       OBJECTIVE: Connectomics is an emerging and novel research area in neuroscience. We performed a bibliometric analysis to characterize the most impactful articles regarding connectomics, in hopes of evaluating the current state of the field and guiding future research.
    METHODS: The Web of Science ™ database was queried to identify the 50 most cited articles regarding brain connectomics. Publication meta-data, including country of origin, journal of publication, citation count, and year of publication were extracted and analyzed. Studies were qualitatively analyzed to characterize the goals and area of research.
    RESULTS: The top 50 cited articles were published between 2005 and 2018, with a majority revolving around MRI acquisition and down-stream processing (n = 24, 48%). Articles were published in journals with an average impact factor of 16.5 and averaged a citation count of 1019 (+ 627.2). Most articles originated from the United States (n = 27, 54%) displayed level II (n = 18, 36%) or level V (n = 20, 40%) evidence.
    CONCLUSION: The Human Connectome Project in 2009 spurred widespread research on functional brain connectivity, and the effort to understand the functional networks and connections of the nervous system remains an area of exciting potential. Despite much work done to understand image acquisition and analysis, a renewed appreciation for the wide clinical application of connectomics is warranted. Our analysis helps contextualize the most relevant scientific work on brain connectomics, providing insights for the future for connectomics research.

       Objective: To determine the coalitions and impact of authors, countries, institutions, and journals, evaluate the knowledge base, find the hotspot trends, and identify the emerging topics in lumbar disc herniation (LDH).
    Method: The articles related to LDH were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection on August 21, 2021. Two scientometric software (CiteSpace 5.8.R.1 and VOSviewer 1.6.17) were used to perform bibliometric and knowledge-map analysis.
    Results: From the set parameters, 4642 articles were included in the literature. Although the total number of publications fluctuated between 2001 and 2020, a general trend toward increase was observed. Respectively, the most productive country and institution in the field were the United States and Wooridul Spine Hospital. The most active and cited authors were Lee and Weinstein. Spine was the most impactful and cited journal. Weinstein (JAMA 296:2441-2450, 2006) had the highest number of co-citations and Weinstein(N Engl J Med 358:794-810, 2008) had the highest number of citations. The keyword "low back pain" was ranked first for frequency and total link strength, whereas "risk factor" was ranked first for centrality. Topics including pathogenesis (disc herniation), examination methods (MRI), treatment methods (non-surgical treatment, surgical treatment), surgical options (laminectomy, discectomy), clinical observations (double-blind, efficacy, outcome, learning curve), and evaluation of efficacy (meta-analysis) of LDH have been the focus of leading-edge research in 2001-2020.
    Conclusion: Using bibliometric methods, this study mapped the knowledge map of LDH research in the past 20 years. The study identifies existing trends to provide a framework for further research.

       Study design: A bibliometric analysis.
    Objective: To identify and analyze the top 100 cited articles in anterior cervical discectomy and fusion.
    Summary of Background Data: Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) is one of the most routine surgical procedures in spine surgery. Many surgeons and academics have researched ACDF thoroughly and published numerous articles. However, there is no relevant bibliometric analysis. Therefore, our study aims to identify and analyze the top 100 cited articles in ACDF to identify the research trends.
    Methods: We searched the Web of Science (WOS) Core Collection database with restrictions and identified the top 100 cited publications in ACDF for analysis.
    Results: The citation counts of the top 100 cited publications ranged from 37 to 361 (mean 67.42). All studies were published between 2008 and 2019, with 2013 and 2015 the most prolific years. The journals Spine and Journal of Neurosurgery-Spine provided the majority of the articles. Overall, the 100 articles came from 12 countries, with the United States being the top producer, followed by China and South Korea. The most frequent keywords were "spine", "anterior cervical discectomy and fusion", "interbody fusion", 'arthrodesis', "follow-up", "decompression", and "ACDF".
    Conclusion: ACDF has been regarded as a classical gold standard in anterior cervical surgery, and the emergence of new surgical procedures has not affected its status. Cervical disc arthroplasty still needs further research and development. As the first bibliometric analysis of ACDF, this bibliometric study is meant to provide guidance for clinicians and scholars to research the development trend of this field.

       Purpose: In the past decade, the field of pre-psoas oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF) has developed rapidly, and with it, the literature on OLIF has grown considerably. This study was designed to analyze the top 50 articles in terms of the number of citations through bibliometric research to demonstrate the research characteristics and hotspots of OLIF.
    Method: Searching the Web of Science database yielded the 50 most cited publications in the OLIF field as of July 10, 2022. The publications were ranked according to the number of citations. The following sources were evaluated: the year of publications, the number of citations, authors, countries, institutions, journals, research topics, and keyword hotspots.
    Results: The most productive period was from 2017 to 2020, with 41 articles. The number of citations varied from 10 to 140, with an average of 35.52, and 1,776 citations were found. World Neurosurgery published the most articles (12), China produced the most articles (16), and the Catholic University of Korea produced the most studies (6). The corresponding author who produced the most articles was J.S. Kim (5), and the first author who produced the most publications was S. Orita (3). The main research topics were anatomical morphology, surgical techniques, indications, outcomes, and complications. The top 10 most cited keywords were "complications," "decompression," "spine," "surgery," "outcomes," "transpsoas approach," "spondylolisthesis," "anterior," "disease," and "injury."
    Conclusions: Certain articles can be distinguished from others using citation analysis as an accurate representation of their impact due to their long-term effectiveness and peer recognition. With these publications, researchers are provided with research priorities and hotspots through influential literature in the field of OLIF.

       Purpose: To identify and analyze the 50 most-cited articles in patellar tendon injury research.
    Methods: The ISI Web of Science and SCOPUS databases were used to conduct a search for articles pertaining to patellar tendon injury. For the top 50 most-cited articles, bibliometric data (title, first and senior author, citation count, journal, publication year, citation density, country of origin, Level of Evidence [LOE]) and topic of article were recorded.
    Results: The mean number of citations was 172.0 ± 88.2 (range 101-546). There was a statistically significant correlation between publication year and citation density (r = 0.61, P < .01). The earliest article was the third most-cited article (362 citations), published by Blazina et al. in 1973, which discussed the epidemiology of patellar tendinopathy. The first and second most-cited articles (546 and 466 citations, respectively) covered surgical outcomes of patellar tendinopathy and prevalence of patellar tendinopathy among elite athletes. A total of 14 articles (28%) discussed nonoperative management, whereas only 5 articles discussed surgical management (10%). The most frequent LOE category was a LOE of IV (n = 18, 36%), but 19 studies (38%) were LOE I or LOE II.
    Conclusions: Among the top 50 most-cited studies regarding patellar tendon injury, a relatively high number were of a high LOE (19 Level I or II, 38%), affirming that these articles in patellar tendon injury research are not only influential, but also of high-quality evidence.
    Clinical Relevance: This bibliometric analysis provides an efficient tool for educators, researchers, and evidence-based practitioners to identify and evaluate the most influential articles in patellar tendon injury research.

       Purpose: In this study, we aimed to systematically determine the trend, research hotspots, and directions of the future development of acupuncture for neuropathic pain (NP) by bibliometric analysis.
    Methods: Based on the relevant literature on acupuncture for NP in the databases of Web of Science from January 2002 to December 2021, Citespace software and VOSviewer were used to determine the use of acupuncture for the treatment of NP. The annual publications, countries, authors, research institutions, keywords, co-cited references, and journals were analyzed to explore the research hotspot and development trends in this field.
    Results: A total of 1462 records of acupuncture for NP from 2002 to 2021 were obtained. Chingliang Hsieh (20) is the most effective author and Han JS (585 co-citations) is the most influential author. The most productive institutions and countries are Kyung Hee UNIV (88) and China, respectively (480). UNIV Maryland of the USA has the highest centrality (0.12). Evidence-based complementary and alternative medicine (89) is the most prolific journal, and Pain is the most influential journal (4200 co-citations). Ji-sheng Han (2003) is the most frequently cited article (158 co-citations). Electroacupuncture, bee-venom acupuncture, and percutaneous electrical stimulation are the most commonly studied acupuncture types. The analgesic mechanism of acupuncture and acupuncture-neuroimaging was a research hotspot over the years. The clinical evidence of acupuncture for NP should be further studied in the future.
    Conclusion: The study using bibliometric analysis methods to investigate the publications on acupuncture for NP so as to provide potential research directions in the future.

       BACKGROUND: Shoulder arthroplasty is a notable area with research interest in orthopedics owing to the increasing global demand and technical development. Over the past decades, many articles on shoulder arthroplasty have been published. However, little is known about the characteristics and evaluation of these articles. The objective of this study is to identify and analyze the top 100 cited literatures in shoulder arthroplasty research field.
    METHODS: Publications on shoulder arthroplasty from inception to 2022 were retrieved from Web of Science. Top 100 publications were defined by the number of citations. Characteristics of the top 100 cited literatures were recorded and analyzed. Visualized study was performed using VOSviewer software.
    RESULTS: The top 100 cited articles were published between 1981 and 2018. The 2000s was the most productive decade. Citation number per article ranged from 822 to 103. Leading countries were the United States followed by France and Switzerland. Surgical technique was the most highlighted theme. The most common evidence level was level III. Co-occurrence analysis clustered the keywords into five clusters: infection, fracture, osteoarthritis, perioperative complications, and prosthesis design.
    CONCLUSIONS: Characteristics of influential articles on shoulder arthroplasty were thoroughly analyzed. Most studies focused on surgical techniques and perioperative complications with the marked deficiency of high evidence level.

      Pharmaceutical care is essential in building up the basics of public health and clinical care. A comprehensive understanding of global status in the field of pharmaceutical care is necessary for directing its research frontiers and future trends. Therefore, this study aims to make a bibliometric analysis to track the development of pharmaceutical care research worldwide during the past two decades. The publications regarding pharmaceutical care were culled from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). Countries, institutions, authors, journals, references, and keywords in this field were visually analyzed by using VOSviewer (version 1.6.17) and CiteSpace (Version 5.8.R3). As a result, 3,597 publications (3,177 articles and 420 reviews) were obtained. The annual yields grew more than three times in the past two decades, from 54 records in 2002 to 379 papers in 2021. The United States played the leading role in this research from multiple aspects, including publication (n = 1,208), citations (n = 28,759), funding agencies, and collaboration worldwide. The University of Sydney in Australia was the most contributed institution with the greatest number of publications (n = 112) in pharmaceutical care research. Hersberger KE from the University of Basel was the most productive author (n = 40). Chen TF from the University of Sydney was the author who owed the highest H-index of 19 and most citations (n = 1,501). They both significantly impacted this field. American Journal of Health System Pharmacy produced the most publications, while Pharmacotherapy had the highest IF (IF2020 = 4.705) in this field. Clusters networks of co-cited references and keywords suggested that clinical pharmacy is an essential theme in pharmaceutical care. Terms of medication safety and critical care recognized by burst analysis of keywords also hint at the recent attention on clinical pharmacy. The present bibliometrics analysis may provide a comprehensive overview and valuable reference for future researchers and practitioners in the research field of pharmaceutical care.

      Objective: This study aimed to use bibliometric analysis to qualitatively and quantitatively evaluate the research of exosomes in the field of regenerative medicine and to provide research hotspots and trends in this field. Materials & methods: Bibliometric analysis and data presentation were performed by VOSviewer and Microsoft Excel. Results: China was the major contributor to research in this field and enjoys a high reputation in academia. The highest contributing institution is Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Research hotspots included exosome-mediated neurovascular regeneration, exosome mechanism research, exosome-mediated cartilage regeneration and repair and exosome-mediated cardiac regeneration. Research was trending in the treatment of osteoarthritis, knee disease and cartilage regeneration and repair. Conclusion: This study provides a panoramic view of the application of exosomes in regenerative medicine.

       Background: Although publications have been increasing rapidly, the research quality has yet to improve in the field of critical care medicine (CCM) in China. This study aimed at investigating the current status of and the influential factors for impactful publications in CCM research by Chinese authors.
    Methods: Publications by authors with the affiliation of critical care medicine department or intensive care unit (CCM/ICU) in Chinese as well as American hospitals from 2001 to 2020 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database for this bibliometric analysis. Moreover, statistical analyses to test factors affecting impactful publications by Chinese authors were performed.
    Results: Of 13,487 articles retrieved by this search strategy, 6,622 were published by Chinese authors as first or corresponding authors. The annual publications by Chinese authors have been rapidly increasing from 2001 to 2020, and so did the citations to these articles. However, the proportion in the world of publications by Chinese authors was much less than that by American authors each year [M (IQR): 1.85 (9.592) vs. 27.77 (7.3), p < 0.001]. In addition, impactful articles were significantly less published by Chinese than by American authors, including articles either in journals with a high impact factor (p < 0.001) or in the top 10 journals in the field of CCM (5.4 vs 13.4%, p < 0.001), and articles with high citation frequency as well (p < 0.001). Moreover, the percentage of impactful publications by Chinese authors was likely associated with academic background and regions of the author's affiliations, funds support, public health events of COVID-19, and collaboration between authors.
    Conclusion: Our results demonstrated that CCM research in China grew rapidly in the recent 20 years. However, the impactful publications remained limited, largely owing to the shortage of comprehensive research training, inactive collaboration, and underfunded CCM research.

      Background: Ferroptosis is a newly proposed concept of programmed cell death and has been widely studied in many diseases during the past decade. However, a bibliometric study that concentrates on publication outputs and research trends of ferroptosis related to the brain is lacking. Methods: We retrieved publication data in the field of ferroptosis in the brain from the Web of Science Core Collection on 31 December 2021. A bibliometric analysis was performed using VOSviewer and CiteSpace software. Results: Six hundred fifty-six documents focusing on ferroptosis in the brain were published from 2012 to 2021. The number of publications in this field has shown a steady increase in recent years. Most publications were from China (338) and the United States (166), while the most productive organizations were at the University of Melbourne (34) and University of Pittsburgh (23). Ashley I. Bush was the most productive author, while Scott J Dixon was the most co-cited author. The journal Free Radical Biology and Medicine published the most articles in this field, while Cell was the most cited journal. Among 656 publications, top 10 cited documents were cited at least 300 times. Among the top 20 references with the strongest citation bursts, half of the papers had a burst until 2021. The keywords analysis suggests that the top 20 keywords appeared at least 40 times. Additionally, "amyloid precursor protein" was the keyword with strongest bursts. Conclusion: Research on ferroptosis in the brain will continue to be highly regarded. This study analyzed the research landscape of ferroptosis in the brain and offers a new reference for researchers in this field.

      Stem cell therapy is a promising treatment for knee osteoarthritis, but few bibliometric studies have been performed on the subject. Bibliometric analysis is helpful for identifying the most influential studies in a specific field and can evaluate the global research trends in stem cell therapy for knee osteoarthritis. The Web of Science Core Collection was searched for publications from 2001 to 2021. Publication performance was analyzed using several bibliometric parameters, including VOSviewer, to identify the research landscape of trends in topics, and CiteSpace was investigated to identify the keywords that have the strongest citation bursts. From 2001 to 2021, in total, 1,345 publications explored the research on stem cells in knee osteoarthritis. The United States contributed the largest number of publications and at the top list of international collaborations. Tokyo Medical and Dental University ranked first among institutions in the overall number of articles and citations. The journal of Osteoarthritis and Cartilage had the largest number of publications. Sekiya Ichiro was the most cited author, with 32 articles. The keywords with the most frequent occurrence were "osteoarthritis," "mesenchymal stem cells," and "cartilage," in descending order of frequency. "fibroblast growth factor" and "extracellular vesicle" were the first and last searched theme terms, respectively. The number of publications on stem cells for knee osteoarthritis stays growing. Cartilage repair and paracrine function are current research hotspots for the stem cell therapy mechanism. Stem cell therapy has gradually advanced from basic research to the clinical application stage.

      Background A study related to an overview of the editorial workflow, editorial decision-making and timelines of the Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology (IJDVL) had been published earlier. However, a study on publication pattern, citations, contributing organizations, most cited publications etc. of IJDVL has not been performed till now. Objectives This study aims to identify and analyse the impact of IJDVL on various scientometric indicators viz. year-wise publication growth, impact factor trend, most contributing organizations, global outreach, most cited papers, and cited and citing journals, over the years 2007 to 2019. Methods Data for this study were retrieved from the Web of Science-core collection database of Journal Citation Reports (Clarivate Analytics, 2021) on 12th May 2021. The search was performed by using the advanced search feature of the database. Using the "InCites", a search for journal citation reports of IJDVL was performed. Results The highest number of cumulative citations have been received by publications published in the year 2019 with 2,122 citations which is 91.53% in citable items. In the year 2009 journal, the impact factor was 0.976, which jumped to 2.712 (Journal Citation Reports™ 2018). IJDVL received its highest impact factor (3.030) in the year 2019. All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi is the most prolific organization contributing to IJDVL with 51 publications. Among foreign countries, China is leading with reference to most contributions by any foreign country with 51 publications in IJDVL. Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology having an impact factor 8.277 has been cited 145 times in this journal. Limitations Only one database was used for the study. Conclusion The high proportion of frequently cited articles in recent years, together with its currently high journal impact factor and quartile two-factor, give sustenance to the view that IJDVL publishes high-standard articles relevant to dermatology research and clinical practice.

      Over the past 2 years, the world has witnessed the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on humanity. Fortunately, stem cell therapy is widely used in clinical practice for the treatment of COVID-19 and has saved the lives of many critically ill patients. A bibliometric analysis of this field can analyze research hotspots and predict the research trends. This research analyzed documents from Web of Science between the years 2020-2022. The bibliometrics software bibliometrix, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace were used to complete the visual analysis of publications, authors, countries, documents, organizations, collaborative networks, and keywords clustering. 896 publications on COVID-19 stem cell therapy were included in the analysis, including 451 articles and 445 review articles. The field grew at the average growth rate of 103.17% between 2020 and 2021. The United States had the highest number of publications and citations. Many developing countries had also contributed significantly to the field. The journal with the most articles was Stem Cell Research and Therapy. The most cited journal was Stem Cell Reviews and Reports. The published documents were focused on five themes: "Cell Biology", "Medicine Research Experimental", "Cell Tissue Engineering", "Immunology", and "Pharmacology Pharmacy". The bibliometric analysis revealed that current clinical trials had validated stem cell therapy's remarkable potential in treating COVID-19 and its complications. It is foreseeable that future research in this area will continue to increase. With the help of bibliometric analysis, researchers can identify the current state of research and potential research hotspots.

       Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease that can lead to joint deformity and loss of function. Recent studies have shown great progress in the research of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in RA. However, thus far, there have been no bibliometric or visualization analyses in this field. This bibliometric analysis provides a comprehensive overview of the general information and research hotspots of MSCs and RA.
    Methods: Articles relevant to MSCs and RA, published between 2012 and 2021, were searched using the Web of Science Core Collection database. Irrelevant publications were excluded from the analysis. Bibliometric and visualization analyses were conducted using VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and Scimago Graphica.
    Results: A total of 577 articles were analyzed. The annual number of publications increased from 2012 to 2017 and plateaued from 2017 to 2021. China and the USA had the largest number of publications. Collaboration among different organizations mainly occurs between institutes of the same country. Stem Cell Research and Therapy and Frontiers in Immunology were the most popular journals in this field. All the top 20 co-cited authors had a positive co-citation relationship. The top references indicate that MSCs can contribute to RA research and treatment mainly via immunomodulation. From 2012 to 2021, "collagen-induced arthritis," "immunomodulation," and "therapy" were some of the keywords associated with MSCs and RA, while "extracellular vesicles" showed a strong keyword burst from 2019 to 2021.
    Conclusion: MSCs and RA have been widely studied in different countries and institutions and by different authors over the last ten years. China and the USA had the largest number of publications. Different types of journals provide admirable sources for researchers. Some keywords, including immunomodulation and extracellular vesicles, may be hot spots in the near future. There will be more basic research and clinical translation of MSCs and RA, and substantial new treatments for RA will soon be developed.

       Objectives: Acupuncture therapy has been used for cognitive impairment-related diseases, however, there are still few studies on the overall trend of acupuncture therapy on cognitive impairment based on bibliometric analysis. The purpose of this study was to explore the research trend of the impact of acupuncture on cognitive impairment in the past 15 years, analyze the research trends and hotspots, and provide new ideas and theoretical basis for future research directions.
    Methods: From the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC), the relevant literature on the treatment of cognitive impairment with acupuncture from 2007 to 2022 was retrieved. Then, based on the CiteSpace and VOSviewer software of the Java platform, the cooperation between countries and institutions in this field, the co-citation of journals and documents, and the cooperation between authors and authors, etc. were analyzed. In addition, the co-occurrence and burst analysis of keywords are also carried out, and a visual knowledge map is drawn.
    Results: As of August 08, 2022, a total of 394 records related to the treatment of cognitive impairment with acupuncture were identified. The analysis results show: The number and rate of annual publications have steadily increased, with some fluctuations from year to year. The countries that contribute the most to this field are China and the USA. Among them, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and Capital Medical University are tied for first place in terms of the number of published papers. Tao Jing is the most prolific author and the number one cited author.
    Conclusions: The number of publications on acupuncture for cognitive impairment is expected to increase rapidly in future research, suggesting a bright future for the field. Future research hotspots will focus on pain, injury, protocol, diagnosis, guidelines, etc. It is also necessary to strengthen cross-regional and cross-country cooperation among various academic groups.

       Background: In recent years, there has been an increasing number of publications on Meniere's disease. However, there are no bibliometric research on Meniere's disease. The purpose of this study was to find the focus and trends of Meniere's disease research through bibliometric approach.
    Methods: Publications related to Meniere's disease in the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) from 2002 to 2021 were collected. The bibliometric approach was used to estimate the searched data. Research foci of the studies were identified using VOSviewer and CiteSpace software.
    Results: A total of 1,987 articles meet the inclusion criteria and are included in the study. In the past 20 years, the number of Meniere's disease publications is gradually increasing, especially in the past 3 years. The country with the largest contribution to Meniere's disease research is the United States, followed by Europe and Japan. High-frequency keywords included Meniere's disease, endolymphaic hydrops, vertigo, meniere-disease, inner ear, dizziness, symptoms, hearing, diagnosis, and tentamicin. The analyses of keyword burst direction indicate that evoked myogenic potential, MRI, and committee are emerging research hotspots.
    Conclusion: This study provides an objective, systematic, and comprehensive analysis of Meniere's disease-related literature. In addition, we find a dramatic increase in studies in this field over the past 3 years. Evoked myogenic potentials and MRI may become the research hotspots of Meniere's disease in future. This study will help otolaryngologists, neurologists, and audiologists to clarify the research direction and potential hotspots of Meniere's disease and further help clinicians improve patients' prognosis.

      Use of alternative online means of distribution for research is a rapidly evolving area in orthopedics. In this study, we investigate the impact of Twitter on research citation rates and the association between Altmetric Attention Score (AAS) and citation rates across major orthopedic journals. Original research articles published in a selection of 10 journals between January 2018 and December 2018 were analyzed for number and source of tweets, AAS, and number of citations. We determined the relationship between Twitter use of different sources and number of citations across all journals and within each individual journal, any statistical differences in citations and AAS for tweeted vs nontweeted articles, and the correlation between journal impact factor and average number of monthly tweets. We included 2916 articles in our study, at an average of 26 months after publication. The mean AAS was 9.7 (SD, 45.1; range, 0-1125), and mean citation rate was 6.4 (SD, 8.5; range, 0-166). Impact factor was strongly correlated with average monthly tweets (r2=0.77). Tweeted articles received 8.51 citations on average, compared with 2.56 citations for nontweeted articles (P<.05). Tweets sent by the author/department had the highest impact on future citations (P<.01). Tweets by news outlets had a smaller, positive effect on citations (P<.01). Tweets sent by Arthroscopy (P<.01) and Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics (P<.01) had high impacts compared with other journals. [Orthopedics. 20XX;XX(X):xx-xx.].

       Objective: To explore the global research trends and hotspots of steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (SONFH) through qualitative and quantitative analysis of bibliometrics.
    Methods: All publications on SONFH published from 1992 to 2021 were extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection database. CiteSpace was used for the visualization analysis of major countries, active institutions, productive authors, and the burst of keywords. VOSviewer was used for coupling analysis of countries/regions, institutions, and authors. Microsoft Excel 2017 was used for statistical analysis, drawing bar charts, pie charts, and cumulative area charts. The software of MapInfo was used to draw the distribution map of the publications.
    Results: A total of 780 publications were included for analyses. The most productive year was 2020 with 98 records. China was the most influential country with 494 publications, an H-index of 59, and total citations of 16820. The most prolific institution was Shanghai Jiaotong University in China with 53 publications and 998 citations. Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research (IF = 4.755, 2021) was the most active journal with 26 articles. The hot keywords were "osteonecrosis", "avascular necrosis", "osteogenic differentiation", "proliferation", "PPAR gamma", "apoptosis", "oxidative stress", "genetic polymorphism" and "mesenchymal stem cells". The keywords like "proliferation", "PPAR gamma" and "genome-wide" have emerged in recent years.
    Conclusion: The number of publications in SONFH has increased significantly in the last three decades. The pathologic mechanism of SONFH gathered most research interests. Genomics and cell molecular biology of SONFH are the research frontiers.

      Objective: This study aims to explore the research hotspots and trends of multiple myeloma bone disease in the past 20 years by bibliometric visualization analysis. Methods: With the Web of Science Core Collection database as the data source, the relevant publications of multiple myeloma bone disease from 2002 to 2021 are retrieved. These data are analyzed using software CiteSpace 5.8.R3 and Scimago Graphica 1.0.24, together with the Online Analysis Platform of Literature Metrology. Results: A total of 6,168 published research papers, including 4668 articles and 1500 review papers, are included in this study. Generally speaking, annual publications and citations are on the rise, especially in recent 2 years. The majority of these papers are published in the United States, with Mayo Clinic being the greatest contributor. The most productive journal and author are Blood and Terpos E, respectively, while the most frequently co-cited reference, author and journal are Rajkumar et al., 2014, Lancet Oncol, Kyle RA and Blood, respectively. The major research subject categories are oncology and hematology. The "disease diagnosis", "prognosis evaluation", "pathogenesis", "imaging technology" and "targeted therapy" are recent research frontiers. The burst keywords "transplantation", "progression", "activation", "lenalidomide", "flow cytometry", "drug resistance", "management" and "mesenchymal stem cell" reflect the latest research hotspots. Conclusion: This study reveals the research hotspots and trends of multiple myeloma bone disease through bibliometric visualization analysis, and provides a valuable reference for further research.

       Background: Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most common cause of peripheral vestibular vertigo. Although BPPV is benign, its underlying mechanisms are complicated, and patients diagnosed with BPPV are significantly affected by it in their daily lives. Hence, this study's purpose was to investigate global trends and frontiers in the field of BPPV.
    Methods: We searched the research literature published from 2002 to 2021 on BPPV using two databases from the Web of Science Core Collection, and we conducted a bibliometric and visualization analysis. Bibliometric tools were used to perform co-authorship, co-citation, and co-occurrence analyses of countries or regions, institutions, authors, journals, keywords, and references.
    Results: In all, 1,419 publications from 4,594 authors, 1,542 institutions, and 65 countries or regions with 71 subject categories were included in the study. The number of articles increased gradually from 2002 to 2021. Seoul National University, the University of Munich, and Osaka University were among the leading institutions with the most publications, while United States of America, South Korea, and China were the leading countries. JS Kim was the most prolific author, Otology & Neurotology was the most prolific journal, and Otorhinolaryngology was the most published subject category. The five most frequently occurring keywords were BPPV, vertigo, dizziness, nystagmus, and management and the top research hot spots were osteoporosis and vitamin D.
    Conclusion: This study systematically analyzed trends in global scientific research on BPPV. The academic understanding of BPPV has improved significantly over the last two decades, with osteoporosis and vitamin D the two main research hot spots in the field of BPPV in recent years. These findings provide direction for current research to grasp the trends and research frontiers of current research.

       Background: Non-coding RNAs (ncRNA) are a kind of RNA that does not encode protein, which play an important role in Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, there is a lack of bibliometric analysis and visualization analysis of the research related to AD and ncRNAs.
    Materials and methods: Literature related to AD and ncRNAs in the last decade were searched through the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC). The relevant information from all the searched articles was collected. The bibliometric visualization website, CiteSpace, and VOSviewer were used for visualization analysis of countries/regions, institutions, authors, and keywords.
    Results: In total, 1,613 kinds of literature were published in the field. Literature in this field were published in 494 journals. The Journal of Alzheimer's Disease was the most popular journal. China, Louisiana State University System, and Lukiw WJ were the countries/regions, institutions, and authors with the highest scientific productivity, respectively. The research hotspots in this field focused on the role and mechanism of ncRNAs, especially microRNAs, in AD. The level of research was mainly based on basic research, focusing on animal and cellular levels, and related to proteomics. "Circular RNAs," "regulation of neuroinflammation," and "tau protein" were the future research directions.
    Conclusion: Taken together, the field of AD and ncRNAs is developing well. The research hotspots and frontiers in this field can provide a reference for researchers to choose their research direction.

       Background: Coronaviruses caused three pandemics and impact public health globally in the 21st century. However, limited data were for the evaluation of the trend of coronavirus researches. We aimed to analyze quantitatively, qualitatively, and visually evaluate global scientific publications on coronavirus by using bibliometric analysis.
    Methods: Coronavirus-related research from 1990-2019 was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database (WoS). Microsoft Excel and VOS viewer software were used to assess the characteristics of publications.
    Results: Overall, 9,553 publications on coronavirus were retrieved on 12 Mar 2020. The United States took a leading position in coronavirus-related research and accounted for more than one-thirds (36.7%) of all publications. The most productive journal in this field was Journal of Virology (1,056, 11.1%), and the most productive institution was University of Hong Kong (394, 4.1%). The main hot topics in coronavirus field were virus infection and protein. Active collaborations between countries were observed.
    Conclusion: Over the past three decades, coronavirus research has gradually increased due to two global outbreaks. Through this global bibliometric evaluation, some relevant evidence could be provided. Corresponding to the impact of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), a large number of articles can be expected to appear in the next few years, and international cooperation should be strengthened to solve the problem.

      This study seeks to explore the different knowledge structures in the sphere of educational research into COVID-19 during 2020. Using bibliometric methods, analysis was performed of a sample of 308 scientific articles retrieved from the Web of Science database. Using different data analysis techniques combining co-occurrence analysis, co-citation analysis and factorial analysis, All Keywords and Keywords Plus were used to achieve the main research objective: identification of the main themes and trends of production in the sphere of educational research into COVID-19. The main findings of this study in terms of the conceptual structure show that analysis of the centrality and density of the thematic trends points to a generalised structural change in the entire educational system towards methodological teaching-learning procedures oriented towards distance education. As for the intellectual structure, among the host of authors and sources of information involved only a select few have a greater influence on the scientific community. Finally, in terms of social structure, there is limited collaboration between authors and institutions from different countries. However, this collaboration is more intense within countries themselves and in terms of their own production, with the USA being the country with the strongest links.

       Background: Exercise is believed to play an important role in maintaining functionality in patients with HIV and it is thought that researchers are increasingly interested in this field. We aimed to shed light on the historical development of research on HIV and exercise by utilizing visual mapping method.
    Methods: Overall, 1051 articles retrieved from Web of Science (WoS) core database were analyzed according to the publication year and language, number of issues, citation, country collaborations, co-citation networks and concept-topic trends by using CiteSpace software.
    Results: The United States played a key role in country collaborations, and had the highest citation burst. The most cited studies were meta-analysis studies. The studies gathered mainly around the clusters named "physical activity" and "metabolic abnormalities" meanwhile, the recent topics of research were heart failure, metabolism, comorbidity, Ethiopia, muscle, cardiovascular event and drug user.
    Conclusion: The reason why USA was found to be one of the key actors in the network is supposed to be the financial resources it can allocate for the studies conducted. It appears that the majority of the studies in the field dwell upon the impact of exercise on the physical parameters in HIV patients, whereas there are only a limited number of studies focusing on the impact of exercise on HIV-induced psychological and cognitive problems. Recent studies on neurocognitive impairment, on the other hand, are predictive of possible future popularity of such topics among researchers.

       BACKGROUND AND AIMS: This bibliometric analysis aims to analyze the high-cited papers (HCPs), those which have received >100 citations) on Sarcopenia to provide insight into publication performances and research characteristics of the literature.
    METHODS: Global HCPs on Sarcopenia research were identified from the Scopus database from January 1993 to August 2022. VOSviewer, and Biblioshiny software were used to visualize the collaborative interaction among most productive countries, organizations, authors, and keywords. Select bibliometric measures were applied to evaluate the publication productivity and their influence in this area.
    RESULTS: Out of 6219 publications on Sarcopenia only 398 were HCPs. These HCPs received an average of 271.7 citations per publication (CPP). The most productive organizations were the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Italy, and Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Center on Aging, USA. The most impactful organizations in terms of CPP and relative citation index were CHU de Toulouse, France, and Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Italy. The most productive authors were Landi F and Morley JE, and Anker SD from Italy and Germany respectively. The most impactful authors were: Cederholm T (Sweden), Cruz JAJ (Spain) and Rolland Y (France). There were few/no HCPs from South America, Africa, South Asia, and USSR.
    CONCLUSION: Sarcopenia research has been predominantly done in USA, Europe, and China, and rarely from low and middle-income countries. Further focus of research should be on its etiopathogenesis (especially at the molecular level), prevalence in different communities, methods to diagnose it in early stages, and its cost-effective management.

       BACKGROUND: As we all know, this Nobel Prize is awarded to uncover the mechanism of "a glass of cold milk providing instant relief when eating a spicy hot pot"; the key factor, Piezo, has therefore become a clinical research hotspot. Most importantly, the factor of Piezo has been increasingly considered when analyzing the majority of common clinical diseases. The Piezo has entered a new stage and has made a series of progress. This study mainly outlines the knowledge map and detects the potential research hotspots by using bibliometric analysis.
    METHODS: The core collection database of WoS was used to retrieve the bibliographic records related to Piezos from January 1, 2010 to October 8, 2021. CiteSpace was utilized to generate and analyze visual representations of the complex data input.
    RESULTS: Overall, the number of Piezos publications has shown a significant upward trend since 2010. There were 902 research publications referenced a total of 19,095 times. The United States and China are the two nations with the highest number of published articles in this discipline. The institutions with the most publications are Scripps Research Institute and the University at Buffalo (SUNY-Buffalo). The primary topics of investigation are "endothelial cell" "xerocytosis" "current" "calcium", "mutation" "activated ion channel" "Ca2+ influx" "protein" "smooth muscle" and "nociception". Ardem Patapoutian and Frederick Sachs are the two most prolific authors of scholarly articles. The gene expression is the current focus of research in this topic.
    CONCLUSIONS: Piezo is rapidly developing. This knowledge will be utilized extensively in the process of developing treatments for many diseases. Current research focuses mostly on gene expression.

       Background: The prevalence of metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) presented a booming growth over recent years in the whole world. MAFLD was associated with a higher risk of end-stage liver disease, hepatocellular carcinoma and liver transplantation. Accumulating evidence indicated that gut microbiota and MAFLD were interrelated and interacted with each other. However, to the knowledge of the authors, no bibliometric quantitative analysis has been carried out to evaluate the links between the gut microbiota and MAFLD. This study aimed to use bibliometric analysis to evaluate current publication trends and hotspots in the links between the gut microbiota and MAFLD, in order to advance research in this field.
    Methods: The articles regarding the links between gut microbiota and MAFLD from 2002 to 2021 were identified from the Science Citation Index-Expanded of Web of Science Core Collection. CiteSpace software, Vosviewer, the R package "bibliometrix" and the Online Analysis Platform of Literature Metrology were used to analyze current publication trends and hotspots in this field.
    Results: A total of 707 articles were retrieved regarding the links between gut microbiota and MAFLD from 2002 to 2021. The USA occupied the leading role until 2015 and the dominance of China started in 2016. The USA was the most frequently involved country in international cooperation. Shanghai Jiao Tong University was the most productive institution. Ina Bergheim was the most productive author, publishing 14 articles. The co-citation keywords cluster label displayed ten main clusters: probiotics, bile acid, immune function, adolescents, nutritional genomics, high fat diet, systems biology, lipopolysaccharides, phosphatidylcholine, and oxidative stress. Keyword bursts analysis indicated that diet induced obesity, metabolic syndrome, ppar alpha, and lactobacillus were the research hotspots with high strength.
    Conclusion: The number of publications covering the links of gut microbiota and MAFLD increased dramatically in the past decade and especially became exponential growth in the last 3 years. Probiotics and bile acid will be the research direction of great importance in the etiology and novel treatment for MAFLD. This study provided systematic information and instructive assistance for future research work, that helped to discover the mechanisms and new treatments of MAFLD.

      Background: Calcium silicate biomaterials (CSB) have witnessed rapid development in the past 30 years. This study aimed to accomplish a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the published research literature on CSB for biomedical applications and explore the research hotspot and current status. Methods: Articles related to CSB published in the last three decades (1990-2020) were retrieved from Web of Science Core Collection. The R bibliometrix package and VOSviewer were used to construct publication outputs and collaborative networking among authors, their institutes, countries, journals' matrices and keywords plus. Results: A total of 872 publications fulfilling the search criteria were included. CSB is mainly reported for bone tissues and dental applications. Among researchers, Chang J from Chinese Academy of Sciences and Gandolfi MG from the University of Bologna are the most productive author in these two fields, respectively. China was the leading contributor to the research on CSB in the medical field. A total of 130 keywords appeared more ten or more times were identified. The term "mineral trioxide aggregate" ranked first with 268 occurrences. The co-occurrence analysis identified three major clusters: CSB in dentistry, bone tissue and vitro bioactivity. Conclusion: Calcium silicate biomaterials have a promising scope for various biomedical applications ranging from regeneration of hard tissues (bone and teeth) to skin, tumor, cardiac muscle and other soft tissues. This study may help researchers further understand the frontiers of the field.

       Purpose: To identify and characterize the most cited publications in orthopaedic research related to posterolateral corner (PLC) injuries of the knee.
    Methods: The Science Citation Index Expanded was queried for PLC injury articles. The 50 most-cited studies from 1976 to 2021 were selected. Article characteristics, including number of citations, citation density, year of publication, source journal, country of origin, article type, article subtype, and level of evidence, were analyzed.
    Results: The number of citations for individual articles ranged from 47 to 205. The 50 most cited articles were published in 16 journals. Eleven of the 50 articles (22%) were published in Arthroscopy-The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery. The largest proportion of the articles (n = 22, 44%) were classified as clinical, with the rest classified as reviews (n = 15, 30%), and basic science research (n = 13, 26%). The most common level of evidence for clinical articles was IV (14/22, 63.6%). Nine countries contributed to the top 50 articles, with the majority published in the United States (n = 35, 70%).
    Conclusions: In the last 20 years, papers published on the diagnosis and surgical management of PLC injuries have a high citation frequency. Future high-quality research is needed to establish best-practice guidelines for the management of PLC injuries due to the low overall level of evidence of existing clinical studies.
    Clinical Relevance: This research provides a comprehensive list for practitioners and may help educators identify articles to include in the curriculum for residents and fellows.

      Stroke is one of the most disabling conditions affecting the middle-aged population all around the world. This study aims to explore the rehabilitation of stroke patients using bibliometric analysis, which includes statistical analysis of recent articles, books, and other kinds of publications, to assess scientific output and determine the significance of scientific investigations in terms of both quality and quantity. In this study, an analysis of global trends in research in bilateral lower limb training for training balance and walking for patients in the subacute stage post-stroke between 1988 and 2021 was done. All the articles were obtained from PubMed databases. CiteSpace software was used to analyze the relationship between publications and country, journals, institutions, authors, references, and the keywords used. A total of 160 publications were included in the analysis. There was a tremendous increase in the research of physiotherapy intervention in patients who had residual disability post-stroke with a publication rate of 7.1 articles per year of publications. The use of the sophisticated PubMed database to extract articles allowed for a thorough and powerful bibliometric analysis of stroke rehabilitation research published between 1988 and 2020. In general, the number of studies on bilateral training has increased in recent decades. This historical overview of rehabilitation for post-stroke survivors will serve as a valuable starting point for future study into possible collaborators, focus issues, and trends. This bibliometric analysis highlights the potential value of exercise therapy for stroke survivors in creating more effective hemiplegia rehabilitation programs. This research may encourage the use of strengthening in the therapeutic therapy of hemiplegia balance. The groundwork will be laid for future research on strengthening stroke to be organized and given top priority.

      Background: Nano drug delivery system (NDDS) can significantly improve the delivery and efficacy of drugs against pancreatic cancer (PC) in many ways. CiteSpace, VOSviewer, R-bibliometrix, and Microsoft Excel were comprehensively used for bibliometric and visual analysis. Results: A total of 1329 papers on NDDS for PC were included. The number of papers showed an upward trend over the past 20 years. The United States contributed the most papers, followed by China, and India. Also, the United States had the highest number of total citations and H-index. The institution with the most papers was Chinese Acad Sci, which was also the most important in international institutional cooperation. Professors Couvreur P and Kazuoka K made great achievements in this field. JOURNAL OF CONTROLLED RELEASE published the most papers and was cited the most. The topics related to the tumor microenvironment such as "tumor microenvironment", "tumor penetration", "hypoxia", "exosome", and "autophagy", PC treatment-related topics such as "immunotherapy", "combination therapy", "alternating magnetic field/magnetic hyperthermia", and "ultrasound", and gene therapy dominated by "siRNA" and "miRNA" were the research hotspots in the field of NDDS for PC. Conclusion: This study systematically uncovered a holistic picture of the performance of NDDS for PC-related literature over the past 20 years. We provided scholars to understand key information in this field with the perspective of bibliometrics, which we believe may greatly facilitate future research in this field.

      This review aimed to use bibliometric analysis to sort out, analyze and summarize the knowledge foundation and hot topics in the field of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in colorectal cancer (CRC), and point out future trends to inspire related research and innovation. We used CiteSpace to analyze publication outputs, countries, institutions, authors, journals, references, and keywords. Knowledge foundations, hotspots, and future trends were then depicted. The overall research showed the trend of biomedical-oriented multidisciplinary. Much evidence indicates that lncRNA plays the role of oncogene or tumor suppressor in the occurrence and development of CRC. Besides, many lncRNAs have multiple mechanisms. lncRNAs and metastasis of CRC, lncRNAs and drug resistance of CRC, and the clinical application of lncRNAs in CRC are current research hotspots. Through insight into the development trend of lncRNAs in CRC, this study will help researchers extract hidden valuable information for further research.

       Background: To assess the knowledge framework around magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) and to explore MRE research hotspots and emerging trends.
    Methods: The Science Citation Index Expanded of the Web of Science Core Collection was searched on 22 October 2021 for MRE-related studies published between 1995 and 2021. Excel 2016 and CiteSpace V (version 5.8.R3) were used to analyze the downloaded data.
    Results: In all, 1,236 articles published by 726 authors from 540 institutions in 40 countries were included in this study. The top 10 authors published 57.6% of all included articles. The 3 most productive countries were the USA (n=631), Germany (n=202), and France (n=134), and the 3 most productive institutions were the Mayo Clinic (n=240), Charité (n=131), and the University of Illinois (n=56). The USA and the Mayo Clinic had the highest betweenness centrality among countries and institutions, respectively, and played an important role in the field of MRE. In this study, the 24,347 distinct references were clustered into 48 categories via reasonable clustering using specific keywords, forming the knowledge framework. Among the 294 co-occurring keywords, "hepatic fibrosis", "stiffness", "skeletal muscle", "acoustic strain wave", "in vivo", and "non-invasive assessment" were research hotspots. "Diagnostic performance", "diagnostic accuracy", "hepatic steatosis", "chronic hepatitis B", "radiation force impulse", "children", and "echo" were frontier topics.
    Conclusions: Scientometric and visualized analysis of MRE can provide information regarding the knowledge framework, research hotspots, frontier areas, and emerging trends in this field.

      Objective: Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a technique to measure electrical properties of tissue. With the progress of modern integrated circuits and microchips, EIT instrumentation becomes an active research area to improve all aspects of device performance. Plenty of studies on EIT hardware have been presented in prestigious journals. This study explores publications on EIT hardware to identify the developing hotspots and trends. Method: Publications covering EIT hardware on the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database from 1989 to 2021 were collected for bibliometric analysis. CiteSpace and VOS viewer were used to study the characteristics of the publications. Main results: A total of 592 publications were analyzed, showing that the number of annual publications steadily increased. China, England, and South Korea were the most prolific countries on EIT hardware publications with productive native institutions and authors. Research topics spread out in "bio-electrical impedance imaging", "hardware optimization", "algorithms" and "clinical applications" (e.g., tissue, lung, brain, and oncology). Hardware research in "pulmonary" and "hemodynamic" applications focused on monitoring and were represented by silhouette recognition and dynamic imaging while research in "tumor and tissue" and "brain" applications focused on diagnosis and were represented by optimization of precision. Electrode development was a research focus through the years. Imaging precision and bioavailability of hardware optimization may be the future trend. Conclusion: Overall, system performance, particularly in the areas of system bandwidth and precision in applications may be the future directions of hardware research.

       BACKGROUND: Fecal microbial transplantation has emerged in recent years as a method of treating disease by rebuilding the intestinal flora. However, few bibliometric analyses have systematically studied this area of research. We aimed to use bibliometric analysis to visualize trends and topical research in fecal microbial transplantation to help provide insight into future trends in clinical and basic research.
    MATERIALS AND METHODS: Articles and reviews related to fecal microbial transplantation were collected from the Web of Science Core Collection. Significant information associated with this field was visually analyzed by using Biblioshiny and CtieSpace software.
    RESULTS: A total of 3144 articles and overviews were included. The number of publications related to fecal microbial transplantation significantly increased yearly. These publications mainly came from 100 countries, led by the US and China, and 521 institutions. The most prolific and influential author is KHORUTS A. The main disciplines and application fields of fecal microbial transplantation included molecular /biology/immunology and medicine/clinical medicine, and the research foundation of fecal microbial transplantation was molecular /biology/genetics and health/nursing/medicine. An alluvial flow visualization showed several landmark articles. New developments were identified in terms of reference and keyword citation bursts. Data analysis showed that different FMT preparation and delivery methods gradually appeared as research hotspots. The main research keywords in the last 3 years were chain fatty acids, Akkermansia muciniphila, and insulin sensitivity, other keywords were current and developing research fields.
    CONCLUSION: Research on fecal microbial transplantation is flourishing and many new applications of fecal microbial transplantation are emerging. Microbial metabolites such as short-chain fatty acids and the microbiota-gut-brain axis have become the focus of current research and are future research trends.

      Heart failure is one of the major public health problems in the world. In recent years, more and more attention has been paid to the relationship between heart failure and mitochondrial function. In the past 2 decades, a growing number of research papers in this field have been published. This study conducted a bibliometric analysis of the published literature on the relationship between MF and HF in the past 20 years by utilizing Microsoft Excel 2019, Biblio metric analysis platform, WoSCC database, VosViewer and Citespace. The results show that the papers have increased year by year and China and the United States are the leading countries in this field, as well as the countries with the most cooperation and exchanges. University of california system is the research institution with the greatest impacts on research results, and Yip H.K. is the author with more papers. The American Journal of Physiology-heart and Circulatory Physiology is probably the most popular magazine. At present, most of the published articles on mitochondria and HF are cited from internationally influential journals. The research focus includes oxidative stress, metabolic dysfunction, mitochondrial Ca2+ homeostasis imbalance, mitochondrial quality control and mitochondrial dysfunction mediated by inflammation in the pathogenesis of HF. Targeted regulating of mitochondria will be the keynote of future research on prevention and treatment of HF.

       BACKGROUND: The number of women among medical doctors and surgeons continues to rise. However, urology remains one of the least preferred specialties by female physicians, resulting in the inadequate academic representation of female urologists. In this study we examined changes in the representation of female urologists in the journals European Urology (EU) and Journal of Urology (JOU) and investigated in which urology subspecialties female urologists focus their academic studies.
    METHODS: Original articles, reviews and case reports published in EU and JOU were included in the study. The analysis was limited to 4 years, starting with 2004 and continuing at 5-year intervals until 2019.The publications were also classified according to urology subspecialty and geographic location.
    RESULTS: In total, 2708 articles were analysed. Overall, women accounted for 9.9% of first authors (267/2708) and 5.9% of senior authors (161/2708).The proportion of female first authors was 8.2% in 2004 and increased to 10.7% in 2009, 10.6% in 2014, and 11.6% in 2019 (P = 0.062). The proportion of female last authors was 7% in 2004 and 5.3%, 6.1%, and 2.5% in 2009, 2014, and 2019, respectively (P = 0.011). Women accounted for a significantly higher proportion of first authors than men in publications related to female and paediatric urology (P = 0.001 and P = 0.002, respectively).
    CONCLUSIONS: The increasing number of women urologists worldwide is not reflected in the scientific authorship of female urologists. Multicenter studies focusing on the elimination of gender disparity in academic representation are needed in surgical branches such as urology.

       BACKGROUND: Advances in next-generation sequencing technologies are changing the ways cancer diagnosis and treatment, which leads to a new branch of precision medicine: "Precision Oncology". This study aims to deliver a structured overview to carry out a bibliometric analysis of precision oncology research over the past 10 years retrospectively.
    METHODS: Bibliometric methods including clustering analysis and co-occurrence visualized study were conducted based on publications of academic databases Web of Science Main Collection from 1st January 2012, to 31st December 2021. This study analyzed the information about related research outputs, countries, institutions, authors, cited papers, and hot topics.
    RESULTS: 7163 papers related to precision oncology were identified. Since 2014, the number of articles has proliferated, and oncology precision has attracted significant attention from scholars worldwide in recent years. The USA leads the research in this field, and the League of European Research Universities is the primary research institution. Research institutions from Asia paid more attention to this field through high-level international cooperation. Besides, there are still many issues expected to be explored and evaluated correctly. Such as the considerable uncertainty that pharmacogenomic methods have no significant influence on patient outcomes.
    CONCLUSIONS: Precision oncology serves as an essential method in clinical treatment, and is closely related to biological study, including biochemistry, molecular and genetics, advanced technology, and pharmacology discovery. The future research prospect would be the broad involvement of social participation and global cooperation in oncology precision research to acquire better results via the balance of technology and public health policy.

      Women are underrepresented across the field of orthopedic surgery and may face barriers to academic advancement. Research presentation at national meetings and publication record are important drivers of advancement in academic orthopedic surgery. However, little is known regarding potential gender differences in publication after orthopedic conference research presentation. This investigation analyzed research presentations at the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in 2016 and 2017. Author gender was determined through a search of institutional and professional networking websites for gender-specific pronouns. Resulting publications were identified using a systematic search of PubMed and Google Scholar databases. A total of 1696 of 1803 (94.1%) abstracts from 2016 to 2017 had identifiable gender for both the first and last authors, with 1213 (71.5%) abstracts ultimately being published. There were no differences in average sample size or level of evidence between genders. Abstracts authored by women were significantly less likely to lead to publication compared with those by men (67.1% vs 72.1%, P=.023), with articles authored by women having a longer median time to publication (median, 20 months [interquartile range, 19] vs 17 months [interquartile range, 15]; P=.003). This discrepancy was most apparent in adult reconstruction, with women having a 15.5% lower rate of publication (55.1% [27/49] vs 70.6% [307/435]; P=.026) and lower publication journal impact factor (2.7±1.4 vs 3.4±3.4, P=.040) than men. Potential reasons for these discrepancies, including disproportionate domestic obligations, inadequate mentorship, and bias against female researchers, should be addressed.       This study offers a systematic review of global academic publications of studies on expressive writing in psychology to date. By using two visualization tools VOSviewer and CiteSpace, we analyzed 1,429 articles on expressive writing from the Web of Science (WoS) Core Collection database. This study might be the first attempt at providing a visualized analysis of the existing expressive writing research. It discusses the results from the following three aspects: (1) the descriptive analysis of general results based on publications, (2) the content analysis based on highly cited articles and keyword analysis, (3) the thematic evolution based on co-word analysis and bursts detection. It is found that the application of expressive writing to minority ethnic groups might be one of the future research interests. The study proposes the necessity of conducting research in the context of positive psychology, argues for a combined use of creative and expressive writing in future studies, and suggests the potential of second/foreign language expressive writing research. The study can be used to enhance researchers' understanding of expressive writing research and provide insights into future research opportunities in this area.

      As green development has become a mainstream feature of modern development, green technology has become an inevitable trend in the development of mining technology, and related research on the subject continues to accumulate. Based on the bibliometric analysis of the green mining (GM) research from 2001 to 2020, we try to capture GM research and development trends from the perspective of global green development. The results show that the growth rate of GM research is much higher than that of conventional mining research, and the research results are growing rapidly. A visual collaborative network was created to identify the main research countries and author distribution and explore the most contributed journals. The research themes in GM show an evolution from sustainability theory to the application of green technologies in mines to the establishment of long-term mechanisms and policy regulation. The keyword co-occurrence results show that the current GM research covers the whole life cycle of mines. Soil, waste disposal, and recycling are long-standing research hotspots, and the most relevant articles are about resource recycling. Based on the keyword co-occurrence results, the proportion of restoration and management research has rapidly increased from 7.3 to 28.9%. Ecological restoration, reclamation and monitoring, remote sensing, and other technologies are more closely integrated usually accompanied by research related to evaluation and management. With the evolution of the theme, the research on GM is becoming more and more comprehensive. It reflects an extremely strong interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary character.

      In this paper, a bibliometric analysis of research on wearable technologies for cardiovascular diseases was conducted with Bibliometrix and based on 1675 papers collected in Scopus from 2000 to 2022, and interesting results were presented. The US and China stood out for their sustained productivity in the field of cardiovascular diseases. The examination of the authors' keywords revealed that between 2000-01 and 2009-12, "Respiration" and "personalized applications" were the most popular research topics, however from 2010-01 to 2019-12, attention was given to "ECG," "Wearable devices," "Wearable sensors," and "heart rate". This study suggests that in the present decade, researchers should focus on topics related to artificial intelligence, hypertension, ECG, wearable sensors, and African countries must address their technological gap in the coming years.

      Atherosclerosis (AS) is widespread and develops into circulatory system problems. T cells play an essential regulatory role in AS occurrence and development. So far, there is no bibliometric research on T cells and AS. To learn more about T cell and AS development, 4,381 records were retrieved from Web of Science™ Core Collection. Then, these records were scientometrically analyzed using CiteSpace and VOSviewer in terms of spatiotemporal distribution, author distribution, subject categories, topic distribution, references, and keywords. Our analysis provides basic information on research in the field, demonstrates that the field has stabilized over the past decade, and identifies potential partners for interested researchers. Current research hotspots in this field mainly include the inflammatory mechanism, immune mechanism, related diseases, and related cytokines of AS. B cell, mortality, inhibition, and monocyte represent the frontiers of research in this field, undergoing an explosive phase. We hope that this work will provide new ideas for advancing the scientific research and clinical application of T cell and AS.

      The impact factor is used to rank the quality of scientific journals but has been criticised for a number of reasons. The aim of the study was to investigate sleep researchers' perceptions of sleep journals to determine whether subjective rankings of journals were in line with the journals' impact factors. Clarivate's Journal Citation Reports website was used to identify journals containing the words 'sleep' or 'dream' in the titles with an impact factor since 2018, resulting in 12 journals. A survey including questions about how the respondent would rank these journals (e.g., three most prestigious journals) was developed. A total of 122 sleep researchers completed the survey. Sleep, Sleep Medicine Reviews and Journal of Sleep Research were ranked as the three most prestigious sleep journals, in line with the impact factors of the journals. For the rest of the journals, the subjective rankings and impact factors did not correspond as much.

      The success of mRNA vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 implies that this technology can be applied to target any pathogen. However, the scientific production and research trends using the bibliometric method are still unknown. The top 100 most cited articles on mRNA vaccine research were obtained from the Scopus database from 1995 to 2021. Bibliometrix, an R-Package, and VOSviewer 1.6.11 were used for data analysis. There is a rapid growth in scientific outputs with a gradual increase in 2021. The United States produced 45 (45%) of the articles, followed by Germany with 15 (15%) and Israel with 10 (10%). The New England Journal of Medicine published the most papers in this field 13 (13%), followed by Nature 6(6%). Barney S. Graham was the most productive author among the top 100 most cited mRNA vaccine articles. University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, US, was the top ranking institution, having 37 (37%). The visualization map clearly and spontaneously displayed the current state and research hot spots of mRNA research from a specific perspective. The most frequent keywords were COVID-19, vaccine, mRNA vaccine, mRNA, SARS-CoV-2, and immunogenicity, among others. A systematic review of the articles provided evidence that out of 100 articles, approximately 25 (25%) were focused on vaccine production and evaluation, followed by 26 (26%) in mRNA vaccine safety and efficacy, 23 (23%) were into mRNA vaccination, 23 (23%) considered risk factors associated with mRNA vaccination, while 8 (8%) of the articles covered the issue of mRNA vaccine delivery. In addition, 42% of the articles focused on COVID-19, 17% on cancer, 8% on influenza virus, 4% on COVID-19 and kidney disease, 3% COVID-19 and myocarditis, and 3% on rabies virus, among others. The findings of this systematic and thematic analysis provided the knowledge basis for further research on mRNA vaccines globally.

      This study focussed on evaluating the status of recent research on medical decision-making for adolescents with depression and identifying research hotspots and frontiers via CiteSpace. We extracted studies that were concerned with medical decision-making for adolescents with depression from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC), covering the period from 1 January 1999 to 20 September 2022. We used CiteSpace to generate online maps of worldwide cooperation among countries, institutions, and authors. Hotspots and frontiers were systematically summarized. A total of 368 papers related to medical decision-making for adolescents with depression were obtained from WoSCC. The most prolific author was Nick Midgley (seven papers). The United States and University College London were the leading country and institution in this research area, with 177 and 17 papers, respectively. Countries, institutions, and authors all actively collaborated. Main recent research trends include the preference or attitude towards medical treatment in adolescents with depression; approaches for adolescents with depression to seeking medical help; and the key role of parent, family, and primary care in medical decision-making for adolescents. Thus, further attention should be paid to determining how to promote the role of parents, families, and primary care in the decision-making process and create appropriate online help-seeking tools and decision aids to facilitate shared decision-making in the future.

      According to recent literature on "architecture" as a discipline, practical knowledge relevant to its process of making has decreased in importance in favor of a more academic approach. Using data derived from Ulrich's Periodical Directory and Clarivate Analytics's Web of Science, this paper suggests providing empirical evidence supporting of such shift, as revealed by an overview of the dissemination practices in architecture scholarly production between 1980 and 2015. Our results support that architecture is becoming increasingly academic, as demonstrated by the growing proportion of articles and journals intended for scholars rather than for professionals. We also show that architecture is increasingly global, with decreased interest in local and/or national issues and the growing prevalence of English as a publication language. Finally, this academic focus is manifested in references cited by architectural papers with the gradual substitution of professional and artistic oriented knowledge, for scientific approaches tied to engineering and technology.

       INTRODUCTION: Traditionally, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requires residency programs to implement research and other scholarly activities into their training curriculum. Encouraging residents to publish during residency is believed to promote research throughout their careers; however, the rate of research outcomes among general surgery residents remains unknown. Our study aims to determine associated factors that influence publication rates before, during, and after general surgery residency.
    METHODS: This observational study employed a cross-sectional design. We examined whether research outcomes during general surgery residency was associated with academic advancement or continued research involvement after residency. We identified 321 general surgery residency programs on the Doximity website and randomly selected 50 to include in our sample. Of these programs, graduate rosters for 31 programs were located and subsequently included. Of the 405 residency graduates identified, we recorded the number of peer-reviewed publications, H-indices, fellowships, and whether the graduate pursued a career in private practice or academia.
    RESULTS: Among the 405 physicians analyzed, 3815 total publications were identified with a mean of 9.4 (SD 11.8) per person. The most reported study design was observational studies (46.5%; 1775/3815) and the least reported was systematic reviews/meta-analyses (1.4%; 52/3815). The number of publications before residency positively correlated with having a higher h-index (r = 0.4). We also found that physicians who completed a fellowship had more publications during residency (mean = 4.7, SD = 6.5) than those not pursuing a fellowship (mean = 1.5, SD = 2.7; t= -4.3. p ≤ 0.001). We observed a statistically significant increase in the likelihood a physician pursued a career in academic medicine if they pursued a fellowship (OR: 3.77, 95% CI: 2.0-7.2) and if they had published research as a primary author (OR 1.25, 95% CI: 1.0-1.5).
    CONCLUSION: Increased research productivity was associated with continued academic pursuits and an increased likelihood of pursuing fellowship training after residency.

      Based on the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database, the academic works published in the past 30 years on biodegradable films for soil were analyzed. In order to ensure the rigor of this experiment, this paper is based on the mathematical double matrix model VOS Viewer software and CiteSpace software. This work shows that publications of biodegradable films for soil are increasing year by year; polymer science is the hottest subject in the field of biodegradable films for soil; China and the United States are the countries with the most significant number of publications in this field, has an important position; Washington State University is the most published institution. This study further identifies and reveals the essential characteristics, research strength, knowledge structure, main research fields, and research hotspots in the late stage of the field of biodegradable films for soil and introduces the Activity Index (AI) and the Attractive Index (AAI), thereby assessing trends and performance in different countries. The paper also further illustrates the importance of biodegradable films by presenting field trials using biodegradable films on different plants. The research in the field of biodegradable films for soil is divided into four categories: "The research field of degradation," "The effect of biodegradable film on soil," "Performance and mechanism of the biodegradable film," and "Effects of biodegradable film on crop growth and development.". The study can be seen as a microcosm of the development of biodegradable films for soils, which will help researchers quickly identify their general patterns. Readers can better understand the changes and development trends in this field in the past 30 years and provide references for future research.

      Significant amounts of mining tailings are generated and disposed of every year in dams, leading to potentially serious environmental and safety problems. To identify alternatives for the disposal of these wastes, research works involving their potential application as precursors in the development of alkaline-activated materials have been published in recent years. In this context, the objective of this paper is to present an overview of the main contributions already made on the subject, identified through a bibliometric review and content analysis in the Scopus and Web of Science databases. There was an exponential growth of interest in the subject in the period 2019-2021, when more than 50% of the papers were published. The most used tailings and sub-areas of research were also identified.

       BACKGROUND: The way in which research impact is evaluated and assessed has long been under debate. In recent years the focus is moving away from the use of numerical indicators, towards an emphasis on narratives. The Dutch university medical centres (UMCs) have a long-standing tradition of using bibliometric indicators. Because of the declining interest in indicators alone, this study was designed to repurpose bibliometrics to answer specific strategic questions. In this article we discuss the strategic and policy-based questions, the methodology we used in uncovering relevant information and conclusions we draw from the analyses we performed. The aim of this article is to inform a broader audience about the potential applications of bibliometric information to support a new form of research intelligence.
    METHODS: In this study we used a curated set of publications from the UMCs. We performed different bibliometric analyses and used bibliometric visualization tools to shed light on research focus, open science practices, collaboration, societal impact and scientific impact.
    RESULTS: The analyses allowed us to visualize and contextualize the research focus of the UMCs as a whole, but also to show specific focus areas of each UMC. The UMCs are active in the full spectrum of biomedical research, and at the same time are very complementary to each other. Furthermore, we were able to show the development of open access of UMC publications over time, to support the national mission. Visualizing collaboration is a powerful way of showing both the international orientation and the regional and national engine function of UMCs in research. We were able to assess societal impact by looking at the different channels in which publications find their way to societally relevant sources such as news media, policy documents and guidelines. Finally, we assessed scientific impact and put this into an international perspective.
    CONCLUSIONS: Research intelligence is able to transform bibliometric information by interpretation and annotation into highly relevant insights that can be used for several different strategic purposes and for research impact assessment in general.

       Objective: In the past 2 years, the number of scientific publications has grown exponentially. The COVID-19 outbreak hugely contributed to this dramatic increase in the volume of published research. Currently, text mining of the volume of SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19 publications is limited to the first months of the outbreak. We aim to identify the major topics in COVID-19 literature collected from several citational sources and analyze the temporal trend from November 2019 to December 2021.
    Methods: We performed an extensive literature search on SARS-Cov-2 and COVID-19 publications on PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science (WoS) and a structural topic modelling on the retrieved abstracts. The temporal trend of the recognized topics was analyzed. Furthermore, a comparison between our corpus and the COVID-19 Open Research Dataset (CORD-19) repository was performed.
    Results: We collected 269,186 publications and identified 10 topics. The most popular topic was related to the clinical pictures of the COVID-19 outbreak, which has a constant trend, and the least popular includes studies on COVID-19 literature and databases. "Telemedicine", "Vaccine development", and "Epidemiology" were popular topics in the early phase of the pandemic; increasing topics in the last period are "COVID-19 impact on mental health", "Forecasting", and "Molecular Biology". "Education" was the second most popular topic, which emerged in September 2020.
    Conclusions: We identified 10 topics for classifying COVID-19 research publications and estimated a nonlinear temporal trend that gives an overview of their unfolding over time. Several citational databases must be searched to retrieve a complete set of studies despite the efforts to build repositories for COVID-19 literature. Our collected data can help build a more focused literature search between November 2019 and December 2021 when carrying out systematic and rapid reviews and our findings can give a complete picture on the topic.

      With the increasing importance of interdisciplinary research, some studies have focused on the role of reference diversity by analysing reference lists of published papers. However, the relationship between the knowledge diversity of collaborating team members and research performance has been overlooked. In this study, we measured knowledge diversity through the disciplinary attributes of collaborating authors and research performance (understood as societal impact) through altmetric data. The major findings are: (1) The relationship between interdisciplinary collaboration diversity and societal impact is not a simple linear one, showing an inverted U-shaped pattern; and (2) As the number of collaborative disciplines increases, the marginal effects diminish or even become outweighed by the costs, showing a predominance of negative influences. Hence, diversity in interdisciplinary collaboration does not always have a positive impact. Research collaborations need to take into account the cost issues associated with the diversity of member disciplines.

       BACKGROUND: The spread of SARS-CoV-2, multidrug-resistant organisms and other healthcare-associated pathogens represents supra-regional challenges for infection prevention and control (IPC) specialists in every European country. To tackle these problems, cross-site research collaboration of IPC specialists is very important. This study assesses the extent and quality of national research collaborations of IPC departments of university hospitals located in Austria, England, France, Germany, and the Netherlands, identifies network gaps, and provides potential solutions.
    METHODS: Joint publications of IPC heads of all university hospitals of the included countries between 1st of June 2013 until 31st of May 2020 were collected by Pubmed/Medline search. Further, two factors, the journal impact factor and the type/position of authorship, were used to calculate the Scientific Collaboration Impact (SCI) for all included sites; nationwide network analysis was performed.
    RESULTS: In five European countries, 95 sites and 125 responsible leaders for IPC who had been in charge during the study period were identified. Some countries such as Austria have only limited national research cooperations, while the Netherlands has established a gapless network. Most effective collaborating university site of each country were Lille with an SCI of 1146, Rotterdam (408), Berlin (268), Sussex (204), and Vienna/Innsbruck (18).
    DISCUSSION: The present study indicates major differences and room for improvement in IPC research collaborations within each country and underlines the potential and importance of collaborating in IPC.

       OBJECTIVES: This article compares research on biological embedding and the embodiment of social experiences, two concepts proposed in the 1990s to introduce a new perspective on the social production of health inequalities. We draw on Ludwig Fleck's concept of 'thought style' (1935/2008) to question the possible emergence of a common research program around the processes by which the social becomes biological.
    METHODS: We compiled a corpus of 322 articles referring to either biological embedding or to the embodiment of social experiences, identified in the Web of Science core collection and published from 1990 to 2021. We analyzed the articles' use of these concepts using scientometric indicators and qualitative content analysis.
    RESULTS: Initial differences between the research agendas associated with biological embedding and embodiment are strengthened as both concepts circulate around scientific communities studying the social production of health inequalities. Thought styles formed around embedding and embodiment differ significantly in terms of shared references, sets of methods and research questions, and policy recommendations. Research on biological embedding forms a thought style shared by researchers in the biomedical and public health sciences. Conversely, the concept of embodiment of social experiences connects perspectives from biomedical, public health, human and social sciences, and gathers three thought styles, one identical to that of biological embedding and two formed in social epidemiology and in medical anthropology.
    CONCLUSIONS: Acknowledging the differences between the concepts and divergences in their evolution provides an opportunity for identification of topics where thought styles are either complementary or in tension.

      Anecdotally, female plastic surgeons are disproportionately underrepresented as speakers, moderators, and panelists at national and regional plastic surgery meetings. No studies have attempted to quantify female representation at Plastic Surgery The Meeting (PSTM). The objective of our study is to examine trends in female participation at PSTM. Names of participating plastic surgeons and their conference positions were obtained from PSTM meeting programs between 2015-2020. Conference positions included instructor, lead, lecturer, moderator, panelist, or other. Presentations were grouped as the following: conference/symposium; general session; instructional course; and lab. An automated gender assignment tool (gender-api.com) was used to determine the gender of participants. Descriptive statistics and trend analyses using Cochran-Armitage trend tests were performed. Between 2015-2020, 3,382 individuals (602 females, 17.8%) presented at PSTM in one of the instructional or moderating roles. Female presenters at PSTM increased from 60 (12.4%) in 2015, to 155 (26.5%) by 2020. The results for the proportion of females presenting in the general session and the instructional courses were statistically significant (p < .0001; p =.029), demonstrating a positive linear trend in the female proportions over the years. From 2015 to 2020, the proportions of females holding positions as moderators, panelists, and "other" increased significantly (p = .011; p = .011; p < .0001). Although female participation at PSTM has shown substantial growth over the last five years, there still exists a considerable gender imbalance. Notably, females were less likely to hold prominent positions, such as instructors, leads, or lecturers.

      This paper proposes a text-mining framework to systematically identify vanishing or newly formed topics in highly interdisciplinary and diverse fields like cognitive science. We apply topic modeling via non-negative matrix factorization to cognitive science publications before and after 2012; this allows us to study how the field has changed since the revival of neural networks in the neighboring field of AI/ML. Our proposed method represents the two distinct sets of topics in an interpretable, common vector space, and uses an entropy-based measure to quantify topical shifts. Case studies on vanishing (e.g., connectionist/symbolic AI debate) and newly emerged (e.g., art and technology) topics are presented. Our framework can be applied to any field or any historical event considered to mark a major shift in thought. Such findings can help lead to more efficient and impactful scientific discoveries.

      The rise of China as a scientific research superpower has been frequently discussed in media and literature. However, past analyses are usually based on the geographical database and they ignore how the millions of emigrated Chinese students, who are now being considered the major research workforce in many countries, affect their academic outputs. Here we quantitatively analyze the contribution of Chinese scholars in physical science around the globe by their publications in a country's papers from 2010 to 2021 as well as their citations. Contrary to common perception, we find that increasing the number of Chinese scholars does not correlate with the net publication growth or decline in their host countries before the Chinese population exceeds a critical value. On the other hand, increasing Chinese authors in a paper improves its citations. The phenomena, though anomalous, are observed in many subfields of physics across the globe. Our analysis suggests that although Chinese scholars do not change the perceived publication capabilities of many countries but may have reshaped their research culture as well as workforce distributions. The results would be valuable for R&D, higher education, and immigration policymakers.

       BACKGROUND: The use of new total joint arthroplasty technologies, including patient-specific implants/instrumentation (PSI), computer-assisted (CA), and robotic-assisted (RA) techniques, is increasing. There is an ongoing debate regarding the value provided and potential concerns about conflicts of interest (COI).
    METHODS: PRISMA guidelines were followed. PubMed, MEDLINE, and Web of Science databases were searched for total hip and knee arthroplasties, unicompartmental knee arthroplasties (UKA), PSI, CA, and RA. Bibliometric data, financial COI, clinical/functional scores, and patient-reported outcomes were assessed.
    RESULTS: Eighty-seven studies were evaluated, with 35 (40.2%) including at least one author reporting COI, and 13 (14.9%) disclosing industry funding. COI and industry funding had no significant effects on outcomes (P = 0.682, P = 0.447), and there were no significant effects of conflicts or funding on level of evidence (P = 0.508, P = 0.826). Studies in which author(s) disclosed COI had significantly higher relative citation ratio (RCR) and impact factor (IF) than those without (P < 0.001, P = 0.032). Subanalysis demonstrated RA and PSI studies were more likely to report COI or industry funding (P = 0.045). RA (OR = 6.31, 95% CI: 1.61-24.68) and UKA (OR = 9.14, 95% CI: 1.43-58.53) had higher odds of reporting favorable outcomes than PSI.
    CONCLUSIONS: Author COIs (about 40%) may be lower than previously reported in orthopedic technologies/techniques reviews. Studies utilizing RA and PSI were more likely to report COI, while RA and UKA studies were more likely to report favorable outcomes than PSI. No statistically significant association between the presence of COIs and/or industry funding and the frequency of favorable outcomes or study level of evidence was found.

       BACKGROUND: There is an increased interest in Non-Conventional Therapies (NCTs), often referred to as complementary and alternative medicines, in veterinary clinical practice.
    AIM: To map the bibliometric outputs of NCTs in veterinary medicine, and identify which are most prevalent, and the extent to which their publishing has increased.
    METHODS: Text mining algorithms were applied to detect 17 NCTs-related terms (acupuncture, ayurveda/ayurvedic, traditional Chinese medicine, traditional medicine, chiropractic, electroacupuncture, essential oil, plant extract, ethnopharmacology, herbal medicine, homeopathy, low-level laser therapy, medicinal plant, natural product, osteopathy, phytotherapy, and massage) in the title, abstract or keywords of all retrievable literature until 2020 under the PubMed MeSH term 'veterinary' (N= 377 556). Point prevalence, incidence by decade and cumulative incidence were calculated.
    RESULTS: Bibliometric trend analysis revealed an overall increase in NCTs-related terms over the last 20 years, with a substantial growth of studies mentioning plant extracts, essential oils and medicinal plants. Traditional Chinese medicine, herbal medicine and natural product have also increased in the same period, although their numbers remain low. Conversely, reference to acupuncture has decreased in the last decade when compared with the previous decade, whereas references to homeopathy, electroacupuncture, osteopathy and chiropractic remained scarce, suggesting that their use in veterinary clinical practice may not be based on published evidence.
    CONCLUSION: Further reviews to explore this issue are warranted, differentiating secondary from primary literature, and assessing relevance and methodological quality of individual studies, following the principles of evidence-based veterinary medicine.
