      PURPOSE: This study aims to analyse papers concerning journal impact factors published in the Injury-International Journal of the Care of the Injured between 1997 and 2022. Through this analysis, the research offers valuable insights into the publication performance and contributors to the journal impact factor, encompassing papers, authors, institutions, and countries.METHODS: Articles and reviews published in the Injury between 1995 and 2021 were examined using the Science Citation Index Expanded database. The study employed the journal impact factor contributing indicator to compare highly cited and high journal impact factor papers across various aspects, including papers, authors, institutions, and countries.
    RESULTS: A notable correlation exists between prolific authors, institutions, and countries, alongside those who contribute to high journal impact factors. However, a less distinct connection was observed between highly cited papers/authors and high journal impact factor contributors. The Injury serves as a well-regarded international journal. Notably, editorial members of the journal play a substantial role, serving as model editors and contributing significantly to the journal's success. Out of the Top 25 IF contributing papers with the CN of 34 or more the following themes were noted to dominate: bone healing/tissue regeneration (40 %) of papers, covid-19 pandemic (24 %), polytrauma/coagulopathy (12 %) and infection (8 %).
    CONCLUSIONS: Utilizing the journal impact factor to assess research performance at the individual, institutional, or national levels appears not to be the most appropriate method. The results show that highly cited authors did not hold the distinction of being the primary contributors to the IF. Analysis revealed a low significant relationship among the primary contributors to the IF, highly cited papers, and the most influential papers in 2022. A more effective indicator could involve considering the total number of citations a publication receives from its year of publication up to the end of the most recent year.

      OBJECTIVE: Thromboangiitis obliterans (TAO) is one of the most common types of peripheral arterial disease (PAD). This study aimed to explore the characteristics of the top 100 most cited articles in the TAO.METHODS: A bibliometric analysis based on the Web of Science (WOS) database was performed. Literature was retrieved and ranked by the citations. Listed below are the top 100 citations, including original articles, reviews, full-length proceeding papers, and case reports that were included for analysis. The type of literature, research areas, and languages were recorded. The trends of citations including the total citations, an analysis of publication and citation numbers were conducted each year. We analyzed citations from highly cited countries, authors, institutions, and journals. Research hotspots were gathered by a visualized analysis of author keywords.
    RESULTS: Most of the highly cited literature was original articles. A rising trend was observed in the number of citations per year. The peaks in the number of highly cited articles appeared in the year 1998 and 2006. The majority of the articles focused on the cardiovascular system and surgery. Journal of Vascular Surgery published most of the highly cited articles. The USA and Japan contributed nearly half the number of highly cited articles. Mayo Clinic and Nagoya University were highly cited institutions. Shionoya S and Olin JW were both the author with the largest number of citations and the most highly cited author in the reference. Articles that were highly cited most often addressed the following topics: "vasculitis", "autoimmune disease", and "critical limb ischemia". Keywords that were mostly used in recent years were "stem cell therapy", "progenitor therapy", and "immunoadsorption". The detection of bursts of author keywords showed the following: "permeability", "differentiation", and "critical limb ischemia" are recent keywords that have burst.
    CONCLUSIONS: In this study, the highly cited contributors in the field of TAO research were identified. Most cited articles in the top 100 focused on the cardiovascular system and surgery. Treatment and pathophysiology including stem cell therapy, progenitor therapy, genetics, autoimmunity, and inflammation are the hotspots of TAO.

      Background: The bioinformatics analysis on glioma has been a hot point recently. The purpose of this study was to provide an overview of the research in this field using a bibliometric method.Methods: The Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database was used to search for literature related to the bioinformatics analysis of gliomas. Countries, institutions, authors, references, and keywords were analyzed using VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and Microsoft Excel software.
    Result: China was the most productive country, while the USA was the most cited. Capital Medical University had the largest number of publications and citations. Institutions tend to collaborate more with other institutions in their countries rather than foreign ones. The most productive and most cited author was Jiang Tao. Two citation paths were identified, with literature in basic research journals often cited in clinical journals. Immune-related vocabularies appeared frequently in recent studies.
    Conclusion: Glioma bioinformatics analyses spanned a wide range of fields. The international communication in this field urgently needs to be strengthened. Glioma bioinformatics approaches are developing from basic research to clinical applications. Recently, immune-related research has become a focus.

      Background: Intraoperative hypotension (IOH) is a common complication occurring in surgical practice. This study aims to comprehensively review the collaboration and impact of countries, institutions, authors, journals, keywords, and critical papers on intraoperative hypotension from the perspective of bibliometric, and to evaluate the evolution of knowledge structure clustering and identify research hotspots and emerging topics.Methods: Articles and reviews related to IOH published from 2004 to 2022 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. Bibliometric analyses and visualization were conducted on Excel, CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Bibliometrix (R-Tool of R-Studio).
    Results: A total of 1,784 articles and reviews were included from 2004 to 2022. The number of articles on IOH gradually increased in the past few years, and peaked in 2021. These publications were chiefly from 1,938 institutions in 40 countries, led by America and China in publications. Sessler Daniel I published the most papers and enjoyed the highest number of citations. Analysis of the journals with the most outputs showed that most journals concentrated on perioperative medicine and clinical anesthesiology. Delirium, acute kidney injury and vasoconstrictor agents are the current and developing research hotspots. The keywords "Acute kidney injury", "postoperative complication", "machine learning", "risk factors" and "hemodynamic instability" may also become new trends and focuses of the near future research.
    Conclusion: This study uses bibliometrics and visualization methods to comprehensively review the research on intraoperative hypotension, which is helpful for scholars to better understand the dynamic evolution of IOH and provide directions for future research.

      Background: Cellular senescence is associated with age-related pathological changes, senescent cells promote the development of knee osteoarthritis. A better understanding between knee osteoarthritis and cellular senescence may enhance the effectiveness of therapies that aim to slow or stop the progression of this disease. Purpose: This study aimed to systematically analyze and visualize the publication trends, research frontiers and current research hotspots of knee osteoarthritis and cellular senescence by using bibliometrics. Methods: The publication search was performed on the Web of Science Core Collection database for documents published from 1992 to 2023. VOSviewer, Citespace, R package Bibliometrix and Microsoft Office Excel were used to study the characteristics of the publications. The publication number, countries, institutions, authors, journals, citations and co-citations, keywords were analyzed. Results: A total of 1,074 publications were analyzed, with an average annual growth rate of 29.89%. United States accounted for the biggest contributor, ranked first in publications and citations. Publications of this field were published in 420 journals, OSTEOARTHRITIS and CARTILAGE was the most influential. A total of 5,657 authors contributed to this research. The most productive author was Lotz, MK (n = 31, H-index = 22, Total citation = 2,619), followed by Loeser, R.F (n = 16, H-index = 14, Total citation = 2,825). However, the collaboration between authors was relatively weak. Out of the 1,556 institutions involved, 60% were from the United States. Scripps Research ranked first with 25 papers and a total of 2,538 citations. The hotspots of this field had focused on the pathomechanisms (e.g., expression, inflammation, apoptosis, autophagy, oxidative stress) and therapeutics (e.g., stem cell, platelet-rich plasma, transplantation, autologous chondrocytes, repair), and the exploration of Senolytics might be the important direction of future research. Conclusion: Research on the cross field of knee osteoarthritis and cellular senescence is flourishing. Age-related pathomechanism maps of various cells in the joint and the targeted medicines for the senescent cells may be the future trends. This bibliometric study provides a comprehensive analysis of this cross field and new insights into future research.

      BACKGROUND: The use of machine learning and deep learning techniques in the research on diabetes has garnered attention in recent times. Nonetheless, few studies offer a thorough picture of the knowledge generation landscape in this field. To address this, a bibliometric analysis of scientific articles published from 2000 to 2022 was conducted to discover global research trends and networks and to emphasize the most prominent countries, institutions, journals, articles, and key topics in this domain.METHODS: The Scopus database was used to identify and retrieve high-quality scientific documents. The results were classified into categories of detection (covering diagnosis, screening, identification, segmentation, among others), prediction (prognosis, forecasting, estimation), and management (treatment, control, monitoring, education, telemedicine integration). Biblioshiny and RStudio were used to analyze the data.
    RESULTS: A total of 1773 articles were collected and analyzed. The number of publications and citations increased substantially since 2012, with a notable increase in the last 3 years. Of the 3 categories considered, detection was the most dominant, followed by prediction and management. Around 53.2% of the total journals started disseminating articles on this subject in 2020. China, India, and the United States were the most productive countries. Although no evidence of outstanding leadership by specific authors was found, the University of California emerged as the most influential institution for the development of scientific production.
    CONCLUSION: This is an evolving field that has experienced a rapid increase in productivity, especially over the last years with exponential growth. This trend is expected to continue in the coming years.

      Anesthesia-induced neurotoxicity is a major concern for anesthetists for more than 20 years. Many experimental and clinical studies have been conducted on this topic since late 1990s. However, bibliometric analysis of these papers has not been reported. In this study, we aimed to analyze the 100 most cited articles on anesthesia-induced neurotoxicity. It was planned as cross-sectional study. On January 30, 2023, we searched the "Web of Science (WOS)" database for anesthesia-induced neurotoxicity and most cited 100 papers about this topic were obtained. Data such as authors' names, year of publication, name of the journal, type of paper, and citation numbers were analyzed. The most cited 100 papers were read by the investigators, and the anesthetic, animal type in experimental studies, any protective agent and the method for detecting neurotoxicity used in the studies were also noted. There were 75 articles and 22 reviews in the 100 most cited articles. We found that most of the papers in most cited 100 list were published between 2010 to 1024. Most of the papers (11%) were from Harvard University and almost half of the papers (49%) were published in Anesthesiology. A great number of studies were performed in newborns or early childhood (85.5%) and inhalational anesthetics (54.7%) were the most studied anesthetic type. Most of the most cited 100 papers were published in Q1 journals (P = .012) and the continent of the most journals in this list was America (P = .014). The median total and annual citation numbers of funded papers were statistically significantly higher (P < .001 and P < .001 respectively). Anesthesia-induced neurotoxicity is very important, especially for pediatric anesthetists. This study is the first to conduct a bibliometric analysis of the most cited 100 publications on this field. Although there was a gap in the publications about this topic during COVID-19 pandemic, we believe that there will be many more publications on anesthesia-induced neurotoxicity since the mechanism, outcome and possible protection are still unknown.

      Objectives: This scientometric and bibliometric analysis explored scientific publications related to hydraulic calcium silicate-based (HCSB) sealers used in endodontology, aiming to describe basic bibliometric indicators and analyze current research trends.Materials and Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in Web of Science and Scopus using specific HCSB sealer and general endodontic-related terms. Basic research parameters were collected, including publication year, authorship, countries, institutions, journals, level of evidence, study design and topic of interest, title terms, author keywords, citation counts, and density.
    Results: In total, 498 articles published in 136 journals were retrieved for the period 2008-2023. Brazil was the leading country, and the universities of Bologna in Italy and Sao Paolo in Brazil were represented equally as leading institutions. The most frequently occurring keywords were "calcium silicate," "root canal sealer MTA-Fillapex," and "biocompatibility," while title terms such as "calcium," "sealers," "root," "canal," "silicate based," and "endodontic" occurred most often. According to the thematic map analysis, "solubility" appeared as a basic theme of concentrated research interest, and "single-cone technique" was identified as an emerging, inadequately developed theme. The co-occurrence analysis revealed 4 major clusters centered on sealers' biological and physicochemical properties, obturation techniques, retreatability, and adhesion.
    Conclusions: This analysis presents bibliographic features and outlines changing trends in HCSB sealer research. The research output is dominated by basic science articles scrutinizing the biological and specific physicochemical properties of commonly used HCSB sealers. Future research needs to be guided by studies with a high level of evidence that utilize innovative, sophisticated technologies.

      Research output provides an insight into the development of the scientific capability of a country. Budget allocation for research and development (R&D) is directly proportional to the research output of a country. Bibliometric analysis of South American countries has not been done in many studies. The purpose of this paper was to analyse research outputs from South American countries on various metrics. An analysis was done for a period of 11 years from 2010 to 2020. The analysis revealed that Brazil with highest percentage of research spend has lowest Field Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI). This contrasts with Uruguay, whose FWCI is high despite comparatively lower spend on R&D and lower publication output. Although Argentina has the highest percentage of researchers per million population (1202), it has the least papers per researchers (0.3 per year) among the countries studied. A huge disparity in terms of percentage of research spent, research output, papers per researcher, and output with national and international co-authorship was observed.

      BACKGROUND: The development of cancer is thought to involve the dynamic crosstalk between the tumor cells and the microenvironment they inhabit. Such crosstalk is thought to involve mechanotransduction, a process whereby the cells sense mechanical cues such as stiffness, and translate these into biochemical signals, which have an impact on the subsequent cellular activities. Bibliometric analysis is a statistical method that involves investigating different aspects (including authors' names and affiliations, article keywords, journals and citations) of large volumes of literature. Despite an increase in mechanotransduction-related research in recent years, there are currently no bibliometric studies that describe the global status and trends of mechanotransduction-related research in the cancer field.AIM: To investigate the global research status and trends of mechanotransduction in cancer from a bibliometric viewpoint.
    METHODS: Literature on mechanotransduction in cancer published from January 1, 1900 to December 31, 2022 was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. Excel and GraphPad software carried out the statistical analysis of the relevant author, journal, organization, and country information. The co-authorship, keyword co-occurrence, and keyword burst analysis were visualized with VOSviewer and CiteSpace.
    RESULTS: Of 597 publications from 745 institutions in 45 countries were published in 268 journals with 35510 citation times. With 270 articles, the United States is a well-established global leader in this field, and the University of California system, the most productive (n = 36) and influential institution (n = 4705 citations), is the most highly active in collaborating with other organizations. Cancers was the most frequent publisher with the highest H-index. The most productive researcher was Valerie M. Weaver, with 10 publications. The combined analysis of concurrent and burst keywords revealed that the future research hotspots of mechanotransduction in cancer were related to the plasma membrane, autophagy, piezo1/2, heterogeneity, cancer diagnosis, and post-transcriptional modifications.
    CONCLUSION: Mechanotransduction-related cancer research remains a hot topic. The United States is in the leading position of global research on mechano-oncology after almost 30 years of investigations. Research group cooperations exist but remain largely domestic, lacking cross-national communications. The next big topic in this field is to explore how the plasma membrane and its localized mechanosensor can transduce mechanical force through post-transcriptional modifications and thereby participate in cellular activity regulations and cancer development.

      Background: The intestinal microbiota (IM) has been found to contribute to metabolic disorders that lead to excessive fat accumulation, systemic and chronic low-grade inflammation, and insulin resistance in the host. Current research highlights a pivotal interaction between IM and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in mitigating obesity-related diseases. Undeniably, IM stands as a central focus in TCM research aimed at preventing and treating obesity. Therefore, tracing the progress and trends in this field can offer valuable references and insights for future studies.Methods: On June 17, 2023, we conducted a literature search on the topic of "IM and obesity in TCM" spanning the period from 2009 to 2023. We extracted the primary information of the publications, which includes complete records and reference citations, from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E) within the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). To visualize and analyze the literature, we utilized CiteSpace and VOSviewer for bibliometric analysis.
    Results: During the past fifteen years, a rapid increase in the number of publications has been observed. The cooperative networks demonstrate China, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, and Food & Function as the most active countries, organizations, and journals in this field, respectively. Liu Bin has contributed the most publications. A paper by Xu Jia, published in 2014, holds the highest Local Citation Score (LCS). Analyses of keyword co-occurrence and reference co-citation indicate that the research hotspots of IM and obesity in TCM are primarily focused on the metabolic benefits driven by endogenous functional metabolic molecules generated by TCM regulation of IM. Other focal points include the mechanism by which TCM regulates IM to restore the intestinal mucosal barrier This is a provisional file, not the final typeset article, and manages the gut-organ axis, the metabolic advantages of acupuncture's regulation of IM, and the process by which Chinese medicine small molecules transform IM.
    Conclusion: This research offers a comprehensive understanding of the current status, hotspots, and trends in global TCM research. Additionally, it provides a comprehensive summary and exploration of the latest advancements in this field, thereby emphasizing the essence of TCM more effectively.

      BACKGROUND: Cyclin-dependent Kinase Subunit 2 is a protein closely related to the regulation of the cell cycle. In recent years, there has been an increasing number of research articles on this topic. However, there is a lack of comprehensive synthesis and evaluation in the field of CKS2 research. This study aims to summarize and visualize the literature distribution, research hotspots, and development trends of CKS2 based on bibliometric methods.METHODS: Publications from 1999 to 2022 were extracted from the Web of Science. Citespace was used to analyze the relevant information of each article.
    RESULTS: A total of 138 publications focused on CKS2 showed a positive growth trend from 1999 to 2022 and were published by 27 countries. The most prolific countries are China and the USA. The most prolific institution is Scripps Research Institute. The most prolific author is Steven I. Reed from Scripps Research Institute. The most cited article is published by Todd R Golub. The most cited author is Hanna-Stina Martinsson-Ahlzen. The journal with the most published articles is International Journal of Oncology. The high frequency keywords suggest that expression and function of CKS2 in cancer are dominated topics. The clusters and burst words suggest that expression and function of CKS2 still active in the future.
    CONCLUSION SUBSECTIONS: The results of this bibliometric analysis provide information on the state and trends in CKS2 from 1999 to 2022. It is helpful for scholars to pinpoint hot issues and discover new areas of study.

      BACKGROUND: Acupuncture role in stroke treatment and post-stroke rehabilitation has garnered significant attention. However, there is a noticeable gap in bibliometric studies on this topic. Additionally, the precision and comprehensive methodology of cluster analysis remain underexplored. This research sought to introduce an innovative cluster analysis technique (called follower-leading clustering algorithm, FLCA) to evaluate global publications and trends related to acupuncture for stroke in the recent decade.METHODS: Publications pertaining to acupuncture for stroke from 2013 to 2022 were sourced from the Web of Science Core Collection. For the assessment of publication attributes-including contributing countries/regions (e.g., US states, provinces, and major cities in China) in comparison to others, institutions, departments, authors, journals, and keywords-we employed bibliometric visualization tools combined with the FLCA algorithm. The analysis findings, inclusive of present research status, prospective trends, and 3 influential articles, were presented through bibliometrics with visualizations.
    RESULTS: We identified 1050 publications from 92 countries/regions. An initial gradual rise in publication numbers was observed until 2019, marking a pivotal juncture. Prominent contributors in research, based on criteria such as regions, institutions, departments, and authors, were Beijing (China), Beijing Univ Chinese Med (China), the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, and Lidian Chen (Fujian). The journal "Evid.-based Complement Altern" emerged as the most productive. The FLCA algorithm was effectively employed for co-word and author collaboration analyses. Furthermore, we detail the prevailing research status, anticipated trends, and 3 standout articles via bibliometrics.
    CONCLUSION: Acupuncture for stroke presents a vast research avenue. It is imperative for scholars from various global regions and institutions to transcend academic boundaries to foster dialogue and cooperation. For forthcoming bibliometric investigations, the application of the FLCA algorithm for cluster analysis is advocated.

      Objective: Thromboangiitis obliterans (TAO) is a segmental nonatherosclerotic inflammatory vascular disease characterized by recurrent progressive inflammatory reactions and thrombosis in the small and medium-sized arteries and veins of the extremities. However, there are few bibliometric studies on TAO. Therefore, this study was employed to generalize the research status, hotspots and development trends of TAO-related research.Methods: The data from 1999 to 2022 were collected from the Web of Science core collection database, and analyzed through bibliometrics software. VOSviewer was utilized to carry out academic collaboration between different countries/regions, institutions, and authors, visualization map of co-cited authors, journals, reference, and co-occurring keywords. CiteSpace was used to analyze the dual-map of journals, keyword bursts, and timeline of keywords. Bar and pie charts in this study were statistically analyzed and graphed through Microsoft Excel 2021. Scimago Graphica was applied to map the academic collaboration between different countries/regions.
    Results: A total of 553 literatures were involved in this study. Japan at the leading global position not only in the number of publications, but also total citations, average citations and H-index. Institution with the major contribution to TAO research is Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, and Nagoya University. Annals of Vascular Surgery, Angiology, Journal of Vascular Surgery are the main publication channel for articles related to TAO. Fazeli, B., Iwai, T., and Kihara, Y. are major contributors in this field. The studies on TAO keywords could be grouped into four clusters: Etiology, Mechanism, Cell therapy and Clinical therapy.
    Conclusion: Although the number of TAO publications has fluctuated over the past 20 years, it has generally shown a steady upward trend. Etiology and treatment research on TAO and some keywords such as trail, therapy, outcome, management, stem cells, angioplasty, and activation will become a hot spot in the future.

      BACKGROUND: Little is known about the quality and impact of Canadian-produced research relative to that of other developed nations. The purpose of this study was to determine the contribution of Canadian authors to the orthopedic literature globally and nationally as well as Canada's research productivity in orthopedics. We hypothesized that Canada ranks among the most impactful countries in terms of orthopedic research productivity.METHODS: We performed a bibliometric analysis to identify articles published between 2001 and 2020 in the category of orthopedics. We identified Canada's global rank in terms of overall productivity and assessed the contributions of individual Canadian authors. We also examined the quality of publications as determined by category normalized citation impact (CNCI) and publication in the top quartile of journals (%Q1) in terms of impact factor. In addition, we calculated the percentage of Canadian publications that were in orthopedics.
    RESULTS: We identified 10 821 orthopedic publications from 2001 to 2020. Canada placed sixth globally in terms of productivity in orthopedic research. The annual productivity of Canadian orthopedic researchers increased over the study period by a factor of 3.2. In terms of research quality, with a %Q1 of 36.5% and a CNCI of 1.22, Canada outperformed Asian countries and the United States; the latter country had a %Q1 of 35.3% and a CNCI of 1.14 over the study period.
    CONCLUSION: The body of Canadian orthopedic literature has grown consistently over the past 20 years. Despite the overall leadership of the United States and other developed nations such as China and Japan, Canada ranks among the most influential countries in terms of the quality and quantity of orthopedic research.

      Retinal organoid (RO) is the three-dimensional (3D) retinal culture derived from pluripotent or embryonic stem cells which recapitulates organ functions, which was a revolutionary milestone in stem cell technology. The purpose of this study is to explore the hotspots and future directions on ROs, as well as to better understand the fields of greatest research opportunities. Eligible publications related to RO from 2011 to 2022 were acquired from the Web of Science (WoS) Core Collection database. Bibliometric analysis was performed by using software including VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and ArcGIS. A total of 520 articles were included, and the number of annual publications showed a rapid increase with an average rate of 40.86%. The United States published the most articles (241/520, 46.35%) with highest total citation frequencies (5,344). University College London (UK) contributed the largest publication output (40/520, 7.69%) and received highest total citation frequencies. Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science was the most productive journal with 129 articles. Majlinda Lako contributed the most research with 32 articles, while Olivier Goureau has the strongest collaboration work. Research could be subdivided into four keyword clusters: "culture and differentiation," "morphogenesis and modeling," "gene therapy," and "transplantation and visual restoration," and evolution of keywords was identified. Last decade has witnessed the huge progress in the field of RO, which is a young and promising research area with extensive and in-depth studies. More attention should be paid to RO-related models and therapies based on specific retinal diseases, especially inherited retinopathies.

      BACKGROUND: Telerehabilitation offers a novel approach supplementing or replacing traditional physical rehabilitation. While research on telerehabilitation for joint replacement (TJR) has expanded, no study has investigated the top 100 cited articles (T100TJR) using the descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics (DDPP) model. This study aims to examine the features of T100TJR in TJR through the DDPP approaches.METHODS: A comprehensive search of the Web of Science Core Collection was conducted to locate all pertinent English-language documents from the database's inception until August 2, 2023. The T100TJR articles were then identified based on citation counts. The DDPP analytics model, along with 7 visualization techniques, was used to analyze metadata elements such as countries, institutions, journals, authors, references, and keywords. An impact timeline view was employed to highlight 2 particularly noteworthy articles.
    RESULTS: We analyzed 712 articles and observed a consistent upward trend in publications, culminating in a noticeable peak in 2022. The United States stood out as the primary contributor. A detailed examination of the top 100 articles (T100TJR) revealed the following leading contributors since 2010: the United States (by country), University of Sherbrooke, Canada (by institutions), 2017 (by publication year), and Dr Hawker from Canada (by authors). We delineated 4 major themes within these articles. The theme "replacement" dominated, featuring in 89% of them. There was a strong correlation between the citations an article garnered and its keyword prominence (F = 3030.37; P < .0001). Additionally, 2 particularly high-impact articles were underscored for recommendation.
    CONCLUSIONS: Telerehabilitation for TJR has seen rising interest, with the U.S. leading contributions. The study highlighted dominant themes, especially "replacement," in top-cited articles. The significant correlation between article citations and keyword importance indicates the criticality of keyword selection. The research underscores the importance of 2 pivotal articles, recommending them for deeper insights.

      Objective: The relationship between acupoint sensitization and acupoint specificity is a topic of significant interest in acupuncture research. Numerous clinical studies have demonstrated that needling pain sensitive acupoints yields superior therapeutic outcomes compared to traditional acupoints, particularly in the context of pain disorders. However, there is a lack of bibliometric analysis in acupuncture area. Therefore, the objective of this study is to offer a comprehensive overview of the knowledge structure and research hotspots pertaining to acupoint sensitization and acupoint specificity.Methods: The search for publications pertaining to acupoint sensitization and acupoint specificity was conducted in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database from its inception until August 11, 2023. Subsequently, bibliometric analyses were carried out using VOSviewer, CiteSpace, R software (Bibliometrix package), and GraphPad Prism software.
    Results: This study includes 4,940 articles from 72 countries, with China and the United States being the leading countries. The number of publications related to acupoint sensitization and specificity has been increasing annually. Major research institutions involved in this field include the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Kyung Hee University, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Chinese Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, and China Medical University, among others. "Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine" is the most popular journal in acupuncture field, and "PAIN" is the most co-cited journal. Publications are contributed by 20,325 authors from all over the world, with Wu Huangan, Fang Jianqiao, Lin Yi-Wen, Liu Huirong, and Chen Rixin having published the most articles. Han Ji-Sheng is the most cited author in this research area. The main directions include the study of temperature specificity of acupoints, the diagnosis of acupoint sensitization diseases, and the study of the mechanism of acupoint sensitization. The most listed keywords in recent years are "TRPV1," "signaling pathway," and "diagnosis."
    Conclusion: This is the first bibliometric study to comprehensively summarize research trends and advances in acupoint sensitization and acupoint specificity, and the information highlights recent research preliminary and main directions that serve as a reference for acupoint sensitization and acupoint specificity research.

      Background: Acupuncture is considered an important means of analgesic, which has been widely used in chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS) management and treatment in recent years, published a large number of related documents. However, the relevant literature in this field has not been summarized and quantitatively analyzed. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the hotspots and predicting future research trends of acupuncture on pelvic pain syndrome.Methods: Search for the relevant publications of the web of science database from 2000 to 2022 about the treatment of acupuncture on chronic pelvic pain syndrome. The Citespace software and VosViewer software are used to analyze the visualization of the countries, institutions, authors, keywords and references and references in the literature.
    Results: A total of 173 publications were included. The annual number of essays gradually showed an overall growth trend over time. Medicine magazine is the most published journal in this field. J UROLOGY and Acupunct Med are the most cited journals and the most influential magazines; The most active and influential country is China, and the most produced institutions are Beijing University of Chinese Medicine; The most produced authors are Liu Zhishun. The most cited and most influential authors are Nickel JC and Armour M; keywords and cited reference analysis show that the quality of life, mechanism research, alternative medicine and electro-acupuncture will be the scientific hotspot of acupuncture treatment for chronic pelvic pain syndrome.
    Conclusion: This study shows that acupuncture on CPPS is increasingly valued and recognized. The future research hotspots will focus on the effects and mechanisms. In the future, more high-quality animal basic research will be required to explore the exact mechanism of acupuncture on CPPS. In addition, different parameters of acupuncture such as electric-acupuncture, stimulating frequency, duration and strength are also the focus of future research. More clinical trials are required to verify its safety and effectiveness.

      The Learning Cycle Model (LCM) is an inquiry-based teaching strategy and curriculum model that has been researched and practiced for almost half a century and has achieved good educational results in science education, especially in primary and secondary schools. This study collected LCM educational research data to better understand the recent progress of LCM educational research. It used the bibliometric analysis software CiteSpace for the first time to sort out the overall development of LCM. Compared to other literature review methods, we obtained a more comprehensive picture of the current research hotspots and future research trends in LCM research. First, we searched 498 articles from the Web of Science core collection between 2000 and May 16, 2023. The trajectory of LCM research was identified by analyzing publication trends, authors, countries/regions, and research institutions. Secondly, we obtained the keyword co-occurrence map and clustering map through CiteSpace's built-in algorithm to analyze the main areas and research frontiers of this study. Meanwhile, the development trend is shown by co-keyword burst detection. After analysis, this study found that the current research hotspot findings focus on conceptual learning, validity research, and integration with different teaching processes. The research frontiers are mainly related to teacher professional development and research on the impact of LCM on learning outcomes. Finally, this study discusses future research directions, including research on the impact of LCM on 21st century skills, comparison with other modes of inquiry teaching and learning, and its use in engineering education, to promote better development of LCM.

      OBJECTIVE: To provide a bibliometric analysis of published articles of interventional SCI clinical trials and present the current status, global trends, and scholars' knowledge in this field.METHODS: Data were obtained from the PubMed and Web of Science (WOS) Core Collection. A literature screening process was conducted to select articles of interventional SCI clinical trials. Qualitative and quantitative analysis was performed based on information from the WOS database. Co-occurrence analysis of keywords, collaboration analysis, and co-citation analysis were performed using VOSviewer.
    RESULTS: A total of 849 articles were selected for analysis. Therapeutic strategies in the articles were classified into ten subgroups. Locomotor training, local complication related treatments, and neuromodulation are the top three subgroups. Spinal Cord was the most productive and most frequently cited journal in SCI clinical trials. The most productive country, institution, and author are the United States of America, the University of Miami, and Harvey LA, respectively. The collaboration network analysis shows that researchers and institutions from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia were the pivotal driving forces in this field. Spinal cord injury, rehabilitation, individuals, electrical stimulation, and exercise are the top 5 most frequent keywords. The co-citation analysis shows that the most frequently cited references are all international standards and guidelines of SCI clinical trials.
    CONCLUSIONS: There is a broad research collaboration network although it is distributed unevenly worldwide. International standards and guidelines are needed to conduct high quality clinical trials in the future.

      This study examined the hypothesis that the network of citation in biomechanics journals would change over the last decade and specifically the centrality of the journal Sports Biomechanics. Top 20 cited biomechanics journals identified using the 'Journal Citation Relationships' feature from Journal Citation Reports were extracted for 12 'seed' biomechanics journals in 2011, 2016, and 2021. From 2011 till 2021 the total number of top cited biomechanics journals in Journal Citation Reports decreased (17%) from 90 to 74, while the citations to these journals nearly increased 5-fold (8,051 to 39,574). Top Journal Citation Reports cited biomechanics journals changed over time, indicating variability in the centrality of many journals in the biomechanics citation network based on this prestigious database. Over time there were decreasing citation of medical journals, as well as increasing citation of open access mega journals and the journal Sports Biomechanics. Citation network analysis provides insight into the changing structure of knowledge creation in biomechanics, with recent trends towards applied research particularly on wearable sensors published in mega journals.

      Identifying the gaps in scientific production in a topic allows directing research in order to make better public investment decisions. Bibliometric data on osteoporosis in Latin America are very limited and unclear and, given the impact of this disease in this region, it is relevant to analyze the latest trends in the subject. The study approach was quantitative, observational-descriptive, cross-sectional. Data were collected from journals indexed in Scopus between 1990 and 2019, using a search strategy that included Medical Subject Headings terms for "Osteoporosis" and other related terms, as well as VOSviewer software to create cooperative and co-occurrence word maps. 3261 documents were analyzed, with an annual scientific production rate of 5% (163 documents), where 73.9% were original articles. The countries with the highest scientific production in osteoporosis were Brazil (55.2%) and Argentina (18%). Extra-regional cooperation was mainly with the United States (16.35%) and Spain (5.18%). Six of the 10 most productive countries had their own government agencies as the main funders. The National Council for Scientific and Technological Development was the institution that funded the most (n = 194). The term "osteoporosis" together with the terms "bone mineral density," "fractures," and "menopause" were the most frequently addressed subjects. Latin American scientific production in osteoporosis has shown a significant increase. However, in the last 3 years it has shown a slight reduction. Greater intraregional collaboration involving universities, institutions and health societies is needed.

      INTRODUCTION: Critical care nephrology is a subspecialty that merges critical care and nephrology in response to shared pathobiology, clinical care, and technological innovations. To date, there has been no description of the highest impact articles. Accordingly, we systematically identified high impact articles in critical care nephrology.METHODS: This was a bibliometric analysis. The search was developed by a research librarian. Web of Science was searched for articles published between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2020. Articles required a minimum of 30 citations, publication in English-language, and reporting of primary (or secondary) original data. Articles were screened by two reviewers for eligibility and further adjudicated by three experts. The "Top 100" articles were hierarchically ranked by adjudication, citations in the 2 years following publication and journal Impact Factor (IF). For each article, we extracted detailed bibliometric data. Risk of bias was assessed for randomized trials by the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool. Analyses were descriptive.
    RESULTS: The search yielded 2,805 articles. Following initial screening, 307 articles were selected for full review and adjudication. The Top 100 articles were published across 20 journals (median [IQR] IF 10.6 [8.9-56.3]), 38% were published in the 5 years ending in 2020 and 62% were open access. The agreement between adjudicators was excellent (intra-class correlation, 0.96; 95%CI, 0.84-0.99). Of the Top 100, 44% were randomized trials, 35% were observational, 14% were systematic reviews, 6% were non-randomized interventional studies and one article was a consensus document. The risk of bias among randomized trials was low. Common subgroup themes were RRT (42%), AKI (30%), fluids/resuscitation (14%), pediatrics (10%), interventions (8%) and peri-operative care (6%). The citations for the Top 100 articles were 175 (95-393) and 9 were cited >1,000 times.
    CONCLUSION: Critical care nephrology has matured as an important subspecialty of critical care and nephrology. These high impact papers have focused largely on original studies, mostly clinical trials, within a few core themes. This list can be leveraged for curricula development, to stimulate research, and for quality assurance.

      Background: Scientific progress in the field of knee and hip arthroplasty has enabled the preservation of mobility and quality of life in the case of patients with many primary degenerative and (post-) traumatic joint diseases. This comparative study aims to investigate differences in scientific performance between the leading continents in the field of hip and knee arthroplasty.Methods: Using specific search terms all studies published by the scientific leading continents Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania listed in the Web of Science databases were included. All identified publications were analysed and comparative conclusions were drawn regarding the qualitative and quantitative scientific merit of each continent.
    Results: Europe, followed by North America, Asia, and Oceania, had the highest overall number of publications in the field of arthroplasty. Since 2000, there has been a strong increase in knee arthroplasty publication rate, particular pronounced in Asia. Studies performed and published in North America and those on knee arthroplasty received the highest number of fundings. Publications regarding hip arthroplasty achieved the highest average citation rate. In contradistinction to the others, in North America most funding was provided by private agencies.
    Conclusion: Although Europe showed the highest total number of publications, authors and institutions, arthroplasty research from North America received greater scientific attention and financial support. Measured by citations, publications on hip arthroplasty attained higher scientific interest and studies on knee arthroplasty received higher economic affection.

      There has been an increase in the life expectancy of people worldwide, especially in developing countries like India. Osteoarthritis, a condition that usually onsets during later decades of life, has also been on the rise, even with advancing technology. This has led osteoarthritis of the knee to become a global disabling condition of the lower extremity that increases dependency on the affected individual. A bibliometric study has not been conducted on knee osteoarthritis research. Therefore, a bibliometric analysis which includes statistical analysis of recent articles, books, and other forms of publications is done for evaluation of scientific output and to find the importance of scientific studies in terms of quality as well as quantity. The aim of this analysis was to evaluate the productivity of research articles indexed in PubMed related to the condition. The PubMed database was used and articles related to osteoarthritis of the knee, phonophoresis, and start excursion balance test were extracted. In the bib text format, all the files were downloaded and placed together. The R studio software (R Foundation for Statistical Computing, Vienna, Austria) for bibliometric analysis was then used, into which the research data was uploaded and a data framework of bibliometric analysis was made. Analysis of bibliometric publications related to knee osteoarthritis, phonophoresis, Otago exercises, star excursion balance test, ultrasound, and exercise therapy generated between 1989 and 2021 lists a total of 120 relevant documents from 75 sources with an average of 4.53 articles per year of publication. The use of an advanced PubMed database enables the extraction of adequate articles and powerful bibliometric analysis of the studies conducted on osteoarthritis of the knee published from 1989 to 2021. It includes an assessment of the contributions from major countries. This study allowed us to validate our methodology which can be used to evaluate research policies and promote international collaboration.

      PURPOSE: Patellofemoral arthroplasty (PFA) was shown to be a potentially effective surgical technique for isolated patellofemoral osteoarthritis but varying reports on PFA-related implant failure and complications have rendered the procedure controversial. This study aimed to identify impactful publications, research interests/efforts, and collaborative networks in the field of PFA research.METHODS: The study used the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database, Medline, Springer, BIOSIS Citation Index, and PubMed to retrieve relevant publications on PFA research published between 1950-2022. Statistical tests in R software were used for analysis while VOSviewer, Bibliometrix, and CiteSpace were employed for data visualization.
    RESULTS: Two hundred forty-one articles were analyzed with the number of published papers increasing over time. Knee was the most frequent journal and Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research was the most cited journal. Clinical outcomes, such as prosthesis survival, revision, and complications, were researched most frequently as demonstrated by keyword analysis. The United States was the top contributor to cooperative networks, followed by the United Kingdom while Technical University Munich formed close ties among authors.
    CONCLUSION: Publications on PFA research have witnessed a notable surge. They primarily came from a limited number of centers and were characterized by low-level evidence. The majority of studies primarily focused on the clinical outcomes of PFA, while revision of PFA and patient satisfaction have emerged as new research areas.

      Male hypogonadism can seriously affect male health and fertility, yet comprehensive bibliometric and visualization analyses of research in this area have been lacking. This study aimed to examine the distribution of literature, identify research hotspots, and discern development trends in male hypogonadism by analyzing 4026 English documents published between 2000 and 2023 using bibliometric and visual analyses. The results indicated a significant increase in publications and citations related to male hypogonadism over the past two decades, with the United States, the University of Florence, Maggi M, and the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism recognized as the most productive and highly cited country, institution, author, and journal, respectively. The article titled "The GPR54 gene as a regulator of puberty" received the highest number of citations. The keywords were categorized into four distinct clusters, including the etiology and pathogenesis of male hypogonadism, symptoms of late-onset hypogonadism, testosterone replacement therapy and its contraindications, the correlation between male hypogonadism and metabolic syndrome (MetS), obesity, and the epidemiology of male hypogonadism. The most frequently co-occurring keywords were "hypogonadism", "testosterone", and "men", while "oxidative stress" was the most prominent burst keyword. The analysis also identified "male infertility" and "oxidative stress" as the primary burst keywords in the last five years, indicating their emerging high-interest topics.       Background: Both migraine and stroke heavily burden individuals, health systems, and society. The migraine-stroke association is of concern and has been studied widely. Our objective is to explore and overview the current research status and emerging trends.Materials and Methods: Studies on migraine-stroke association from January 2013 to May 2023 were retrieved and screened from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database. Records fulfilling the selection criteria were downloaded and imported into CiteSpace for data mining and visualization.
    Results: A total of 862 papers on migraine-stroke association were included. Annual publications grew slowly. The United States and European countries dominated research in this area. Harvard University published the largest number of articles, while the University of London was most active with other institutions. Ayata Cenk contributed the most articles, while KURTH T and NEUROLOGY were co-cited most. Research hotspots included migraine with aura, ischemic stroke, patent foramen ovale, cortical spreading depolarization, meta-analysis, cross-sectional study, and risk factors. Pathophysiology and small vessel disease represented research frontiers and emerging trends.
    Conclusion: Our study scientifically outlines the migraine-stroke association over the past decade, presenting useful information.

      BACKGROUND: The connection between academic career advancement and publishing research articles is important, as it can impact promotion and compensation decisions. Gender bias in academic publishing is a known issue, with studies showing low numbers in key roles in female representation. This article aims to analyze the ratio of women to men as first and last authors in the Regional Anesthesia & Pain Medicine (RAPM) journal and explore other factors such as the mentorship effect and representation in regional anesthesia associations.MAIN BODY: We examined the RAPM articles from 1976 to 2023 evaluating the gender of first and last authors. We analyzed the trend over the years and also analyze the subset of original articles. A further analysis was conducted to analyze the relationship between the first and last author's gender. Additionally, regional anesthesia societies were contacted to gather data on the gender of their members. We included 5650 articles; most of them were first authored by men (72.9-87.7%). There was a positive trend over time for female first authorship but not for last authorship. The analysis also revealed a mentorship effect in recent years for both overall articles and the subgroup of original articles.     CONCLUSIONS: Our findings raise important questions about gender bias in academic publishing highlighting the need for increased representation and opportunities for women in the field of regional anesthesia.

      Background: Abnormal cardiac metabolism is a key factor in the development of cardiovascular diseases. Consequently, there has been considerable emphasis on researching and developing drugs that regulate metabolism. This study employed bibliometric methods to comprehensively and objectively analyze the relevant literature, offering insights into the knowledge dynamics in this field.Methods: The data source for this study was the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC), from which the collected data were imported into bibliometric software for analysis.
    Results: The United States was the leading contributor, accounting for 38.33 % of publications. The University of Washington and Damian J. Tyler were the most active institution and author, respectively. The American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology, Cardiovascular Research, Circulation Research, and American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism were highly influential journals that published numerous high-quality articles on cardiac metabolism. Common keywords in this research area included heart failure, insulin resistance, skeletal muscle, mitochondria, as well as topic words such as cardiac metabolism, fatty acid oxidation, glucose metabolism, and myocardial metabolism. Co-citation analysis has shown that research on heart failure and in vitro modeling of cardiovascular disease has gained prominence in recent years and making it a research hotspot.
    Conclusion: Research on cardiac metabolism is steadily growing, with a specific focus on heart failure and the interplay between mitochondrial dysfunction, insulin resistance, and cardiac metabolism. An emerging trend in this field involves the enhancement of maturation in human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocyte (hiPSC-CM) through the manipulation of cardiac metabolism.

      Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) infection is a crucial element in chronic gastritis progression towards precancerous lesions of gastric cancer (PLGC) formation and, potentially, gastric cancer; however, screening for and eliminating H pylori has several challenges. This study aimed to assess the present research status, prominent themes, and frontiers of H pylori-related PLGC and to provide impartial evaluations of the developmental trends in this domain. This study extracted articles and review papers concerning H pylori-related PLGC published from 2013 to 2023 from the Web of Science Core Collection. The data was analyzed and visualized using VOSviewer and CiteSpace. The study encompassed 1426 papers, with a discernible upward trend in publications between 2013 and 2023. China emerged as the most productive country, whereas the United States exerted the greatest influence. Baylor College of Medicine was the most prolific institution. World Journal of Gastroenterology featured the highest number of published papers, whereas Gastroenterology was the most frequently cited journal. Kim N. from South Korea was the most prolific author. Co-cited literature pertained to various aspects such as gastritis classification, H pylori infection management, gastric cancer prevention, and managing patients with PLGC. Future research will focus on the Kyoto classification, cancer incidence, and gastric intestinal metaplasia. The results of this study indicate a persistent increase in attention directed toward H pylori-associated PLGC. The research emphasis has transitioned from molecular mechanisms, epidemiology, monitoring, and diagnosis to clinical prevention and treatment methodologies. The forthcoming research direction in this area will concentrate on controlling and preventing malignant PLGC transformation.

      Scientometrics enables us to comprehend the interests and trends in scientific knowledge production and dissemination. In this study, we evaluate the effects of gender, academic experience, location of residence, and graduate program score on the quantity of published articles, the number of citations and the H-index of researchers belonging to Brazilian graduate programs in Biodiversity. Variables related to the researchers were measured, and the relevance in explaining scientific production was examined using hierarchical models. In graduate programs, there were more men than females. The number of articles as first author and the H-index increase progressively through the researchers' career, while the number of citations increases at the beginning of their careers, stabilizing between 10 and 20 years, and increasing again after 30 years of career. We concluded that gender, academic experience, and graduate program score were the most important variables in explaining the scientific production of graduate programs in Biodiversity in Brazil.

      Human resource management (HRM) in healthcare is an important component in relation to the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery. However, a comprehensive overview is lacking to assess and track the current status and trends of HRM research in healthcare. This study aims to describe the current situation and global trends in HRM research in healthcare as well as to indicate the frontiers and future directions of research. The research methodology is based on bibliometric mapping using scientific visualization software (VOSviewer). The data were collected from the Web of Science(WoS) core citation database. After applying the search criteria, we retrieved 833 publications, which have steadily increased over the last 30 years. In addition, 93 countries and regions have published relevant research. The United States and Australia have made significant contributions in this area. Current research articles focus on topics clustered into performance, hospital/COVID-19, job satisfaction, human resource management, occupational/mental health, and quality of care. The most frequently co-occurring keywords are human resource management, job satisfaction, nurses, hospitals, health services, quality of care, COVID-19, and nursing. There is limited research on compensation management and employee relations management, so the current HRM research field still has not been able to present a complete and systematic roadmap. We propose that our colleagues should consider focusing on these research gaps in the future.

      The journal impact factor (JIF) is a skewed metrics whose value is dictated by just a few highly cited articles. Therefore, the use of the JIF to evaluate journals, scholars, or research institutes is flawed. Still, the JIF continues to play a central role in evaluating scholarship in chemistry, the most reluctant amid scientific disciplines to embrace the principles of open science. This study investigates the origins of this social behavior, and suggests avenues to improve scholarly communication in the chemical sciences following the example of the life sciences.

      Business journalists and editors of academic business journals have lamented that academic research has little use for any nonacademic stakeholders, including companies, nonprofits, regulators, and governments. Although emotionally unsettling, these commentaries are bereft of evidence on how well a journal's academic impact (measured by impact factor) translates into practice impact. The authors provide this evidence. Specifically, they sample 56 journals, spanning 12 business disciplines, from 2000 to 2020. For each journal-year, they measure two- and five-year impact factor, which proxies the impact on academics. Next, for each article published in each journal-year, they collect attention score-a weighted sum of the number of times the article is cited in 19 types of practitioner outlets-from Altmetric. The authors then measure the correlation coefficient between the impact factor and attention score for each journal in periods of two-year and five-year. The coefficient indicates how well the journal's academic impact has translated into practice impact. Among the 12 disciplines, international business discipline tops the chart, while information systems, accounting, and finance occupy the bottom positions. American Economic Review leads the 56 journals, with Journal of Marketing Research and California Management Review as close followers. The findings highlight the impact of academic business research-or the lack thereof.

      BACKGROUND: Sexual violence (SV) is a serious public health problem affecting millions of people each year. The main aim of this article is to provide a large-scale snapshot of the field of knowledge in SV research using a scientometric approach.METHODS: Documents were retrieved from the Web of Science database. Then, a scientometric study was carried out on a sample of 65,610 documents. Co-citation and co-occurrence measures have been calculated and related networks have been drawn using Citespace and Biblioshiny software.
    RESULTS: The main findings indicate that research in SV has increased significantly in recent years. On the other hand, the publication of about one-third of these documents by a single author is due to the special nature of this topic and its taboo in many societies. In addition, a large number of multimedia documents demonstrate the role and importance of multimedia resources in SV studies. Despite the attention to SV research by poor or developing countries to research in the field of SV, 95% of the documents have been published by 20 developed countries. Additionally, the general research approach has changed from criminology to psychology.
    CONCLUSIONS: Therefore, it seems that the discussion of psychological disorders in the occurrence of sexual violence reveals a new approach to SV. The concepts related to SV have been linked to broader areas than in the past. This, along with emphasizing prevention topics in the long term, will increase awareness of SV and reduce the possibility of abuse of vulnerable people.

      Background: Culinary medicine (CM), an emerging discipline, is a novel approach that focuses on the art of food and cooking to prevent or improve health outcomes among chronic patients suffering from lifestyle diseases. The concept originated in the USA, gaining interest from scholars in medicine, nutrition, nursing, and the gastronomic discipline. Notably, in the last five years, there has been exponential growth in CM literature. In this regard, this study sought to examine the growth, performance and distinct research themes of CM literature over time. Methods: To achieve the study's objectives, this study employs descriptive, performance and bibliometric analysis. The descriptive analysis was applied to examine the growth of the CM literature since its emergence. The performance analysis was used to identify the most influential journals, articles, and authors in the CM domain. The bibliographic coupling analysis was adopted to discover the various research themes of the CM knowledge base. Results: This study identifies three stages of literature development: Early stage, modest growth stage, and emerging stage. Further, the results indicate that most of the studies on CM had been conducted in developed countries. Our findings reveal a clear interest in integrating the CM curriculum into medical/nutrition education programs in recent years. Additionally, the study discovers four distinct main research themes: knowledge assessment, impact measurement, acceptance and efficacy, and implementation of CM. Conclusions: These findings are helpful for scholars in medicine, nutrition, nursing, and gastronomy as they provide an overview of CM's development and research focus. Future studies could focus on expanding the geographical distribution of research on CM and further exploring the identified research themes to gain a deeper understanding of the potential of this approach for improving health outcomes among chronic disease patients.

      Materials science research has garnered extensive attention from industry, society, policy, and academia. However, understanding the research landscape and extracting strategic insights are challenging due to the increasing diversity and volume of publications. This study proposes a natural language processing-based protocol for extracting text-encoded topics from a large volume of scientific literature, uncovering research interests of scientific communities, as well as convergence trends. We report a topic map, representing the materials science research landscape with text-mined 257 topics regarding biocompatible materials, structural materials, electrochemistry, or photonics. We analyze the topic map in terms of national research interests in materials science, revealing competitive positions and strategies of active nations. For example, it is found that the increasing trend of research interest in machine learning topic was captured in the United States earlier than other nations. Similarly, our journal-level analyses serve as reference information for journal recommendations and trend guidance, showing that the main topics and research interests of materials science journals slightly changed over time. Moreover, we build the topic association network which can highlight the status and future potential of interdisciplinary research, revealing research fields with high centrality in the network such as machine learning-enabled composite modeling, energy policy, or wearable electronics. This study offers insightful results on current and near-future materials science research landscapes, facilitating the understanding of stakeholders, amidst the fast-evolving and diverse knowledge of materials science.

      Gait is an important basic function of human beings and an integral part of life. Many mental and physical abnormalities can cause noticeable differences in a person's gait. Abnormal gait can lead to serious consequences such as falls, limited mobility and reduced life satisfaction. Gait analysis, which includes joint kinematics, kinetics, and dynamic Electromyography (EMG) data, is now recognized as a clinically useful tool that can provide both quantifiable and qualitative information on performance to aid in treatment planning and evaluate its outcome. With the assistance of new artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the traditional medical environment has undergone great changes. AI has the potential to reshape medicine, making gait analysis more accurate, efficient and accessible. In this study, we analyzed basic information about gait analysis and AI articles that met inclusion criteria in the WoS Core Collection database from 1992-2022, and the VosViewer software was used for web visualization and keyword analysis. Through bibliometric and visual analysis, this article systematically introduces the research status of gait analysis and AI. We introduce the application of artificial intelligence in clinical gait analysis, which affects the identification and management of gait abnormalities found in various diseases. Machine learning (ML) and artificial neural networks (ANNs) are the most often utilized AI methods in gait analysis. By comparing the predictive capability of different AI algorithms in published studies, we evaluate their potential for gait analysis in different situations. Furthermore, the current challenges and future directions of gait analysis and AI research are discussed, which will also provide valuable reference information for investors in this field.

      IMPORTANCE: Science and its individual fields are growing at spectacular rates along with the number of papers being generated each year. However, we lack methods to investigate the size of these fields, many times relying on anecdotal knowledge on which fields are "hot topics" or oversaturated. Thus, we developed a bibliometric method analyzing authorship information from PubMed to estimate the size of fields based on unique author counts. Our major findings are that unique author counts serve as an efficient measurement of the size of a given field. Additionally, the size of a biomedical science field correlates to its public health burden when compared to case numbers. This method allows us to compare growth rates, workforce distribution, and the allocation of resources between fields to understand how scientific fields self-regulate. These insights can, in turn, help guide policymaking, for example, in funding allocation, to ensure fields are not neglected.
