      BACKGROUND: This study was conducted to provide a comparative and comprehensive analysis of the last 50 years of research in the immunology of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and to identify future research priorities and directions.METHODS: We obtained publication information from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. Scimago Graphica, CiteSpace, VOSviewer, GraphPad Prism, Microsoft Excel 365, and the R package "bibliometrix" were used for bibliometric analysis. The methodologies used were burst citation, clustering and co-citation, keyword co-occurrence, and cooperative network graph clustering algorithms.
    RESULTS: A total of 2239 articles and reviews were included in the analysis. The number of annual publications showed an upward trend amidst fluctuations. The countries, institutions, journals, and authors with the highest number of publications were the USA, Imperial College London (ICL), Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, and Murphy TF. There are 58 references and 13 keywords with a burst citation nature in the last 3 years, related to the study of inflammatory mechanisms.
    CONCLUSION: We used bibliometric analysis to understand the research progress regarding immune function in COPD. Meanwhile, we found that the hotspots of COPD immunology in basic research focus on the analysis of etiology and risk factors, and the exploration of the immune system; and the hotspots of COPD in clinical research focus on epidemiology, and the prevention and management of different subtypes of COPD.

      As the world's textile industry shifts towards manufacturing high value-added textile structures and products, medical textiles have drawn extensive attention from researchers and the related research field is rapidly developing in recent years. To provide readers a systematic overview of this research field, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of scientific publications related to the field in performed and visually presented using the software CiteSpace and VOSviewer in this paper. Totally 2839 papers have been retrieved and collected from the core database of Web of Science™. First, the papers are divided into several groups and quantitatively analyzed based on the year of publication, the citations in each year, and the disciplines involved in the papers. VOSviewer is adopted to analyze the collaboration among countries, organizations, and authors in the research community as well as their research output and influence in terms of citation. Then the major journals in the field are identified through performing co-citation analysis on source journals of all references cited in the retrieved papers. In addition, the highly cited papers and their references are listed in this paper. They offer researchers a glimpse of the internal relationship of scientific literature and the dynamic structure of scientific evolution. Finally, the co-occurrence analysis of keywords is also performed using VOSviewer and CiteSpace. The connection between various disciplines in the research field is revealed, so that the scientific development history, the research hotspots, and main research directions in the field can be traced.

      Background: In recent years, a great deal of research has been done on vascular calcification (VC), and inflammation and immunity have been displayed to play important roles in the mechanism of VC. However, to date, no comprehensive or systematic bibliometric analyses have been conducted on this topic.Methods: Articles and reviews on the roles of inflammation and immunity in VC were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection on August 5, 2022. Four scientometric software packages-HistCite, CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and R-bibliometrix-were used for the bibliometric and knowledge mapping analyses.
    Results: The obtained 1,868 papers were published in 627 academic journals by 9,595 authors of 2,217 institutions from 69 countries. The annual number of publications showed a clear growth trend. The USA and China were the most productive countries. Karolinska Institutet, Harvard University, and the University of Washington were the most active institutions. Stenvinkel P published the most articles, whereas Demer LL received the most citations. Atherosclerosis published the most papers, while Circulation was the most highly cited journal. The largest cluster among the 22 clusters, based on the analysis of co-citations, was osteo-/chondrogenic transdifferentiation. "Vascular calcification," "inflammation," "chronic kidney disease," and "expression" were the main keywords in the field. The keyword "extracellular vesicle" attracted great attention in recent years with the strongest citation burst.
    Conclusions: Osteo-/chondrogenic transdifferentiation is the primary research topic in this field. Extracellular vesicles are expected to become a new research focus for exploring the inflammatory and immune mechanisms of VC.

      Background: The negative effects of insomnia on adolescents' development, academic performance, and quality of life place a burden on families, schools, and society. As one of the most important research directions for insomnia, adolescent insomnia has significant research value, social value, and practical significance. Unfortunately, there is no bibliometric analysis in this field of study. This study aims to analyze published articles using bibliometrics, summarize the current research progress and hot topics in this field systematically and exhaustively, and predict the future direction and trend of research.Methods: For this study, the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database was searched between 2002 and 2022 for publications related to adolescent insomnia. The R-bibliometrix, VOSViewer, and CiteSpace software were utilized for bibliometric analysis.
    Results: This investigation included 2468 publications from 3102 institutions in 87 countries, led by China and the United States. This field of research has entered a period of rapid development since 2017. The journal with the most publications on adolescent insomnia is Sleep, which is also the most co-cited journal. American Journal of Psychology has the highest impact factor among the top 10 journals. These papers were written by 10605 authors; notably, Liu Xianchen emerged as the author with the highest frequency of publications, while Mary A. Carskadon was the most frequently co-cited author. Mental health and comorbid diseases were the main research directions in this field. "Depression," "anxiety," "mental health," "COVID-19," "stress," "quality of life," "heart rate variability," and "attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder" were hot spots and trends in this field at the current moment.
    Conclusion: The research on adolescent insomnia has social value, research value, and research potential; its development is accelerating, and an increasing number of researchers are focusing on it. This study summarized and analyzed the development process, hot spots, and trends of adolescent insomnia research using bibliometric analysis, which identified the current hot topics in this field and predicted the development trend for the future.

      BACKGROUND: Several studies have been conducted on using platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to treat cosmetic issues. Nonetheless, no bibliometric analyses of publications in this field exist. Bibliometrics is an effective tool for methodically assessing the current state of research on a particular topic. This study examines the literature published in this field since 2000 and depicts the resulting network.METHODS: The Web of Science Core Collection was searched for any publications mentioning the use of PRP in cosmetic or aesthetic therapy published between 2001 and 2022. The author, region, institution, journal, cited journal, and keywords were extracted, and the bibliometric analysis was carried out using CiteSpace and R studio.
    RESULTS: There were a total of 306 items retrieved. The first publication in this field appeared in 2001, and the number of articles published increased over the next 21 years. Saedi Nazanin is the author with the most publications. The most prolific nations and institutions were the United States and the Fourth Military Medical University, respectively. Similarly, most articles and citations were found in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. After performing a cluster analysis on the keywords of published publications, we discovered that most of the published literature focused on using PRP in rejuvenation, mechanism, and combination with MSCs. These topics are still at the frontier of future research.
    CONCLUSION: Since the first study in this field was published in 2001, PRP used in cosmetic clinics has been studied. Although early effects have been observed, numerous challenges remain, including a lack of higher-quality clinical studies and explanations of PRP's mechanism. The bibliometric analysis conducted for the purpose of this article provides a summary of academic hotspots and research frontiers, as well as insights and pointers for future productive research.

      OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to employ bibliometric approaches to assess the worldwide scientific achievements in acupuncture for facial paralysis research from 2013 to 2023, and explore the hotspots and frontiers.METHODS: Articles related to acupuncture facial paralysis were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). CiteSpace was utilized to examine journals, publication year, country, institution, cited authors, as well as authors.Research hotspots and trends were analyzed by mapping co-citation networks and keywords.
    RESULTS: The period from January 1, 2013, to July 31, 2023, yielded nearly 145 research records on acupuncture treatment for facial paralysis, with a steady increase in the number of annual publications.In terms of the number of publications, OTOLARYNGOLOGY HEAD NECK had the highest publication count, while AM J CHINESE MED exhibited the highest centrality and citation frequency among the cited journals. Further, 54.4% of publications originated from China, followed by USA (8.2%) and Germany (8.2%). Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine stood out with the highest publication volume among institutions. Guntinas-lichius, Orlando was the most prolific author, and PEITERSEN E was the most cited author. The keywords "Randomized controlled trials" and "multicenter" displayed high frequency and centrality, indicating that clinical trials with a randomized controlled design and multicenter studies were prevalent research methods, likely to remain a future trend.
    CONCLUSION: Acupuncture's potential in the treatment of facial paralysis merits further research. Authors from different countries/regions and organizations need to eliminate language and academic barriers and strengthen collaboration and communication. Current research hotspots focus on "brain", "nerve", "electrical stimulation", "RCT" and "guidelines". The study of acupuncture mechanisms, especially based on the central nervous system mechanism, may be the future research hotspot.

      OBJECTIVES: Tuina is an effective complementary and alternative therapy. However, no bibliometric analysis has explored the global research status and emerging trends of tuina. Therefore, our study aimed to provide a perspective on the current state and frontier trends in the field.DESIGN: Bibliometric analysis SETTING: Tuina-related publications between January 1, 2003, and December 31, 2022, were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection database.
    MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The knowledge graph software CiteSpace and VOSViewer were used to quantitatively analyse annual trends in annual publication volume, journals, countries, institutions, authors, cited references, and keywords.
    RESULTS: Overall, 1877 articles were obtained. Consequently, the number of annual publications in tuina gradually increased. China published the most articles (1402 articles, 58.01%), followed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (110 articles, 2.57%). Original and review articles were the two main types of publications. Photonics Research ranked first (101 articles, 5.38%) as the most influential affiliate and productive journal. These articles come from 8423 authors, among whom Min Fang published the most publications, and Ernst E was co-cited most often. According to the keyword co-occurrence analysis, the new research frontiers were meta-analyses.
    CONCLUSION: This comprehensive bibliometric study analysed the publications on tuina and presented them visually, revealing new research trends, pivotal points, research hotspots, and frontiers. Prospective strategies and potential directions for further studies were also provided.

      Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has caused severe health concerns worldwide. Studies on gut microbiota have provided new targets for preventing and treating IBD. Therefore, it is essential to have a comprehensive understanding of the current status and evolution of gut microbiota and IBD studies.Methods: A bibliometric analysis was performed on documents during 2003-2022 retrieved from the Scopus database, including bibliographical profiles, citation patterns, and collaboration details. Software programs of VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and the Bibliometrix R package visually displayed the mass data presented in the scientific landscapes and networks.
    Results: 10479 publications were retrieved, showing a steadily growing tendency in interest. Xavier Ramnik J. group led the total number of publications (73 papers) and 19787 citations, whose productive work aroused widespread concern. Among the 1977 academic journals, the most prolific ones were Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, Frontiers in Immunology, and Nutrients. Research outputs from the United States (US, 9196 publications), China (5587), and Italy (2305) were highly ranked.
    Conclusion: Our bibliometric study revealed that the role of gut microbiota has become a hot topic of IBD research worldwide. These findings are expected to improve understanding of research characteristics and to guide future directions in this field.

      BACKGROUND AND AIMS: This study aimed to assess the current status of India's COVID-19 research from the top 100 most cited papers, using bibliometrics methods and indicators and suggest strengths and weaknesses.METHODOLOGY: Publications on COVID-19 research from India between December 2019 and 22 August 2023 were retrieved from the Scopus database. From 37101 studies retrieved, the first top 100 Highly Cited Papers (HCPs) having received 270 to 2931 citations, were identified.
    RESULTS: The top 100 most cited Indian papers were published from 2020 to 2023, with the majority (75) in the year 2021, followed by 24 in 2022. They were cited a total of 56661 times (average - 566.61 times). The 242 authors of these HCPs were from 159 Indian organizations, and the articles were published in 60 journals. 29 % and 59 % of these HCPs received external funding support and were involved in international collaborations, respectively. There was poor collaboration among Indian research institutions and a dearth of funding from India. None of the Indian HCPs figured in the global 100 HCPs.
    CONCLUSIONS: Although citations of research papers published from India increased during COVID-19, limited collaboration, inadequate funding, and subpar publications hindered Indian scientists. To enhance India's research landscape, we propose dismantling barriers, nurturing collaboration, and encouraging knowledge exchange among domestic institutions.

      Atherosclerosis (AS) is the main underlying cause of cardiovascular disease, and B cells are considered a key immune cell type to regulate AS. So far, there is no bibliometric study on B cell and AS. This study aims to comprehensively analyze the scientific output about B cell and AS, summarize the literature characteristics, explore research hotspots, and point out emerging trends. We searched the literature from 2003 to 2022 from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and the R package "Bibliometrix" were used for literature analysis and visualization. A total of 1,062 articles and reviews were identified. The number of annual publications generally showed an upward trend. The United States and China were the most productive countries. Medical University of Vienna was the most productive research institution, and Binder Christoph J. was the most productive author, who was also from Medical University of Vienna. "Arteriosclerosis Thrombosis and Vascular Biology" was the most published journal and the most frequently cited journal. The most cited reference was written by Caligiuri G (2002) in "Journal of Clinical Investigation." The most frequent keywords were "inflammation," "macrophages," "cardiovascular disease," "T cells," "apoptosis," "immunity," "cytokines," "lymphocytes," etc. The trend topics were mainly focused on "immune infiltration," "immunoglobulins," and "biomarkers." The complex role of B cell subtypes and a variety of B cell mediators is the main research direction at present. In-depth analysis of B cell-specific targets can provide new ideas and methods for the prevention and treatment of AS.

      Bibliometric analysis is an effective method used to identify research trends based on historical publications that involves combining different frameworks, tools and methods, leading to the creation of different metrics. This study employed bibliometric analysis to investigate the global health risk assessment of heavy metals in food from 2000 to 2022 using Web of Science and VOSviewer. We explore publication trends, affiliations, countries, journals, citations, keywords and author collaborations. Of the 573 publications on this topic, there has been a notable increase in recent years. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (China) and Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences (Iran) are the most prolific affiliations. Environmental Science and Pollution Research is the top journal. Notably, "heavy metals", "risk assessment", "cadmium", "lead", and "trace elements" are frequently used keywords. A study by Miraglia et al. in 2009 received the most citations. Amin Mousavi Khaneghah (Poland) is the most prolific author, with 24 papers. Articles mainly focus on contamination levels in fish, seafood, cereals, dairy, meat, and fruit/vegetables. Some studies highlight potential risks, necessitating stricter food product controls for consumer safety.

      Objectives: To describe the trends and characteristics of the worldwide scientific production on the use of artificial pancreas (AP) in the management of diabetes mellitus (DM).Materials and Methods: Scientific papers published between 2017 and 2022 were retrieved from the Scopus database using relevant keywords. Only original articles, reviews, and short surveys were included. The metadata were exported to the SciVal software for retrieving quantitative data and the main characteristics such as journals, authors, institutions, journal metrics by quartiles, subcategories, and collaborative networks were extracted.
    Results: A total of 642 articles were included after applying the inclusion/exclusion criteria: original articles, 489; reviews, 151; and short surveys, 2. The most common type of collaboration was at the national level (38.3%; citations per publication: 22.3; field-weighted citation index [FWCI]: 2.2) followed by international collaboration (29.4%; citations per publication: 19.6; FWCI: 1.94). More than 70% of articles in each year were published in journals listed in Q1. Two journals, Diabetes Technology and Therapeutics and Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology, accounted for about 22% of all publications. Six of the top 10 universities were from the United States, with The University of Virginia having the most publications (n = 54; 59 authors; citations per publication: 38.4; FWCI: 3.73).
    Conclusions: The findings of this study highlight that most research on this topic is published in high-quality journals and has a good citation impact. Notably, most research has been conducted in developed countries, thereby indicating the need for research efforts in this field from developing countries.

      Background: Citation analyses have been used to understand the impact that a group of publications has on its field. As the techniques and indications of reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) continue to expand, it is important to identify articles that can orient readers to the history, evolution, and current status of the body of RTSA literature. The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze the 50 most-cited articles related to RTSA.Methods: Various Boolean queries were searched on the Clarivate Analytics Web of Science. Information collected included author name, publication year, country of origin, journal name, article type, total number of citations, and level of evidence.
    Results: Top 50 most-cited articles amassed a total of 10,521 citations. The most-cited article was cited a total of 766 times. The most common study designs were case series (28) and cohort studies (9). Authors from the United States (24) contributed the most to included papers, followed by France (19) and Switzerland (8).
    Discussion: The most-cited articles on RTSA are expert opinions, case studies, and cohort studies published by American authors. As RTSA continues to grow over the next decade, studies with higher levels-of-evidence may overtake articles included in this analysis.

      BACKGROUND: Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a common, refractory and disabling disease of orthopedic department, which is one of the common causes of hip pain and dysfunction. Recent studies have shown that much progress has been made in the research of programmed cell death (PCD) in ONFH. However, there is no bibliometric analysis in this research field. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the knowledge structure and research hot spots of PCD in ONFH through bibliometrics.METHOD: The literature search related to ONFH and PCD was conducted on the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database from 2002 to 2021. The VOSviewers, "bibliometrix" R package and CiteSpace were used to conduct this bibliometric analysis.
    RESULTS: In total, 346 articles from 27 countries led by China and USA and Japan were included. The number of publications related to PCD in ONFH is increasing year by year. Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Xi An Jiao Tong University, Wuhan University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology are the main research institutions. Molecular Medicine Reports is the most popular journal in the field of PCD in ONFH, and Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research is the most cocited journal. These publications come from 1882 authors among which Peng Hao, Sun Wei, Zhang Chang-Qing, Zhang Jian and Wang Kun-zheng had published the most papers and Ronald S Weinstein was cocited most often. Apoptosis, osteonecrosis, osteonecrosis of the femoral head, glucocorticoid and femoral head appeared are the main topics the field of PCD in ONFH. Autophagy was most likely to be the current research hot spot for PCD in ONFH.
    CONCLUSION: This is the first bibliometric study that comprehensively summarizes the research trends and developments of PCD in ONFH. This information identified recent research frontiers and hot directions, which will provide a reference for scholars studying PCD in ONFH.

      The field of mRNA vaccines has witnessed rapid development in recent years, leading to significant changes in global scientific collaboration. In this study, a bibliometric and social network analysis was conducted to reveal the evolution of global scientific collaboration in mRNA vaccine research. Altogether 6974 articles published since 2010 were retrieved and categorized into Period 1 (2010-2019), Period 2 (2020-2021) and Period 3 (2022-2023). During Period 2 and 3, there was a significant rise in the proportion of publications involving domestic inter-institutional cooperation (42.0%, 54.0% and 59.1%, respectively in Period 1, 2, and 3), while a significant decrease in international cooperation (32.1%, 23.7% and 21.0%). More countries participated in international collaboration during Period 2 and 3, with the US, the UK and Germany remaining top three throughout all periods, while some other countries like Italy, Japan, and China experiencing significant shifts. Significant correlations between collaboration type and publication impact and between geographical distance and collaborative publication counts were detected. Furthermore, significant changes in research focuses and institutions that are major contributors in the mRNA vaccine development have been observed. In conclusion, the mRNA vaccine field has experienced rapid development over the past decade, with significant evolutions of global scientific collaboration detected in our study.

      Background: Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE), a complementary and alternative medicine, has been widely used for disorders such as brain infarction, dementia, and coronary heart disease, in recent decades. Given its widespread clinical use, GBE has always been a vital research topic. However, there are no bibliometric analyses on this topic; furthermore, published reviews of GBE focus only on a specific research field or lack scientific and systematic evaluation. This study combined bibliometrics with thematic reviews by visual analysis to identify the current status of GBE research and to better identify research hotspots and trends in the past 40 years to understand future developments in basic and clinical research.Methods: Articles and reviews on GBE were retrieved by topic from the Web of Science Core Collection from inception to 2022.12.01. Countries, institutions, authors, journals, references, and keywords in the field were visually analyzed using CiteSpace, Scimago Graphica, and VOSviewer software; then, these visualization results for references and keywords were clarified in detail by thematic reviews in subdivisions of the fields.
    Results: In total, 2015 publications were included. The GBE-related literature has high volumes of publications and citations. The majority of literature is from China, and the USA cooperates most closely with other countries. In GBE research, Christen Yves is the most cited author, Phytotherapy Research is the most prolific journal, and the Journal of Ethnopharmacology is the most co-cited journal. Through a comprehensive analysis of keywords, references, and reviews, the quality of the meta-analysis of randomized controlled clinical trials of GBE in treating dementia was evaluated by the Risk of Bias in Systematic Reviews scale (ROBIS). Current research on GBE focuses on its pharmacological mechanisms, and neuroprotective application in diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, and glaucoma. Randomized controlled trials are the current research hotspot.
    Conclusion: Research on GBE is flourishing; using bibliometric and thematic analysis, we identified its hotspots and trends. The pharmacological mechanisms and clinical applications of GBE are the focus of present and likely future research.

      BACKGROUND: T cell exhaustion refers to a state wherein T cells become less functional as a result of their prolonged exposure to cognate antigens. A wealth of T cell exhaustion-focused research has been conducted in recent decades, transforming the current understanding of this biologically relevant process. However, there have not been any comprehensive bibliometric analyses to date focused on clarifying the T cell exhaustion-related research landscape. Here, a bibliometric analysis was thus conducted with the goal of better elucidating the current state of knowledge and emerging research hotspots in this field.METHODS: The Web of Science Core Collection was searched for articles and reviews related to T cell exhaustion, with the CiteSpace and VOSviewer programs then being employed to analyze the countries, institutions, authors, references, and keywords associated with studies in this research space.
    RESULTS: In total, 2676 studies were incorporated in this analysis, highlighting progressive annual increases in the number of T cell exhaustion-focused publications over the study period. These publications were affiliated with 3117 institutions in 85 countries, with the USA and China being the largest contributors to the field. Of the 18,032 authors associated with these publications, E. John Wherry exhibited the highest publication count and the greatest citation frequency. Keyword analyses indicated that immunotherapy, T cell exhaustion, and PD-1 are the dominant foci for T cell exhaustion-related research.
    CONCLUSION: These findings highlight the importance of collaborations among institutions and nations in order to further propel novel studies of T cell exhaustion. Efforts to unravel the signal transduction and transcriptional mechanisms underlying the onset of T cell exhaustion were also identified as an emerging hotspot in this field. Ultimately, these results support the pivotal status of T cell exhaustion research as a key direction for immunotherapeutic research and development efforts in the coming years.

      Since the adoption of the Paris Agreement in 2015, different countries have implemented various measures to achieve climate governance. This has attracted significant attention from the academic community, resulting in a rapid increase in climate finance literature. This study conducts bibliometric analysis and systematic review to identify the development trends and research hotspots in the field of climate finance. The empirical findings reveal that climate finance research primarily focuses on environmental science, energy fuels, economics, and finance. However, there is limited coverage of climate finance content in finance journals. Moreover, scholars in developing countries show less interest in climate finance compared to them in developed countries, and there is limited cross-regional collaboration among scholars from developing countries. Finally, this paper analyzes clustering results to identify and categorize the focal areas dispersed across research articles, and provides future directions for the advancement of climate finance.

      BACKGROUND: Gastric cancer (GC) is the sixth most common cancer and third leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Current treatments mainly rely on surgery- and chemotherapy-based systemic; however, the prognosis remains poor for advanced disease. Recent studies have suggested that immunotherapy has significant potential in cancer therapy; thus, GC immunotherapy may improve quality of life and survival for patients with this disease.AIM: To provide a comprehensive overview of the knowledge structure and research hotspots of GC immunotherapy.
    METHODS: We conducted a bibliometric analysis of publications on immunotherapy related to GC in the Web of Science Core Collection database. We analyzed 2013 pub-lications from 1999 to February 1, 2023, using the VOSviewer and CiteSpace software. We assessed publication and citation distributions using the WoS platform and explored research countries, institutions, journals, authors, references, and keywords (co-occurrence, timeline view, and burst analysis). In addition, we examined 228 trials on immunotherapy, 137 on adoptive cell therapy, 274 on immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), and 23 on vaccines from ClinicalTrials.gov and the International Clinical Trials Registry Platform. The Impact Index Per Article for the top ten high-cited papers collected from Reference Citation Analysis (RCA) are presented.
    RESULTS: Our bibliometric analysis revealed that the study of immunotherapy in GC has developed rapidly in recent years. China accounted for almost half the publications, followed by the United States. The number of publications in recent years has been growing continuously, and most institutions and authors with the most publications are from China. The main keywords or clusters identified were "tumor microenvironment", "adoptive immunotherapy", "dendritic therapy", and "microsatellite instability".
    CONCLUSION: Our analysis of 2013 publications indicated that immunotherapy for GC has led to several new developments in recent years. Considerable progress has been made in vaccinations, immune checkpoint therapy, and adoptive cellular therapy. In particular, ICIs and chimeric antigen receptor T-cells are novel options for the treatment of GC. We suggest that the combination of ICIs, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and other immunotherapies should be the primary research direction in the future.

      Process oriented guided inquiry learning (POGIL), is a group-learning method that contributes to the active participation of learners in learning/teaching environments. However, a standard process for using the POGIL in classes is not available. In addition, no systematic reviews using bibliometric analysis in the literature examine the studies concerning POGIL in terms of content and research trends. From this viewpoint, this study aimed to examine the documents related to POGIL with the bibliometric analysis method to contribute to the development of POGIL. It analyses the publications made about POGIL in the period between 1999 and 2023. A total of 179 publications available on the Web of Science were included in the study. It was found following the analyses that the publications were made in various research areas and were published in several journals. They were mostly published in the USA and the researcher with the greatest number of publications was Clifton L. Kussmaul.

      OBJECTIVES: A major critique of the h-index is that it may be inflated by non-critical authorship. We propose a modified h-index (hm), incorporating critical authorship, complementary to the h-index. We analyze its relationship to the traditional h-index, and how each varies across professional categories relevant to academic neurosurgery. This analysis is absolutely not meant to critique authorship decisions, affect career development, alter academic legacy or imply that the concepts of team science or mid-level authorship contributions are not valuable.METHODS: H-indices and hm's were gathered and computed for clinical neurosurgical faculty at the top 32 ranked academic neurosurgical programs based on current literature. Hm was computed for faculty at each program, using publications where the individual was first, second, last, or co-corresponding author. Individuals were further identified based on chair status, leadership status, neurosurgical sub-specialty and NIH funding status. Further analysis was performed to determine factors influencing h-index and hm.
    RESULTS: The median h-index for the 225 physicians included in the final dataset is 48 [IQR: 39-61], while median hm was 32 [24-43]. The median difference between h-index and hm is 15 [10-23]. The median hm/h was 64% [57-74]. NIH funding, and sub-specialty (Neurosurgical Oncology, Neurocritical Care and Cerebrovascular) were associated with significant change from h to hm.
    CONCLUSIONS: The H-index can be influenced by non-critical authorship and hm, using critical contributions, can be used as a complement reflecting critical academic output in neurosurgery. Leaders deciding on hiring or promotion should consider disparities in productivity predicated on non-critical authorship contributions.

      Introduction: Memory is a fundamental cognitive function for successful interactions with a complex environment. Norepinephrine (NE) is an essential component of catecholamine induced by emotional arousal, and numerous studies have demonstrated that NE is a key regulator in memory enhancement. We therefore conducted a bibliometric analysis to represent the knowledge pattern of the literature on the theme of NE-memory relationship.Methods: The WOSCC database was selected to extract literature published during 2003-2022. The collected data of annual production, global cooperation, research structure and hotspots were analyzed and visualized.
    Results: Our results showed that research on the links between NE and memory displayed a considerable development trend over the last two decades. The USA had a leading position in terms of scientific outputs and collaborations. Meanwhile, University of California Irvine contributed the most publications. Benno Roozendaal and James McGaugh were the most prolific authors in this field, and Neurobiology of Learning and Memory had the highest number of publications on this topic. The research emphasis has evolved from memory-related diseases and brain regions to neural mechanisms for different types of memory at neural circuit levels.
    Conclusion: Our bibliometric analysis systematically analyzed the literature on the links between NE and memory from a bibliometric perspective. The demonstrated results of the knowledge mapping would provide valuable insights into the global research landscape.

      Background: The surge in the number of publications on psoriasis has posed significant challenges for researchers in effectively managing the vast amount of information. However, due to the lack of tools to process metadata, no comprehensive bibliometric analysis has been conducted.Objectives: This study is to evaluate the trends and current hotspots of psoriatic research from a macroscopic perspective through a bibliometric analysis assisted by machine learning based semantic analysis.
    Methods: Publications indexed under the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) term "Psoriasis" from 2003 to 2022 were extracted from PubMed. The generative statistical algorithm latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) was applied to identify specific topics and trends based on abstracts. The unsupervised Louvain algorithm was used to establish a network identifying relationships between topics.
    Results: A total of 28,178 publications were identified. The publications were derived from 176 countries, with United States, China, and Italy being the top three countries. For the term "psoriasis", 9,183 MeSH terms appeared 337,545 times. Among them, MeSH term "Severity of illness index", "Treatment outcome", "Dermatologic agents" occur most frequently. A total of 21,928 publications were included in LDA algorithm, which identified three main areas and 50 branched topics, with "Molecular pathogenesis", "Clinical trials", and "Skin inflammation" being the most increased topics. LDA networks identified "Skin inflammation" was tightly associated with "Molecular pathogenesis" and "Biological agents". "Nail psoriasis" and "Epidemiological study" have presented as new research hotspots, and attention on topics of comorbidities, including "Cardiovascular comorbidities", "Psoriatic arthritis", "Obesity" and "Psychological disorders" have increased gradually.
    Conclusions: Research on psoriasis is flourishing, with molecular pathogenesis, skin inflammation, and clinical trials being the current hotspots. The strong association between skin inflammation and biologic agents indicated the effective translation between basic research and clinical application in psoriasis. Besides, nail psoriasis, epidemiological study and comorbidities of psoriasis also draw increased attention.

      In recent decades, artificial intelligence (AI) has played an increasingly important role in medicine, including dermatology. Worldwide, numerous studies have reported on AI applications in dermatology, rapidly increasing interest in this field. However, no bibliometric studies have been conducted to evaluate the past, present, or future of this topic. This study aimed to illustrate past and present research and outline future directions for global research on AI applications in dermatology using bibliometric analysis. We conducted an online search of the Web of Science Core Collection database to identify scientific papers on AI applications in dermatology. The bibliometric metadata of each selected paper were extracted, analyzed, and visualized using VOS viewer and Cite Space. A total of 406 papers, comprising 8 randomized controlled trials and 20 prospective studies, were deemed eligible for inclusion. The United States had the highest number of papers (n = 166). The University of California System (n = 24) and Allan C. Halpern (n = 11) were the institution and author with the highest number of papers, respectively. Based on keyword co-occurrence analysis, the studies were categorized into 9 distinct clusters, with clusters 2, 3, and 7 containing keywords with the latest average publication year. Wound progression prediction using machine learning, the integration of AI into teledermatology, and applications of the algorithms in skin diseases, are the current research priorities and will remain future research aims in this field.

      Objective: To conduct a bibliometric analysis of the global snakebite literature to provide a reference for the future development of snakebite research. Methods: The Web of Science citation analysis tools, VOSviewer and CiteSpace V were used to carry out the bibliometric analysis of the literature and generate visualization maps. Results: The number of publications has increased at a considerably accelerated rate in the past 8 years. Nine distinct cooperation clusters were formed between institutions and countries. Keyword clustering yielded nine well-structured clusters covering two major topics, i.e., snakebite envenoming and antivenom. Burstiness detection revealed eight keywords with strong emergence, including neglected tropical diseases, Elapidae, Viperidae, and Russell's viper, which have sustained popularity up to the present. Conclusion: Current research on snakebites has gradually garnered attention from the academic community. Cooperation papers between nations severely affected by snakebite and those with higher economic status received more attention. The continued exploration of therapeutic mechanisms, the development of antivenoms or alternative medicines, and primary prevention of snakebites to ensure the safety of populations in impoverished regions should be prioritized by international scholars. The epidemiological evidence and the timely translation of research findings should be valued by policymakers.

      Background: Patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) take a higher risk of developing lymphoma, which is the most frequent cause of death in pSS. Based on this situation, the number of publications focusing on pSS-associated lymphoma has been growing. Nevertheless, the extent, range, and nature of available research in this field have not been systematically summarized. This study aimed to map the literature available on pSS-associated lymphoma and identify global hotspots and trends.Methods: Papers on pSS and lymphoma published from 1991 to 2022 were searched from the Web of Science Core Collection. Microsoft Excel, SPSS Statistics, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace software were used to analyze and visualize the quantity and citations of publications, and the global research hotspots and trends of pSS-associated lymphoma.
    Results: 629 publications from 50 countries/regions and 538 institutions were included in this study. From 1991 to 2022, the cumulative publications steadily increased. The USA ranked first in the number of publications (n = 118, 18.76 %), followed by Italy (n = 94, 14.94 %) and France (n = 73, 11.61 %). Udine University (n = 29) and Salvatore De Vita (n = 39) were the most prolific affiliation and author, respectively. Claudio Vitali was the most frequently cited author (n = 335). In total, the most frequently occurring keywords were clustered into four well-defined groups. The first group of keywords pointed to the clinical assessment and treatment of pSS-associated lymphoma. The second group highlighted the pathogenesis. The third group identified the predictors and prognosis of pSS-associated Lymphoma, while the fourth group focused on interstitial lung disease and pulmonary lymphoma in patients with pSS. Currently, the hot keywords include consensus, disease activity, and pathogenesis. Ultrasonography, mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma, and epidemiology are the emerging research trends in pSS-associated lymphoma.
    Conclusion: Research on pSS-associated lymphoma is burgeoning. Despite clinical assessment, treatment and pathogenesis, researchers also showed great interest in the predictors, prognosis, and pulmonary manifestations of pSS-associated lymphoma. Current research of pSS-associated lymphoma mainly focuses on consensus, disease activity, and pathogenesis, while the emerging research trends in pSS are pointing to ultrasonography, MALT lymphoma and epidemiology.

      ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, a Chinese herb known as licorice, is frequently incorporated in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulations, due to its significant medicinal value and sweet taste. Despite licorice's merits, no systematic scientometric study has yet been conducted to analyze licorice research trends over the past 25 years.AIM OF THE STUDY: We conducted this study with the aim to provide researchers with a comprehensive overview of research advances in the application of licorice as a TCM ingredient and to offer valuable insights to guide future endeavors in this research field.
    METHODS: We selected licorice-related research papers published between 1997 and 2021 from the Web of Science Core Collection then conducted a scientometric analysis using VOSviewer and CiteSpace software tools.
    RESULTS: A total of 4883 licorice-related publications, including 4511 research papers, 372 review papers, and their cited references, were included in the analysis. Most of these articles were authored by researchers in China (36.8%), including major contributors Wang Ying, Ye Min, and Zhang Yu. The Journal of Ethnopharmacology (impact factor = 5.4) hosted the greatest number of papers (145 articles). Keyword cluster analysis revealed three keyword categories indicating that current licorice research is focused on licorice quality control and identification of licorice active ingredients and associated pharmacological mechanisms.
    CONCLUSION: This study provides a comprehensive overview of licorice-related research trends over the past 25 years as based on quantitative and qualitative analyses of published licorice-related articles. The results of this multi-level analysis of licorice research related to TCM formulations, chemical compositions, and pharmacological effects should provide valuable reference data and insights to guide future research endeavors in this field.

      Panvascular diseases are a group of vascular system diseases, mainly including the heart, brain, neck, and other parts of the vascular lesions. This study aimed to analyze the trends and hotspots over the past decade and provide insights into the latest state of the art in global research, thereby contributing to further research in the field. We systematically searched the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) for articles on exercise therapy and Panvascular disease. The acquired information from the reports was analyzed using CiteSpace and VOSviewer software to assess and forecast this field hottest areas and trends. The final analysis included 294 articles by our specified inclusion criteria. The number of publications has gradually increased over the past decade. Stroke was one of the most studied Panvascular diseases. China and the University of Sao Paulo were the country es and institutions that contributed the most to the field. Mary M. McDermott was the most prolific researcher, and the Journal of Vascular Surgery published the most articles. The 6-minute walk test, skeletal muscle, oxidative stress, and supervised exercise therapy were hot topics from 2019 to 2023. In conclusion, exploring exercise therapy programs and exercise mechanisms for Panvascular diseases has been ongoing. This study revealed the current status and trends of research in the field and identified hot topics. It was helpful for scholars to understand exercise therapy critical role in treating and preventing Panvascular diseases and provided a reference for clinical decision-making and further research.

      Holistic nursing care, which has been discussed a lot recently, provides better quality and more effective patient care. This study was planned to analyze the studies conducted on holistic care, by using the bibliometric method and to reveal which types of studies are needed to increase the effectiveness of holistic nursing care and to make it more widespread. The study has the potential to guide scientists who would like to work on this subject. This study describes the current published evidence about holistic nursing between January,1, 1979 and March 18, 2023. The study's data obtained from the Web of Science (WOS) database were analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative measures. The Excel program was used to analyze the study's data, and VOSviewer was used to visualize it. A total of 3887 publications (reviews and articles) obtained in the search for holistic nursing have been published. A total of 2716 (69 875%) of all publications on holistic nursing were published since 2013, and these publications were cited 45 843 times, and 77.832% of all citations were cited to publications published since 2013. The top 5 countries that made the highest number of contributions were the United States (1259 documents), England (457 documents), Australia (380 documents), Canada (253 documents), and Sweden (183 documents). The University of London in England was the top institute focused on holistic nursing. Holistic nursing is a growing and developing subject, especially considering the number of citations and publications in the last 10 years. Most research and cooperation has occurred in a few developed nations: America, Australia, and European countries.

      Gender authorship trends have been explored in varied medical specialties, and no study had observed in the field of gastric cancer. Therefore, we aimed to access whether the "gender gap" in authorship existed in gastric cancer in the leading gastroenterological journals over the last 2 decades. All original articles published from 2000 to 2020 in 9 leading gastroenterological journals were collected. Information on the first and senior author's gender, country of author's institution, and impact factor of journals were collected. Chi-square tests and multivariable logistic regression were used for data analysis. A total of 5785 original articles were included and analyzed, of which 440 (7.61%) were articles on gastric cancer and 5345 (92.39%) covered other topics. Fewer female authors published original articles as first (19.32%, 85/440) and senior authors (14.32%, 63/440) compared with males. Remarkably, a significant increase in female authorship was discovered. The proportion of female first authors grown from 12.99% to 30.89% during the last 20 years (P < .001), but not in senior authors (P = .175). Multivariable logistic analysis showed that female first authors demonstrated a higher percentage when senior authors were female (odds ratio, 2.040; 95% confidence interval, 1.105-3.769). Although a statistically ascending tendency in female first authors on gastric cancer has been going on over the last 20 years, the exorbitant gender gap still exists. This gap may help explain the continued underrepresentation of women within both clinical work and academic research, and prompt us to look further for the underlying causes.

      Waste management is a complex research domain. While the domain is challenging in terms of content, it is also a diverse and cross-disciplinary research subject. One of its important components includes efficient decision-making at various levels and stages. Therefore, Multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques have found decent applications in this domain. The field of MCDM techniques-based waste management has been examined using bibliometric analysis in this paper in order to report a systematic overview of the trends and advancements in this area of study. The Scopus database provided 216 publications on the aforementioned subject written between 1992 and 2022. The 216 articles include 56 countries, 158 institutions, and 160 authors. Furthermore, Asian countries, including India, Iran, and China, dominate this field of study. The geographical disparity in the output of publications is visible. Journal of cleaner production, Waste Management and Waste Management and Research are the major journals publishing on MCDM techniques-based waste management research. Given that majority of the articles include multiple authors, it can be said that there is a lot of collaborative research in this area. Overall, the current study provides a thorough analysis of the development in the domain of waste management using MCDM techniques. The trend suggests that it will continue to be a focus of research for academicians, environmentalists and policymakers in the future.

      OBJECTIVE: Patients suffering from multiple sclerosis (MS) frequently experience lower urinary tract (LUT) dysfunction, which significantly impacts their quality of life. This study's objective was to conduct a scientometric analysis of the literature on MS-induced neurogenic LUT dysfunction.METHODS: Using bibliometric methods, we examined the literature on neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD) in MS patients without restricting it to prevalence studies or specific management methods. We considered contributions from authors, organizations, nations/regions, as well as the evolution of theoretical frameworks, research subtopics, and influential papers. In January 2023, we searched the complete Scopus database, without imposing any language or date constraints, identifying relevant documents related to urology clinical investigations of MS-induced NLUTD. The original articles were categorized into 4 groups: narrative reviews, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, research of levels 1-4, and case reports/series.
    RESULTS: On January 1, 2023, our search yielded 72 sources published between 1977 and 2022, including journals and books. The average time before publication was 11.2 years. Each document received an average of 18.1 citations, totaling 1.299 citations per year. The author's analysis explored relationships, productivity, and coauthorship networks among authors and institutions based on bibliographic records. Chartier-Kastler E, Karmonik C, and Khavari R ranked highest with 8 publications each. The University of Catania claimed the top position, followed by Houston Methodist Hospital and Paris University, recognized as the leading institutions in this field.
    CONCLUSION: An analysis of diagnosis, therapy, and rehabilitation of MS-related NLUTD may be helpful for future bibliometric research in the field to better direct output.

      Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) represents a notable clinical challenge as it is the most prevalent and severe complication of herpes zoster (HZ). The primary objective was to investigate the current research status and hotspots of PHN research during the period from 2000 to 2022. The literature pertaining to PHN was gathered through the utilization of the Web of Science Core Collection, spanning from January 2000 to December 2022. The software, CiteSpace version 6.2.R2, was employed to produce visual depictions of publications related to PHN across various dimensions such as year, country/region, institution, journal, author, keyword, and reference. This study involved a total of 3505 papers. The USA held a dominant position in the production of scholarly articles. Argentina exhibited the highest frequency of participation in international collaboration. Out of all the institutions, Pfizer exhibited the highest degree of productivity. Harvard University exhibited the highest frequency of participation in international collaboration. The Pain exhibited the most noteworthy productivity rate and citation count among all other journals. Ralf Baron was identified as the most productive author, whereas DWORKIN RH attained the highest citation count. Contemporary scholarly investigations are predominantly centered on identifying risk factors, devising preventative measures, and exploring novel and secure methods of pain management. The current investigation has revealed the focal areas and patterns of studies pertaining to PHN. Presently, the research in this field is focused on identifying the risk factors and preventive measures for PHN, alongside exploring novel and secure pain management strategies.

      Purpose: To determine the overall rate of publication of abstracts presented at the 2016 to 2019 Canadian Association of Radiology Annual Scientific Meeting (CAR ASM), with an emphasis on gender and racial diversity. Methods: Abstracts from publicly available past programs were analyzed using PubMed, EMBASE, and Google Scholar for publication status, time to publication (TTP), author affiliation, and journal of publication. Past programs were used to determine the abstract format, abstract category, and the subspecialty and imaging modalities explored. First author demographics were identified using the Namsor software. Results: Four hundred and sixty-two abstract presentations were included in the analysis with an overall conversion rate of 34.63%. Two hundred and ninety-two (63.2%) of the first-authors were male-identified, of which 104 (35.62%) were published. In contrast, 170 (36.8%) were female-identified, of which 56 (32.94%) were published. Additionally, 50.87% first-authors were identified as white, 38.31% asian, 6.06% black, 4.76% latino, and 0.00% indigenous. While diversity was seen in demographics, 60% of publications had a white first-author. The following conversion rates were found: 40.85% white, 30.51% asian, 25% black, and 13.64% latino. In terms of abstract category, radiologist-in-training had the highest conversion rate at 60.71%. The median TTP was 14 months, with an average impact factor of 5.26. Conclusion: Less than half of abstracts at the 2016 to 2019 CAR ASM were published and both gender and racial disparities in relation to conversion rates were identified. Measures to improve publication rates and overall diversity in Radiology are warranted.

      OBJECTIVE: To quantify the evolution, impact, and importance of normative data (ND) calculation by identifying trends in the research literature and what approaches need improvement.METHODS: A PRISMA-guideline systematic review was performed on literature from 2000 to 2022 in PubMed, Pub-Psych, and Web of Science. Inclusion criteria included scientific articles about ND in neuropsychological tests with clear data analysis, published in any country, and written in English or Spanish. Cross-sectional and longitudinal studies were included. Bibliometric analysis was used to examine the growth, productivity, journal dispersion, and impact of the topic. VOSViewer compared keyword co-occurrence networks between 1952-1999 and 2000-2022.
    RESULTS: Four hundred twelve articles met inclusion and exclusion criteria. The most studied predictors were age, education, and sex. There were a greater number of studies/projects focusing on adults than children. The Verbal Fluency Test (12.7%) was the most studied test, and the most frequently used variable selection strategy was linear regression (49.5%). Regression-based approaches were widely used, whereas the traditional approach was still used. ND were presented mostly in percentiles (44.2%). Bibliometrics showed exponential growth in publications. Three journals (2.41%) were in the Core Zone. VOSViewer results showed small nodes, long distances, and four ND-related topics from 1952 to 1999, and there were larger nodes with short connections from 2000 to 2022, indicating topic spread.
    CONCLUSIONS: Future studies should be conducted on children's ND, and alternative statistical methods should be used over the widely used regression approaches to address limitations and support growth of the field.

      INTRODUCTION: Female plastic surgeons publish fewer and lower impact articles. To better understand how to address this gender gap, we explored the temporal trends in female senior authorship and evaluated predictive factors for female senior authorship.METHODS: A retrospective review of articles published in the 3 highest impact plastic surgery journals published from 2010 to 2020 was conducted. Trends with female senior authorship across time were analyzed with respect to study type, subspeciality, and geographical origin.
    RESULTS: Of the 5425 articles included, 13% (n = 720) had a female senior author, and female senior authorship increased across time (R = 0.84, P = 0.033). Over the decade, an increased proportion of cohort studies (R = 0.82, P = 0.045), systematic reviews (R = 0.96, P = 0.003), breast-related articles (R = 0.88, P = 0.022), and reconstruction-related articles (R = 0.83, P = 0.039) were published by female senior authors. Subspecialty and geography predicted female senior authorship; articles focused on aesthetic (odds ratio [OR] = 1.3, P = 0.046) and breast (OR = 1.7, P < 0.001) subspecialties or those originating from Canada (OR = 1.7 P = 0.019), Europe (OR = 1.5, P < 0.001), and Latin America (OR = 3.0, P < 0.001) were more likely to have a female senior author. Articles from East Asia were less likely to have female senior authors (OR = 0.7, P = 0.005).
    CONCLUSION: Female senior authorship in plastic surgery has increased over the last decade, and the proportion of female plastic surgeons leading cohort studies and systematic reviews is increasing. Sex of the senior author is influenced by plastic surgery subspecialty and geographical origin, but article type did not impact the odds of female senior authorship.

      BACKGROUND: Since the start of the 21st century, prostate cancer with lung metastasis (PCLM) has accumulated significant scientific research output. However, a systematic knowledge framework for PCLM is still lacking.AIM: To reconstruct the global knowledge system in the field of PCLM, sort out hot research directions, and provide reference for the clinical and mechanism research of PCLM.
    METHODS: We retrieved 280 high-quality papers from the Web of Science Core Collection and conducted a bibliometric analysis of keywords, publication volume, and citation frequency. Additionally, we selected differentially expressed genes from global high-throughput datasets and performed enrichment analysis and protein-protein interaction analysis to further summarize and explore the mechanisms of PCLM.
    RESULTS: PCLM has received extensive attention over the past 22 years, but there is an uneven spatial distribution in PCLM research. In the clinical aspect, the treatment of PCLM is mainly based on chemotherapy and immunotherapy, while diagnosis relies on methods such as prostate-specific membrane antigen positron emission tomography/computed tomography. In the basic research aspect, the focus is on cell adhesion molecules and signal transducer and activator of transcription 3, among others. Traditional treatments, such as chemotherapy, remain the mainstay of PCLM treatment, while novel approaches such as immunotherapy have limited effectiveness in PCLM. This study reveals for the first time that pathways related to coronavirus disease 2019, cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction, and ribosome are closely associated with PCLM.
    CONCLUSION: Future research should focus on exploring and enhancing mechanisms such as cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction and ribosome and improve existing mechanisms like cadherin binding and cell adhesion molecules.

      Assessing research activity is an important step for planning future initiatives oriented toward filling the remaining gaps in a field. Therefore, the objective of the current study was to review recently published research on pulmonary toxicity caused by nanomaterials. However, here, instead of reviewing possible toxic effects and discussing their mode of action, the goal was to establish trends considering for example examined so far nanomaterials or used testing strategies. A total of 2316 related articles retrieved from the three most cited databases (PubMed Scopus, Web of Science), selected based on the title and abstract requirements, were used as the source of the review. Based on the bibliometric analysis, the nano-meter metal oxides, and carbon-based nanotubes were identified as the most frequently studied nanomaterials, while quantum dots, which might induce possible harmful effects, were not considered so far. The majority of testing of pulmonary safety is based on in vitro studies with observed growth of the contribution of novel testing strategies, such as 3D lung model, air-liquid interface system, or omic analysis.

      Water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services play a crucial role in promoting public and environmental health as well as social and economic development. At the global level, particularly in the developing world, WASH issues continue to present significant challenges. These challenges have been further intensified by factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic, escalating conflicts, climate change, water scarcity, and rising inequality. The scientific community has actively engaged in constructive discussions on these issues, as evidenced by the notable research findings. Therefore, the aim of this study was to comprehensively examine and evaluate global knowledge on WASH. To search for relevant publications, the Scopus database was utilized using specific terms associated with WASH. VOSviewer 1.6.18 software was employed to generate network visualization maps, which assessed collaborative patterns and research trends in the field of WASH. The research output of countries was adjusted considering their gross domestic product (GDP) and population size. The total number of WASH-related publications, including all types of documents, was 1805. By narrowing the search to articles and reviews, the overall global productivity yielded 1589 documents: 1367 (86.0%) original articles and 222 (14.0%) review articles. The USA had the highest number of WASH publications (n = 668; 42.0%), followed by the UK (n = 396; 24.9%), Switzerland (n = 151; 9.5%), and Australia (n = 141; 8.9%). Ethiopia emerged as the leading country in terms of GDP per capita and the number of publications, followed by Uganda, Malawi, India, and Bangladesh. The USA, the UK, and Switzerland exhibited the most extensive collaboration among countries. The main research areas encompassed the role of WASH in sustainable development, the impacts of inadequate access to WASH services on gender equality, children, infants, and the outbreak of COVID-19 and other diseases, as well as the significance of hygiene practices and community and school-based WASH interventions in reducing infections. This study provides a novel analysis of global WASH-related research and highlights the distribution of outcomes across nations. Continued and increased collaboration between developed and developing nations will facilitate the sharing of responsibility for WASH research outcomes and the implementation of effective policies.

This could be attributed to the increasing accessibility of data, which has created a high demand for investigating scientific phenomena using data-driven methods. The dataset, which is based on bibliographic records from the Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus, was compiled over the last several decades and discusses multidisciplinary trends in this topic while revealing significant advances in current knowledge. It provides a comprehensive examination of trends in publication characteristics, with a focus on publications, document sources, authors, affiliations, and frequent word analysis as bibliometric indicators, all of which were analysed using the Biblioshiny application on the web.       Conventional fault detection methods in photovoltaic systems face limitations when dealing with emerging monitoring systems that produce vast amounts of high-dimensional data across various domains. Accordingly, great interest appears within the international scientific community for the application of artificial intelligence methods, which are seen as a highly promising solution for effectively managing large datasets for detecting faults. In this review, more than 620 papers published since 2010 on artificial intelligence methods for detecting faults in photovoltaic systems are analyzed. To extract major research trends, in particular to detect most promising algorithms and approaches overcoming excessive time calculations, a conventional bibliographic survey would have been extremely difficult to complete. That is why this study proposes to carry out a review with an innovative approach based on a statistical method named Bibliometric and a Expert qualitative content analysis. This methodology consists of three stages. First, a collection of data from databases is carried out with all precautions to achieve a large, robust, high-quality database. Second, multiple bibliometric indicators are chosen based on the objectives to be achieved and analyzed to assess their real impact, such as the quantity and nature of publications, collaborative connections among organizations, researchers, and countries or most cited articles. Finally, the Expert qualitative content analysis carried out by experts identifies the current and emerging research topics that have the greatest impact on fault detection in photovoltaic systems using artificial intelligence.

      BACKGROUND: Alarm fatigue in nurses is a major patient safety concern in the intensive care unit. This is caused by exposure to high rates of false and non-actionable alarms. Despite decades of research, the problem persists, leading to stress, burnout, and patient harm resulting from true missed events. While engineering approaches to reduce false alarms have spurred hope, they appear to lack collaboration between nurses and engineers to produce real-world solutions. The aim of this bibliometric analysis was to examine the relevant literature to quantify the level of authorial collaboration between nurses, physicians, and engineers.METHODS: We conducted a bibliometric analysis of articles on alarm fatigue and false alarm reduction strategies in critical care published between 2010 and 2022. Data were extracted at the article and author level. The percentages of author disciplines per publication were calculated by study design, journal subject area, and other article-level factors.
    RESULTS: A total of 155 articles with 583 unique authors were identified. While 31.73 % (n = 185) of the unique authors had a nursing background, publications using an engineering study design (n = 46), e.g., model development, had a very low involvement of nursing authors (mean proportion at 1.09 %). Observational studies (n = 58) and interventional studies (n = 33) had a higher mean involvement of 52.27 % and 47.75 %, respectively. Articles published in nursing journals (n = 32) had the highest mean proportion of nursing authors (80.32 %), while those published in engineering journals (n = 46) had the lowest (9.00 %), with 6 (13.04 %) articles having one or more nurses as co-authors.
    CONCLUSION: Minimal involvement of nursing expertise in alarm research utilizing engineering methodologies may be one reason for the lack of successful, real-world solutions to ameliorate alarm fatigue. Fostering a collaborative, interdisciplinary research culture can promote a common publication culture across fields and may yield sustainable implementation of technological solutions in healthcare.

The findings are as follows: (1) shrinking city research has increased significantly since 2016; (2) the key themes are planning, decline, depopulation, policy, regeneration, vacant land, green infrastructure, and case studies such as Detroit; and (3) major academic groups have not yet collaborated effectively on the subject.

      Green energy is being claimed as a sustainable solution to the socioeconomic concerns associated with environmental issues and the depletion of non-renewable sources of energy. The impacts of climate change, including global warming, ozone layer depletion, and rising sea levels, have underscored the emergent need for increased investment in green energy to curb down carbon dioxide emissions. Evolution of environmentalism in the 21st century, and the power of environmentally conscious population with their consumption driven demand is increasing which address a wide variety of economic, social, political, technological and legal topics, ranging from empirical analysis to philosophical theorization. This study aims to explore recent advancements in green energy, adaptations to it, and the role of the circular economy within this context. The research employed a review approach, combined with bibliometric analysis of articles published in the past two decades. These articles were obtained from the Scopus database and selected based on specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. To conduct the bibliometric analysis, the authors utilized Bibliometrix R and VOSviewer software, employing analysis like performance analysis, and bibliographic coupling. This study serves as an initiative to identify emerging themes and potential future research areas, with a specific focus on the impact of green energy on industrial and business-to-business sectors and the development of decision-making tools.

      Arsenic pollution and its allied impacts on health are widely reported and have gained global attention in the last few decades. Although the natural distribution of arsenic is limited, anthropogenic activities have increased its mobility to distant locations, thereby increasing the number of people affected by arsenic pollution. Arsenic has a complex biogeochemical cycle which has a significant role in pollution. Therefore, this review paper has comprehensively analysed the biogeochemical cycle of arsenic which can dictate the occurrence of arsenic pollution. Considering the toxicity and nature of arsenic, the present work has also analysed the current status of arsenic pollution around the world. It is noted that the south of Asia, West-central Africa, west of Europe and Latin America are major hot spots of arsenic pollution. Bibliometric analysis was performed by using scopus database with specific search for keywords such as arsenic pollution, health hazards to obtain the relevant data. Scopus database was searched for the period of 20 years from year 2003-2023 and total of 1839 articles were finally selected for further analysis using VOS viewer. Bibliometric analysis of arsenic pollution and its health hazards has revealed that arsenic pollution is primarily caused by anthropogenic sources and the key sources of arsenic exposure are drinking water, sea food and agricultural produces. Arsenic pollution was found to be associated with severe health hazards such as cancer and other health issues. Thus considering the severity of the issue, few sustainable remediation technologies such as adsorption using microbes, biological waste material, nanomaterial, constructed wetland, phytoremediation and microorganism bioremediation are proposed for treating arsenic pollution. These approaches are environmentally friendly and highly sustainable, thus making them suitable for the current scenario of environmental crisis.

      The supply chain management (SCM) environment is rapidly evolving as a result of the critical role industry 4.0 enablers are playing. Consequently, and to leverage the power of industry 4.0 enablers (I4Es) including; artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), internet of things (IoT) and big data (BD), researchers and industry practitioners have employed these I4Es to resolve several pain points in supply chain management at all levels, improve operational efficiency, manage demand volatility, tackle cost fluctuations, and make data-driven decisions. Thus, I4Es are working as an evolutionary catalyst for supply chain management in myriads of ways. As such, the application of I4Es in supply chain management (I4Es-in-SCM) research has witnessed tremendous growth over the past years. This study conducted a scientometric analysis and critical review of the I4Es-in-SCM research to monitor trends, visualize the structure of knowledge, identify gaps, and highlight future research avenues. The paper recruited and analysed bibliographic data of 786 papers from Scopus on the application of I4Es-in-SCM research. Analysis showed that the last two decades witnessed a phenomenal growth in research on the application of I4Es-in-SCM, with at least 42 % of all countries making contributions. The analysis showed wider collaboration between countries and noticed a rather significant collaboration among researchers within a given continent. The study also identified the most influential researchers, journals, and countries as well as trending themes and topics in the application of I4Es-in-SCM research. After delineating boundaries of scientific knowledge, the study proffered areas that require further research. The novelty of this study lies in providing a more holistic statistical and visualized analysis of the structure of knowledge, productivity, and scientific collaborations of researchers, journals and countries in the application of I4Es-in-SCM management research. Accordingly, the study outcomes may serve as a useful reference to supply chain academics, early-stage researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and organizations in understanding the structure of knowledge on the application of I4Es-in-SCM research and may constitute a basis for future research.

      Purpose: This study aimed to assess the impact of research in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of diabetes and explore the various subject areas related to diabetes that receive attention on social media platforms. Altmetric measures were utilized to collect and extract relevant data, providing valuable insights into the social reach and influence of clinical research beyond traditional citation-based metrics.Methods: The research focused on RCTs of diabetes involving at least one Iranian author, indexed in Scopus. Altmetric.com was employed to extract altmetric data, and the collected articles were categorized into 14 subject areas for individual analysis using STATA.
    Results: The analysis revealed that a majority of the diabetes studies examined nutrition, complications, treatment, genetics, basic mechanisms, and comorbidities of the disease. Conversely, subject areas such as diagnosis, education, gestational diabetes, psychology, physical activity, prevention, dentistry, and economics had fewer studies associated with them. Among social media platforms, Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and Reddit emerged as the most frequently mentioned platforms. Furthermore, Mendeley readership was identified as the preferred platform for engagement across several subject areas.
    Conclusions: The substantial number of social media mentions indicates a significant level of public interest and concern regarding diabetes. Social media platforms serve as effective tools for disseminating research findings from clinical trials. Altmetric data proves valuable to researchers and funding agencies seeking to comprehend the impact of their work, enabling them to allocate resources more effectively.

      PVC is widely used in packaging, electrical insulation, and medical devices due to its versatility owing to its resistance, incombustible and barrier properties as well as affordable cost. In the present study, bibliometric and co-occurrence analyses are proposed to identify trends, gaps, future directions, and challenges regarding process system engineering (PSE) applied to the production process of PVC using VOSviewer as a tool for analyzing the data obtained from SCOPUS. A mapping of different topics alluding to simulation of PVC production was provided to gain a better insight into the development of the topic and its progression. The findings indicate that the literature on this topic falls into five different clusters: modeling and simulation of PVC production, process control and optimization, and optimization strategies of the process. From a co-occurrence study we identified that mathematics and statistics applied to polymer chemistry, separation phenomena, and polymer production are the main areas of interest for further research. The trends suggest that Monte Carlo and numerical simulation can contribute to a deeper understanding of PVC's properties and behavior. In addition, the focus on plastics and microplastics reflects concerns about the environmental impact. A bibliometric study evidenced that PSE provides the tools for improvement in PVC production processes by employing advanced process engineering techniques. Modelling and new algorithms for simulation methods of continuous polymerization processes are important to enhance accuracy and efficiency across various applications. The study also proposes a research agenda for future researchers working in the field of the use of PSE applied to the PVC production process.

      BACKGROUND: Research funding disparities contribute to clinical academic workforce inequalities. Hence, our study explores the association between student demographics and research grant application rates and outcomes among UK medical students.METHODS: This is a national multicentre cross-sectional survey of UK medical students in the 2020-21 academic year. Multiple zero-inflated negative binomial regression and generalized linear model (binomial distribution; logit link) were utilized to investigate the association between student demographics, number of grant applications submitted, and successful grant applications (yes or no). P-values less than a Bonferroni-corrected significance level of 0.05/36 = 0.0014 were considered to be statistically significant.
    RESULTS: A total of 1528 students participated from 36 medical schools. One hundred fifty-one respondents (9.9%) had applied for research grants. Black students submitted applications 2.90 times more often than white students [Incident rate ratio (IRR): 2.90, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.37-6.16], with no ethnic disparity in the odds of successful applications. Gender did not influence application rates significantly (P = .248), but women were 4.61 times more likely to secure a grant than men [odds ratio: 4.61, 95% CI: 2.04-10.4]. Being a PubMed-indexed author was associated with increased grant application submission rates [IRR: 3.61, 95% CI: 2.20- 5.92] while conducting more research was associated with greater odds of securing a grant [odds ratio: 1.42, 95% CI: 1.17- 1.73].
    CONCLUSION: Although black students submitted more applications, ethnicity did not influence success rates. Gender did not influence application rates, but women were more successful. These findings underscore the need for strategies supporting women and underrepresented students for continued academic achievement after graduation.
    KEY MESSAGES: What is already known on this topic Research funding for post-PhD researchers is believed to be a major driver of gender and ethnic inequalities in the clinical academic workforce.Students who receive research grants are more likely to receive postgraduate research grants.What this study adds Black students applied for more research grants than white students, but there were no ethnic differences in the odds of securing a grant.There were no gender differences in the research grant application rates. However, female students had greater odds of securing research grants compared to male students.How this study might affect research, practice or policy Medical schools should incorporate grant writing skills into the undergraduate research curriculum. Also, to sustain women's academic success post medical school, the NIHR and affiliates should provide research award extensions and childcare support for women when required.

      As a new construction form, modular integrated construction (MiC) can effectively improve the construction quality and productivity, especially for the construction of high-density and high-rise buildings. However, the current MiC quality inspection relies on manual inspection, which is inefficient and unreliable. Systematic research on digital inspection techniques (DITs) is fragmented and unable to fully realize the potential of the MiC industry. This study aims to explore the current state of DIT applications in MiC and to summarize the knowledge in the field through an analysis of 248 relevant literatures. Accordingly, this study combines bibliometric analysis, and a system engineering evaluation approach based on 3D structures (time, knowledge, and logic) to provide an overview of the current state of DIT development. The overview includes the application of DITs from a whole life cycle perspective, the DIT knowledge structure, specific DIT applications, as well as current challenges and future prospects.

      OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the gender composition of departmental chairs and program leadership of Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited pathology residencies and American Board of Pathology-certified subspecialty fellowships across the United States.METHODS: In this cross-sectional analysis, we examined the gender of individuals holding leadership positions in academic pathology in the United States. Using publicly available online data, 2 authors independently coded perceived gender (ie, man/woman/other) with 100% concordance.
    RESULTS: In 144 pathology residency programs, more women hold residency program director positions (52.1% [75/144]). Among 11 pathology subspecialties, women overall hold fewer fellowship program director positions (45.0% [212/471]). Among the residency-associated pathology department chair positions identified, women hold fewer positions (31.8% [42/132]). There is some geographic variation in pathology leadership gender composition when stratified using US Census regions.
    CONCLUSIONS: Women in academic pathology departments are well represented in residency and overall fellowship program leadership but are underrepresented in department chair and certain pathology subspecialty leadership positions. The disproportionate number of women in department chair positions is observed across medical specialties, highlighting the need for improved gender equity among high-level academic medicine positions.

    Japan Pediatric Society Steering Committee for Board Examinations
      BACKGROUND: Scholarship is recognized as important in residency training worldwide. The Japan Pediatric Society (JPS) enacted a reform in 2017 to require publication of an article as a prerequisite for taking the board certification test, with the goal of increasing scholarly activity.METHODS: The purpose of this study was to provide a detailed description of the trends in residents' scholarly activities related to the JPS reform. A secondary analysis was performed on the cross-sectional database of pediatrics residents who took the certification test in 2015-2018.
    RESULTS: The enrolled participants were 2399 residents of which 79.7% passed the test. Publication of any type of article increased significantly (21%-22% to 100%; 0.1 to 0.3/person-year) after the implementation of the JPS reform, whereas academic presentations did not (89% to 91%; 1.2 to 1.3/person-year), both in terms of the percentage of the number of those who created them and the average rate of research production. Not only Japanese articles (11%-13% to 49%-53%; 0.04 to 0.15-0.17/person-year) or case reports (10%-14% to 51%-52%; 0.03-0.05 to 0.16-0.17/person-year), but also English articles (4%-5% to 15%-16%; 0.01-0.02 to 0.05/person-year) and original articles (5% to 11%-17%; 0.01 to 0.03-0.05/person-year) increased significantly. The number of each type of article publication was correlated with success in the board certification test (odds ratio 1.5-1.8).
    CONCLUSIONS: Scholarly activities of pediatrics residents were enhanced by the JPS implementation of the article requirement policy, which is crucial to fostering a scholarly culture. The most efficient measures to promote scholarship need to be persistently investigated.
