID-19 pandemic and will continue to be urgent issues to be addressed in the future. Most of the current studies fall into the category of case reports and clinical data analysis. COVID-19 has been linked to serious pregnancy complications and mental illness, and vaccination during pregnancy is recommended to protect both mother and fetus. Further large-scale cohort studies and discovery of molecular mechanisms are needed in this field.

      With an increasing number of new scientific papers being released, it becomes harder for researchers to be aware of recent articles in their field of study. Accurately classifying papers is a first step in the direction of personalized catering and easy access to research of interest. The field of Density Functional Theory (DFT) in particular is a good example of a methodology used in very different studies, and interconnected disciplines, which has a very strong community publishing many research articles. We devise a new unsupervised method for classifying publications, based on topic modeling, and use a DFT-related selection of documents as a use case. We first create topics from word analysis and clustering of the abstracts from the publications, then attribute each publication/paper to a topic based on word similarity. We then make interesting observations by analyzing connections between the topics and publishers, journals, country or year of publication. The proposed approach is general, and can be applied to analyze publication and citation trends in other areas of study, beyond the field of Density Function Theory.

       Objective: This study aims to find out the coverage of biomedical journals published in Sub-Saharan Africa in four authoritative international databases-Web of Science, Scopus, MEDLINE and EMBASE and two Africa-focused scholarly databases-Africa Journals Online (AJOL) and African Index Medicus (AIM).
    Methods: Lists of active journals that are published in the 46 Sub-Saharan African countries were retrieved from the Ulrich periodical directory to create master journal lists. Unique journals from other databases that were not found in Ulrich were added to the master journal list. The six databases included in this study were searched for journals on the master lists.
    Results: Only 23 of the 46 Sub-Saharan African countries had at least one biomedical journal. Only about one-quarter (152) of the 560 biomedical journals from Sub-Saharan Africa were found in at least one of the biomedical databases. South African journals accounted for more than 50% of all the Sub-Saharan journals in the international scholarly databases. AJOL contains the highest number of biomedical journals from Sub-Saharan Africa, followed by Scopus and EMBASE. AJOL asserts its importance by covering the highest number of unique journals and having a representative number of journals in all biomedical sub-disciplines.
    Conclusion: The majority of studies from Sub-Saharan Africa are left out when biomedical evidence-based researchers only retrieve studies from authoritative international databases. Searching Google Scholar and the African research databases of AJOL and AIM would increase the number of studies from the region.

      Steroidal estrogens (SEs) remain one of the notable endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) that pose a significant threat to the aquatic environment in this era owing to their interference with the normal metabolic functions of the human body systems. They are currently identified as emerging contaminants of water sources. The sources of SEs are either natural or synthetic active ingredients in oral contraceptive and hormonal replacement therapy drugs and enter the environment primarily from excretes in the form of active free conjugate radicals, resulting in numerous effects on organisms in aquatic habitats and humans. The removal of SEs from water sources is of great importance because of their potential adverse effects on aquatic ecosystems and human health. Adsorption techniques have gained considerable attention as effective methods for the removal of these contaminants. A systemic review and bibliometric analysis of the application of adsorption for sequestration were carried out. Metadata for publications on SE removal utilizing adsorbents were obtained from the Web of Science (WoS) from January 1, 1990, to November 5, 2022 (107 documents) and Scopus databases from January 1, 1949, to November 5, 2022 (77 documents). In total, 137 documents (134 research and 4 review articles) were used to systematically map bibliometric indicators, such as the number of articles, most prolific countries, most productive scholars, and most cited articles, confirming this to be a growing research area. The use of different adsorbents, include activated carbon graphene-based materials, single and multi-walled carbon nanotubes, biochar, zeolite, and nanocomposites. The adsorption mechanism and factors affecting the removal efficiency, such as pH, temperature, initial concentration, contact time and adsorbent properties, were investigated in this review. This review discusses the advantages and limitations of different adsorbents, including their adsorption capacities, regenerative potential, and cost-effectiveness. Recent advances and innovations in adsorption technology, such as functionalized materials and hybrid systems, have also been highlighted. Overall, the bibliographic analysis provides a comprehensive overview of the adsorption technique for the removal of SEs from other sources, serving as a valuable resource for researchers and policymakers involved in the development of efficient and sustainable strategies to mitigate the effects of these emerging contaminants.

      Purpose  To identify the top 100 (T100) cited articles on ophthalmic education and examine trends and areas of focus in ophthalmic education. Methods  A literature search was conducted for articles published between 2011 and 2021 related to ophthalmic education within ophthalmology journals using the ISI Web of Science Core Collection database. The search was performed in June 2022 and was conducted using the search phrase ([educat* OR teach* OR instruct* OR train* OR "medical student*" OR residen* OR fellow* OR undergrad* OR postgrad* OR "faculty" OR "attending"] AND *ophthalm*). Results were analyzed using VOSviewer v.1.6.18 and statistical analysis was performed using Microsoft Excel. Results  The majority of articles were published in the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery (19%), followed by Ophthalmology (12%), and Eye (12%). Articles were most often published in the year 2013 (15%), followed by 2014 (12%) and 2012 (12%). Articles most commonly originated from English-speaking countries, including the United States (43%), England (14%), Canada (8%), and India (8%). Topics most often examined in ophthalmic education were resident education (51%), medical school education (21%), and surgical training (21%). The most common study types were cohort studies (22%), case series (21%), and prospective trials (16%). There were 16 institutions that produced more than one article in the T100 articles list. Conclusion  The T100 articles on ophthalmic education were primarily U.S. based and focused on resident education, surgical training, and medical school ophthalmic curriculum. Further research into ophthalmic education is warranted to establish evidence-based curricula guidelines.

      Sleep and diet are essential for maintaining physical and mental health. These two factors are closely intertwined and affect each other in both timing and quality. Eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, are often accompanied by different sleep problems. In modern society, an increasing number of studies are being conducted on the relationship between eating disorders and sleep. To gain a more comprehensive understanding of this field and highlight influential papers as well as the main research domains in this area, a scientometric approach was used to review 727 publications from 1971 to 2023. All documents were retrieved from Scopus through the following string "TITLE-ABS (("sleep" OR "insomnia") AND ("anorexia nervosa" OR "bulimia nervosa" OR "binge eating" OR "eating disorder*") AND NOT "obes*") AND (LIMIT-TO (LANGUAGE, "English"))". A document co-citation analysis was applied to map the relationship between relevant articles and their cited references as well as the gaps in the literature. Nine publications on sleep and eating disorders were frequently cited, with an article by Vetrugno and colleagues on nocturnal eating being the most impactful in the network. The results also indicated a total of seven major thematic research clusters. The qualitative inspection of clusters strongly highlights the reciprocal influence of disordered eating and sleeping patterns. Researchers have modelled this reciprocal influence by taking into account the role played by pharmacological (e.g., zolpidem, topiramate), hormonal (e.g., ghrelin), and psychological (e.g., anxiety, depression) factors, pharmacological triggers, and treatments for eating disorders and sleep problems. The use of scientometric perspectives provides valuable insights into the field related to sleep and eating disorders, which can guide future research directions and foster a more comprehensive understanding of this important area.

      Sarcopenia is an age-related degenerative disease associated with adverse outcomes such as falls, functional decline, weakness, and mortality. Exploring the dynamic evolutionary path and patterns of sarcopenia research topics within a temporal framework from the perspective of strategic coordinate maps and data flow can help identify the development rules of sarcopenia themes. After searching, a total of 16,326 articles were obtained. There are few early research topics, but the development maturity of the topics is high; the number of late research topics continues to increase, showing a trend of diversified development. The differentiation and fusion of the theme evolution path are obvious, and the theme inheritance index is high. The development trend of this research field is promising. The mature and stable professional topics such as "RESISTANCE EXERCISE" and "SURVIVAL" that appeared in the late stage belong to the core topics, while newly emerging topics like "FRACTURES" and "PROTEIN" belong to the marginal topics, indicating that the research on muscle and bone metabolism in the field of sarcopenia has yet to be further in-depth, and the "CANCER" topic is a highly promising research topic with strong development potential.

      The developing central nervous system is vulnerable to several stimuli, especially psychotropic drugs. Sedation procedures during the developmental period are frequent in pediatric intensive care units (PICUs), in which the use of the sedative agent is still a challenge for the PICU team. Ketamine has been indicated for sedation in critically ill children with hemodynamic and ventilatory instabilities, but the possible neurobehavioral consequences related to this use are still uncertain. Here, we performed a bibliometric analysis with conventional metrics and a critical review of clinical findings to reveal a gap in the literature that deserves further investigation. We revealed that only 56 articles corresponded to the inclusion criteria of the study. The United States of America emerges as the main country within the scope of this review. In addition, professional clinical societies play a key role in the publications of scientific clinical findings through the specialist journals, which encourages the sharing of research work. The co-occurrence of keywords evidenced that the terms "sedation", "ketamine", and "pediatric" were the most frequent. Case series and review articles were the most prevalent study design. In the critical evaluation, the scarce studies highlight the need of use and post-use monitoring, which reinforces the importance of additional robust clinical studies to characterize the possible adverse effects resulting from ketamine anesthetic protocol in critically ill children.

       OBJECTIVES: Nephrology in the last 50 years has undergone important scientific developments, which have formally revolutionized clinical practice, including renal biopsy, renal replacement therapy, and transplantation. The understanding of the pathogenesis and the clinical course of renal disease has also steadily improved, resulting in renewal of definitions, classifications, and therapeutics in nephrology. In this context, publications with nephrological content are also expanding. The aim of this bibliographic study was to analyze publications related to nephrology-specific key words in the PubMed database.
    MATERIALS AND METHODS: We included the key words "nephrology," "acute renal failure," "renal biopsy," "hemodialysis," "peritoneal dialysis," and "renal transplantation" as search terms in PubMed in May 2022. We also used the term "kidney" as an alternative to "renal."
    RESULTS: "Nephrology" appeared 185 545 times in searches, with its appearance expanding in the past 3 decades since 1948. The term "acute renal failure" was found in 1932 in 1 publication and in a total number of 92 278 publications. Renal biopsy appeared since 1943 in 18 048 publications. "Hemodialysis" appeared in 182 730 citations, with the first in 1915. "Peritoneal dialysis" appeared in 32 266 citations for the first time in 1901 and in 1946 in human application. One publication on "renal transplantation" appeared in 1946, with 106 075 total publications related to renal transplantation.
    CONCLUSIONS: We viewed a clear expansion of nephro-logical publications in the past decades. Hemodialysis remains the most frequently used term in nephrology-related publications. Historical analysis of the PubMed database is useful as a tool to understand the research and publication trends in nephrology, as we approach the new era of precision medicine.

      This study systematically describes research trends of "industrial design education in China" using bibliometrics mapping from 1992 to 2021. This study aims to sort out industrial design education's historical flow in China and analyze its intrinsic links with Chinese national policies. A combination of quantitative and qualitative methods is used to describe and analyze this study. A technique that combines policy historical analysis with a bibliometric review based on Citespace's knowledge mapping is used in this research. The study was conducted on 492 ″Industrial Design Education" papers included in the core collection database of the China National Knowledge Infrastructure between 1992 and 2021. The results obtained from this study are 1) Research on industrial design education in China has grown steadily over the past three decades and remained high-quality level; 2) The three main research themes are "Chinese culture," "interdisciplinary cooperation" and "government, industry, academia and research" cooperation; 3) Innovation and entrepreneurship, evaluation system, Interdisciplinary, new engineering, and new liberal arts are the research hot spots of Chinese core journals; 4) Interdisciplinary construction in the context of new engineering, assessment system research in the context of high-quality development, and innovation and entrepreneurship education in the context of creative industry development are the future research directions.

       BACKGROUND/AIMS: Deidentified individual participant data (IPD) sharing has been implemented in the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors journals since 2017. However, there were some published clinical trials that did not follow the new implemented policy. This study examines the number of clinical trials that endorsed IPD sharing policy among top ophthalmology journals.
    METHOD: All published original articles in 2021 in 10 highest-ranking ophthalmology journals according to the 2020 journal impact factor were included. Clinical trials were determined by the WHO definition of clinical trials. Each article was then thoroughly searched for the IPD sharing statement either in the manuscript or in the clinical trial registry. We collected the number of published clinical trials that implemented IPD sharing policy as our primary outcome.
    RESULTS: 1852 published articles in top 10 ophthalmology journals were identified, and 9.45% were clinical trials. Of these clinical trials, 44% had clinical trial registrations and 49.14% declared IPD sharing statements. Only 42 (48.83%) clinical trials were willing to share IPD, and 5 (10.21%) of these share IPD via an online repository platform. In terms of sharing period, 37 clinical trials were willing to share right after the publication and only 2 showed the ending of sharing period.
    CONCLUSION: This report shows that the number of clinical trials in top ophthalmology journals that endorsed the IPD sharing policy and the number of registrations is lower than half even though the policy has been implemented for several years. Future updates are necessary as policy evolves.

      Economic complexity is considered key a driver of social change, structural change, and economic development. Economic complexity is mostly used to capture issues apropos product diversification of exports, trade, technological innovation, human knowledge, and skills. The current study has conducted a detailed bibliometric review of economic complexity, export quality, and trade diversification. In doing so, the authors used the literature up to 2021 to unveil economic complexity's contextual information that witnessed structural change, social change, and trade indicators. The current study is the first integrative review to report the theoretical contribution, future research agendas, and thematic analysis of economic complexity, export quality, and export diversification. Our study, on the subject of economic complexity, export diversification, and import diversification in the period from 1966 to 2021, was carried out by systematically scanning 386 documents, and it is one of the pioneering studies in this field. In addition, economic diversity, development, and economic complexity; export diversification, import diversification, trade openness, and economic growth; energy, environmental Kuznets curve, and economic complexity; and sustainability and economic diversification are the four main research topics of the study. The findings are discussed apropos of economic complexity and exports, methodological aspects of economic complexity, and environmental issues nexus with economic complexity. The current study reports novel findings toward a path for achieving SDG-9 (industry and innovation) and SDG-13 (climate action). The biometric review enables researchers and policymakers to understand export quality, economic complexity, and the trade nexus and report future research directions for achieving sustainable growth in industries and innovation.

       Background: Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been an unprecedented effort in genomic epidemiology to sequence the SARS-CoV-2 virus and examine its molecular evolution. This has been facilitated by the availability of publicly accessible databases, GISAID and GenBank, which collectively hold millions of SARS-CoV-2 sequence records. However, genomic epidemiology seeks to go beyond phylogenetic analysis by linking genetic information to patient demographics and disease outcomes, enabling a comprehensive understanding of transmission dynamics and disease impact.While these repositories include some patient-related information, such as the location of the infected host, the granularity of this data and the inclusion of demographic and clinical details are inconsistent. Additionally, the extent to which patient-related metadata is reported in published sequencing studies remains largely unexplored. Therefore, it is essential to assess the extent and quality of patient-related metadata reported in SARS-CoV-2 sequencing studies.Moreover, there is limited linkage between published articles and sequence repositories, hindering the identification of relevant studies. Traditional search strategies based on keywords may miss relevant articles. To overcome these challenges, this study proposes the use of an automated classifier to identify relevant articles.
    Objective: This study aims to conduct a systematic and comprehensive scoping review, along with a bibliometric analysis, to assess the reporting of patient-related metadata in SARS-CoV-2 sequencing studies.
    Methods: The NIH's LitCovid collection will be used for the machine learning classification, while an independent search will be conducted in PubMed. Data extraction will be conducted using Covidence, and the extracted data will be synthesized and summarized to quantify the availability of patient metadata in the published literature of SARS-CoV-2 sequencing studies. For the bibliometric analysis, relevant data points, such as author affiliations, journal information, and citation metrics, will be extracted.
    Results: The study will report findings on the extent and types of patient-related metadata reported in genomic viral sequencing studies of SARS-CoV-2. The scoping review will identify gaps in the reporting of patient metadata and make recommendations for improving the quality and consistency of reporting in this area. The bibliometric analysis will uncover trends and patterns in the reporting of patient-related metadata, such as differences in reporting based on study types or geographic regions. Co-occurrence networks of author keywords will also be presented to highlight frequent themes and their associations with patient metadata reporting.
    Conclusion: This study will contribute to advancing knowledge in the field of genomic epidemiology by providing a comprehensive overview of the reporting of patient-related metadata in SARS-CoV-2 sequencing studies. The insights gained from this study may help improve the quality and consistency of reporting patient metadata, enhancing the utility of sequence metadata and facilitating future research on infectious diseases. The findings may also inform the development of machine learning methods to automatically extract patient-related information from sequencing studies.

       INTRODUCTION: The American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) society has advanced the practice of shoulder and elbow care through the exhibition of research at academic meetings. The ASES annual meeting is a closed (member-only) conference annually held in October, while the specialty day is an open (non-members included) event that takes place during the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) meeting week in March. This study aims to compare the rate of publication for abstracts presented at the open and closed ASES meetings from 2013 to 2019.
    METHODS: The ASES website was searched to obtain the annual meeting and specialty day program agendas from 2013 to 2019. A standardized search protocol was employed to identify conference abstracts that went on to be published. Publications associated with an ASES abstract were analyzed through several variables including the time to publication, journal impact factor (JIF), and level of evidence.
    RESULTS: There was no difference between the rates of publication of the open (76.5%, 121/158) and closed (75.3%, 223/296) meetings (p=0.904). The median time to publication significantly differed between the open (7 months, 95% CI 5.0-10.0) and closed (11 months, 95% CI 9.0-13.0) meetings (p=0.02). There was no difference between the median JIF between the open (2.69, 95% CI 2.41-2.81) and closed (2.73, 95% CI 2.41-2.81) meetings. The distribution of the level of evidence in published articles comparing the open and closed meetings did not differ significantly (p=0.446).
    DISCUSSION: The overall quality of academic research presented at orthopedic subspecialty conferences can be objectively evaluated through abstract publication rates. Our analysis demonstrates there is not a significant difference between the publication rates, median JIF, and level of evidence distribution between the ASES open and closed meetings from 2013 to 2019. Impactful research is showcased at both the open and closed meetings. Societies that limit submissions from members only at annual meetings can consider soliciting research from non-members. While the quality of research would not decline if non-ASES members were invited to participate, the presence of a closed annual meeting may be a valuable tool for societies to expand their reach through member-exclusive benefits.

      This study aims to identify hot spots, research limitations and future research directions in tourism environmental impact assessment (TEIA). We analyzed studies from the core database of Web of Science (WoS) based on their coauthorship, keyword co-occurrence and timeline with VOSviewer and CiteSpace. It was found that China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Spain are the major contributors to TEIA, and relatively stable cooperative groups have been formed among the authors. Research hotspots in the past 20 years mainly include: the impact of tourism activities in different tourist destinations on the environment, the approaches to assess the impact of tourism on the environment, and strategies on reducing the negative impact of tourism on the environment. We also found TEIA deficiency in the following five aspects: 1) insufficient studies on macro decision-making; 2) insufficient dynamic interaction analysis; 3) insufficient tourism heat footprint research; 4) insufficient studies on the positive effects of tourism on the environment; and 5) insufficient interdisciplinary innovation. Based on the findings, we suggest that 1) further studies be conducted on tourism activity type, time scale, macro pattern, environmental process and policy effect of tourism impact assessment with more variables and factors considered; 2) the impact of different types of tourism on each subsystem of the environment and the paths of the interaction among subsystems be explored from the perspective of system governance; 3) the study of thermal footprint generated by tourism activities be given more attention, especially large-scale tourism activities; 4) the positive impact of tourism activities on the ecological environment be studied, especially ecotourism; 5) the applicability of TEIA evaluation results be increased by means of interdisciplinary methods such as big data analysis.

       BACKGROUND: The integrated plastic surgery residency match continues to be highly competitive. Every year, some candidates are former NCAA athletes. While it is challenging to balance academic and athletic responsibilities, participation in NCAA sports may be predictive of continued success.
    OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of participation in collegiate athletics on applicant anticipated rank and academic success.
    METHODS: All applications received from 2017 to 2020 at a single institution were reviewed for participation in NCAA athletics (Division I-III). Our primary outcome of interest was applicant anticipated rank by letter of reference writers. Applications were also examined for demographic information, membership in AOA, number of research publications, and USMLE board certification examination scores.
    RESULTS: After reviewing 885 applications, 61 applicants (6.89%) were former NCAA athletes. Former NCAA involvement was associated with the highest effect on anticipated ranking (- 0.22, p=0.001). Former NCAA involvement demonstrated the highest odds of receiving an anticipated ranking in the top 5 (OR 1.83, p=0.025). We found no significant difference in research productivity between the two groups, including first authorships or USMLE Step 1 board certification exam scores. A significant difference was seen in race distribution, with forty-five (80.4%) of athlete applicants identifying as Caucasian, while 430 (56.5%) of non-athletes identified as Caucasian (p=0.012).
    CONCLUSION: Former athletes applying to become integrated plastic surgery residents overcome the challenges of balancing athletic and academic pursuits with a higher anticipated rank in the integrated plastic surgery match while having comparable academic achievement. Former collegiate athletes have demonstrated greater success in and after residency. Former NCAA participation demonstrated the highest odds of receiving a top-5 rank.       Disparities in representation amongst academic physicians continue to persist at multiple levels, including the resident selection process and faculty career advancement. This study aimed to evaluate the racial and ethnic representation amongst plastic surgeons who are selected to speak at national and regional plastic surgery conferences.
    Methods: The researchers evaluated selected speakers at 12 plastic surgery annual meetings over 7 years (2014-2020). Racial and ethnic distribution in selected speakers at conferences were compared with those of medical school graduates, plastic surgery residents, and practicing plastic surgeons.
    Results: There were a total of 79 meetings, with 8931 total speaking opportunities and 1276 unique speakers. The percentage of individuals underrepresented in medicine (UIM) is 15.2% in matriculating medical students, 8.9% in active PRS residents, 8.3% in practicing PRS physicians, and 4.7% in invited conference speakers. Within racial/ethnic groups of invited speakers, there was no significant difference in either the average number of fellowships completed or average number of plastic surgery publications (P = 0.44 and 0.39, respectively). No individual UIM speaker had more than 20 speaking opportunities over these 7 years, compared with 17.0% in non-UIM speakers.
    Conclusion: Given the results of the study, the researchers conclude that racial minorities are disproportionately underrepresented as selected speakers at plastic surgery conferences, despite similarities in qualifications such as fellowship training, publication number, and years since board certification.

       BACKGROUND: We aimed to assess the adherence to five transparency practices (data availability, code availability, protocol registration and conflicts of interest (COI), and funding disclosures) from open access Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) related articles.
    METHODS: We searched and exported all open access COVID-19-related articles from PubMed-indexed journals in the Europe PubMed Central database published from January 2020 to June 9, 2022. With a validated and automated tool, we detected transparent practices of three paper types: research articles, randomized controlled trials (RCTs), and reviews. Basic journal- and article-related information were retrieved from the database. We used R for the descriptive analyses.
    RESULTS: The total number of articles was 258,678, of which we were able to retrieve full texts of 186,157 (72%) articles from the database Over half of the papers (55.7%, n = 103,732) were research articles, 10.9% (n = 20,229) were review articles, and less than one percent (n = 1,202) were RCTs. Approximately nine-tenths of articles (in all three paper types) had a statement to disclose COI. Funding disclosure (83.9%, confidence interval (CI): 81.7-85.8 95%) and protocol registration (53.5%, 95% CI: 50.7-56.3) were more frequent in RCTs than in reviews or research articles. Reviews shared data (2.5%, 95% CI: 2.3-2.8) and code (0.4%, 95% CI: 0.4-0.5) less frequently than RCTs or research articles. Articles published in 2022 had the highest adherence to all five transparency practices. Most of the reviews (62%) and research articles (58%) adhered to two transparency practices, whereas almost half of the RCTs (47%) adhered to three practices. There were journal- and publisher-related differences in all five practices, and articles that did not adhere to transparency practices were more likely published in lowest impact journals and were less likely cited.
    CONCLUSION: While most articles were freely available and had a COI disclosure, adherence to other transparent practices was far from acceptable. A much stronger commitment to open science practices, particularly to protocol registration, data and code sharing, is needed from all stakeholders.

       BACKGROUND: Given the lack of a national, population-based birth defects surveillance program in the United States, the National Birth Defects Prevention Network (NBDPN) has facilitated important studies on surveillance, research, and prevention of major birth defects. We sought to summarize NBDPN peer-reviewed publications and their impact.
    METHODS: We obtained and reviewed a curated list of 49 NBDPN multistate collaborative publications during 2000-2022, as of December 31, 2022. Each publication was reviewed and classified by type (e.g., risk factor association analysis). Key characteristics of study populations and analytic approaches used, along with publication impact (e.g., number of citations), were tabulated.
    RESULTS: NBDPN publications focused on prevalence estimates (N = 17), surveillance methods (N = 11), risk factor associations (N = 10), mortality and other outcomes among affected individuals (N = 6), and descriptive epidemiology of various birth defects (N = 5). The most cited publications were those that reported on prevalence estimates for a spectrum of defects and those that assessed changes in neural tube defects (NTD) prevalence following mandatory folic acid fortification in the United States.
    CONCLUSIONS: Results from multistate NBDPN publications have provided critical information not available through other sources, including US prevalence estimates of major birth defects, folic acid fortification and NTD prevention, and improved understanding of defect trends and surveillance efforts. Until a national birth defects surveillance program is established in the United States, NBDPN collaborative publications remain an important resource for investigating birth defects and informing decisions related to health services planning of secondary disabilities prevention and care.

      Sustainability issues such as food insecurity, climate change, land degradation, economic development and food waste are the actual most important challenges at the global level. Among them, the food waste (FW) challenge has a great magnitude, emphasizing the importance of examining this issue. Specifically, there is a need to focus on the household level. Thus, this study aims to investigate and identify the main factors influencing FW household behaviors on which policymakers and stakeholders could outline specific and sustainable strategies. Starting from a large number of published studies on this subject with a similar aim but focusing on specific Countries or contexts, the goal of our study is achieved through the implementation of a systematic literature review followed by a bibliometric review using the VOSviewer software. The selected query generated a total of 235 matching papers from which only 111 papers were collected for the bibliometric review because of the inclusion criteria. The analysis showed the existence of four major research strands: the largest one analyses the antecedents of behavior during food management, including the implementation of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). Other detected topics are the economic impact of FW, the effects generated by the Covid-19 pandemic on consumer behaviors, and finally, the environmental and social effects of FW. The objective of this study is to investigate and identify the main factors influencing FW household behaviors. The obtained output represents useful information for policymakers and stakeholders to outline specific and sustainable strategies to reduce FW.

      This study proposes an approach to the external evaluation of medical education programs' quality based on a combination of indicators, including international rankings, external stakeholders' input, and independent agencies' assessments. We modify the success equation with a detailed consideration of the skill component and its decomposition into internal and external quality assurance elements along with authority. We carried out a bibliometric analysis regarding the problem of medical education quality assessment in the context of achieving sustainable development goals. We described the calculation model of external quality assessment indicators through the algorithms of independent education quality assurance agencies' activity and rating indicators shown in the modified Mauboussin's equation. The model considers the economic component (the consequence of achievement) of skill, which is expressed in raising funds from external sources to implement educational and scientific activities. The proposed algorithm for assessing the educational program quality can be applied to benchmark educational program components, complete educational programs within the subject area, and the educational institution for different areas. We propose a "financial" model for educational program quality based on the analysis results. The model makes it possible to determine the need for additional focused funding of the educational program based on the individual analysis of the external evaluation criteria of the achievement level. This study analyzes the accreditation results of more than 110 educational programs in 2020 and 8 months of 2021 within the direction 22 "Medicine" (according to the national classification of fields of knowledge) (state and private Ukrainian medical universities).

      In recent years, job burnout of English as a foreign language (EFL) teachers in China has become prominent in the field of education and psychology, with the related research articles generally on the rise. Using the database of Web of Science (WOS) and the sub-database of Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI) in China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database, this paper comprehensively reviews the current situation of research on job burnout of EFL teachers in China between 2020 and 2023, from the aspects of research methods, research focuses and research findings. The literature research results show that on the whole, the research on job burnout of EFL teachers in China is still in its infancy, and that the research level is still relatively low. Based on the systematic reviews of the collected studies, we can conclude that although there is no unanimous conclusion between demographic variables and job burnout severity of EFL teachers in China, we can intervene at both the teacher and school levels to alleviate job burnout of EFL teachers. This review paper analyzes some main problems existing in the current research, for example, lack of theoretical construction and guidance, too much concentration on some research topics, lack of diversified and interdisciplinary research methods, lack of longitudinal research, and potential directions for future research are also discussed in the paper.

       Introduction: Whilst a theoretical basis for implementation research is seen as advantageous, there is little clarity over if and how the application of theories, models or frameworks (TMF) impact implementation outcomes. Clinical artificial intelligence (AI) continues to receive multi-stakeholder interest and investment, yet a significant implementation gap remains. This bibliometric study aims to measure and characterize TMF application in qualitative clinical AI research to identify opportunities to improve research practice and its impact on clinical AI implementation.
    Methods: Qualitative research of stakeholder perspectives on clinical AI published between January 2014 and October 2022 was systematically identified. Eligible studies were characterized by their publication type, clinical and geographical context, type of clinical AI studied, data collection method, participants and application of any TMF. Each TMF applied by eligible studies, its justification and mode of application was characterized.
    Results: Of 202 eligible studies, 70 (34.7%) applied a TMF. There was an 8-fold increase in the number of publications between 2014 and 2022 but no significant increase in the proportion applying TMFs. Of the 50 TMFs applied, 40 (80%) were only applied once, with the Technology Acceptance Model applied most frequently (n = 9). Seven TMFs were novel contributions embedded within an eligible study. A minority of studies justified TMF application (n = 51,58.6%) and it was uncommon to discuss an alternative TMF or the limitations of the one selected (n = 11,12.6%). The most common way in which a TMF was applied in eligible studies was data analysis (n = 44,50.6%). Implementation guidelines or tools were explicitly referenced by 2 reports (1.0%).
    Conclusion: TMFs have not been commonly applied in qualitative research of clinical AI. When TMFs have been applied there has been (i) little consensus on TMF selection (ii) limited description of selection rationale and (iii) lack of clarity over how TMFs inform research. We consider this to represent an opportunity to improve implementation science's translation to clinical AI research and clinical AI into practice by promoting the rigor and frequency of TMF application. We recommend that the finite resources of the implementation science community are diverted toward increasing accessibility and engagement with theory informed practices. The considered application of theories, models and frameworks (TMF) are thought to contribute to the impact of implementation science on the translation of innovations into real-world care. The frequency and nature of TMF use are yet to be described within digital health innovations, including the prominent field of clinical AI. A well-known implementation gap, coined as the "AI chasm" continues to limit the impact of clinical AI on real-world care. From this bibliometric study of the frequency and quality of TMF use within qualitative clinical AI research, we found that TMFs are usually not applied, their selection is highly varied between studies and there is not often a convincing rationale for their selection. Promoting the rigor and frequency of TMF use appears to present an opportunity to improve the translation of clinical AI into practice.

      Previous studies have shown that National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding contributed >$187 billion for basic or applied research related to the 356 drugs approved 2010-2019. This analysis asks how much of this funding led to patents cited as providing market exclusivity, patents that would be subject to the provisions of the Bayh-Dole Act that promote and protect the public interest. The method involves identifying published research in PubMed related to the approved drugs (applied research) or their targets (basic research). NIH-funded projects (grants) funding these publications and patents arising from these projects were both identified in RePORT. Patents cited as providing market exclusivity were identified in DrugPatentWatch (which incorporates FDA Orange Book). NIH funded basic or applied research related to all 313 FDA-approved drugs 2010-2019 with at least one patent in DrugPatentWatch. This research comprised 350 thousand publications (9% applied research; 91% basic research) supported by 341 thousand fiscal years (project years) of NIH funding and $164 billion in NIH project year costs (17% applied research; 83% basic research). These NIH projects also produced 22,360 patents, 119 of which were cited in DrugPatentWatch as protecting 34/313 drugs. These patents were associated with 769 project years of NIH funding (0.23% total) and project year costs of $0.95 billion (0.59% total). Overall, only 1.5% of total NIH funding for applied research and 0.38% of total NIH funding for basic research was associated with patents in DrugPatentWatch. This analysis shows that very little of the NIH funding for research that contributes to new drug approvals leads to patents that provide market exclusivity and are subject to the provisions of the Bayh-Dole Act that promote the public interest in practical applications of the research, reasonable use and pricing, and a return on this public sector investment. This suggests that the Bayh-Dole Act is limited in its ability to protect the public interest in the pharmaceutical innovations driven by NIH-funded research.

      Background The cornerstone of surgical education and practice is the surgical journal, but the ability to disperse the vital information within their pages had previously been limited. The use of Twitter by surgical journals has increased in recent years and has allowed these journals to reach a wider audience than they previously could. In this article, we discuss the role Twitter engagement has on a journal's impact factor, visibility, and prestige. Methods The authors compiled a list of journals using the SciMago Journal and Country rank platform. Included journals' Twitter profiles were then assessed using Twitonomy, an online platform that collects and processes data regarding individual Twitter profiles. Statistical analysis was conducted to determine the relationship between Twitter use and SCImago Journal Rank (SJR). Results Simple linear regression and multiple linear regression models determined that the only variables that had a statistically significant impact on all journals were the age of the Twitter account (p=0.003) and the percentage of retweets (p=0.001). When it comes to specialty-specific journals, further analysis showed that the only significant factor regarding its impact on SJR was the percentage of retweets (p=0.007). Conclusions Surgical journals' regular use of Twitter is important in the dissemination of important information to a wide audience. This article shows that the most important variable to determine the impact and visibility of a surgical journal is the percentage of retweets. Further research should be performed to better understand how to use Twitter and other social media platforms to reach a larger audience.
